A bow type/ suspended headliner - Auto Upholstery for beginners
✅Get our courses at: www.cechaflo.com
-----------------------------
The first automobiles in the late 40s, 50s until the 70s had this kind of liners for their roof interiors. The classic VW beetle is one of this range.
I have considered it important to refresh these upholstery techniques because by this time there are car restorers that love these vintage cars.
A mock-up is of great help to understand the how-to process.
Most of the car owners want the car trimmer to replicate the same OEM design. What to do if we do not have the old headliner pattern. In a part of this video I have given the clue to pattern the panels from scratch.
As we can see the insulation padding helps to keep the rods in place making the patterning process easier. Otherwise it would be a frustrating moment.
Let's not forget the use of thin materials that could be vinyl, fabric or leather. If we use a heavy material there is a risk of headliner hanging.
Due to the car's movement and weight of the liner material, the steel rods turn over upside down. Harder rods would be the solution to avoid this issue.
A tip to keep the rods and headliner itself in place while the assembling process is the use of 2 'tensioners' in the front part and two in the rear on both sides.
These 'tensioners' are made of thin wires. One end is fastened to a little hole in the frame. The other end is fastened to the rod which is inside the listing or sleeve.
I want to underline that this video is a basic one that would take us to understand much better how to tackle a real headliner on a car.
I want to devote this video to all my CZcams followers and unfollowers who are eager to learn this marvelous artcraft!

Please don't make the mistake I made and order premium quality Vinyl ATV seat cover, which turned out to have ZERO stretch in the fabric. Thought I could apply heat gun to it, but all it does is melt the fabric or ruin the surface texture. Getting hold of the right material for your seat shape is a must.

"As we can see, these stitches could be done in combination. The diamond stitches for close corners to get a tight junction and the other decorative hexagonal shape on the flat area of the steering wheel rim." Would it be a "bad" thing to do the whole steering wheel with the diamind stitches?
The whole hand sewing can be done in one pattern 'diamond stitches'. czcams.com/video/VTY6uWmRUzY/video.html
Why the changes in the sewing? What started then became something different and then even that changed! How come?
First, both are called European stitches. Because of the tight corners in some steering-wheels it is advisable to use a short pattern to get a close edge junction. If we do not have this issue, then one flat longer pattern(hexagonal shape) can be done all along the rim.
