Can Comedy Be Funny Anymore? | Andrew Schulz | TEDxColumbusCircle

- For many comics, the job is to be a bit shocking, a bit provocative, and test a few social norms just to get a laugh. But in a culture where norms are being blown to bits and everyday life is a provocation, what’s a comic to do? This thoughtful and honest talk by writer, actor, and comedian Andrew Schulz reveals the challenges of getting an audience to laugh at a time when not much shocks anyone anymore.
TEDxColumbusCircle (www.tedxcolumbuscircle.com) was produced by a team from Manhattan Productions (www.manhattanproductions.com), Womenkind (www.womenkind.net), Gender Fair (www.genderfair.com), and reimagine.world. Andrew Schulz is an American comedian known for his work on Guy Code, The Brilliant Idiots podcast and the Amazon original series Sneaky Pete. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
The hardest part of the Ted talk for Andrew was not roasting the front row.
Kevin Ortiz LMAOOO but forreal he was probably dying
HAHAHAHAHA 😂😂😂
Nailed it big time!🤣🤣
You can see he got eyes on the front rows. But sadly, this one is not a stand up. 😂
Oh so you the comedian now huh?
He is holding back his speculations about the front rows ethnicities
@RIC REMIXX what's your issue with caucasians why can't people just be people smh
They should of placed one person from each race in the front. I think it would of actually made this sweat for the first time in his life.

Andrew Schulz is one of the last people I'd imagine doing a TED talk.
At this point I would not be surprised to see he's done anything
Ive been watching TED talks for a few months and I find a lot of speakers that I would’ve never imagined speaking to these crowds. I get pretty excited but it sucks most are just 10 min videos.
But im glad he did because I swear this man is a genius
Yet here we are! Thanks, internet. 😀
@@marcosvega3519 that's because there's a difference between TED and TEDx. Andrew is doing TEDx, aka anyone can do it.
Man turned a TEDTalk into a standup set, what a legend.
Yeah and he tried not to, that's the crazy part... he's funny when he's not
It still makes sense because Ted stands for Technology Entertainment Design... he used the Entertainment section
He knew how to hack it
And, unbelievably it got 1.5k dislikes, the irony is funny as well

All censorship is toxic

@Lillel even germany allows mein kampf to be sold in bookstores, banning thoughts rather than debating them can only lead to regression.
CrzyLion my friend from Germany said it was banned there? So I urged him to read it while we were in Canada. Not sure if that’s true though. But regardless, in the case of censorship, that one is probably justified.
Andrew is a lot sharper than he lets on
I’ve been watching a lot of his stuff recently and i noticed that too. He knows so much about the places he goes and makes jokes that people in that area can relate to even though he’s not from there
He's extremely intelligent. if you watch his debates you would see it.
Comedians are always sharper than they let on.
The dumbest people are those who constantly remind you of how smart they are.

TEDx* talk... Not exactly a high bar to clear lol.
Anyone is intelligent to give a TEDx talk. Don't forget the X. Andrew is just a boring narcissist that gets laughs for slow people by hitting his knee and pretending to crack up at the material he's told thousands of times already. His podcast is insufferable. He laughs so hard it's like he's trying to clear his throat. He slaps his knee violently and he's always yelling. I have no doubt that he would do well in most comedy clubs. He's figured out how to make people laugh even at his bad jokes, so he's clearly very skilled. But he's truly skilled as a social media marketer. He convinced hundreds of thousands of preteens and simple adults to think he is way better than he is by trying to sell the idea that he's "dangerous." He's not even truly controversial. No one cares about the "edginess" of his material. People rip on him because he's obnoxious, vain, shallow and the last person you would ever want to spend time with in real life.
That’s exactly how I became an Andrew Shultz fan. 3 min. clips on CZcams

It's good that he doesn't. Those who have are washed out and do this as a hail Mary cashgrab.
You can argue if more people hear your content then more people know about you. But probably a lot of people will also not go see his live shows because they saw the special. I don't have data to know how much overlap there is with lazy Netflix watchers and ticket buying comedy attendees so who knows I may be wrong. “What’s the point of creating anything if you can’t offend people?”
@@eking12019 lol I put that in quotations because I thought I heard it somewhere before. After searching for it though I think I may have accidentally come up with it myself(?). Anyway if you think about it all great creations offend someone in some way, shape, or form and often times your motivation for creating something(especially in comedy) is to offend people you disagree with. This is true regardless of your religion or political affiliation. Not everything offensive is art but the most insightful pieces of art that actually create meaningful change invariably shake things up and offend.
Nothing motivates people like a common enemy and all that.
Kinda similar to what Jordan Peterson said "in order to think, you risk being offensive"
