- LOUD FANS? Re Apply Thermal Paste and Thermal Pads to a Launch PS4 PRO
I am not a professional. Just self taught through CZcams videos. I just wanted to show how I did it and the problems I had.
In the end, it did quiet down the fans and I am happy I did it.
There is a bit of lighting issues in this video due to the fact I relied on the sun outside coming through my window.
Thank you for watching

Very good walk through! I think I watched 20 times over getting myself prepped. Knocked it out and it is now whisper quiet. Before 5-10 mins on the title screen of god of war and the fan would push full blast. After 45 mins, just a whisper. Started playing and it is still whisper!!! Yay 😀
Still rocking it library style?
@@jeremygalloway1348
Absolutely. I don’t use it has often as I used too due to upgrading to PC and PS5 but it’s still running like a champ. 👍
Just got through installing the pads and thermal paste with your tutorial. Big help, thanks!
Best video on CZcams on this subject 👌🏻 thanks for sharing
Thank you, gone from a jet engine to a mild hum
Big help i was lost for a bit but your video is very well detailed 👌 nice job
Awesome tutorial just replaced all the pads & paste, the ram & cpu must have starting to overheat seriously and burn at some point as it had black marks on it the metal casing covers above the cpu & ram areas, the fan was sounding like a jet engine literally as soon as I started it up, the case was red hot within minutes. So started looking for fix videos found this and so decided to try this!! and I swear to god its now completely cool & silent.. I replaced the pads on the ram and the other 6 smaller ones, as well as paste on the cpu... WOW night & day it hasn't made any noise at all yet so thank you for saving my ps4 its better than it was when I got it seriously. I will be doing this every year now lol
How many pads do you need? I can find only 20 mm x 60 mm x 1 mm thick pads in 5 pieces per pack. How many packs do I need?
It is a very good guide, helped me a lot while replacing my PS4 thermal paste and pads. There is only one thing that I would like to contribute to this video guide, you don't have to remove the power supply socket from mainboard with a plier. You can pull up power supply side connector gently. Disconnect the connector much easier in this way and was no need to find a plier. Just gave extra attention to power cable doesn't fold while putting backing in the mainboard again. Thanks for the video.
Definitely! I was following some other person's guide - they said to use mini pliers. Needless to say I almost broke the connector - it was infinitely easier and safer to just gently, but firmly pull it out by hand.
Did the same, man that cable is stupid secure to the board, disconnecting from the power supply itself is much easier.
Great video man. Much appreciated.
Thank you for clearing that up about thermal pads. Wasn't sure if they needed replacing to run cooler. I changed thermal paste, it didn't make the machine cooler, but it's quiet.
I'm glad it helped.
Have you heard of putting a tp on the ic chip? I watched a video where someone did that. Said it would stop overheating of HDMI port.
@@Jacob-hl3gt I really hope you're joking... sure it'd be minty cool
@@phifediggy9659 you don't think it'll work? Why?
PS4 Pro is hell hot while working, no matter how often you change the paste hehe But if you play rather often as i do, you need to change termal pads at least 1 time per year, if you check you old ones they are very soft, not as they should be my friend.
Thank you for this video it very helpful
Yep, can confirm this works. PS4 shutdown last week due to overheating. Bought some pads and paste from Amazon approx £15 and followed the guide. I’ve had a solid afternoon gaming and can hardly hear the fan running now. Many thanks.
It helped me too.. Thanks alot. No headphones anymore 💪 Just be sure u use a good thermal paste. First time used cheep one, it even become louder.. Then i bought a arctic one and it work as new ps4! THANK YOU DUDE!
If you really need to fix things, just a small tip to you - look for russian repair videos. People here are very poor and they need to repair stuff, coz they can't afford to buy new. So you may find 1000s of videos about rapairing anything, even the boat engines hehe
@@SingTodayi Repairing stuff should be a normal thing regardless if one is poor or not. It's always a good thing to know how to fix something too.
And thats how a proper walk through should be....thanks alot bro
Hey hey cool video, just one thing I noticed you installed the X looking part upside down, not a huge problem but may want to get that flipped :)
Nice! Thank you 👍
Hi. I seen that u used 1mm thermal pads. It has to be 1mm or i can buy thicker like 1.5mm ? Thank you.
I have only tharmal paste, I lost one of the pads during opening it up. May i apply thermal paste instead of pads?
if the thermal pads are so degraded that they're coming off in pieces/leaving residue do you need to clean the spots where you'll put their replacements (i'm imagining w/rubbing alcohol?)
hey just wondering what size is your thermal pad?
What model is this? the internals on my 7216 is different, atleast where all those screws are placed.
What should be the thickness of the thermal pad in mm?
Thermal grizzly krynault extreme Works ok? 14.8w/mk
What is the diference between 2.0 w/mk thermal and 6.0 w/mk i remember i used 0.5 mm but 6.0 w/mk and it was better than 2.0 w/mk 1mm it didnt work at all 👎
Holy fuck thank you for this guide sir. I just performed the same task on my PS4 Pro watching you on my tv and my PS4 on the floor with tools. I can barely hear my fan now!
Is it still running quiet?
@@marcobarrientos4953 Yeah. Still more quiet than before the repaste when pushing the console hard with graphically intensive games.
@@cemsengul16 That's awesome! I took mine apart completely but failed to consider thermal paste and pads until it was sealed up. Never opened it before, covered in dust. It seems to be working fine now. Although, I now feel the need to reapply those things after having seen them (mostly dry/not symmetrical). Haven't put it under heavy load yet.
@@cemsengul16 What did you use mAn, like specifically? - If you don't mind me asking.
@@marcobarrientos4953 I don't mind you asking. I used an Ifixit Mako Set I bought from Microcenter and I used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut and Thermal Grizzly Minus Pad 8 for the pads. I am amazed at how easy Sony consoles are to open. I have never opened any console before but I gained confidence after not destroying my PS4 Pro that I repasted my PS3 Slim also and helped a friend repaste his fat PS3.
When disconnecting the connector from the motherboard what I like to do is hold the connector down with a small tool like a flathead screwdriver and use pliers to pull out the wire from the connector. Although the connectors are strong enough to not be pulled out really easily you can rip it out accidentally. So just be careful with it and you’ll be alright :)
I have repasted mine a few times. Going to replace the pads for the first time and paste today again after 6 months. 4years on the pro almost. Added a mx500 ssd to beef it up.
dude shouldnt this be done yearly at most? every 6 months doesnt seem like its working rlly well
@@noelyong6843 I just repaste whenever the console says it's too hot to load a game. Some times repaste, sometimes, the thermal pads would have fallen off (I move the console around a lot). Either way I open it roughly twice a year.
"Screw the clamp on evenly" proceeds to tighten clockwise instead of crossover...
sir can you please tell me the size of the thermal pad or a product link of the thermal pad you have used because i will change thermal pads of my ps4 pro but i’m confused between the size
So far I’ve seen 1.0mm thick on another video tho what did you find out Solomon
Awesome tutorial thanks! For the LAUCH PS4 PRO I WOULD SUGGEST using Artic MX-6 to keep it even quieter. I was using Grizzly. UNTIL! I was playing last of us p2 and God of War, and God of War ragnarok. It was getting really loud even after the repaste. Tried to repaste it using Grizzly but I had the same result. USED MX-6. It worked perfectly.
IT IS VERY NEEDED to change the thermal pads too. HIGHLY RECOMENDED!
Mx6 is high quality got some arctic thermal pads as well and my Spider-Man ps4 is silent as my ps5
@@EternalNightingale GREAT!
Hi may I know the thermal pads is 1 mm or 2 mm can you tell me plzzzz
1 mm is good enough
ps4 pro thermal pads thickness please??
can you tell me which dimension is used for the thermal pad specifically thickness or height if you understand me, thank you
1mm is recommended 👍
What is the best size for thermal pads, 1.0mm or 1.5mm on ps4pro?
1mm does the job, but for 6 chips near APU I suspect 1.5mm instead of 1mm. I did use 1mm and it does the job so far.
I changed the paste on my pro the 2nd day it released with Arctic silver 5 immediately was way better than factory but I have never changed the thermal pads coming up on like 4 year now going to tear it down agin to check up on it going to change the paste to something els this time Mabye mx4 heard good things can’t find any legit thermal grizzly do you think changing the pads makes any difference because if it does I will do it
Have you ever heard of punctuation? I put MX4 on my Pro and it worked only for a month.... Better try something else. Imma try new pads as well.
Does the termal pads replacement make a big difference? I just replaced the termal paste on mine and no difference on noise
for the best result i think you should change the fan, the pads and the thermal paste
you can find replacement brand new original fans on aliexpress for pretty cheap prices, obviously the shipping times are around 1 month, you can find them on amazon too but prices are almost double
I found it much easier removing the connector on the battery rather than the pcb
Are the thermal pads adhesive?
yep they should be lol
I’m about to do this to mine I’m gonna use some thermal grizzly kryonaut or Kingpin KPX and some K5 Pro to replace my thermal pads it’s better than thermal pads and last almost forever according to the company
Would rubbing alcohol work as a substitute for getting rid of the old thermal paste?
Yes it is perfectly fine. I just replaced the thermal paste on my PS4 slim and I used alcohol which is originally what you're supposed to use. These CZcamsrs just try to go a different route to make themselves seem unique or different. Don't worry about using any other kinds of solutions use alcohol trust me anybody that knows how to disassemble computers and replace thermal paste will always tell you to use alcohol
Is that 1.0mm or 1.5mm thermal pads?
1.0mm pads
Hi. What if my ps is missing one thermal pad in RAM? Can it burn out?
It’ll just overheat & with electronics heat is one of the negative things that cause it to deteriorate faster than it would at a recommended operational temperature. It shouldn’t break it instantly because if it gets too hot it should shutdown instead of burn up but it will fail faster over time if left to overheat constantly.
I might be late, but if you loose one of the pads it can seriously damage the internal hardware.
Very good videos. But there are to clean I have appreciate.
Your accent is tripping me out. It honestly sounds like a non-native English speaker accent because of how strong it is.
thermal grizzly paste is good, how the performance now?
Kryonaut does a good job for me. I tried KPX but I returned back to Kyro
What about Arctic MX4 thermal paste?
what is the thickness of the thermal pads?
ive read in many comments that it sud be 1mm the thickness. good luck. i think its better to spread the thermal paste out evenly rather than just putting a blob on.
What thickess are the thermal pads??
1mm
The launch model is 70 not 71
*You took it too far. I have the same PS4 PRO and I took the top lid off, cleaned the dist out of the grills on the sides, and the underneath of the lid. Then I meticulously cleaned the dust off the blower fan. Done. Quiet as could be.*
Is it okay to just replace the Thermal paste not the pads
It's ok as long as the original pad it's still there and not cracking
Is the T8 Torx and the TR8 Torx the same thing?
I needed to replace my thermal paste and pads and Sony is a b*tch. One of the 5 screws for the power was made out of plastic. So as I tried turning it, it started to bend and wouldn't come out...
What a difference
It’s also important to open your power supply and clean it from dust
That's definitely not enough termo paste on the chip. You need to cover the entire chip with it.
this was horrifying
You guys always overdo everything because of the thermal pads are still there you do not need to replace them. If they are there in tact you don't need to replace thermal pads once again total Overreach
He mentioned that several times in the video, maybe you should have listened instead of complaining over people's personal choices.
