Sure, the diamond pillar contest was sort of started by him, by being the first to challenge scar, but I don't think he where the one escalating it, if I remember correctly (please correct me if I don't).

Grian could be troublesome for Jeff's plans, as the wars he inevitably starts will throw the market out of whack, not to mention everything else. If Jeff possessed Grian, then he could forcibly stifle any idea that could lead to a major conflict.

Ah Midas and the golden touch. The poor guys story didn’t end up well, as Apollo turned his ears to that of a donkey. He was ashamed and hid them, but his barber told some magic flowers who told everyone so he committed suicide. A bit depressing, as all he wanted to do at first was take care of his roses.
Just a quick note, the stories of the other seasons aren’t “Thanos snapped away” as we see in Rendog’s videos that each server is actually a planet? in a galaxy, and Season 7’s was referred to as “Sector HC-7” by the Renperor. We also see Cubfan go into Season 6 using magic crystals Scar sold him, and come back with Welsknight, who was left behind, and more items than before. We must conclude, then, that all the seasons aren’t destroyed, but left behind, and can always be returned to.
I also want to mention that Keralis did something similar, and brought back his dogs, Piña and Colada, to “Sector HC-7”.

Also, they're preserved for the fans to experience. I don't know if that's cannon or not, but I'd like to think it is. Future travelers can explore the worlds left behind by old gods, or something equally poetic.
Remember; mumbo sent sahara's diamonds to space and they arrived at the end of last season. And apparently, time travel is a thing bc of grain...
There was also that mansion bduds and docm77 purchased at the end of season 6 that they replicated as a starter base for season 7, another sign of some things carrying over

Hermitcraft has an interesting storyline system where each hermit makes a storyline and then the others have to figure it out or just interfere with it

I do find it interesting that this is happening on the season Mumbo has decided his goal is to be the richest hermit. Mumbo's IRL passion is film making. While they don't script storylines, Hermits have been known to coordinate. I could see him being brought on board.

One more important detail you didn't mention: Pooka is the one animating the cutscenes for X. So the guy who made the expanded Jeff lore is also directly involved. Which is great, 'cus that means it wasn't just a fan plot stolen by the original creators.
Even if he isn't involved in season 8, they can can just ask him if they can use it anyway, doesn't mean they stole it

Matpat… is the moon big?
What comes to mind when talking about the Midas items and the Midas curse on them is that, on day one of Season 9, Mumbo said that his goal was to become the richest hermit on the server. This could directly correlate to Jeff continuing into Season 9 from Season 8. Now, I haven't watched the cutscene where Jeff appears in the Nether bar or whatever it is, but there is someone in there resembling Mumbo Jumbo with red eyes and a yellow tie. There's also a red eyed Beesuma, though, so I'm not sure how much that correlates. The point that I'm trying to make, though, is that maybe Mumbo has been infected with the Midas virus in Season 9, or that it may have been a factor at the beginning of the server before King Ren took over.
(Also, Mumbo doing all that weird soul stuff in Season 8 could be why there's a version of him floating in the Nether bar)

This is probably entirely irreverent, but it's very strange to see A Hermitcraft theory without Mentioning the Watchers from Evo
Awesome video Matt Pat and everyone on the team. And potential theory idea for you guys. There's this game series that I absolutely love playing it's called "Trine". But the theory actually is particularly about the plot difference between the 3rd and 4th games. In the 4th game, you can collect these hidden items that build certain structures within the menu of the game. And after having collected them all you get a sneak peak as to the plot difference from the 3rd game. But all it ever says it's "some dog ate the pages conveniently after where the 3rd game left off." And I'm not sure if that's the real reason though but the only possible real reason I can come up with is that the game changed directors and thus plot lines. But do let me know if your thoughts should you ever feel the need to explore this. Again I love your guys work. Keep it up.

Petition for Matpat to try and solve the "Oldroot" ARG, a long since unsolved Minecraft ARG from the early 2010s, If you're able to solve the lore of Bon's Burgers and made a theory about Wilbur Soot's ARG and The Bob Mod. I’m rewatching this rn, and I just want to point out something: the cutscene animations in Xisuma’s videos were made by th3Pooka, the same person who made the fanmade videos
I find it hilarious that most of the lore was in Xisumas videos and I mostly watched grian and mumbo so I never realized there was some lore going on other than the “Is the moon big” bit which they used to justify an early end to the season

Kinda surprised there's not even a mention of the fact that Pooka... Is the one making Xizuma's animations. He's shown up in 'canon' and everything, avatar and all, for Xizuma to credit him. Kinda the strongest data point you could ask for as far as considering his prior work relevant to the current season: It's literally the same guy working on it. I guess this was probably in production a bit too long, that was only last month.

@@VitaeLibra Oh god a theory that is similar to another persons theory it must mean he ripped it off without crediting the other person, yeah right. so unless you have concrete evidence he copy and pasted that theory or almost copy and pasted the whole theory, then it means nothing. It's like someone else making the exact same topic as someone else, but not using it word for word means that person was copying that other youtuber. Oh Game theory makes theories, must mean he is copying every other channel, that makes theory videos as well. or every person who plays a specific video game is copying all those other gamer youtubers.
Not to mention that the end of season 8 was with the moon crashing into the world and every hermit freaking out and at dissaray, as well as the introduction of the hermit matrix, I’m exited for season 9

I never expected Hermitcraft to be a series you had to watch every season to understand everything in the later seasons
I rewatched this episode and I noticed one huge hurdle for evil X that I think no one makes light of that being Grian, who has been on quite the expensive life
I'm a little surprised this didn't touch on the current ARG going on with Doc and Ren. It might be a piece of the wider puzzle.
I think both plots are connected. I also think Herobrine is involved though X is mostly just playing off his presence as a joke so far.
