How fast is the new $50k Nissan Z? - New Z vs Supra vs Mustang Mach-1 - Cammisa's Drag Race Replay

- The 2023 Nissan Z has a 400-hp twin-turbo V-6. It's roughly the same price as the Ford Mustang GT 5.0 and Toyota Supra, so let's answer the $50,000 question: Which one makes it through the quarter-mile first?
The 2023 Z Sport starts at $41,015 (with destination) but this is the $51,015 Z Performance, which comes with wider tires and a limited-slip differential. It's likely that the base car will be slower due to the rear-wheel traction differential.
For the first race, with Jason Cammisa's now-iconic frozen-time slow-mo walkback, we have the 2023 Nissan Z with a 9-speed automatic transmission battling a 10-speed Ford Mustang Mach-1 and an 8-speed Toyota GR Supra 3.0.
Instrumented Testing Results are as follows:
1. 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-1 (automatic)
0-60 mph = 3.8 sec
1/4 mile = 12.1 sec @ 120 mph
2. 2022 Toyota GR Supra 3.0
0-60 mph = 3.8 sec
1/4 mile = 12.1 sec @ 117 mph
3. 2023 Nissan Z (Performance package) (automatic)
0-60 mph = 4.0 sec
1/4 mile = 12.3 sec @ 116 mph
For the second race, we have the 9-speed automatic Z versus the Z 6-speed manual.

1/4 mile = 12.3 sec @ 116 mph

And for the bonus round, we have a 2010 Aston Martin V8 Vantage 4.7, which is almost exactly the same size, weight, horsepower, and torque as the New Z.

First of let me let me just take a moment to appreciate the production quality of this video. Specially the the slow-mo at the end of the drag race was absolutely mind blowing. Now that we have appreciate that I just want to say you guys are doing amazing work like mind blowing stuff. I always used to think nothing would be able to touch the Top Gear's level l, but sir you have proven me wrong. Just wanna wish you all the best for future and yeah NEVER STOP DRIVING

I wanna see this done again with all of them on the same set of tires, factory is nice and all but the z is marketed as an enthusiast car and I don't know of a single car enthusiast that doesn't change around their tires, I want to see this with all of them on pilot sport cup 2s or something

My 2020 Mustang GT got dynamometer results in line with most of the stock GTs at the time: 419hp at the wheels versus what seemed to be an average around 410-415.
Now that the new S650 chassis is out, the S550s tested against them are showing power figures in the 380s. No one is talking about where 30hp just went, but the S650 GT at 408hp looks good by comparison.
I look at my dyno graph and wonder how the new "more powerful" Mustang is turning out dyno results 10hp less than my GT when it's supposed to have a 20hp advantage. And no one is impressed with the acceleration times just yet. Not even for the Shady Pony.

Would love to see a rematch with Michelin tires on the Z
Not gonna matter 5.0 will take it everytime especially top end and boost vs boost built vs built no matter what the 5.0 will be the better option. 5.0s come with forged internals from factory and capable of handling 1000hp stock and has already ran 8s 1/4 with a sealed motor. Cause let’s be honest a who really be talking about and racing stock cars best bang for ur buck anyday is the 5.0
@@dylangobel2923 Not to mention all 5.0 Mustangs from 2018+ come with port and direct injection from the factory. That means you can drop a procharger in the Mach for $7k with zero supporting upgrades and push 740+ HP. I mean its usually apples to oranges comparing modded cars, but that level of over-engineering is what old Supra owners loved so much about it.

The supra HP rating is severely underated. That 382hp rating is more like at the wheel rating.
The supra is super light as well which makes a big difference.
The B58 is def underrated and its a BMW so that means more than like crank hp

@@superlight1999 most sports cars in General are between 3300-4000lbs. Cars that are lighter than 3300lbs are usually super cars like the McLaren 720S and ect. The Shelby GT500 is what you can all a heavy car being 4,056lbs for the carbon fiber track package.
@@yusufgta4341 For reference, the Civic Type R is 3,100 pounds. Gone are the days of mid 2,500 pound affordable sports cars.

Videography was top notch. I’d like to see a rerun with the Z on better tires. It sounds like the Z cut power shifting into 2nd because of traction control at 2:44. Same thing happens on my Q50 Redsport.
Also, Nissan probably has a “stability control” button you have to disengage in addition to the traction control in order to do a burnout in the auto.
They've been doing this for years. Even in the manuals a standing burnout is impossible unless you disconnect the yaw sensor.
Yeah, prepared track, better tires the auto would probably be in the 11’s.
Aftermarket diff and tires usually is the only fix for that on the modern nissans
What the video shows is not fastest run. It shows the cars finishing in the order their fastest run indicates. All three cars can run faster times with a better tire.
@@SpyderRios agreed, all three would run faster on better tires. I’d like to see if the Z’s time would improve if it was running the same tire as the other two.

I have a red sport (same engine). It still shred pilot sport 4s on launches. Now I run semi slicks, full grip on launches.
Is fugly...once the supra is out with the manual and the S58 BMW engine...it will be game over. That one will be the one to get.

3:11 - that board still showing the immortal GMC Syclone on it some 30+ years later, now that had to be one insanely fast pickup to people back then....then again 13.3 ET it's damn impressive even today👍
and with a 0 - 60 time of 4.3 seconds in the rain!
I had a 90 Mustang LX coupe that was modified and those damn Syclones and Typhoons would always edge me out 😠
The Syclone is such an amazing vehicle. Leno said it is one of his favorite vehicles.

I believe you, it clocks times like a passenger sports car from a decade after the Syclone/Typhoon were new...both were faster then the '03 F-150 SVT Lightning, '04 Silverado SS or '08 RAM SRT-10 with half the motor size.

It's absurd how good the aston still looks compared to the modern designs of the Z and supra. Z looks great though
Yeah I thought the Z looked great but then the aston just looks spectacular next to it. It looked so out of place compared to the other three just because it was so much prettier

They're all awesome. This Mustang is the first one I've ever thought was sexy... but one thing the Mustang has been best at is making an incredible sound. The older ones may have handled like garbage and had the sophistication of a Duplo car, but they always sounded phenomenal.
If you state all that you must be nuts all Mustangs had been great cars at their time

Would love if this happened. As a past Z owner myself, it’s influence on car production is sometimes overlooked. When you think 2 door coupe, RWD, NA, 6spd, and quick….the Z car is truly the embodiment of that description!

And a E brake like it should...
literally super wide pilot sport 4Ss and some wider wheels, along with some coilovers and some weight reduction would have you zoomin. at this point, AMS's stuff would be largely optional, imo.

@@kodiak7964 yup it will do but only on forced induction and B58 wouldn’t need that much money to toke it to 4 digit power levels so for me B58 is a better engine
@@SL9SH It will cost around the same amount of money to make 4 digits on both cars. Really you don't even need a turbo to do that on the mustang. A simple bolt on supercharger and headers will take it there with e85.

What do you think of the mach 1s dysfunctional grill vent circle things? Was looking at one the other day, and it was just so frustrating to see that a $60,000 mustang had fake vents everywhere.

At least 420-430. The older version they rated at "335" had 380-390.

Agreed, it's much better looking and sounding than any of the cars there save for the Aston. That being said, most people won't benefit much with a Mach 1 over a GT PP. Get the GT, keep the extra $15k+ in your savings.
