I liked how Chappelle used it for his police ko's, "open n shut case Johnson", and as a chicken drumstick too
Chappelle abuses microphones you monster
@@boogaloog211 haha seriously. not that he can't afford it, but how many $500 microphones has he dropped in his time at the end of a joke or the end of a show?
I always hated how chappelle just does the little rap on the head to represent that though lol.
Chappelle treats the mic how bugs bunny treats a prop or a carrot
The helicopter bit is so perfectly performed. First time I saw it I died laughing, then I had to re-watch it over and over to truly appreciate all the talent and work behind it. That whole special is amazing, but that bit alone is something special.
Love when Bill does this trick. He does it on the podcast all the time. And yes, the helicopter bit is probably my favorite joke of his lol.
I am Jacks sense of agreement.
The helicopter bit is great from start to finish
Think of how lesser funny the 'LADYYY' gag would be if he didn't step away from the mic.
Only man who can not only make me want to listen to an ad, but actually makes me laugh all the same. "It's fucking Zip..................................."
(In the distance) "Recrooootah!"
zip.................
*REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECRUITER*
I think "I'm sorry you feel that way" is Burr's finest work yet.
I love all his specials, but that's my favourite.
100% yes
yeah. I love all his works but that special was great.
I hate all his specials, but that’s my least favourite
@@jgray1831 look up "Bill Burr Amazon and Uber", it might help you understand his comedic angle
I thought the video would mention his thing where he rests one arm on the microphone stand and stares down the audience after he says something particularly offensive 😂😂
I love the arm resting on the mic stand.
@@devenscience8894 I always wonders if it’s comfortable 😂
@@hunterg1036 I gotta think no, but if your forearm is skinny enough that it could be?
I agree. Even during casual conversation, it shows he is relaxed and in charge.
U kno its on the way or already happened lol a sure tell
I know it's more of a prop but when Louis CK holds up his dead baby on the airplane, is probably one of the greatest mic jokes ever
You absolutely right.
link?
@@Willy-cx7py czcams.com/video/8SCkzjgSng0/video.html almost 4min in.
@@superdavelane4 thanks man that was hilarious
I agree
Everyone seems to forget... Burr is also a musician. It's called mic technique, and anyone that truly cares about an audio medium will learn, and implement, good technique
He is also a helicopter pilot.
didn’t he pick up the drums at like 50 tho?
@@DrSpaceman69 He used to play with his brothers when they were kids. There were probably gaps but it's def not a new thing
I think the most important thing he does is lean on the mic stand. Anyone who knows Bill knows it wouldn't be wise to heckle him, but still there might be some who would dare to try...or some who may not feel the need to pay attention. When he leans on the mic stand, it's both casual and commanding. He shows he is at home on stage and relaxed....and in charge. He is not coming to visit us.... he allowed us to come visit him.
😂wow. Yeah there’s no mistake, BB is Very smart and very aware of his surroundings and knows how to maintain control of his environment
God, the leaving the faith moment in "I'm Sorry You Feel That Way" is one of the funniest things I think he's ever done. The whole special too, but that moment is definitely a standout. Great video on how he uses the mic in his skits!
I think it's one of the gratest monets in comedy ever)
“And on the third day he rose again in fulfillment of the scriptures....”
That helicopter joke is one of his finest and the microphone work totally makes it. I'm glad someone took the time to break it down and appreciate it. Great video!
That first 10 seconds is one of my favourite bits that Bill has done because of the way he tapped the mic, it was genius.
Fucking.... brilliant.
I remember a surreal feeling the first time I saw the helicopter bit. Blew me away. Cannot believe how well you've laid out precisely why. Hope no one watches this before seeing that though. That would be a tragedy.
Love this video. Thanks for making and sharing this. This special has to be Bill at his best. It's compelling from beginning to the end. The use of the mic stood out to me and it's interesting to see what that adds to his jokes. I actually got emotional at the letting go of the religion/mic part because it's such a well crafted joke.
He's had one of the longest running podcasts, just him and the mic.
While I agree that Burr uses the mic in a really interesting way, I think there's a different dimension you neglected -- verisimilitude. By moving the mic away from his mouth like he did in when he said 'go play with your brother,' what he does is imply walking away without actually having to do it. It's the same thing with the culling speech and the line 'let me finish.' Were something like that to actually happen, the politician would be arguing with people trying to remove him from the stage, so naturally he would not speak clearly into the mic. The result is that Burr makes the audience feel as though there is more going on than one man standing on stage simply addressing them. He effortlessly conjures an image of an annoyed father walking away from his children, or an embattled, radical politician trying to stay on stage despite the protests of others around him in a way that wouldn't really work if he just spoke into the microphone.
Great to see this back. Your channel is fantastic. Hope there's more on the way
Love your channel man, keep it up. You’re doing really excellent work
I love the analysis showing how something that seems so effortless is really intricate and thought out.
I love these videos you do - exploring and appreciating these subtle, yet powerful, moves that show what a deep art stand up can be when done by a master.
I'm keenly aware of his mic technique, he really is one of the best.
loved the video and your background music choices. Subbed!
Your editing is outstanding, you have such attention to detail. I subscribed
Dude, you are one my new favorite video essayist. Keep up the good work!
I'm binging these. there are so many breakdowns of music in this sort of way, it's super refreshing to have a similar approach to comedy, which I don't think get's analyzed enough (you know, unless it's over analyzed and killed instead) keep it up!
Dud all your videos are so goooood! Keep up the awesome work
This is a really cool channel i love bill burrs use of the mic. I have read in stewart lees books with his set scripts he constantly experiments with the mic and the sound too. Sometimes even stage position leaving the mic on stage shouting across the building from the balconies.
His helicopter pilot bit is the funniest shit ever
Dude these are so good. Keep it up
Omg!!! I am mesmerized by your explanations!
It’s amazing how close your voice sounds a text to speech voice, great video
i love the way he uses the mic.
Holy shit. Great video and analysis! Can’t believe there’s more reasons to love this special!
GREAT JOB, will like all your video's. Keep it up.
I love this analysis and some of the other videos you have done. You seemed to suggest at the end that Burr's material wouldn't work as well without a microphone, which may actually be true, but makes it seem like he needs the mic to be funny, when I'm sure we all agree he would still be very funny without using the mic the way he does. Great video, that helicopter bit is so good!
Yooo I love this video! Thanks for the analysis! Grateful. So fun, gonna try some fun mic technique and space work tonight
This is my new favorite channel.
This was so well done
Great analysis!
Thanks!
The master of mic plays, physicallity and exploiting all that could be done comedically on stage is Hicks. Bill Hicks.
Dude, when he's blowing Satan in the Relentless special, I don't think I've laughed harder
@@XBL4K3X haha. He blows Satan in all his fucking specials. haha.
Really great material, i love the explanation and the thoroughness of the video. If I may add, the only thing that made me slightly inconvenient was that the material could be a little more compact, so it keeps the attention going. All in all, an excellent video! Keep up the good work!
Definitely noted. Will do my best to keep things more compact in the future. Thanks for the feedback :)
Great video, big fan of bill for all the reasons mentioned above and now a fan of your channel!
Great analysis! Looking forward to the Bill Burr's endings analysis ;)
Congrats on a great channel. I'm a big fan.
Brilliant analysis!
That was awesome. Thank you. It’s been a while since I’ve seen “I’m sorry you feel that way way”. I’m gonna have to watch that whole special again and really study the way. Bill moves on stage and works the microphone.
That special is the greatest of all time in my opinion, and the bit about the duck dynasty guy is probably the greatest piece of comedy I’ve seen
He makes it looks easy. Thanks man
Why do I like this video so much? cheers mate! :D
Yenno when someone makes a video on something you've been thinking about for yours - this is it! I am both jealous and impressed. Good work!
Did you repost this? I love your videos. Thank you for posting!
The best compliment I can give you is this is the comedy version of " Every Frame a Painting".
Im so happy in found this channel
*reading the title*
“oh he’s gonna talk about the helicopter bit!”
I don't know if anyone's mentioned it already, but Alex Horne's early standup features lots of BRILLIANT effects with the microphone too.
I watched that special when it first came out and I thought that helicopter bit was pure genius.
Wow, proof Burr is legit the GREATEST.
That helicopter bit is genius
Bill uses the mic to give depth when he's screaming at someone across the room. Sounds like my neighbors fighting.
His letting go of religion punchline with the mic drifting away from him is genius. Definitely my favorite special of his
Great video, Burr is the best I've seen doing characters in Stand~Up since Eddie Murphys cook~out bit in Delerious.
Bill Burr uses the mic in a way like Buster Keaton uses a movie camera.
I honestly thought I was the only person who thought about this factor with Bill Burr. I’m always entertained by his work with the mic. His helicopter story is an obvious example. But even his story about how he would raise his kid using the game of catch as a distraction was a very simple way of using / not using the mic to free up his hands to emphasize his playing of catch with his kid.
Bill’s the man.
Holy shit the shade you threw... I bet if 'ol Billy saw this he'd be cracking up.
good job making these videos mate, keep it up!
you'll pop off soon, great content
i played with mike when i was 8 he was 40 i loved it and i want another mike in my life btw loved the vid!
Another example of great mic movement is Eddie Murphy's Raw.
Great call.
Okay I love your inclusion of non-American comedians, it's not every day I hear someone referencing Noel Fielding xx
@Arch5tanton alright sweetheart
@@janpavel1441 Alright, MIL
Bruh, your attention to detail, and summarization is amazing. Also your music is fucking amazing
Joe Rogan and Bill Hicks were my first exposure to playing with the mic this way. Cool content man.
Awesome soundtrack bud yes I noticed
Rumor has it Bill Burr's Mic is getting its own comedy special!
genius breakdown
RJD2- Ghoswriter, excellent taste in music!
Fun seeing the helicopter bit with both roles edited together chronologically
Love for RJD2
👌🏽
holy shit did not notice that but man are you right, he is a master of the mic.
Lee evans had some amazing mic bits, proper dedicated mini shows with them
He’s genius. And so are you.
Arj Barker is also a great exponent of playing with microphone dynamics.
He's one of my favorite comedians. He's got some insanely creative and funny bits. The walking shoes, wristwatch, WWII "stimulation" game that takes place in 1940ish, the mattress shopping, "cruelty-free soap, and so many more. Awesome in The Great Debates and Thank God You're Here.
I used to play Bill's helicopter routine for my senior Drama students to study Drama Techniques and story structure.
This video should have a million views at least
high quality content, noice
Is this the Binging with Babish background music? Lmaoo
Saying that some of bill burr's jokes wouldnt work if he didnt have a microphone is kind of funny, many comedians ha e made that point, theres a reason they gave me the microphone and sit you in the audience, the differnce between a lunatic grandpa ranting about immigrants and health care and some politicians is the microphone, and the audience and platform. But bill bur is a showman, he's got a sense of humor that hits home to alot of us.
I have been saying it since 2008, Bill Burr is the greatest comedian living today.
Lee Evans is an expert at using the mic
I always thought Arj Barker had great mic control in his stand up. Underrated.
This was absolutely his best special, will go down in history alongside Eddie Murphy’s Delirious
This is awesome dude, I hate to be that guy but do you have any plans in covering John Mulaney? From a new subscriber.
RJD2, nice
Dave Chappelle and Bill Burr are the kings of mic.
Can someone please tell me where to find the first clip of bill burr making that beat
Great observation, but I was 100% sure you'd include Bill Hicks with his Satan impersonation - epic mic use!
Why? 2.4k views? Really? This video is fucking amazing. Criminally underrated.
I thought this was gonna be another comedian mocking Bill Burr.
Never did I expect a seriously thought out commentary on comedic technique involving a microphone.
You've earned yourself a new subscriber, buddy.
You should have given more examples, though I guess this was just about Burr.
How about a similar video or series about how other comedians utilize the microphone as not only a prop but also as a way to convey perspective, or maybe a single video encompassing the subject in general?
Who is mocking Bill Burr? He is universally appreciated
@@Jahu-qs2us I don't know. That's why I was confused.
The GOAT.
Fluffy does it pretty well with his sounds too
3rd time youve posted this i think, I hope its not struck again :)
Cheers my friend. I re-edited this time for my own amusement haha
@3:30 cameo from Binging with Babish
Will we be getting a Patton Oswald based video?
