My buddy had a Wolfhound that hung over the arm of the couch to get into a lap. His hind legs were still on the floor.
My uncle has a large pitbull named Rocky. He's jumpy but is indeed a good boy and a lap dog when he's calm.

My 90 lb pitbull hates riding in my car and will pout like nobody's business, he's much happier in my pickup because he can ride in my lap with his head out the window.

I brought a whole litter of kittens to visit my grandmother at her assisted living place. Talk about scuttlebutt buzzing through the rooms, and folks just showed UP and snuggled and giggled. One lady who never talked spoke a bit, and it was such a gift. Grammie love!

I want a Dane but I can't handle the life span, hard enough to lose a dog after 15 years.
My little dog lived to be 17. It was still heartbreaking to lose her.

i had a dane from age 3-15he lived a long 12 years. it’s a rarity, usually a life span from 8-10 years, but it’s well worth it. i’m 17 now and we grew up together so it’s weird not having him around

They will be there for you for all the high and low points of your life. You'll dance with them in celebration on some days, and cry into the ruffled fur of their necks on others and they'll never stop living you.
Each will be different, even if you end up only with Great Danes. Each one will have a different personality, but will share all the wonderful traits of their species and breed.
A lot of people will enter into your life and end up leaving, too, but if you love dogs it'll be rare for you to not automatically get up at walkies time, and it will indeed feel weird without one in your life.
It really doesn't matter if they do tricks or even sit when they're told. Some will pull like heck on the leash and others not so much, but chances are they'll all drag you the length of a football field if they see a squirrel.
You'll have stories of each. No dog gets thru life without doing half a dozen or so crazy things. My last dog, Milla (after the actress Milla Jovavich in the 5th Element) had a thing for jumping up and snatching food from peoples hands. She never bit anyone, but she wasn't small (lab mix muttly) and her teeth would snap shut mere millimeters from people's fingers as she snatched hot dogs and slices of pizza from total strangers. I live in the Bronx, NYC, and she nearly got me killed several times when she did this to mad thugs.
I thought it was hysterical. Dominican drug dealers from Washington Heights not so much.
I ended up buying so many replacement food items for people. It was ridiculous. I mean, who wants to get shot over a single hot dog off a cart?
But you know what?
Totally worth it.

Yeah, my dog passed at 11yo in November. It hurts, man. The pain has gotten better but there are times that I still really feel devastated. When she passed away, I was so stressed I fucked up my jaw with clenching and grinding and had to go to a doctor. Unless you've gone through strong emotional pain, you don't really understand how much that pain can become physical.

When I was twelve, I was so scared that the house sitter would forget to feed my precious fishie. He was my first fishie and a good old soul.
Monday through Friday for me is just the daily grind I have to go through until I can hurry home to my dog. On weekends he's by my side everywhere I go, unless he's not allowed in (grocery store, restaurants, etc).
Kernel is so cute! I give my dog a hug every morning whether she wants it or not 😆

all of that is very typical with danes. they are usually all big gentle giants that don't have a clue just how big they are. and they always want be right there doing what ever their people are doing.

Great Danes are the most loving dogs I’ve ever known. I had one and I couldn’t help but let him snuggle me all the time. They don’t smell bad the way smaller dogs do, and the shedding is minimum, so how could I or would I resist? I miss him. He was such a sweet 220 lb boy.

i used to have a mini yorkie! he unfortunately died when he was 1 and a half, but he was so much fun 😭 and he was so smart!! taught himself how to ask for food etc
