I have often wondered to myself if extra terrestrial beings would understand and accept our desire to hug, or would they assume it to be aggression.
If they've observed us, they have to be aware that we do it. I'd like to think they'd accept an embrace, whether they enjoy such things or not. Time will tell I suppose.

What the Elephant one does not mention; that man helped many elephants and when he passed, the elephants he helped actually showed up to his funeral and they come back yearly to pay respects to his grave around the same time he passed. Every year.

I think you have the wrong person. There was only one elephant clip that I saw and the man is Darrick, from the Elephant Nature Park in Thailand. He is very much alive. He works with his wife Lek to rescue abused elephants. That clip was him after being away for over a year and Kham La, the female elephant, heard his voice and ran excitedly to him.

I think it’s just so incredible and spectacular that a human manages to have a relationship with wild animals because they aren’t naturally pets or safe to keep but this just shows that not all animals are the aggressive, over protective animals we think they are

Seeing a lion being depressed is just so terrifyingly sad. It literally shows that everyone, even one of the biggest and fiercest predators of all could by affected by it.
depression is painfully deadly and devastating, in humans and animals alike.
i had two dogs, mother and son. when the mother died, the son got depressed and stopped eating, and moving and was just, there, but not doing anything for six months. he passed away

Dogs are wolves, but they evolved over the course of time. Wolves were tamed by natives long ago and soon became the doggie decendants they are now. Wolves are no different. As long at the human is not a threat, they see no harm in socializing and befriending one.

It's amazing how animals as wild as elephants, bears, and lions can form relationships like this with humans.
With the exception of bears, all those animals are social creatures like humans, so they already have a reference for forming bonds with other beings besides themselves. If a human is with them enough and helps them, eventually they can learn to trust that human. But even bears know care and concern because they care for their young. Elephants in particular are very intelligent and show complex social interactions within their herds, including mourning their dead and tending to their wounded.

I love that the concept of a hug seems to exist in animals too. Like, they're obviously not attacking, or else they would be trying to bite or claw, but they were just holding. Maybe it's the idea of holding someone or something in your arms to protect it, and the security of a hug. Holding something close to keep it safe
There's nothing defensive about grabbing onto someone and not trying to attack them, and none of these behaviors seem to be anything other than appreciation and love. I don't want to jump to conclusions about their behavior and apply human concepts to it, but I really don't see another explanation. They obviously don't view them as threats, and aren't looking to attack. And THEY went to the humans, so they're obviously not forced and aren't looking to flee. They don't seem stressed by the hugs and don't feel trapped, otherwise they'd try to get away, not continue holding on

There is always an extreme danger. Especially with being apart for long periods such as years. But we always sometimes get attacked by these animals because we don’t treat them with humanity.

What happened in the first video happened to me and my dog. She was a family dog from when I was a teenager and she and I were separated after my mother passed away. She went to live with my older brother for a few years, but he moved somewhere he couldn't keep her and gave her to a friend. Her new owners found she just wasn't happy with them and I had just moved into a new place where I could take her so I jumped at the chance, but we hadn't seen each other in probably 6 or 7 years.
When they dropped her off at my house, she spent a long while staring at the door, looking sad because she felt she'd been abandoned again. I was actually about to cry because I thought she forgot me, but then when I sat on the floor next to her, she suddenly spun around and recognized me. I'd never seen her so happy. She tackled me and wouldn't get off for about ten minutes. I was so glad that I was able to keep her with me until she passed away from old age a few years ago. She lived for over 14 years.

Those Lions were so sweet, especially the first one almost had me in tears, same goes for the guy who just wanted to see his dog again after the hurricane. I completely share these emotions and am so glad that there are people like me out there who value animals in the same way instead of those that would go and hunt animals.
I wish i had a lion or feared wild cat as a pet, no scract that, as a best friend, because lions unlike pets (domestic cats and dogs) dont get controlled by humans, we both equal

They all do, they just show it in a different way reptiles don't have the muscles to show expression in the face since they originated in mammals with the purpose of drinking milk from the mother and later used as communication way too
You will even see crocodiles running at their rescuers happy but they can't wag tail or smile they just run to them and let them pet them because of their body limitations

@@anixes exactly as i said they didnt evolve the muscles on the face since that in mammals originated only as mobile lips to help babies suck milk but then with the use of it as emotions it expanded in the rest of the face, reptiles never had to suck any milk (that sounded so wrong) (btw this also includes birds)
they still have emotions they just cant show it the same way mammals do

It’s honestly amazing how lions can be the most ferocious animals in the world, and yet also some of the most caring. Obviously it’s heartwarming to see a lion react with joy at seeing an old human companion, but the care and love it must take for such an animal to avoid clawing their friend from excitement is truly astounding.
I would personally say human species is the most ferocious. No lion/other animals has ever killed so many living creatures as humans did.

My little buddy watched this with me in my lap. Me and my wife rescued him from a shelter in 2015. She passed away in 2019 and he has been stuck to me ever since. Its all I have left of her except memories. He is so smart and we have daily routines we do together. I can see and feel his love and Im thankful to share my life with him.

My dog Buddy got out of our backyard with our other dog Dolly- we managed to get her and forgot to check if he was there since she was the one who always escaped and he stayed where he was, so we only noticed he had escaped some time after. I was the one home when he got out, so I took it pretty personally. He was gone for two days, two days we spent searching the woods an nearby neighborhoods, talked to people online and putting posters up. And we couldn’t find him. After searching on the second day I went to the woods behind our house and called his name. I didn’t think I’d see or hear anything but all of a sudden a black shape started moving out of the woods! It was Buddy! He ran up to me as soon as he heard my voice and started whining and jumping and I just fell to my knees and sobbed because I thought he might have been killed! Mom laughed later and said he had enough of the streets, he realized he was an indoor pet! 😂 He’s never ran off since

Once you've met tame lions it's hard to ever see them as fearsome again. I worked around lionesses and my goodness they are the biggest lovebugs, they make dogs look aloof

Animals are so awesome
Of course animals have emotions and they experience joy, sadness, loss and definitely love. My dogs are the only family I have now and I couldn't imagine life without them. They love unconditionally and only want to please us and part of a happy loving pack (family). Be kind and loving to all animals.
Got to admit, that prison program where prisoners are assigned dogs for companionship is a lovely idea. Sure, maybe some prisoners are beyond saving, but clearly not all of them.

Pretty sure There was a program like that but with cats. The cats ended up helping the prisoners a lot but a prisoner ended up dying because he poured juice all over another inmate's cat

I truly believe we'll be reunited with our beloved pets who have died. And I am most certain we will celebrate in the same manner.
When my grandmother was on her death bed she said that she could see all of her animals including the ones that had passed away in front of her when she would go in and out of consciousness days leading up to her death.

I like how we can literally see animals experience emotions and some people will still go "yeah, animals can't feel or think things"
We had a cat back in November that kept coming to our back porch for about a week. It was covered in ticks and looked like it wasn't eating enough. So we looked for tags and a chip and couldn't find any. So we took the cat in and took care of it for about 6 months. The owner was finally found. The cat which we named Luna was back at home for about 3 weeks. And then she kept coming to our back porch wanting attention and wanting to come into our home. One morning it was thunderstorming and Luna was on our back porch. My wife let Luna in till the storm was over. Well the owner accused my wife of having Luna in our house for 3 nights because she said that the cat wouldn't come when she called for her. My wife told the owner that we let her in for a few mins during a thunderstorm. Well the owner threaten to call the sherrifs office. So I talk to the husband. And he said I can tell that you and your wife have a big heart but it is just a cat. It seems like to me that their cat would rather be with my wife and I then her actual owner.

It’s a bit of a sliding scale. Nearly all mammals are capable of thinking in basic concepts of family/pack/herd & parent as well as basic cause and effect.
Meanwhile most species of fish and poultry birds run almost entirely on instinct gained through evolution.
Then you have the extreme outliers like corvids that are able to learn how to operate simple mechanisms.
Finally you have higher level primates like chimpanzees and humans who’ve achieved Sapience.

I had a cat that if anyone in the household left he would get upset and do things he knows he shouldn't do. On the flip side of that, when my sons were born and we bought them home (3 years apart) Willow would stand guard over their cribs and no matter how rough the boys got playing with him, he only returned love! RIP Willow, you are missed!
Yeah pets are great protectors my parents tell me story’s of when they brought me home my dog shorty which was a dash hound would lay his stomach on mine to make sure no one touched me except my parents

We've had a few cats who are similar. My cat used to refuse to eat if I'm away for a few days. Now she just snubs me for a day or two.
My mum's cat who passed away several years ago used to watch over me when I was younger too. And she would pee on mum's things if mum was away for a few days.
And my sister's cat is hella protective. She is ready to go anyone who makes my sister scream (she almost went mum once when my mum and sister had a tickle fight and my sister screamed really loudly). She is also protective of the other cats in the house. If they make sounds of pain, she comes running, ready to fight whatever is hurt them...which is generally them just being idiots and hurting themselves or each other.
My other cat also growls if someone walks through the yard at night (we have low fences and people and big dogs take that as an invitation to waltz through the yard).
These cats are/were all rescues as well
My sister told me that her cat protect her from getting attacked by snakes. Like large snakes when she was little
