- New for 2018, the Kawasaki Ninja 400 has put all manufacturers and their low displacement beginner-friendly models on alert. With its 399cc parallel twin producing 43.4hp and 24.6lb-ft of torque, the little Kawi packs fantastic power to displacement figures (The amount of power produced per cubic centimeter of engine displacement). Combine this power with an ergonomically engineered riding position that would make even the most comfortable sport tourers look on in awe, and you’ve got a serious competitor for best entry level motorcycle.

Endorsed for 42 years, my 5th cycle after a hiatus from raising children and coming down from a 1000cc Cruiser this bike makes me giggle every time we ride!! You can actually ride this to it’s potential or not!
I just made my first oil and filter change which is a breeze. I would recommend this to newbies and to guys like me that wanted to pay cash for a small, lightweight fun cycle!!
Very awesome feedback for potential buyers! Thanks for the comment!
Yeah
I'm waiting for versys 400 hopefully next year.
Love that dolphin grey tank. Just the right amount of yellow and black. One of the best colour schemes I've seen for years.
This is gonna be my first bike without a doubt about before i step up into the realms of the 600+ bikes.
OBELISK3210 you end up buying it? How you like it? I got my license in summer but I think ima look to get a 400 next year as first bike
@@filipnine Check out the 650abs, with a 125-400cc paying 5300 isn't worth it since you can pay that same amount for a 600cc superbike. But you're a learner, and for low experience i would suggest the 650 ABS it's a parallel-twin from Kawasaki, great starter. Engine wise it cannot compare to a super bike but you won't get bored of it that fast and it's actually fun around twisties and it's very forgiving when it comes to riding it if you make a mistake like slight whiskey throttle. They are also very light and nimble for a 425 pound motorcycle. and for a parallel-twin 650 it has decent torque and power to get around in the low 200's of kph.
@@iphone202020220 agreed.Especially if you are more of a tall and chunky guy(i'm 6'5" and 210 lbs and the 400 is just too small for me.Got my eyes on the 650 and actually sat on one and it feels much more stable and fitting for a bigger fella.
@@menrathmatei4402 I agree man and the tank is also not so wide so even shorter people can also have a good time on the 650. The new 2020 model looks a bit better spec wise.
One of my friends just bought one(2019 model), it's very light on fuel as well. We rode through the mountains about a week ago, it had no problem with the long roads or twisties.Loads of fun around corners as well. I also do agree, myself being 205+lbs (not sure my height in feet but it's 1.99M), the motorcycle felt good while riding it as well.
@@iphone202020220 Good stuff my man.Glad to hear that ,now i'm even more excited to get the license and get on that bike.Cheers and stay safe!
omg i need this. that paint.........speechless.
Thwompthing I personally would be getting it in green
it looks a lot better in person. I saw this bike in the mall parking lot and I fell in love
Absolutely great bike to ride. I have had mine for 3 months and I have had no complaints about the bike. Great handling and has enough power to get you out of a sticky situation.
I bought the 2018 Ninja 400 last May.....and have put 5000 miles on it.....I rode bikes way back in the day....I'm 60 years old and love this bike.....will I go to a bigger bike?...yeah maybe, but I'm having a blast on this 400.....with it's relatively light weight I can throw it into corners.....I live in Escondido, Ca. and there are so many great rides 10 minutes away in the back country.....sweepers...esses...nobody around and I love it!.
I paid $5500.00 with the ABS....it's a great bike at a killer deal.
$5500 including dealership fees?
really good in depth review i'm planning on making this my first bike as soon as i get a steady job
That Color Scheme is starting to grow on me. Thanks for the Review.
You're welcome! Thanks for the positive vibes :)
DukeOfDC no problem!!
When I first seen the grey/yellow scheme my first impression was "its undercoat with highlights".
@@K10wNs-Shedlol
@@DukeOfDC you know what duke I just realized your from the DC area and im working in Herndon, Va for a couple weeks...lol
This was super helpful, thanks Duke. Much Appreciated
You’re very welcome! Glad it helped out :)
Great overview man, I've been thinking about getting this and really appreciate this as someone who just started riding this summer.
After watching this video and a few others i went and bought this bike same color and size. Ive had it for about three months and i love it. Keeps up with bigger bikes and just fun to ride.
Best review I've seen on this bike. I'm sold. Thanks for posting!
I'm on Team Ninja since the 250 days. They are well rounded for do it all. Wanna cruise? it is comfortable for 3+ hour rides. Wanna wring it's neck out? It will do it all day and leave you with a grinn. All the while, it will forgive most of your mistakes.
Though the narrow tank on the 400 disappointed. I Think that the 300 was the most ergonomic version of the small Ninjas.
Awesome video!!!! keep up the good work 👍👍👍
Thank you!!!
thanks mate! this vid made me decide to settle on Ninja 400. awesome!
thanks dude this was very helpful
Most of the things he said were wrong, but this bike is literally the best for beginners. He short shifts like crazy and claims the bike doesn't feel good over 5k rpms so i can tell he doesn't really know what hes talking about, as the bike feels awesome over 5k
Official_Kreep ok thanks for letting me know my dude
super cool
I just got this bike last Sunday. It’s my first bike and I’m absolutely loving it!
had the 2023 ninja 400 for over a year now and i’ve been nothing but happy with it. make sure you ride around the middle and upper rev range and it comes alive. only time i’m in 6th is on the highway
1st time watched your video & I absolutely loved it ❤️❤️❤️❤️👌👌👌👌👌
Nice review. Job well done sir! 👍🏻👏💯🇺🇸🏍
Nice job buddy. God to see you back 👍
Thank you my friend!
I read a lot about this it’s amazing :D
Beautiful design!
The Ninja 400 is just an amazing "low cc bike"!!!
I love it💚
Lol I like that "low cc bike" vs "beginner bike"
Great review man I’m in la plata and you’ve made me want this bike for sure
I’m So glad you enjoyed the review!
My first bike and I just bought this exact model. Can't wait to get out on it!
amazing video and great advice
Thank you!
It feels *really* strange for someone to introduce their video from Hagerstown. Living here, I feel in the middle of nowhere. What are the chances. haha
Just hearing Maryland wowed me 😂😂. I'm in white marsh.
The roads look nice in the middle of nowhere
Just bought my ninja 400 two weeks ago from Twiggs
Haha I’m in Fred bro
Great video! Keep it up
Thank you! Always appreciate positive vibes.
So educating, good video
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
holly color combo " awesome video bruh
Thank you!!

I have this exact 2018 solar pearl ABS ninja 400 and it's my 7th motorcycle, and it's by far my favorite. The only sportbikes I owned before this was a cb300f and R3 yamaha, the ninja 400 is perfect
The Ninja 400 is just a bloody good little sportbike and class leading if you ask me. I own a 1000 supersport but still find this 400 fantastic. It's not only good novice little bike as it's also a brilliant everyday/third Or second bike. Great little Kawa!
Which one is faster ? The 400 or the 650? Be honest which one do u think is better between thos 2
@@juanalcantara3829 Yes the 650 is better and faster and we tested both so I am very familiar with both Ninjas. That been said I still maintain that the Ninja400 is the best small capacity sportbike. Same can be said about the Z400 whic is equally impressive and the naked design place less focus on the speed issue. Price wise I will not opt for a new Ninja650 as I would rather buy a used 600 4cyl supersport bike like a CBR600RR,R6 or ZX6.
I can confidently second this opinion!
I am getting one soon and I am a beginner but I made the decision to start a training course first. I saw the lime green one in a dealership just to sit on and loved it so your video was like a gem to find,I am so excited! Keep these vids coming, it's always great to get insight from experienced drivers
Thank you so much for the positive vibes and kind words! I wish you the best of luck with your training course. You're definitely doing the right thing by taking the course first.
I bought the Ninja 400 straight out of msf course last November, I was a brand new rider with no experience. At first, I was constantly scared of dropping my bike, going over 25 mph seem like I was flying, turning was very sketchy, and my shifting was horrendous. It was hard at first because I was always tense, but once you get over that learning curve and get more comfortable, riding is the most enjoyable feeling. I'm no pro, but first you should practice and excel at is slow speed maneuvers (off set cone weaves and circles in both directions). I just went over 3000 miles and still looking forward to ride everyday.
@@fnbeansover thanks for that feedback! i feel like the maneuvering of the curves will be my issue as well and just getting used to a bike in general(i dont recall having much practice on any engine reinforced bike not even a dirt bike) so i am nervous about how well i will be. however, your honesty as a beginner helps alot. im happy that you were able to excel in your journey, im so pumped for mine!:)
I got one of these in May, the KRT green and black version so far I've had 110mph out of it but I don't like to push it to much because in the UK 100mph is the speed you lose your license at. It's a great little machine, everyone says it looks smaller than a 400, it feels like you're riding a 125 its so light. I've done 2000 miles on it now and the brakes are starting to get better. The engine braking is really good too, I find that at 90mph when you let go of the throttle you slow down to 70 in just a few seconds. I love this bike.
wait wtf everyone says it looks smaller than a 400? motogp racers say it looks alot bigger than a 400 lmfao, everyone in the US says they would have thought it was a 600 if it didn't say 400 on it
yo loved the video, from central PA definitely should make a trip up and we can ride!
Awesome I try out the 2018 ninja 400 last year it was nice
Beginner bike series sounds cool. I like this video.
It doesn't matter Duke, as long as you continue making videos! Do a closer look of the dash on these bikes too, this one is minimalistic, but a gorgeous black LCD at that.
Thanks for the advice! I will try and do a closer look at the dash/displays on these bikes in the future!
This color combination is really cool!
Wow that's the same bike same color I put on layaway for winter season at the dealer cant wait to pick up
That color scheme is terrific!
How did I end up here when I don’t even ride a bike lol? But nice review! Now I want a bike!
Hey man nice vid. I live in a busy city and am sick of driving cars cause trafic is bad, so I've been looking to get this bike. I think you have persuaded me.
My reaction when i saw the color scheme for the first time was "WOOOOOOO 😯😲😲😲😲" THAT THING IS SOOO OUTSTANDING!
Hahaha I'm glad you like it!
I'm glad it's comfortable and it has a broad torque response. How is the handling? How good is the suspension?
209 kmh(130mph) top speed reached so far. Stock. This bike kicks ass.
Damn, 130mph on that bike seems wild.
@@DukeOfDC I could of gone faster. I had to slow down at 130 only because of traffic. Lol
Thanks brother man I'm taking msf next weekend and plan on choosing this as my first bike!
Awesome man!! Congratulations and have a great time at the class
I’m doing the same thing right now. Just bought my helmet. Icon airflight
love love that bigbike so beautiful, agresive look nice
Anything to look out for when purchasing one?
Cool, I liked it.
Keep up your hard work! I love the part with the sponsorship and you moving your hands and being super excited! Love your work!
Haha I'm glad you enjoyed it! I always seem to speak with my hands when I'm on camera.
DukeOfDC Moving your hands when you talk makes me feel more connect I love it
Beautiful bike just bought the lxr 125cc but upgrading go this in a few months cant wait 😍
That's awesome!
You sold me on the sponsor, thank you !
I like the paint😍
Best color ever seen !!
Whats thé name of that paint job?
I like the black & gold combo!
Is there a specific name for the color?
Frist video i ever seen of yours. Liked n subed never rode yet been looking like this or cbr 500 f or the R im short like 30 in seam but im like 210 any addvice ?
beautiful color on ur 400cc bike👍👍👍👍
You can turn the signal controller loosen it and turn to your likening then tighten
Great videos man! I bought a new ninja 300 ABS back in June, for my first bike. Love it! I do like the 400 but I saved a couple grand by getting a leftover 2017 ninja 300. I'm in Winchester, VA not too far from ya!
That's awesome man! Glad you loved the video, and have fun with that Ninja 300!
Where did you buy the bike? I live near DC, and am going to be looking for a bike after a get past the BRC class in March.
Saw this bike in person today, it looks great!
Wait til you throw a leg over and take it for a spin!
Glad I am not the only who confuses the horn for the blinker lol
That's crazy I drove around trying to learn the Hagerstown area and happened to go on that street but turned around right before I would've seen twig cycles now I gotta stop by there for sure
I did not know you were based out of the Maryland Area pretty cool
“Baby ninja H2 nose” hahah so true 👍🏻
As someone who is short at only 1m7, this is godsend, thanks kawasaki.
How much is fuel conscumption in city riding and also highway km/L?please tell me
Thinking of buying one this weekend to start on. Getting my permit this Friday!
Congratulations!!! Safe riding!
DukeOfDC Thanks!!
Same here good luck to the both of us
Ended up buying a 650R and definitely am glad I went with that and not the 400. MORE POWERRR
@@christiank7837 how much you buy the 650 for? kinda interested in it
Hey Duke! I'm from Silver Spring, MD. Have you ever done meet ups?
Haven't watched the full video yet... but I'm 5'1 female and weigh about 105 lbs, would this be a good bike to have or start? I'm a beginner and love the Kawasaki's! Any advice you guys?
i am an owner of a ninja 400 i think its great i have it in green,i feel very safe when im riding it,i am very happy with it
Thanks bruh, im trying to get my first ever ninja bike!!
Gone are the days of the old kz400 where that was actually a touring/commuter bike and nobody wouldve said its a "beginner bike" back in the day. Although back then people just got on and rode. For half a century Harley called the 883 a beginner bike. We are spoiled for choice today. I always think its sad that great commuter bikes like this will just get thrown aside as "for beginners". But great video! Looks like a beautiful place to ride
I searched this bike because we went into Roxy's in Chambersburg PA and seen this exact bike, Coincidence it's this is the first video i clicked and it's in Hagerstown!
DukeofDC I actually just recently just purchased a 2020 krt ninja 400 $4300 OTD with money down and some gear from Twiggs less than two weeks ago. Its my first bike and i am falling more in love with it everytime i get on her. I will say there is vibration at 65mph in 5th and 6th but if i go up to 70-75mph it goes away. The windscreen does need to be bigger. Im your height so i get buffeted a bit on the highway. Other than that the exhaust isn't bad at all to my ears. It has a good growl is you give it the beans to get on the highway or even when in 6th at 65mph.
Overall i agree its a great bike and really should be almost everyones #1 starting bike if you have no experience at all like i did. That is depending on size and preference to what feels good to you when you sit on a bike.
Kind of cool color scheme, but I like the KRT green one better. Nice video, bike seems to be a lot of fun. Thanks.
Bike was seriously awesome! Color scheme is an easy choice.
why is this video so smooth? whats camara is it?
Sometimes I wish I got this instead my 300 but I'm happy to ride everyday due to it being my only working vehicle.
I loved my Kawasaki , kh 400 and kh500, I preferred them to any 4 stroke I every rode, except for the zxr 400
Fantastic video.
Thank you!!
3 years later I still watch this
4 years later still watching this video
@DukeOfDC I would love to see a review of the ZX-10R if at all possible, or maybe a comparison between the 10R and the 6R? Overall differences other than displacement/top speed.
Excellent video. Liked, subbed, hugged.
Decades ago, I had a Honda 250, then a Kawasaki 650, but left that all behind when I relocated. Here it is, many years later, and since last year I've been enjoying, very much, my Taiwanese "Buddy 50" motor scooter.
And now here you are, tempting me with a cool looking and apparently great performing, bike .
Time to do some shopping, I guess...
Many thanks!
I'm about to take the class - all because I rode my kid's "RoughHouse 50" (same maker as the Buddy) around the neighborhood!
UPDATE: Passed a MSF course, and on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, bought a gorgeous 2018 Kawasaki Ninja 400 ABS KRT Edition. WHOOPEE!!

Hey DukeOfDc! I was wondering if you allow me to use some seconds from this video to my cinematic videos compilation I'm making! You will be credited in the description of the video!
Nice bike I am actually thinking of getting this or the 650 not sure of what one I like best .
Yes difficult choice, i heard they have the same fuel eff. 🤔
Will a steering damper kit take care of the vibration in the handlebars for long-distance highway riding?
No.
Super bro nice
I have that! It is awesome!
Sweet!
Is there any dealer worldwide? Pls
I own one!!! W KRT colour scheme, love the bike, (first bike) had it since Dec. great in the twistys, very comfortable (I’m 5.3). Great for long rides and short stints. Does great doing naughty speeds 😈Highly recommend!
What do you think about it (if you still have it) after three years of you posting the comment?
How do you get it in that color?
I subbed and just saying in Hagerstown is were I got in my very first accident y’all can’t drive😂💀 just kidding but thanks for the review you might see me in one up there soon 🤞🏼🤞🏼
I have a 2018 Yamaha R3 with the blue color without ABS (u can check the the website). I want to know the difference between having ABS and not having ABS. And what ABS does to a motorcycle. Any inputs are accepted, thanks!
Were you going down 340 from hagerstown
Good review brother! Love from India! 🇮🇳 🇮🇳 🇮🇳
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed it!
I get about 160-165 miles per tank before reserve. That's after 1000 miles break in. The engine smooths out after break in oil is out. You can ride it at interstate speeds but it's not ideal. I had a ninja 300 and 250. The 400 is light years ahead of both.
Getting a ninja 300 tommoro in that pearl white :) can't fucking wait.
It was this very video that made me decide to get a ninja 400
Nice!! I hope you’ve been enjoying it??
DukeOfDC it’s been awesome!
I bought a used 3 year old bike and it leak oil causing me to drop after that I only buy new and this is a great value I got my in layaway winter program I. Cant wait till next spring thanks for so many good videos I got the same color and year with abs
