This video shows how to 'thread' a Carpet Serger Sewing Machine' (medium duty, three threads).
Most of these 'overlock sewing machines' are similar and intended to overcast raw edges of carpets to avoid fraying.Besides, they do a nice decorative binding.
To have a better view of 'threading process' I have detached two pieces of the machine as we can see at the beginning of the video.
In normal conditions it is not necessary to do it.
In fact, these machines use three mechanisms to do the sewing: a single 'needle bar' on top, same as a regular sewing machine where a 'thin thread'passes through its 'needle eye' and continues its movement down through. Two 'loopers' that work underneath, one works with another 'thin thread', and the other one holds a thick 'woolen thread'.
I particularly would consider this machine of great help and it should be in an upholstery shop.

Simplemente lo que hago es recrear lo que ya está inventado hace muchos años. Hace 40 años trabajé en un taller que usaba esta 'máquina overlock alfombrera' para darle el acabado a las alfombras que los maestros cortábamos a la medida para tapizar los pisos de los carros.

Excelente Maquina
Efectivamente, es una máquina muy útil a pesar que es para trabajo mediano. Hay otras así de pequeñitas pero mas poderosas para coser alfombras mas gruesas, incluyendo hule de refuerzo que llevan debajo.

One thick/soft 2 strand wool thread 3/32" thick. (it goes in one looper beneath)
Two polyester threads 138 size...one for another looper below and the other one for the needle on top.

Estimado José, me parece muy buena idea. Esta máquina es 'semi-industrial'. Hay otras mas fuertes para 'servicio pesado' , si tiene pensado fabricar tapetes reforzado con hule en la parte inferior. Las máquinas 'over' alfombreras vienen con tres hilos.

Your edges look so full, is that third heavier woolen thread something you use with this machine in particular, or is it a general surging trick to get a fuller edge like that? This overlock machine is a 'medium-duty carpet serger'. Most of these machines work with three threads. Two thin threads and one woolen thicker thread to form the ornament on the edge.

Si conozco Venezuela. Estuve hace muchos años cuando era un país muy rico y creo que sigue siendo por la cantidad de recursos con los que cuenta. Ojalá regresaran aquellos tiempos de bonanza cuando existían tapicerías gigantes dirigidas por emigrantes griegos, italianos y colombianos.

Thank you very much for this video, some moments were very helpful, because printed manuals never can be so illustrative and clear. The machine itself seems to be some variation or derivative of Singer's 81 class, which is widely spread all over the world in numerous clones and reincarnations. The differencies lay in the knife mechanism and, maybe, in the right looper, it's holes look bigger than in the common 81 class, am I right? Or the machine in video is much more different to the 81 class?
You are right, most of these machines are similar and based on same principles. I do not know much about the history of these machines, but I am aware the Singer 81 is before the other three thread carpet sergers.

La máquina alfombrera lleva 3 hilos. Uno de lana y dos de hilos delgados que usamos para tapicería. En el video estoy usando el hilo que usamos para sobrecoser y es mas grueso que el estandar para hacer las costuras para uniones de piezas.

Nunca he tenido una Yamato DCY 103. Al parecer es un modelo un poquito mas antiguo pero es de 3 hilos, por consiguiente si serviría para ribetear alfombra.
Disculpe no poder darle mas información ya que solamente tengo videos de las máquinas que poseo en mi taller y no me dedico a este campo. Yo solo soy un simple tapicero de carros.

Hola disculpa tengo un máquina igual nada más que está desajustada, crees que se pueda ajustar.
Si es posible que su máquina la vuelvan a reajustar para que cosa como debe ser.
La mayoría de técnicos que reparan máquinas de coser también reparan/ponen a tiempo las overlock.

1.- Qué tipo de aceite utiliza esta yamato DCY 108 y
2.- Qué características del hilo se utiliza para coser adecuadamente en alfombra?
Mi agradecimiento anticipado por su atención.
Utiliza el mismo aceite para máquinas de coser marca Singer.
Como se aprecia en el video son tres hilos que se usan. Dos delgados de polyester N° 8 (N°92 en USA) y uno de lana (el mismo que se utilizan para tejer). El hilo de lana no debe ser muy grueso porque de ser así no lo agarra el gancho que está debajo.

nice video its so slow that all can se what you are doing. can you help me out with the size and brand of needle you use. i have the same machine and think i use the wrong needle. you are treading the needle at 3 min 10 sec in the video
The needle size is 110=18 It measures 31.5 mm from the top to the lower needle point. I don't remember the brand. I've already checked it and it is erased.

It has been designed for 3 threads, two thin and a woolen thick one. Especially for carpets, not for fabrics.

Esta máquina de coser es una 'overlock', para rematar los 'bordes ásperos' de las alfombras. En este caso para los pisos alfombrados de los carros, dándole un mejor acabado y evitar que los filos se deshilachen.

Holas, estas maquinas overlock llevan unas navajas para cortar el material excedente al borde de la costura, se las quito para este material ?? alguna otra modificacion o cambio de pieza que le haya echo a la maquina?? tnks
Si algunas traen la cuchilla que corta los bordes. Casi todos los modelos de overlock alfombreras vienen asi.

Hello, It is not of new usage. As far as I remember, 40 years ago it was in vogue to 'overcast the edges of car carpets' by using a 'carpet serger'. Some shops use it, others don't.

Saludos, son marca Feiyue gn10-3 y yamato gn10-3d, aunque si son de tres hilos. Buena pregunta... no se como identificar si es alfombrera. Inclusive fui a ver físicamente esta que recomendó para ver las características y poder conseguir algo más accesible y fue como me di a la tarea de buscar las 2 que le digo que compre
La Yamato si es la misma semindustrial que muestro en el video. ¿Ya hizo alguna prueba? Como podemos ver en el video lleva 2 hilos delgados (uno a la aguja y otro a uno de los ganchos) el tercer hilo de lana va al otro gancho. El hilo de lana no debe ser muy grueso para que alcanze a dar la vuelta en el borde y forme el adorno.
De la Feihue, desconozco si es alfombrera o no.
Ud. comenta que no le dan el resultado esperado.¿Es decir si están cosiendo?
La distancia de la costura del hilo de lana es muy pequeña, eso creo yo (cuanto mide el adorno? Del hilo de lana?) y que aguja esta utilizando?, que tan alta es? Las que estoy utilizando creo que son sistema DC X 1, 90/14
El adorno mide 1 cm de ancho. La aguja que tiene esta máquina es N° 18=110 mide 1 1/4 de pulg de largo (3.15 mm aprox.)
