North Dakota State QB Trey Lance
Freshman 6’3 221 lbs
Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert & Jordan Love were all drafted in the 1st round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Next year’s draft might have an even better quarterback class. Trevor Lawrence is viewed as the top overall player while Justin Fields is right behind him. NDSU QB Trey Lance has a chance to join them in the 1st round. As a redshirt Freshman, Lance had one of the most impressive seasons in the history of college football. Not even 1st overall pick Joe Burrow did what he did. Lance threw for 2,786 yards & 28 TDs with ZERO interceptions while also running for 1,100 yards & 14 TDs. If you’ve never heard of Trey Lance by now, expect to hear all about him next season. He could be the best QB prospect since Patrick Mahomes.

Brock Donlan - This is college, he is in a lower part of college football though. That’s why people don’t acknowledge him, but I think he would be great at a higher level of college football.
Hes got NFL caliber arm strength and he goes through his progressions, looks off safeties.. this kid gonna be a steal.
He's projected top 15 pick
His arm strength is decent. Its his accuracy, quick release and ability to make a play with his feet that makes him great. He's also doing this in a great offensive system. A lot of his touchdowns were to wide open targets and you rarely see him fit the ball into tight coverage. But that's not saying that he can't.
He won’t be a steal he’s going top 5 as long as he keeps progressing
I don't see him consistently going through his progression. Not in this video at least. He can certainly develope it, but he stares down a lot in this video and gets bailed out by his athleticism. Otherwise he looks NFL ready.
Mike B there was enough slow mo’s for you to see him go through reads.. but I also saw him stare down a few guys, and he left some air under a few throws as well. At the same time he showed flashes of real arm talent.

0:49 - here he is looking off the short crossing route before throwing a dime deep.
1:16 - You get to literally watch him make a read and watch him quickly react and throw another dime
2:04 - Proof is in the pudding here...makes a couple miss while quickly readdressing the pocket and escaping while looking downfield
4:16 - Hits secondary target with nice ball placement while scrambling right with defender in his face
5:29 - Looks like TE Seam is his 3rd read - either that or he was just holding the safety with his eyes...which is impossible if you "lock into the primary target"
6:09 - Please watch this - the safety comes up and he's going to glance at him before making the decision to throw the wheel.
7:54 - Selling PA again, opening up with his eyes looking right probably keeping the safety before throwing a bomb to the opposite side.
8:04 - 2nd option while running away from 2 defenders
8:22 - Watch him hold #20 to the wide side of the field before throwing opposite again
8:50 - This play was pretty bad by the defense - but only worked because he was able to look off his primary
9:04 - This is a goody, look like a delayed DB blitz which Lance picks up and thinks about throwing that direction - pulls down and makes a great play
9:38 - Once again he playactions and sets up one way - throwing deep the other direction.

He scored 42 total TDs without throwing a pick. His lone blemish was one lost fumble. The Bison finished the season with a perfect (16-0) record winning its 8th Championship in nine years. With Trevor Lawrence & Justin Fields getting most of the attention early in the draft process, don’t be surprised if Lance starts to get more hype within a year from now.

I live in Fargo and have gone to alot of NDSU games, I was at his 1st start game, against Butler. Walking in I heard that Lance was starting, I wondered, "Why are they starting a redshirt freshmen at QB when they have a transfer from Iowa State who could be starting instead and has more experience then Lance does". After seeing him pass or run for 5 touchdowns, I knew why hw was starting. And I was at the National Championship Game that NDSU won as well. I wasn't at the game they had in the Fall, no fans were. He has been flat out amazing. The 9er fans will love him.
This kid is going to be very very special in the league. Best QB in the draft in my opinion

He isn't even close to being worth a 1st round pick IMO. He doesn't go through his progressions until 5 seconds later, he stares down his primary target, doesn't read defenses well, and really doesn't jump off the camera to me but that's subjective. He'll be RGIII IMO

Watched all his games and has great arm strength, very accurate and great athleticism. He also does a great job seeing the field and why no interceptions. He is no doubt going to be in the NFL and in many recent mock drafts a 1st rounder and I think going to be a very solid QB

NDSU's real problem is stadium size. If they went to a major conference like the big 10, they would have to upgrade that dome, which currently seats less than 20k.

Ice Out You do realize Carson Wentz played at the same schools and he almost won MVP had he stayed healthy. When he’s healthy he’s a top 5 top 7 Qb in the league and he didn’t play against SEC or Big 10 schools. When judging QBs you want to look at their accuracy, anticipation, pocket presence, how they read defenses and mental toughness when they’re faced with adversity. This kid has almost all of those qualities plus a powerful arm and big body. Anyone who watches football regularly wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up in the NFL or even in the first round.

You haven’t even seen Goff play a single snap for Lions yet, so you can’t assume that he’ll hold a bottom top 10 roster back. What good does it a do drafting a quarterback, if you have almost nothing to support him. The 2022 NFL quarterback draft class is loaded. So the best thing to do is wait to see what Goff can do first, and focusing on building the team before you draft another quarterback, who has barely no help and ends up not developing correctly.

Needs a year with QB coach like P. Mahomes had. But is very talented. I give a 2nd Rd grade with 1st Rd talent.
