  • Humor is something that transcends most barriers. It is a common unification; a concept understood by all. Despite this, there exists a large portion of the population that does not think they can utilize humor. Andrew Tarvin will show you that everyone can use humor.
Andrew Tarvin is the world’s first Humor Engineer teaching people how to get better results while having more fun. He has worked with thousands of people at 200+ organizations, including P&G, GE, and Microsoft. Combining his background as a project manager at Procter & Gamble with his experience as an international comedian, Andrew’s program are engaging, entertaining, and most important, effective. He is a best-selling author, has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and TEDx, and has delivered programs in 50 states, 18 countries, and 3 continents. He loves the color orange and is obsessed with chocolate.

    Summary of this video:
    1. Humor is a skill that you can learn through practice
    2. Humour is a way through which you can connect with other people but starting a conversation
    3. It helps you look at the world with a less serious attitude and it can be a great companion no matter where you stand in your life right now
    4. The world's not going to fall apart due to your bad jokes, so go ahead and let it out, you surely will get better with practice
    5. Humor allows you to vent out your stress, even if you do not want to say anything out loud you could always be funny in your head
    6. It all starts with a choice, a choice to be funny to look at the whole wide world with a different lens

Personally I think comedy is the key to anyone’s heart. I used to be that guy in the corner, sad, and didn’t want anything to do with anyone in school. Then I told a joke to someone, they laughed. It felt so good to have someone take notice and have a positive reaction to me. Then I tried it again, and then I realised I had something with comedy and making people laugh.
Comedy taught me confidence, and to just try. My saying is life is “If you have something funny to do or say, just do it.”

That's exactly how teaching works. You need a familiar topic, known to everyone and then present a twist to it, something that matches the same pattern but people didn't know about it. What really happens is that we got confused for a moment, trying to make the connections and see the pattern, and when we "get it" - brain gives us cookies, because brain wants us to learn new things. Children learn new things every day, laughing up to 200 times a day. Because they're discovering something new. Jokes teach us a new perspective, and it makes us happy. This is the same reason that will make you smile, because you've learned something new...

"When a computer has a problem, you get an error message. When a something goes wrong with a human, you get...*feelings*"
    Eugh. Emotions. Felt that.

And a computer's attempt to understand humans would be... a BIT problematic. ;)

I really enjoyed this guy's perspective and delivery! I also love this man's grandma, her responses to his facebook statuses were my favorite part of this whole video.

I’m kinda confused why a lot of people in the comments is still trying to learn to be funny while they already get me laughing to death

I enjoyed this very much! I love to laugh...however I love making others laugh even more....and it seems to come to me naturally. At almost 62 years young, I am deciding which direction I want to take on this journey called Life...and your TED TALK has opened my eyes to things I have never thought about before. Thank you very much for this. And..you are funny! Very! My colleague definitely heard me laughing! Your grandmother is awesome! 😅Wishing you all the best!

Thank you so much, it blew my mind. I've always thought that humor is innate. When I saw a friend who could easily make everybody laugh, I was so jealous. I wish I could be this funny too. But my mind thinks its instinct, I never once tried to cultivate it

When he made the sin joke, my first though was, "OH." (Opposite / Hypotenuse) 😂 I would definitely respond favorably to this pick up line. 👌🏻
