STRIKE DISTANCE: AFTER RACE
Yeah I hate those. First time I saw that graphic a couple races ago, one moment it said "in two laps", and a few seconds later it said "after race"...
Was that in brazil last year?

The biggest thing coming out of this race
JAMES NEEDS A PAYRISE
"James, this is Toto"
Valtteri its james
Hamilton is faster so let him pass
I feel like those guys already earn loads.
Hi, I'm fairly new to f1. This is my first season. I thoroughly enjoyed all the races so far. I know who Toto is but who's James?
@@aaronryder4008 the cheif strategist for mercedes
I think it was a good race. If you ask me, I think this should be standard quality for an f1 race. Not bad, not a classic, but still entertaining.
Sergi Monserrat Mascaró yeah agreed.
People that called Hungary boring are the type of people to watch the Highlights on the Formula 1 channel. Freakin' hell man
Yeap
Nope
But i watch the race and higlights
Or people who have a fit whenever a certain driver wins....
Some of us don’t have an attention span
tbh, the only reason Mercedes could make that strategy work, is that both Ferrari's and Gasly were miles behind. Hamilton had a free pitstop. If he would have dropped behind 1 or 2 other cars, it wouldn't have worked.
I agree, but I would like to add the factor that Lewis had more race pace than Max. Therefore, he was able to pressure Max throughout the race (killing Max' tires) and reduce the gap before the end of the race
Mort_the_2nd no shit Sherlock
@@Ben-py4mc didnt Matt or Jack say that yesterday?
The only reason max kept the lead past the first stint is because bottas was forced to the back with wing damage. Had he stayed in play, he would've been pressured by both mercedes. All swings and roundabouts.
Mort_the_2nd yes but that didn’t happen so your point means nothing
Unpopular opinion: Ocon is extremely overrated
of course, he'll never do what Bottas do
Ask Max about Ocon, He and Russell are the Mercs future once Hamilton retire in 2024
soupe2000 yh exaclty
@@femiceo328 Verstappen hates Ocon actually
@@soupe2000 True Ocon beat him in gp3 or so. Then Brazil 2018. They are not buddies. Reason why Merc wants him in the other car.
Everybody comparing gasly's performace to kviat's performance in 2016 and than be confused why gastly is still in the Red Bull seat is forgetting a major factor here: Max Verstappen.
Helmut Marko was intent on getting Max in the RB car as soon as he saw how good he did in the Torro Rosso car.
The Kviat torpedo stuf only gave them the perfect excuse. I mean if you have to choose between Kviat or Riciardo to move in 2016 then it is a easy choice.
If there was a new Max in the RB family then Gasly would already be gone.... but there is none...
I mean Kviat does ok at TR now but he's not exactly a prodigy.
Also i think Max will have a say in it and i dont think he would favor Kviat over Pierre.
never thought about this factor, very good point
Kvyat even best Ricciardo in 2015 fair and square so it was actually very harsh.
1. Mercedes signs Bottas for 2020
2. Renault offers Ocon a serious amount of money, Ocon goes to Renault
3. Hulkenberg goes to Red Bull, which needs an experienced driver like Ricciardo alongside Verstappen
4. Gasly goes to Formula E or back to Super Formula
Ahahahahaja
You obviously don't know what Super Formula is
@@volcolmshoot What are you getting at?
I mean you were right about the first two
Ocon wouldn’t do any better than Bottas, change my mind.
Russell would even be better option but he is staying at williams
At first I agree but Ocon can develop more than Bottas due to age, so they can have a driver ready when Lewis begins to lose the battle against RB and fer. (I think Bottas is also a great driver btw. Merc has a luxury problem.) Don't kill me for my 2 cents please :p
I agree. But Ocon has a future. Bottas is at the end of his career. Bottas has maybe 1-2 years of good racing in him. Ocon probably has 10. So Merc can loose Ocon and then panic in 3 years. Or get Ocon now, and train him. That is unfortunately the choice
Ocon in Mercedes vs. Max in Red Bull. Will keep Max busy. Ocon gets the seat.
Agreed
Max and Lewis showing again they are head and shoulders above the rest of the field, Max could actually give a title challenge to the Mercs thats how good he is
That's how good redbull have become
@@marshallmarthes tell that to Gasly
A lesson to Max, you need a good car to always challenge for F1 championship.
@@marshallmarthes Red Bull easily has the slowest engine on the grid, yet they have a beast of a chassis. Red Bull cars can't even take on Mclaren or Racing Point on the straights.
@@Deovantay Not really, the Chassis and low drag wing are a beast/best acceleration out of the corners. .5sec over the Ferrari is not slow. We will see in Spa and Monza tho
They had no patience for Kyvat, 1)because it was his second season, 2) because he took out their former golden boy, Vettel, 2) Danny Ric had no patience for him, and 3) Max was waiting in the wings.... Kyvat's demotion was more about Max's ascendance than the start to Kyvat's 2016 season.
There's no satisfying F1 fans. They're the ones ruining the sport, for me.
TheMaverickSpawn Precisely! I’m sick of the lot of them
@@TypicallyThomas exactly, we´ve had 4 good races in a row, that´s amazing

Really like the podcast. Three different personalities that aren't afraid of giving their own opinion, that keeps it interesting all the time. Don't change a thing.
Something interesting I have not heard anyone say yet is that I think Bottas ended up being crucial. Everyone had only one set of hards, no one ran them in practice. However, Bottas had to put them on on lap 3. So by Hamiltons 2nd pitstop, only Merc new the true behaviour of the hards!
Absolutely! After Bottas' 2nd stop, they confidently told Hamilton that Verstappen would be on a tyre limit.
31:14 I like how Jess pauses for a good two seconds after saying "adequate drivers" and looks at the others for a potential reaction before continuing :D
Lmao I didn’t catch the reason for the pause at first bc I wasn’t watching, just listening 😂 thanks for pointing this out

It seems he just isn't quite as quick on the brakes. Doesn't look nearly as bad as what the timesheets read though. Hope Pierre can sort it out for the second half of the season.
@@NerfHerdsman spoiler alert: he can't.
Matt talking about Hungarian words at the start takes me straight back to Magyar Nagydij
It’s a shame for Red Bull that they don’t have an adequate replacement for Gasly but they let Sainz go... like seriously
Btw interesting thing, Charles said out of Lando, Pierre, Albon and Verstappen, he thought Albon was the quickest when they were still racing each other in karting, and f3
He said either Albon or Verstappen
Yeap Albion was a monster then. The reason why the RBR seat is playing out to the end of the season.
ver was the quickest , he won the european and the world championship against all these guys...but albon is a real talent and could easily end up at red bull...dont know if it will be next season and then there is still kvyat who is proving he is fast 2 and learned from his mistakes...we will see
This didnt age well. Feel so Bad for albon because i know he is a good driver
58:33 Nothing will change, I will hold you to that Jess. I think we all will because what you are now, is what we like about the channel and you guys.
Hungary was a great normal dry Grand Prix, until the last 4 laps you didn’t know who was going to win
It was the best race of the season. Strategically beautiful and exactly what F1 is. F1 is not a lottery, it's hard work and determination, design and strategy. If you preferred German GP, perhaps look outside of F1 for your thrills; perhaps BTCC or some other lottery style racing?
Chris Moose that was my favorite race of the season, mainly due bc I’m a Hamilton, I love the strategy and for me at least, everyone was saying that Max is a better driver and I felt like this is a big race for Hamilton bc his position as the top driver is being challenged and Hamilton fought back and he showed why he is an all time great
Germany present it's own strategic challenge and skill requirements
I would say both demonstrate aspects of F1 racing in different instances.
I think tommy summed it up perfectly because the last 4 races have all been different but they've been brilliant and intriguing to watch.
Russell in a Williams gets within 0.05s of q2, nearly laps his teammate and finishes ahead of stroll and Giovinazzi and doesn't get an A*?
Clearly having one of the best cars is the only way to have a cracking drive in WTF1's opinion.
I understand this is not an awesome entertaining race.. but whoever says this race is boring is not a real F1 fan...
Mark my words: red bull is going for Hulkenberg (they talked already, also a bit payback for Daniel Ricciardo)and Ocon will be in a Renault(french). Bottas will stay at merc i assume
The saying is: "Monaco without the barriers"
Watching this in 2020 and seeing that jess was completely right with her concern that it would be too early to put Alben into that rb seat
Congrats to you guys on the acquisition, that’s awesome news!!! What a major accomplishment. You guys should be really proud of the brand you’ve created
I love how 2/3 bad races for Bottas plus mercedes stating they won't announce drivers until August instantly means Bottas is definitely getting the boot
Anyone that can't watch the intervals and see more than 20 laps of "Hunt and Kill" and the tension that it builds until the pass gets done just isn't a race fan.
It is similar to the plot of most action movies! 80 minutes of chase, 5 minutes of conflict and 5 minutes of resolution.
Red Bull have to replace Gasly with Kvyat because they’re close to P2 in constructors which is worth lots of money so it’s worth trying a switch now
Toro rosso don't need caveat they need a Max Lewis driver if they can get that they will get good results
Please change my mind: Ocon is overrated. I don't understand why he would deserve the seat over Bottas...
can't change your mind i said that before Ocon had an Impressive first season.
but his 2nd season wasn't that impressive and it became clear he was no Verstappen / Leclerc.
if Mercedes would put Ocon in that car they would look like idiots in my eyes.
He does not deserve it to be in one of the top 3 teams.
Jess seems like the kind of schoolteacher / professor who would mark your exam papers rather strictly :(
To me she behaves like the one that would bash a student just for having hairstyle which in her opinion is inappropriate
By the way she speaks, id say she has never taken an English class. She is more like an energetic puppy that moves her lips before her brain catches up
“i think they keep him for this year“
Days later: Gasly and Albon switching
From mercedes perspective, Bottas is the guy to give a seat. Its business, simple as that. From 15 years on now, someone will drive Hamiltons 8 dwc car as they did with Michaels 2004 Ferrari in Hockenheim. Thats something that every business is after, leaving marks to history. Bottas will probably never win championship against Hamilton on the same car, but in other hand nor does he sabotage Hamilton. In the end, Bottas delivers enough points for cwc, and is decent quali prompter for Ham so end of discussion.
Can never hear "half a point" without thinking of these lot bickering haha
Would Ocon challenge Hamilton more? At Force India he was a match for Pérez but I don’t think he could beat Hamilton any more often than Bottas does. I like Ocon but I’m not convinced he is a world class driver
31:10 "Red Bull had no choice but to put Gasly in that seat..." really, what about Sainz...
They'd already committed to letting him go I think
I love this channel so much I'm not even going to mention the amount of ads on this video
Wow congrats on the acquisition! Well deserved recognition for all! As a new F1 fan this year (thanks to Netflix), I have loved your content both pre and post race. We're here with you as you continue to grow!
I eagerly await your race review podcasts after a race weekend. Fantastic as always!
On another note @WTF1 please ensure Dan speaks into the mic properly for your "That Time When" series. I love his input but really struggle to hear him sometimes, I was trying to listen to your Jackie Stewart podcast yesterday in my car and eventually had to give up as I couldn't hear him.
You forget about the history in which Kvyat actually beat Ricciardo in the Driver's championship in 2015, which was Kvyat's debut year at RBR.
I feel bad for Russell. He is F2 champion and now he is struggling at the back. I just hope he doesn't become another Ocon, look what happened to him.
But dont forget, last year we were all hoping that Ocon does not become another Wehrlein and look what happened to him...

CONGRATZ ON 400K
The problem with Vettel this season is his confidence in the car. The new front wing of Ferrari does not give the car the downforce it needs. This is why they have to maximize the front wing angle, which disturbs the airflow to the back end, which makes the back of the car nervous, which is why Vettel has no confidence (all according to the german coverage on RTL). Basically, Ferrari got screwed by the new front wing regulations.
Also, Haas will definitely not sign Hülkenberg. Magnussen has a seat at Haas for 2020 and those two drivers do not like each other.
Mag doesn't have an issue with Hul, but he respects him. He said as much in his beyond the grid episode. Mag is just an ass on track.
@@whysrumgone Ah, never mind my last point then. I just thought of what Magnussen said to Hülkenberg after the 2017 Hungarian GP
Rutger Dinnissen could well be the frontwing for Ferrari.. Red Bull had the same problem but fixed most of it with an update 1st used in Austria.. I just find it peculiar Mercedes never seems to have these huge performance killing problems, outside of their cooling problems every now and then..
I thought people have mental issues when they talk to themselves in third person like Leclerc does. But then I read some articles that it's actually quite good to talk in third person to yourself. It didn't really help him this season tho.
Welllllll i guess Tommy was right about Albon bieng selected xD
I am so gassed they actually picked my question about Gasly’s replacement. What the hell thanks WTF1.

By the way Red Bull did have the choice of giving the seat to Carlos Sainz and not only Pierre Gasly.

I know everyone is tired of Hamilton winning but to see him have to win one properly and not just run away from pole was refreshing and proves he's actually great, its not all the car
Nice shirt Matt
As long as yall keep it feeling like you're working on a shoestring budget. Keep the low budget (all be it fun) graphics and using phones to play jingles and all will be right with the world.
If you are the second driver like Bottas and Gasly, with your team mate performing well above your capabilities at this moment in your carreers (you are not able to pull a Leclerc), how to proceed in the long run? You perform the best you can until the #1 retires? You go all-in and risk damage (2018's Verstappen) until you get conffy with the car? You start looking elsewhere for seats? Things are tricksy...
At the beggining they refer to "Mogyoród" where the actual track is. It mirror translates to english as "your nut".
They have trouble to pronounce it as we have letters that are multiple characters long such as "gy".
Congratulations on the acquisition! Looking forward to the content!

"Sainz overtakes Gasly".
After the news, even more plausible.
Great podcast as always thanks for the effort!
the jingle is a great addition, but please play it digitally and not into the microphone from a phone/computer :/ I can't hear anything clear from it.
Congrats to 400 k subs 👍🏻👍🏻
Bottas has not had one consistent season since he came to Mercedes, which will not be good enough for them. They've had the better car for most of the seasons, so consistency will pretty much be all they will be asking for. He doesn't need to finish ahead of Hamilton, because he's there for the constructers championship
Tommy heralding the replacement of Gasly by Albon! Great call. My 2 cents: I totally agree that Albon has more potential, and they should assess him before putting Kvyat in a Red Bull.

I thought that in its own way the Hungarian GP was every bit as interesting as the German GP, in the sense it was a pure duel, not a lottery. I'm old enough to remember the 1995 European Grand Prix, which Schumacher won with a similar strategy, pitting from behind the leading car (Alesi) but doing all the work in the final stint.
I've been waiting for this since Sunday
7:18 , when you get robbed at the local supermaket!
Kvyat didn't push Albon wide. You can see that he was steering to give him room, but then saw that he went wide so took more track.
I think grosjean is an "at risk" driver too. He's not pushed the team forward with development and instead just complaining how it's everyone else's fault
Bottas got bullied. Red Bullied? ;)

Now what?
Premier League
My life ends for 3 weeks
Premier League and/or Rugby World Cup build up, possibly the Ashes? If you're only really into motor racing, the W Series finale is this week and MotoGP is ongoing.
I hate that Hamilton in the end just stormed past because of tires
My strategy idea was that Red Bull knew that Lewis was going to catch up and knew that Max's tires were going to be quite old when Lewis caught up and wouldn't be able to defend. They should have flipped the script on MB and pitted Max for soft tires with 15 laps to go. He would have only been 10 seconds behind at that point and could have tried to take it back right at the end since Lewis was on medium tires.
Their issue was that the Merc was faster than them the whole race. Backmarkers and the fact it was Hungary saved him. I don't think he would have had the tires to make up 10 seconds to Lewis on tires that weren't particularly old. Their only chance was to hop Max's tires held on and that he'd be able to defend
Thing was Lewis had fresh tyres and could have defended. I mean the mediums do last enough time and the softs would have started dying out by the end if max put in fast laps.
Also he may have ruined a bit of tyre life overtaking backmarkers.
I do believe Bottas's tyre data helped Lewis a lot
They asked Christian horner about that and he said Max's lap record was one lap on those tires with everything turned up. He would've killed his tires pretty quick trying to keep up with Hamilton who kept breaking the track record over and over again
The Merc was faster especially with the RS magic on
Can you guys please do a ‘silly season’ podcast after the decision on Bottas has been made? That’s if all the seats have been decided before spa :)
Good luck, guys. Love what you do 👍
To me two great rivals chasing for 70 laps, battling for 1st at a pace that none else could sustain for 70 laps? That's a cracking race in my book. Watching the strategy develop, driver taking different racing lines to go faster or defend better, technique that's enjoyable. Everybody holding Germany as one of the best GPs ever, imo, just live chaos. 37 safety cars, cars crashing every corner is not enjoyable for me. Germany was great but it would have been better if the cameras showed more of the racing than pit lane or DNFed driver walking while there was action on track. On track battles, even a close chase like Canada, trumps pit lane action or some random celebrity looking cool.
STOP talking up Bottas cuz when the gloves r off only Max can go wheel to wheel with Lewis currently. I expect Max to finish 2nd in the championship.
Shoutout to kimi lapping giovinazzi
