Great choice. I have a '21 Ninja 650 and love it, having upgraded from 20 years of Ninja 250Rs, which were a lot fun most times. This bike can handle a lot more situations, especially going up hills and able to accelerate without any problem, unlike the 250Rs. 0 to 60 on the Ninja 650R is 3.5 seconds average, which is fast. Top speed 131 mph. Kawsaki's are very reliable for me, over 72,000 miles on them combined. Great style to this bike too. Enjoy!
A very honest and bang on review. I used to have Ninja 636’s when I was younger and I couldn’t think of anything worse than riding / commuting on one against the Ninja 650 is a compromise for me. It gets me out, it has some balls if you need it and more importantly is comfortable to ride in my 53rd year. It’s perfect for what I want a bike for. Looks good too 😍
I don't think anyone needs to explain their reason for getting a 650 to be honest. Its really juat a solid street capable bike that any sport rider would want in their garage. They're comfortable, torquey enough to have fun with but not out of control on power, and they're light. Its pretty much the class of bike that you can rest at forever unless you need somrthing for a very specific reason, like a heavier high cc touring bike for more long highway trips or a true supersport for actual track riding. Hope your still enjoying it.

Love from New York City! Looking to get my first bike next summer, I hope riding a bike in NYC isnt too bad lol. I want to see more biking vlogs in NYC, keep em coming!!!
That exhaust makes it sound GREAT! I thinks she's comfortable, fast and affordable enough to be a long term keeper. There are more powerful bikes but the N650 has all the power you NEED I think.
I'm glad you brought up insurance cost. A lot of people don't think about it. I currently have a 2009 concours 14. I do enjoy the bike, but some days the weight of it gets to me. Also, its very hard NOT to do 100mph on that bike. I wouldn't say it is to fast, but the temptation is always there to speed. If something happened to it, I would probably pick up a Ninja 650. All I do is commute, so it would be perfect for me.
@CactusJack252 Yes, the Ninja 650 is very flickable too, and really comfortable and lightweight feeling too, at 419 pounds full fuel for the non-abs bike, 423+ fueled abs version. A lot of fun, and you can tap into all its power. As far as fuel range, your Kawasaki Concours 14 rules with a larger tank, but I get 201 miles literally from a full 4.0 gallon fuel tank with my '21 Ninja 650 with about .2 gallons to spare.
@@musicislife4532 I pay $197/ yr ..but I'm 62 & been riding since 1985 with a clean record. I love my Ninja650 (2018) but I'm gonna add a CBR650 to the garage because I miss that smooth 4 cyl. Ins will go up slightly for a multi vehicle discount
I heard $500 a month and I’m flabbergasted. I have a 221 day bob, costs more than double the ninja 650 (the 650 was my last bike) , most I pay is $70 a month.
Yes. You can handle the power. It simply won’t do anything unless you tell it to do so. Not needing it or wanting it available is one thing. But it will not just take off and do anything unless it is you choosing to go to fast.
My first bike was ever was a new 2007 650R and I had it until last month, so owned it for 15 years. I honestly was kind of sick of it, the style, the sound of it. Last month I traded in the 650 for a cfmoto 700 cl-x sport, a neo-retro cafe-racer style bike with 2 riding modes and cruise control, i know cfmoto needs to prove themselves over the long term but I love the bike so far, plenty of torque and just a great all around feeling.
Fell in love with the 650r as soon as I saw it. First bike was a 06' Ninja 650r, then bought a 13' Ninja 650 a few years later, now sitting comfy on a 17' Ninja 1000, that I've had since 17. Love it
..anyone who says 0-60 in 3.5 secs is slow probably rides a Hayabusa or an H2. What a lot of folks don't realize is that the Ninja 650 is about as fast as a ZX636 to 60mph and faster than a CBR 650, R7, and a lot of other faster bikes to 60mph. But after 2nd gear, you will definitely be looking at their rear tires!
@@PopsRacer61not only acceleration, this engine does 30mph in 6th gear a d accelerates effortless in the same gear till topspeed around 120mph. Now try to do tbat on a 600cc 4cyl bike twice as poweeful as this one...people brag about top power but on the streets, the reality is different.
@@farmoboy83 ..you are absolutely correct my friend ! I listen to a lot of Noobs, Squids and Highway suicide riders talk about how fast bikes are @ top end in a straight line ( WoW ! a 10 yr old can gun it in a straight line ) outside of Moto GP , dirt bike riders, and Gymkhana riders get my utmost respect! I have a 18' Ninja 650 & 23' CBR650. I can tell you my Ninja is far more maneuverable, quicker from stop light to stop light, better gas mileage, cheaper insurance, more comfortable, and just plain fun to ride.. if you get to know that bike like the back of your hand. That's why Kawasaki has made it all these years. It's just a bullet proof bike 🦾
I hope you still like it. I went down the same choices as you but ended up in a different place. I really wanted the Honda CBR650R for the sport look and sound but with a more comfortable riding position. I was doing my shopping in February/March of 2024 so I couldn't find any of the Hondas. I decided to open my search to include the Ninja 650, GSX8R, and eventually the MT-07. I never considered a naked bike because I didn't think I liked the look but I was riding a Chinese Honda Grom Clone at the time which is essentially a naked bike. I sat on all of them and liked the Ninja 650 and MT07 the most for riding position. I then decided to sit on the MT-09 and the tank seemed huge and I was barely able to reach the ground at 5' 7" and 250lbs. Yes, I'm a fat bastard. Ultimately what made my decision was the price. I had watched the videos about how amazing the sound and performance was from the MT-09 and the only thing holding me back was my height. I decided to take the plunge since they dropped the price to make room for the 2024s. I got the MT-09 SP for $9980.00 which was way too good to pass up. Thank god for the riding modes because it has way more power and torque than I'll ever need. It's not the prettiest bike or the easiest one to get on but I can't stop smiling when I ride it.
I'm 228lb and 6ft, and I went with the Ninja 650 for the exact same reason at the time. I have buyers remorse a little after the ZX-4RR got announced and released. But I think im the same..im content with it. If youre a new rider then its fantastic. Fast enough and sporty enough in its riding style for learning on and have a bit of fun.
That 400 might be a tiny bit faster right at the top of the revs, but believe me, it will be absolutely gutless in the midrange where our 650s shine so brightly. I've owned a ninja 600 and a cb650, and the ninja 650 is by far my favourite motor of the 3. Above 100mph the other 2 will get away from the 650r, and I do go over 100 regularly, but I'll take that trade off all day long for the midrange torque of the 650r. All that high rev power is fun if you're riding at the track, or using the road like it's a track, but the midrange on those bikes was garbage - if you tried to exit a corner with less than 8k on the rev counter you just felt like you were waiting for the power. I imagine the 400 would be completely infuriating.
Good video. I have an MT09 currently. Feel like it has too much power to enjoy on the road. Hardly open the throttle enough. Previously had a CBR650f. Was fast but had no character (the engine sound was horrible even though i had a full akra on it). Before that I had a Daytona 675r, cb500x and a ninja 250. The most fun bike of all of them to me was the ninja 250. Now im considering a ninja 650 or 400 that i can thrash on the streets without going stupid speeds. Ninja 650 looks & sounds great!
@@mattinthehat22..that's the reason I'm getting a 2024 CBR650..(the sound) I miss the sound of that smooth 4 cyl! not even gonna put an exhaust on it either. Currently have a (2018) Ninja 650 which I love & plan to keep !
I seriously considered the Ninja 650 before settling with the CBR500R as my final option, I know it's not as fast but there's a bunch of good reasons for it for me that go beyond power. Then the GSX8R happened and I've now had to revise my goals yet again, that thing's damn near perfect, looking to make it happen in 2024. The 650R is very tempting but for all the wrong reaons, high rpm power and incredible soundtrack, especially with a pipe, at almost 50 I can't afford to fall for that. Happy riding.
Noice bike, im a new rider and i decided to get the 2011 ninja650r for my first bike but im loving it so much i might just get the same bike again but newer lol
I came off a 2012 Ninja 650 great bike love it, but wanted more got a 2022 z900rs inline 4 111 HP 98 nm of torque …. I love it the sound the torque and speed and smooth engine upgraded to oem heated grips highly recommend. My insurance cost is about $89 per month full coverage
..I love that bike ! My neighbor bought the red & w/ gold accents anniversary edition last yr I think. I have a 2019 Ninja 650 ! His is the Z900 (not the retro version but same engine) ..We went riding a few times last summer but he couldn't keep up with me on the twisties bcs I been riding since 1985, and he just started a few yrs ago. I've got track experience also. But technically the Z900 is faster and is a superb bike. Excellent quality and just an all around fun bike! "stay safe"💪
Great video by the way! I was going to buy a 2017 Ninja 650... But I wanted something a little older and less money, because this is my first motorcycle... I grew up riding 80cc, 125cc, 250cc and I finally had a Kawasaki KX500 cc dirtbike. It was a major help with transitioning to a street bike. I took the MSF course, got my mc license and hopped on my bike and have been riding trouble free ever since... I went with a rare in the US, and mint condition, 2008 Suzuki GSX650F. I paid under $3,500 for it with 28k miles from a Suzuki dealership. It had one 60 year old previous owner who serviced the bike at that dealer, and it included all the service records and two keys. It's bone stock, and just had a full service, along with new tires on it before I bought it. It's so freaking nice, that I got full coverage insurance on the bike. It's quick, but it's no 10 second bike. It does 0-60 in the mid 3's, but pulls amazing for a 650 up top to 12,500 rpm and ran 11.9 @ 110 and change in the 1/4 mile. It has an 85 HP / 45 LB-FT, 656cc Inline-4, but it's heavy at 531 pounds wet. I have no problem with the weight at 5'10" 195 pounds though. Sorry for the long comment... I'll subscribe after this comment. Safe travels man! -Chris
My ninja 650 can do 0-110 mph in a lil over 12. The gsx650f with 11.9 sec to 0-110, it's got some punch to it. I think I raced one a few months back, it did pull a good bit more than my ninja.
@cloudybiker Nice! Yeah, that would be a close race for sure... So you know what I mean when I say it pulls nicely for a 650. I saw one other test of my bike where it ran a slightly slower 12.05 @ 109.6, I think it was? It could have been worse conditions and / or warmer temps + a different rider etc etc. I ride like you do with the camera off. Just nice cruising with the occasional pull. Anyway, thanks for the reply. I will definitely check out more of your videos.
it feels like the best of both world. you've got the comfort of a cruiser, the get up and look of a sport bike, with the tech of say a ktm for a fraction of the price (including insurance). I am more of a putt around and look at shit kinda rider that wants to take off fast from a red light and drive the speed limit once i get there - far away from the cars you just left in the dust. seems like a killer bike and you cant knock the torque thats for sure.
I bought this exact bike this past weekend. Beautiful bike, rides nice, not stupidly expensive. Bought it mainly for the same reasons as you. Looks, seating is nice and not forward so it kills your wrists. Agree completely with this video :D
Yeah man it's such a nice bike. Loved it for what it was. Unfortunately I had to sell it. Insurance was rising for it. I used to pay 180 at the start then it went up to 230. So was forced to sell. I ended up getting a z900 since it was faster and had cheaper insurance.
@@cloudybiker Thats a beautiful bike but i dont get how its cheaper insurance wise (im not from na). It has alot more power so you'd say more dangerous no?
That’s also why I got it. I ended up with a 2022 Ninja 650. First bike ever. I live more in the country, so I was able to mess around with it and learn, get comfortable on it. I took the MSF course, got my license, and continue to enjoy the ride on this bike. As for the insurance, I’m in Texas, and it costs me 56 a month. I don’t know if that’s great or not, since I’ve never really had one before. Not sure which one I want next. I like the Honda 650, but I’m thinking of a ZX-6R.
Just bought the same bike as you few weeks ago my dude. Gonna be starting a page and channel. Already want the zx6r tho 😂 coming from dirt took no time to want more power
..if you're going from a 400 to the 650, you're gonna love the upgrade! Reminds me a little of the 636 but more comfortable seating, not as fast, waaay cheaper insurance...and at least 55 MPG
@@cloudybiker yes I got a 2020 black 650, and no that probably wasn’t me 😅 definitely stop and say hi next time when I catch you again, I’m always in the bayside/Oakland garden area.
People told me the same thing about my bike because it’s a Yamaha r3 I’m 5’9 140lb so I don’t need anything bigger as my first bike plus insurance is $45 a month and $220 full cover,. It’s fast enough for me not planning to go 100+
I just bought a 2015 version of this bike. I don't have a licence yet..... so I can't ride it yet 😢 but I'm half way though getting my licence. Then finally I can ride. The bike I thought I was gonna buy was a 1000cc repsol fireblade but the insurance for a brand new rider is like 800 a month lol. So I went with the 650
Dude I wanted to go with a zx6r but insurance was 450 a month. I settled for a ninja 650 at 185 a month, recently it spiked to 230 a month. So I'm getting rid of it, swapping it out for a z900 at 75 a month for full coverage. Unfortunately sports bikes are a theft magnet in NYC according to progressive. However, I am thinking of just getting a storage unit and putting my ninja in there with minimum coverage, which is like 30 a month lol.
How’s the bike doing? I’m new here, looking at the bike maybe 3 ish months I’ll buy one? Hopefully ya doing well I’m in Jersey let’s go cruising when the weather gets warmer, hopefully rates for a 20 yo isn’t too bad
I too looked at the cbr650r but insurance was sky high like you said. I went with the z900 and it’s insurance is much cheaper and bike ain’t that much more than the Honda 650 but with much bigger engine. Don’t know why the Honda insurance is so expensive.
I got a 2021 CBR600RR 2 weeks ago and it's amazing. It's very powerful, but only above 9k rpm. Not as uncomfortable as other supersports. Sounds amazing with full CS exhaust + moore mafia tune. Having both the 2021 500r and 600rr in my garage has made my life complete! 😂 I was initially thinking of getting the 650r, but for only $1k more and a bit worse fuel economy, the 600rr was a way better deal!
I have Never sat on a CBR 600rr, def gotta try. I've sat on an r6 and it was a lil cramped for me. I sat on a zx6r and it was alot more comfy, but insurance is high af 😩. I just gotta wait till my insurance rate drops even more at age 30 lol.
Bro I feel the struggle. I'm out here in MD suburbs, 27, never been in an accident, and full coverage for the 600rr still would've been $3000/yr. I have liability for everything. If I crash, I take full responsibility and am willing to accept the consequences lolol
Liability only, for both my 500r and 600rr combined, is only $370/yr. So i can spend more money on gear. Also the 600rr is slightly more comfortable than the zx6r
@@sunrayy95 maaan, I could afford it if I do liability, but I go to some sketchy places sometimes in NYC and I really need that theft insurance 😭. Eventually I'll move somewhere nicer and when I do, I'll do exactly what you did... liability only.
Looking at buying my very first bike. Like ever... Never road on a bike save for a dirtbike when I was much younger, I went to a place in my town the other day and currently considering buying a Ninja 400. They have a really nice one there, but it's a toss up for me between the Yamaha r3 or the Ninja 400. Ninja feels so much better when I sit on it, but the weight is nice on the Yamaha, to me. Again I don't know anything about bikes..
Please help! What is the RPM limiter mean in the settings for these new bikes with screens? could you make a video showing what settings you have on your bike
I went from 185 per month full coverage, the. They increased my rates to 230!!! I sold it after that, and got myself a z900 and insurance was 85 a month for full coverage. Sport bikes are expensive to insure unfortunately. I had an old CBR 500r which was 117 per month full coverage. NYC sucks man.
I also take that same tour looking for “booty”….an u made good choice I had a ton of bikes, last 1 was a 2021….but ninja is better, the 2015 has 72hp (more the the newer ones) and changed the handlebars to the clip ons used in the supersport…..Changed everything
@@Jux1 lmfaooo the booty watching on a bike is good fun haha. just sold my ninja 650 a few hours ago. the insurance was rising - unfortunately i had to let her go. my full coverage insurance jumped from 185 to 230
$500 a month for motorcycle insurance? WTF? My full coverage motorcycle insurance is under $500 a year! I am 44 with a clean license though. Even when I was 19 when I had full coverage on my one year old 1997 Mustang Cobra on Long Island, and my insurance was $400 and change a month! That's insane man!
Yeah it's crazyyy, I have no idea why it's so high. I do live in urban queens area. That may be the reason. Might have to move into long island for better rates.
I left another comment above after my first... I forgot to mention that I now live in Georgia, and the full coverage I have is on a mint condition 2008 GSX650F... I'm sure those two things make a big difference...
Oh I really can't say. My initial thought was yes. But I don't wanna tell people what they can and cannot do. Because you'd be surprised with what you can do. I saw go to a dealership and sit on it and see if it's for you.
Lmao same situation with me, sat on an r6 one day finally and was like... No shot people ride this garbage in daily streets. Not me, fuck that. I didn't know anything about Ninja bikes but pleasantly surprised there's 600s that aren't aggressive death machines
I had a 400 and I'm getting a 650 this week! Progressive Insurance is almost doubling my insurance premium just for jumping to the 650 so ouch there. I'm still a new rider, but if you plan on doing a lot of highway riding, get the 650! The 400 is great but the turbulence at high speeds is annoying and trying to pass on the highway sucks.
I’m not sure about the differences of insurance rates from state to state and /or your particular area-but a quote of $500 per month as you seem to suggest in your video seems bizarre. I was quoted $37.00 per month from my local State Farm agent for a Kawasaki Z900rs Cafe. Your figures make me think there’s something amiss with such figures for a 650. I could see somewhat higher rates for a CBR600RR-but not for the CBR650r because they are two different animals entirely. When you were quoted-did you supply the agent with a VIN to ensure they quoted you accurately? I can see the Kawasaki Ninja 650 being cheaper possibly-but the rates for a CBR650r are less for me than the aforementioned Z900rs.
It's because it's a sports bike. Also NYC insurance cost is very high. Theft is very likely in NYC. It sucks man. Also I switched to a z900 because insurance was cheaper because the z900 isn't a "sports bike"
@@cloudybiker State Farm’s actuaries don’t seem to agree with you about the classification. Kawasaki uses the same platform for their supernaked z900. The rate quote for me for a CBR650R was cheaper $10 per month than the Z900rs Cafe when last I inquired about it. Although Z900rs is slightly detuned from its supernaked brother, it's certainly faster than the CBR650R and more expensive to fix than the CBR650R. These were among the reasons given to me over the phone from my local agent as to the increase in rates. I have a friend who rides a 2023 Suzuki Hyabusa and pays $550 in premiums for the year which is still lower than your apparently quoted rate of $500 per month for a CBR650R you mentioned. Of course, you live in a different area, but that still seems odd wherever the area. Overall, the Ninja 650 is about $1,000 cheaper than the CBR650R. It's also more economical in terms of servicing and fuel economy. On those points if someone is attempting to save money it makes sense. I did however find the seating position to be a little more aggressive than the CBR650R🤷♂️
Your insurance prices over there are next level ridiculous. I'm £95 PER YEAR for full coverage on my er6f. My brother was £1200 per year for a Super Duke R 1290, and thats only so high because hes only had his bike licence for a coue of years. For me on his super duke it would be arounf £400 per year.
Look my boi you should have bought the bike you wanted…but you could have put one of your parents on your policy or a older person on your insurance policy….I just bought a mt07 first bike I had and progressive quoted me 700 a month when I put my aunt on their it dropped down to 124 a month I live in Florida by the way so to put you up on game do that next time my boi
Because... Ninja 650 0-110mph 12 seconds vs ninja 400 0-110mph in 17 seconds. Ninja 650 0-120mph is 15 seconds. Ninja 400 tops out at 110mph. While the ninja 650 can reach 130mph.
Can anyone confirm he is telling the truth about the insurance cost. That is so ridiculous I don’t believe it. He must have points on his license or something.
3:46 $450-500 i was yeah that aint bad, mines $660 then as you continue, you say per month WTF my $660 ( yes that is for full coverage ) is for the year. i wouldnt be riding if the price was that ridiculous here

I have a 2022 Ninja 650 and I love it. About to take it on my first long distance road trip.
Yesss I love taking it for a long ride like that
I got a 23 Z900. Took it on a 1k mile trip right after break in. Bought a new seat right when i got back. That thing is perfect now.
Fell in love with the 650r as soon as I saw it. First bike was a 06' Ninja 650r, then bought a 13' Ninja 650 a few years later, now sitting comfy on a 17' Ninja 1000, that I've had since 17. Love it
Calling a 3.5 second 0-60 a slow bike is peak American haha
..anyone who says 0-60 in 3.5 secs is slow probably rides a Hayabusa or an H2.
Congratulations on your new bike enjoy it 👍
Thank you thank you!

That's fucking awesome! Hell yeah my guy! Ride safe
Got a 2022 model ..love it
I hope you still like it.
One of us needs our hearing checked. I love the sound of my '18 CBR650f with a full akra.
Noice bike, im a new rider and i decided to get the 2011 ninja650r for my first bike but im loving it so much i might just get the same bike again but newer lol

definitely ninja 650 my next bike 🤟
I also have the same riding style as you, and it’s why I sold my fz07, too unrefined and not good for cruising long rides.
Now I want a 650, thanks
Precisely! Ninja 650 is a baby sports tourer 💚
Nice video. Might be my next bike in a few years 😎
Thanks for watching

Thanks for watching! I'm glad you like it. Yes older will def save you on the insurance too. And can't go wrong with a gsx650f. Powaaa baby. Lol
My ninja 650 can do 0-110 mph in a lil over 12. The gsx650f with 11.9 sec to 0-110, it's got some punch to it. I think I raced one a few months back, it did pull a good bit more than my ninja.
@cloudybiker
Nice!
@@StormAutoAdventures appreciate that man, thanks for watching! Hope you enjoy! Haha. Safe riding as well 😄

it feels like the best of both world. you've got the comfort of a cruiser, the get up and look of a sport bike, with the tech of say a ktm for a fraction of the price (including insurance). I am more of a putt around and look at shit kinda rider that wants to take off fast from a red light and drive the speed limit once i get there - far away from the cars you just left in the dust. seems like a killer bike and you cant knock the torque thats for sure.
Well said 👌
I bought this exact bike this past weekend.

I'm still a new rider, but if you plan on doing a lot of highway riding, get the 650! The 400 is great but the turbulence at high speeds is annoying and trying to pass on the highway sucks.
just a question why you in 5th gear doing 23 ahaha
