VINTED...A major closet clear out session.

- After much procrastination, I have cleared out one rail of clothes with two more to go. I have been ruthless in letting things go and I will be listing these on Vinted. I'll let you know when it's ready.
I tried to remember Marie's ethos in mind and know that the clothing had served its purpose and it was time to Let It Go! haha xx
It’s one thing to undertake a massive clearout but to try everything on and film it takes the job to a whole other level. Congratulations!

Phew , I felt exhausted for you! But well done for how much you achieved! Not an easy task, I even felt a little sadness, but I'm not sure why. My trouble has always been buying, usually a dress, that doesn't quite fit and telling myself, it will be fine when I lose a little weight. Which has never happened.
I've got that to do too! Little bit at a time is the key I think xx

Well done Helen. I was sweating just watching you. I did this to my wardrobe after I retired and realised I was buying clothes for a life I wasn’t living! It took a while to get there but now under control. I now just have mini clear outs. Its so much easier to get dressed in the morning with so much less to choose from!!!!

I agree .. and it is also fine to keep beautiful, well-made items from past years even if they don't fit. Personally, I have a separate closet where I keep items in this category.

My husband tells people that I keep the Evri couriers in our area in work and that I’m responsible for most of the stock in local charity shops…Hee Hee… I’m trying to be better but I do love shopping!
My father used to say the concrete in front of the front door was slowly sinking with all the packages dropped there!!

Well done. I am ruthless - if I haven’t worn it in a year out and goes and every time I buy something new I get rid of something. I have a small wardrobe and one chest of drawers. Works for me😊😊

I love a big clear out! I use Vinted loads and now have a rule - 1 in, 1 out! - lots to Charity, lots on Vinted. Well done 👏🏼
Marie Kondo helped me no end when we moved house - letting go of things that have fulfilled their purpose for me - and I use the ‘joy’ question now too x

Helen, I love you for not making me feel so bad. A chap I worked with told someone else in the office he had been there for six months and not seen me in the same outfit, after retiring it was a nightmare getting rid of stuff, and like you said your style does change. When you do see the light at the end of the tunnel you will be jumping for joy. I believe if you are a clothes lover this excess comes with he territory. Onwards and upwards girl I would like to buy loads of your clothes especially the pale pink and duck egg blue sequin tops. I hope I don’t get beaten on Vinted for these tops. GOOD LUCK with your declutter. 🤪🤪

Well done Helen that was a huge task. I love a good clear out and declutter and seeing the end result. When your clothes are organised you can actually see what you have. Some beautiful clothes that other women will really appreciate. Wishing I was a size 18 right now!

We are in the middle of renovating our master-bdrm and I've done the same thing...I couldn't believe the clothes I still had with the tag still on...which of course made it a very easy decision to get rid of! 😊Good Luck...I'm sure you won't have a problem selling them! This is a job I’ve been putting off for ages. It’s very true, I buy lots of clothes and then just go to the same usual dozen or so items. Hi Helen. Well done, that's an achievement. It's so hard to let go. I had a good clear out not long ago. A good tip I picked up is when you buy one item get rid of one item. I think we all go back to our favourites. I also think if I didn't wear it last year, I won't wear it this year so it goes. Good luck, you've done well so far x

It does make you feel better, I have been doing this gradually since I retired. My wardrobe has had a major refresh as I no longer need work clothes, my haul was so much smaller than yours🤣🤣 I really liked the yellow dress on you, I had a similar version from Next & it was inexpensive but so useful. Keep up the good work you are entertaining ❤

Well done Helen, you are an inspiration. Ruthless has always been a favourite word - when applied to others sorting out - not quite so easy on myself!!
Ive a complete wardrobe of clothes for 3 sizes (14,16 & 18) as my weight has fluctuated up and down over the years and post menopause. Ive now kept 12-14 for 2 years and you've inspired me to apply the 'Helen Ruthless' lens on myself. Like you I've beautiful stuff, especially from my Corporate Barbie office days ( I work from home full time post Covid, so work wear is very relaxed) but following your lead Im 'going in' with suitcases to fill for the charity shop. In Australia its just too much bother to photo, measure, describe and put up on site, then pack and post etc, for a very few dollars per item, so Charity shop can get the benefit.
Looking at my dressing room and overflow wardrobes in bedrooms, I realise I have a coat and jacket fetish - I mean how did that happen in a hot country???
The coat and jacket wardrobe may be one for when Mr Boozle is not around!!!😅

WOW Helen, I am in awe of you and the great job you have done so far. I must admit that I looked in my wardrobe today and started to "Be Ruthless" It didn't work, I looked at some trousers I had for work and thought I don't need these, but just could not get rid of them, so WELL DONE YOU for doing so well. I will give mine another go at some point in the near future as I to have too many things. Oh and on another note, I made some Lemonade Scones and my other half says they are the best one's he has had, so thank you for sharing the recipe

Dear Helen, I know exactly how you’re feeling as regards a wardrobe de clutter. In this country, we have a definite changeover between seasons so it certainly helps to decide what has been worn and the items which haven’t been taken off the hangers at all. However, there’s so much sentimentality and ‘what ifs’ attached to my pieces of clothing that I find the task of getting rid of things so hard.We have no charity shops or car boot sales so I’ve given many things to charity bazaars in aid of sick and stray animals but even they have become thin on the ground since the pandemic. I respect your ‘ruthless’ tactics and hopefully, you’ll find others who will enjoy your lovely items as much as you have. ❤️🥰

Oh Helen , it was obvious to see how you were gearing yourself up to the task in hand & , it took you longer because you were filming and trying the clothes on that you are going to put for sale on Vinted . A marathon ! You made me chuckle a bit , by the way you kept approaching the camera and saying " Ruthless ! " also when you bit on the coat hanger ! I could see how much energy it took as you became more frazzled and your hair ruffled as the video came to an end !
But well done . It is one of those jobs that everyone hates but you will feel satisfied when the task is done and be floating on a Marie Kondo cloud !! I can sympathise as I had to do a lot of that last summer, clearing my Mum's bungalow and have been cleaning through it whilst it has been for sale . Did all the windows outside today & was a red sweaty, melting mess when I had done ! 😅 But kept saying to myself , if you don't do it , who will ! 😅😅 Well done Helen , enjoyed your video xxx

Well done Helen. I just did mine also and feel really good now. I am trying to be more mindful when buying clothes to only buy clothes that I really love the instant they are on and know I will definitely reach for. It hard as I love shopping. Just finished my whole closet, it took two weeks with a few breaks. I donated two car fulls and threw out about 15 big garbage bags, and now it feels so good! What a project that was. And it's still almost full LOL. Don't know how it fitted in before.

I’ve been minimising my belongings gradually over the past 9 years. Firstly when downsizing my home after retiring, then when my marriage broke down and I had sort out who had what. I’ve recently done (yet another) wardrobe purge and my mantra this time was,
“If my wardrobe was on fire and I could save only what I loved, what would I choose?”.
It’s surprising how often I’d previously kept fast fashion items that were poor quality but now I have only what I really like and is worth keeping.
I’m sad about the evening dresses and work suits I chose to donate but only because I loved wearing them when I worked. There’s not much call for power suits and sequins in Eastbourne 😢.
