There’s a difference between feeling guilty & actually being guilty
He was both.
Raul Esparza is one of the best actors I've ever seen on screen, you can always see his brain working through his eyes. Like the "Oh, crap, we're goners on this case", or "We got this case." His eyes are a true window to his soul.
I agree he was so natural
I’ve always loved the look he got on his face when he knew he got something he could use at trial.
“i did what i thought was right”
i’m crying
Everybody acted exquisitely in this in this episode. Raul Esparza wrote his name in concrete when he took on the role of Barba. There were no winners in this episode, it cut deep! The writers outdid themselves this this one, heartbreaking in every section.
IS IT OKAY TO CRY WHEN I WAS WATCHING THIS??? Did anyone else cry when Barba said that he started to see colors when he met Benson??? And when he kisses her on the forehead??? I started bawling at that scene
Gabby Hendricks cried like a baby 💔
Gabby Hendricks he should've stayed and married Olivia
He was so in love with her, damn the writers for not putting them together.
wait what episode is this from
Ayano Aishi, wow! I didn’t know he loved Olivia like that.
He’s so compassionate, empathetic and totally in the right. He gave mercy for the child. He’s not a killer. Nope.
Exactly. It may not have been his decision to make but he freed that baby from all the pain. He did the right thing
Exactly it’s not like the baby had cancer or some other type of treatable illness…Drew couldn’t even breathe w/o a ventilator and he was just gonna continue to deteriorate until he finally passed away and that’s why the jury found him not guilty….baby Drew Householder was suffering and they saw Barba not as a killer but as the man who saved him from years of pain-I lost my grandfather to ALS back in 2014 after watching him suffer for over two years with the disease so I can understand the compulsion to want to spare someone, especially a child years of pain and suffering
What??? But talking his life 😢😮 it was still not his decision to make 😔😭 I bet you if this was stone y'all would have been ripping him into pieces for that one if it was stone I guess perhaps 😢
@alexandraanderson3988 it’s okay. You’re emotionally immature and weak, and if it was you the baby would suffer even more. Also, if you watched the episode you’d see it was in fact his decision to make, and it was the right one. Just because your brain is too smooth to understand that there are worse things than death, doesn’t mean everyone else suffers your stupidity too.
I cried for 2 hours straight after he left and I'm still crying I dont think the show will ever be the same without Barba. He was a smart, witty, compassionate, caring one of the best characters on the show and I’m glad he was on it ☺️ but he could possibly come back they writers left the door open but for now lets grab the tissues we got a lot crying to do 😭😢 Raul you will be missed! We ♥ U! You are apart of the SVU family I hope you come back maybe for 1 or 2 episodes. I am glad I got the honor to meet you on set along with Kelli and Peter. I remember you saying you had spaghetti 9 times last week. We will all miss you dearly 😊😣
I feel the same way and I Cried too
Amanda Rollins ,I love barba,my favorite character!
Amanda Rollins, you Barba and Liv were by far MY BEST characters on SVU!!!! You guys are the reason i fell in love with crime investigations and rape cases... I'd try and solve the cases while also watching the show😁😁.... and it helped me get through alot on some of the cases
. So thank you so much💖💖💖👏🏽👏🏽❤️💯💯😘all of you
Did barba go to jail or what happened to him?
@@XxShadowStreamxX He was found Not Guilty but he left the city and quit his job because of the guilt he felt. Btw episode hightlight is: Two Friends Say Goodbye.
Let's just hope NBC give's Barba his own show. Where he can shine in all his glory.
spirittammyk Your crazy if you think thats gonna happen
I agree “ADA BARBA”
thats wishful thinking. Barba deserved better on the show. Raul is an AMAZING ACTOR, picked the best guy to potray this ADA
@@bernanditadevera4375 "This is his story"
Rafael Barba is the best ADA that SVU has had. Period. I’m done with the show.
Lexie O. Me too
Same here. This is just the final straw really. I know Esparza chose to leave, but I can't blame him. The writers have given his character virtually nothing. His character had no personal story arc at all, and when they finally did give him a compelling plot--the death threats--the writers dropped the entire story line like it never happened. We never found out who hired the stalker. I can't imagine that didn't piss Esparza off. They can find plenty of air time for us to watch Benson feed her kid at the kitchen table, but they can't fit in even the tiniest bit of personal life for the friggin' ADA?
I wanted always more for barba! He is amazing and he is the best ADA. I don’t want Cabot or anyone else! All the others were lacking . He fit in with the SVU team very well . Argh
+ Lexie O.,
What about Alexandra "Alex" Cabot? Stephanie March portrayed her. She was great too. Yeah, I will miss Barba, but Benson is a real cool leader.
:'( That hurts.
The emotions on Barba’s face.
Raul Esparza is one of the best actors; he shows a vulnerability not many people are willing.
AND he can sing! 🥰
Amazing dude 👏
Raul deserves an award for this performance! It moved me to tears and gave me a newfound respect for Raul.
I’M NOT CRYING, YOU’RE CRYING!! Best ADA they ever had, it’s not gonna be the same without him 😭😭😭
I can't believe Taub is questioning Barba
He's his defense attorney.
Taub is also on Fear The Walking Dead as a badass zombie killing rabbi.
"I did what I thought was right." the little quiver in Barba's voice i felt so bad for him so happy when he was found not guilty sad when he left🥺🥺
Rafael Barba is without a doubt the best ADA that SVU will ever have. I stopped watching any new ones after her left. It is incredibly difficult to make me cry, but seeing the tears in those beautiful green eyes, I admit I cried. Raul Esparza is a tremendous actor and you could hear the pain in his voice when he said his lines.
Rauls acting is just so spot on as barba. Gotta love him! Raul and barba!!
Yeah, if hes gone, then I'm done with the show. He's the only reason why I got back into it again since Stabler left.
spirittammyk they finally managed to keep an ADA around for more than a season and it hits the fan
spirittammyk funny how Munch, Casey Novak, Dr. Huang and Alex Cabot were the only SVU members to make reappearances in the show!
YamiAlex224
They had two ADAs that lasted for longer than a season before Barba.
TVLubber I think they mean one that lasted THE LONGEST. Cabot was there for 2 but still came back and then Novak was there for 4 but still came back here and there. Barba was there for 5 seasons. And Barba leaving was VERY emotional... even I cry when I think about it still
same!
I don't understand why Barba's gone in the middle of the season. There's 10 episodes left. How can Barba just leave like this? It would have made more sense if they had this episode as the season finale.
February Sweeps.
He’s also in a broadway show it has to do with the schedule for that
HIS CHARACTER WAS JUST GETTING MORE GROUND
Taub! I'm glad to see that the actor that played Taub in House was in this episode. That being said, this is an extremely emotional, gripping and charged scene that makes us question where we draw the line at euthanasia. I must say that Raul Esparza did an excellent job portraying the guilt and grief that Barba felt after taking baby Drew's life. Rafael Barba will now have to live not only with the agonizing guilt of what he did but also the legal ramifications as well. I think this was an excellent departure for Raul Esparza and I wish him nothing but the very best in the future.
Barba was the best SVU ADA ever... He will be missed!
i'm back to crying again. we will miss you rafael barba
Barba will definitely be missed. Hopefully he comes back for some episodes.
Barba is the main reason I watched this show! I can't stop crying after watching this episode!
Barba is the best ada SVU has had so far. No one can top our favorite sassy Cuban ada.
TaylerMarie13 Not even Alex Cabot?
omg svu will not be the same without barba. will be so missed!!!
im CRYING
crying also
I’m still crying wth
super honest you have a good point
Omg I deeply hope he's coming back !!!
But Raùl's tweet make me think he's not coming back sadly T^T
"Goodbye Barba. Thank you. You changed my life. My sqaud. And you, you always, my Liv, my friend Mariska. I will always treasure my time with all of you"
Does anyone else here agree that Barba did the right thing
Yes. That poor baby didn't need the pain anymore
Idk if I do.
@@karolynn253 you'd prefer to leave that infant in constant torture, cuz death is "wrong?" Even when his parents and doctors wanted to turn off the machines but weren't allowed?
S Kael sane with dogs
S Kael So is it right to kill someone with an incurable illness? Where do you draw the line?
This episode was SOOO emotionally intense from the start & it only got heavier as it continued. Such a heartbreaking story & how much it affected everyone (especially Barba) was so sad to watch. Fantastic episode, but still unbelievably heartbreaking
Barba was one of my favorites from the new seasons, he and Cabot are my favorite DAs
I love him...Hes the one who keeps this show going....so done...crying 😥😥😥
“Do you feel guilty”
What a loaded and effective question. Sometimes this show does a well job with the writing. But I miss Barba as the ADA.
I miss Barba! He and Liv were the heart of the show.
Mariska Hargitay as Captain Olivia Benson is the heart of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit SVU and Raul Esparza as Rafael Barba was very good on it and he is missed but he choose to leave the show.
Actually no 😭👎 just Liv ❤😢😔 tbh Olivia Benson
It really doesn't make sense that a smart man like him would end his career this way. The writers SMDH.
Just like it doesn't make sense 😕😔😢 for him to come back and be defending that bad guys on the show but hey they made it happen tbh 😔😭 If he was really a smart man in my opinion he wouldn't have done this what he just did here 👍✅ or that defending criminals tbh
@@alexandraanderson3988Agree, he defended a man who killed Stabler's wife. I lost respect for his character at that point.
@alexandraanderson3988 shut up weakling. You’d let a child suffer for your own peace of mind. You’re despicable
its been great guys but this is where i leave and become a hermit on a deserted island
kaynary yeah. Been a great run
kaynary 100% AGREE
Honestly, I’m not surprised Esparza chose to leave. The writers gave his character so little and, much worse, deliberately failed to followup on the few compelling story lines they did give him. Whatever happened to the death threats at the end of season 17? They told us the guy was being paid “by someone” to stalk Barba and threaten him, and then that entire story line just vanished.
Writers have been doing this crap for years now..PLOT BAITING. Giving the audience little suggestive snippets of possible future story arcs and then never following through on them. They visually implied that Benson was becoming a drunk...nothing came of it. They visually implied that Carisi and Rollins were getting romantically involved...nothing came of it. They are still giving little hints that Carisi is seeing someone, and I’d bet they’ll drop that too eventually.
Enough is enough. I’m done with this show. In fact, I’m done with all the seat-of-your-pants network shows that obviously don’t storyboard and don’t plan their friggin’ story arcs IN ADVANCE. They pepper their episodes with false foreshadowing just to give themselves plot routes later, the vast majority of which they won't use. That's just...horrible story crafting. Imagine if book series were written that way.
Agree
It’s so funny you mention those things because I just started rewatching some of my favorite episodes and remember thinking “huh I don’t remember what ever happened with this guy who’s threatening Barba?” And then “wait... did benson become an alcoholic like her mother was to deal with the trauma of her being held hostage? How do I not remember this...” because I guess they never did anything with it! Wtf!? I’m actually mad... they also teased us with Nick and Rollins and nothing ever really came out about that (it was like all the good parts happened off camera and we saw tiny snippets that never amounted to anything.)
I agree with you. I have been doing a rewatch and in addition to what you said, they give Olivia the juicy parts and the show lost its fun morality episodes. Olivia is always right.
Fun fact.. Pete Jacobson, who's playing the lawyer here, also played a criminal, Bart Ganzel, in season 14 who tried to kill undercover Cassidy. But the lawyer he's portraying here in season 19 (and one time before that in season 18) Randy Dworkin is actually a character from season 14 (2003) of the original law and order series.
My heart hurts 💔. He gave that show that extra touch. He deserved a better ending at least and it’s like we were finally getting to see a different side of Barba. I’m happy that Raúl will be doing his own thing but I hate what they did to his character... sloppy ending!
Don’t Leave Barba you one of my best SVU
His character was beautiful and full of compassion, I have always loved Barba.
Well, it was nice while it lasted. Bye bye ADA Barba, you were awesome- one of my favorites. You will be dearly missed.
Something like this always happens just when you're comfortable with it and make a change.
It’s going to be very hard in 2 weeks to look at the opening credits and see Barba’s spot empty..
Nicholas R. Don’t get me started on that part 😭😭😭
💔
I think they’re gonna put that Peter Stone guy in his slot 😭😭
The girl on plié I’d be very upset if they gave him the “and Credit”. Raúl Esparza didn’t start off with that credit and eventually earned it around season 17.
Nicholas R. True I didn’t think of that, and I agree! Raúl was phenomenal! He deserves better!
IM REALLY NOT OKAY
One of the best actors to ever grace this show
This makes my heart hurt. That character was amazing and gave so much hope to this show.
So many are done with the show because of Barba leaving. I wonder how they will get their watchers now
gingerbreadANIME I think their next episode is gonna have a record low watch rate
He's the reason I started watching this show again, and now. .I don't know. .
Oh we all know non of them will stop watching lol
Actually the viership went down after he left... Almost no one likes the new ADA
gingerbreadANIME why don’t you people like Peter he’s on of the best characters on this show he’s the definition of bravery
Barbara was the best (& sexiest) ADA SVU ever had. That man loved Olivia probably as much as Elliot did. I loved this man since his first episode ever.
This was one of the saddest episodes I ever seen, I cried through most of it
This hurt so bad seeing him up there.
I’m just here still screaming and crying about this episode. I miss Barba soooooo much. I know they had him again recently but I hope they bring him in again more. He was truly the best 💖
I'm crying cause Barba opened my heart ❤ I miss him. Please come back Raul esparza. Best ADA ever. It's just not the same. U inspired to go to Harvard Law school. I can't thank u enough for the show and my dream of the law. U and Sam Waterson, thank u! God bless!
I love Barba !!! He’s the best ADA the show has had! They need to put him back on there some how! If they can bring people from the dead , they can bring him back!!!!!!!😢😢😢
Barbara was probably my favorite character. He can be so damn intimidating and make people feel so uneasy without saying a word and yet could be the greatest person ever.
Definitely not gonna be the same without Barba. I can’t imagine any other prosecutor topping his character
Despite TV and Film, you can't ask a defendant if they feel guilty. That kind of question is almost prosecutorial misconduct to even think of asking.
I love Barba. He’s amazing.
I'm gonna say that when I met this man at Ford's Theater in Washington, DC. I recognized him almost instantly mainly because of this scene and just how much of an amazing job he did on the show. It was a pain to hear he left the show. I hope someday I run into him again just to talk to him as a human being and not just an idol. Just to see how he's doing, if he remembers me anyway.
i started crying when barba eyes started watering i hate seeing him like that
Barba was the best assistant district attorney this show ever had.
Ben Stone from the original Law and Order was the best DA in my opinion but Barba brought his acting "A" game in SVU and is such an amazing actor, he gives the actor that played Ben Stone a run for his money. This guy is so under rated, its absolutely a crime.
I wish all the best for Raul Esparza, because he is pursuing a project with Broadway. However, I will NOT continue to watch SVU without Barba. They say the door is open for his return, but I'll believe it when I see it. Until then, BUH-BYE!
Lunasent same. I'm grieving. Not gonna put myself through the torture of watching without him
Lunasent I wish him the best in all his endeavours.
Shennie Finlayson Agree!
Lunasent i heard somewhere that he will return after the broadway not sure
misslis25 This is why "fanfiction" and "archives of our own" is a thing. I'll come out of my hidy hole of fics when I hear he's coming back.
Damned Taub is really talented, working in both medical and legal sectors.
Still can't believe what happened... 😭
Who the hell is cutting onions. The effin feels. Brilliant acting from raul.
Barba is the best ADA that the show ever had all the way back to 1999. He’s part of what made the show interesting and that you wanted to keep watching him. I know Raul left on his own accord but I really freaking wish he hadn’t.
This is one of the saddest episodes I've seen. I cried for two hours afterwards.
I just can’t believe they had barba go out like that, he deserved much more then that, I would’ve rather him have moved away or something, he would never kill anyone, regardless of the reason. 🤷🏽♀️
Raul chose to leave the show.
This show will always mean alot to me but I seriously can't anymore. All good things must come to an end. Thanks to everyone @ SVU for all the good years, the cast., the crew, the extras and producers and directors etc. I'd like to thank everyone except the writers because clearly the writers all simultaneously forgot how to do their jobs correctly.
Typical childish reaction. “I didn’t like the way this made me feel so the writers suck! Wahhhhh 😭”
This is one of a small handful of SVU episodes that made me cry
Raul is great actor :)
Barba crying almost made me cry
He's willing to go to jail for the life of a baby who would never of had a life
I miss Barba so much
Barbs filled that gap when stabler abruptly left and once Carissi joined the cast I was happy and content but now my reason for watching the show is gone..I have a feeling this show is winding down
Sometimes in life, even the goodest people break the law/rules.
I'm crying fr 😭😭😭
Barba is a great ADA on the Law & Order SVU episodes he gets his cases work out .
Watch this episode once it’s air but couldn’t bring myself to watch it again..me n my sister are yelling at the tv when he pull that life support..😭😭😭 i need barba back..
It’s so ironic to see that Stone ended up in almost the same exact position as Barba just over one season later. Benson has one hell of an effect on people. Or maybe it’s because SVU is where you’ll often see the worse humanity has to offer.
Barb is a awesome actor I love the guy he is the sweetest person
This really pisses me off, I never thought I would watch this show again after Chris left, Elliot and Olivia were great together, I never thought I would see chemistry like that again until Barba, what the hell is wrong with these writers, we get Olivia with Tucker and Brain, while Barba is right there in front of her his love for her strong.
Elliot and Olivia has to be my least favorite detective pair in all Law and Order that I have seen because of the romantic chemistry
You're an embecile. Learn how the world works before speaking
I cried like hell in this episode and shocked as hell!!!!!
Damn, Taub must've picked up a few things from House.
Killing is wrong no matter what spin you put on it. It doesn’t matter who does it or why. However, I think he did the right thing. No matter the cost.
Rip Baby Drew.
I will never stop crying l over him bc he left i cryed for so long after he left still am. Why why! He was my fav in law and order svu i miss him 😭😭😭😢😭😭💔
oh hey its taub
I'm actually mad, right now
Thoughtfully Processing girl, I’m tight right now. Emotional. Heartbroken. Furious.
I'm bawling
I would venture to say 75% of us would pull the plug if our child was laying there in constant pain hooked to a ventilator for the rest of their life and the other 25% would pray for someone like Barba
What he did wasn’t evil, it was merciful.
This is such a heartbreaking, gut-wrenching scene.
💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
I miss him on svu
OOOHH GOOSH I MISSED THE EPISODE!! WHYYYYY!!! 😭😭😭😭😭
"Do you feel guilty sir?"
"I do"
Taub as an attorney. Imagine if House was an ADA on this show.
I LOVE LAW & ORDER
I'm going to miss him.
He's such a moving character
Cried sooo hard !!!!!!! Can’t believe this no!!!!! I feel like everyone living and Olivia and ice-t only ones stay on that’s good because they bouth my favorite :(
The way they wrote Barba off the show with this storyline doesn’t sit well with my spirit. It felt slightly out of character for him. Still miss him on SVU and he was the best ADA
