Can the new Acura Integra keep up with its peers? Or the original Type R? - Cammisa Drag Race Replay

  • How quick is the 2023 Acura Integra A-Spec? On this episode of Cammisa's Ultimate Drag Race Replay, we race it against the legend: the original DC2 Integra Type R.
    This episode of Ultimate Drag Race Replay is brought to you by WeatherTech: www.weathertech.com/?...
    After the new-vs-old Integra race, we race the new Integra against its current front-wheel drive competition: the Volkswagen Jetta GLI and Hyundai Elantra N - the only other fwd, turbocharged, manual-transmission sport compact sedans you can buy today.
    For perspective on just how fast today's cars are, we also bring out a Ford Bronco Raptor - though we keep it on the dirt.
    Cammisa's Ultimate Drag Replay is all about perspective, including our now-famous walkback, in which Jason explains what happened - including for example, how the Integra's gears are so short that it actually pulls harder than the Jetta GLI; or how the Jetta's all-season tires and overprotective traction control mean it's already behind the all-business Hyundai Elantra N by the time it gets to 30 mph.

      It's all thanks to the BMW M-Power director & chef engineer which Hyundai got for the last few years to involve in creating the N division sprucing sportiness into the Hyundai factory cars, is not a bad thing but this is the main reason they got so advanced lately snatching experts which use to work for other brands.. Is about competition between brands, i really like what Hyundai / Kia did recently but the most awesome thing Hyundai did the : Pony '74 revival, that thing is Epic..

Obviously the integra is more luxury and less performance focused, but this video is meant to show what the car brings to the table from a performance stand point.
      You can get much more performance for the same dollar which shows the integra is pretty far behind it's segment in just performance. Again, it's more than a bare bones performance car so that's okay but it is obviously the weakest performance car.
      Saying that it needs to be compared to cars way cheaper than itself is like saying a dumb 8th grader should be compared to 6th graders because he's dumb 😂. The Integra is compared to other $30k cars because it is a $30k car.
      It's kind of pathetic already that a $30k car needs to be compared to a low $20k car to make it look passable.
      If you're talking about racing/autocross classes sure. Only issue is in the real world you're paying real money. No one is comparing $30k cars to $20k cars just because the $30k car is so bad that it needs to be compared to a $20k car. That already proves that it's outmatched from a performance stand point.

      For daily driving, it's a blast. I seriously love it. If you want something that's great on the track, get the Hyundai. For daily driving? Easily the Integra. It's very comfortable, all of the controls just make sense, and the sound system is unrivaled in its class. It's subdued and pleasant when you want it to be and plenty fast when you want to have fun.

    Can we see the Jetta GLI with stock tires vs a Jetta GLI with real performance tires?
    There was so much wheel spin that I'm seriously curious how things would change with better traction.

    After seeing what the 10th gen Accord 2.0 did I got excited Honda was finally back and remembered their roots. Then I saw it was just a fluke, and they only remember their roots the way I remember to call home in college when I needed money. For me, the Toyota 86's looking pretty enticing over the "Integra."

    10thgen civic si comes with adaptive suspension, and a limited slip turbo charged but it's not ugly at all. And it was cheaper at 25k at the time. Lol

    Well, now that I've driven the new Integra out in the real world, there is no way I'm getting a Jetta or an Elantra no matter how much quicker they are. It's one of the best riding quality manual transmistion cars on sale. It's not cheap by any means.. especially now that dealers want 5k mark up for everything.

    I said this back when they first announced the hp and torque ratings for the civic si and integra that they were at least 25-30 to low to match the competition. They could have easily bumped up the power without overshadowing the new type r

    • @sigmaprojects
      @sigmaprojects Před rokem +1

      Honda also employs a lower powered 2.0T version of the motor in I think the Accord. To me that should have been the base model in the new Integra. I just have no idea who would really want a new Integra.

    • @GROGU123
      @GROGU123 Před rokem

      Yes, but given the current nature of the gas price market. The Honda 1.5T is a great compromise in performance to fuel usage.

      That's normal Honda has always sold low hp cars up until the new type R 2.0 every other type r have an been in the 200hp low range

    • @sigmaprojects
      @sigmaprojects Před rokem +1

      @@eulogy1981 You mean they've kept the 200~hp range for so long and now being out shined by others. 90's for the power/weight ratio 160~200hp was great. Now a days with cars bigger and heavier 200hp isn't a lot to compete with.

      @@GROGU123 If that's what the customers want, can't argue against it. But I don't think people care about a couple MPG vs fun when selecting a sports car. GR86 went the opposite direction, they made the car have worse MPG for the sake of fun. They get it.
