My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.

What if Netherite is actually used to replace those molecules of Diamonds that make it easy to shatter, making the armour more malleable but also a bit dull and rusty?
Its not about some ,,traitor molecules" that make it easy to crush, its the strict cubic-like structure, which is unable to withstand anything else, since its full of itself
I see
Diamonds are pure material made from carbon only, which means that the concept of replacing the molecules is literally putting the diamond aside and using Netherite(which I think as a win win situation, I can have beautiful shiny diamond and useful Netherite).

The hardness vs durability part is actually a really common thing in metallurgy. In WWII, armor steel was tested massively, and it was found that softer, homogenous armor was way better at stopping tank shells than incredibly hard armor, because of the propensity of harder armor to fracture after repeated hits
yep and the dents would be painful
Hey Matpat! I was just doing my thing today, watching videos in absolute boredom. I was thinking about how useless netherite was because you proved it here, when i came to the conclusion that you are wrong! If you take a look at the netherite armor on an armor stand or when wearing it with invisibility, you can clearly see that, at the very least, the diamond armor is coated on both sides! therefore there is not a single diamond shard piercing you if you get hit. And because netherite is better than iron, iron is only second best. i hope you see this, though i don't think you will. You seeing this is rarer than nethertite scrap. Have a great day! :D

"Coal is a big ol' blob of carbon."
So is diamond. It's just arranged differently.
That's actually true lel
So in a Minecraft update you could make Diron
That’s not exactly true. See, while you are correct about them both chemically composing of carbon, there is a reason you wouldn’t you diamond to make steel. When making steel you would need something that is not only carbon but able to be turned into pure carbon. Which in that case coal is WAY better. Also, diamonds would be incredibly hard to make steel with due to their crystalline structure making it unreasonable to use in the making of steel. So while you are correct in them both having carbon, in matpat’s example he is correct in saying coal.

Nuclearcraft has cubic boron nitride you can turn into tools :P
Haha, you thought you could defeat me, but I am wearing my theoretical nanocarbon titanite alloy armor!
DARKOSTO GET IN ON THIS NOW
Sounds like gregtech
This is getting too big brain
So theoretically, if we did nethorite armour with the nethorite close to your skin, and diamonds on the outside, it would keep you safe and cut your enemies when the diamonds broke
I’ve thought about creating a mod that adds steel into the game using coal as the carbon, but you need to purify the coal in order to craft steel equipment. To do that, you need deepslate, iron, and redstone to create a purifier, you then use with water to create carbon shillings, with dirt as a byproduct. You can think of the purifier as an automatic sifter.
Since steel needs to be majority iron, I’ve though about using the mechanic they introduced this last update and use upgrade template (for steel specifically) to upgrade iron tools. The upgrade templates would be found in village blacksmith chests and dungeons, and would require iron to duplicate rather than diamond.
Diamond gear would still be in the top spot as far as overworld ores go, but steel would be better than iron. I like this idea as the gap between iron and diamond in terms of durability is actually quite high. Steel would fill that gap.
“Never waste your diamonds on hoes.” One sentence with two very different meanings.

Okay, so I just figured something out while taking notes in Physics Class.
In Minecraft, Lodestones can be crafted using Stone Bricks and a Netherite Ingot, which we know is 50% gold.
Lodestones, in real life, are naturally occuring permanent magnets, made of a mineral called magnetite, which shares the same dark grey color as Netherite. From here it can be inferred that Netherite is actually magnetite, hence why Netherite is magnetic, as evidenced by its presence in the Lodestone crafting recipe. Well, the chemical formula for Magnetite is Fe3O4; oxygen and, more importantly, iron. Iron could be an essential component of Netherite, further proving MatPat's theory that iron is the strongest material in Minecraft, as it is a part of Netherite, alongside oxygen and gold.
TL;DR Netherite is actually a magnetic mineral that is partially made of iron.
So bassically netherite armor is like a springlick suit?

This is actually an amazing idea, adding steel to Minecraft!
I have always thought that it was weird that a solid block of iron would sound a lot more like, well, metal.
And Netherite sounds and looks, SO COOL, but it is so, ridiculously, rare, that it's not worth building with. (And I don't really like the rugged, rough texture)
_But,_ Steel would make sense have a similar color and sound to Netherite, and could have a much cleaner look, on top of being much, _much_ easier to get, and a simple upgrade to iron, but not better than diamond of course, by a gameplay standpoint...
I want to get a petition out, and I can even propose ideas for how it would be gotten!
Simply surround an iron ingot with chunks of coal, or alternatively (and perhaps better), upgrade iron with coal with the smithing table, and have a steel upgrade template to go with!

I have an idea. Why not add a new ore to Minecraft called manganese that would make an alloy ingot known as manganese steel. Manganese steel would be crafted in an alloy furnace with charcoal, iron ingots, and manganese ingots. Manganese steel tools would replace diamond and netherite tools with much more durability along with resistance to fire but not lava. Thus the new mangalloy armor and tools would not only be powerful but also easy to obtain since manganese ore is a common mineral irl.
