Hey guys, I have the same shifter on my Gen and the rattle is from the 2 set screws. Fixed it with loctite :)
Yeppp, when installing my short shifter my dumbass wanted to make sure I didn't have that issue so I made sure to tighten them...until one broke lmao.
Thanks for sharing! That is huge
Nice! Please do an update once the rattle is sort it out, but it seems like the overall shifting experience is much better ! 👍
Awesome guys! I’m definitely considering getting this done for my Genesis as well. I’ve seen enough positive reviews to make it worth it 👌
Shifter being installed by English Touch Performance in my 2016 3.8 R-Spec tomorrow.
Thank you for this video!
Was just following a FB post on someone that snapped the plate in half and a comment noted the plate should be on the bottom. Checked the instructions and confirmed
That shifter is dope! That's a awesome choice!
Great how you guys help each other out with to improve how your knobs..feeel
and two many nuts in your hand...wow....
and two guys testing how the new knob feels....
like a rifle bolt :)
N x
Matt’s Knob felt great in my hand.. oh and the new shifter felt pretty good too!
Great video. Never knew there was that shifter. Wonder if it works on the older cars
yes
I just showed up for the test drive 💁🏼♂️🤣
THAT RATTLE NEVER GOES AWAY...I HAVE MY ENTIRE DRIVELINE DONE AND IT STILL HAPPENS. ONLY IN NEUTRAL THO.
I'm sold
Have the shifter as well, the rattle to my understanding is expected. If you can find a fix you should definitely make a video on it cuz boy is it annoying. Used it without the set screws as well rattle was still there so i dont believe those are the issue either.
I know that this is old as fuck, but if you are like me and got to install this today, just a word of advice, the mounting plate goes under the car and not inside. When the plates are mounted under the car, everything sits flush against all surfaces.
how did you get the studs out of the trans tunnel? In the video you say 'push' but they dont move so i'm having to drill them out
You had this installed back when you raced the Rx8 right?
Genny 💕
I really want to buy either this or the irp shifter assembly. I'm just worried about rattle, I really dont want to pay nearly 600 dollars for a product that will annoy the hell out of me. I had figured these expensive complete assemblies wouldn't have the same rattle issues that normal 150 dollar short shifters do, but I guess not.
that's one tight knob.
Have you guys experienced having hard time putting the gear in high rpm with this short shifter? Thinking that maybe it's because of the transmission mount.
Any fix for the rattle in high rpms?
I have the IRP short shifter on mine similar set-up, and it too rattles in the higher revs. It's fine in sixth at 80mph so I'm fine with it.
i'm in between which one. Do you like it or do you think this one is better?
@@GabrielTheGuitarist I've only ever used the IRP never handled the coolerworx. That being said I'd buy the IRP again without a 2nd though. The mechanical adjustment makes 2nd gear lockout impossible. I have a video of me rowing gears on my page if you're interested. Nothing cool literally just me shifting.
Would you recommend this in my rx8 ? or should I keep the stock one which is short which you know
I have a 2010 RX-8 and I can't imagine a better shifter than the stock one.
Noticed when you went from 1st to second the car seemed jumpy j get that with my genny some times too. Do you know what's causing that? i bought the megan racing trans mount to hopefully fix that problem
I have the Megan trans mount and polyurethane rear diff mounts plus the 4th mount and I still get this a little bit. They just made the driveline very soft in these cars. I could get rid of it completely but this is my daily driver and I want to keep it somewhat comfortable.
I highly advise the front and rear subframe collars as well. It tightens up the slop inherent to the manufacturing process due to the oversized subframe bolt holes. You wouldn't think the subframes would shift around that much, but with the oversized holes to speed assembly (something most car manufacturers do), it adds up to a loss in handling and driveline shifting.
Did you fix the rattle and if so how did you do how?
I made it better by using a threaded shift knob instead of one that screws in from the top. It still does rattle a little due to the reverse lock out.
My shifter rattles when In gear and the faster I go!! Help
We swapped this knob out for a threaded one and that helps but I'm afraid that it's the reverse lock out that causes the rattling.
This isn't a cheap upgrade, costing €450 -€799 ($508 - $902 USD), but is well worth it for those looking to clean up the Genny shifter slop, as well as the persistent 2nd and 5th gear lockout issues. Pair this with a Megan trans mount and stainless braided slave cylinder line, and watch your manual GC turn into a completely different beast. Oh, and a Redline or AmsOil transmission fluid swap is a good upgrade too, according to the forums, and preferably before your synchros start crapping out.
Edit: anyone wanna buy my old ATQ short-throw shifter? MINT CONDITION! AND CHEAP!
still available?

Yes
Anyone found a fix to the rattle??
I found that wrapping the threads in electrical tape has gotten rid of 99% of the rattle. I’m sure swapping to a threaded knob would do it too.
Matt Wiser The threads on the shifter knob itself?
Black plate goes under the car Fyi

Your shifter is upside-down mate
