- Now in District 13, Katniss, still haunted by the games, joins the growing rebellion against the Capitol to save her family, her friends, and a captive Peeta. War has come to Panem, and she must become the Mockingjay.

The Scene when Finnick is talking about what happens to some victors after the Games is sickening and the fact that Johanna is one of the few who refused so hard that Snow allowed the execution of her entire family and everyone she loved just shows why Johanna acts like she acts. She really is one of the few who actually lives up to the phrase ''nothing left to loose'', she deserved so much more even is she has darkness inside of her 🥺❤️
Wow, that is...so messed up. I love Joanna and Finnick so much.
"it's the things we love most that destroy us"
Everytime I hear that it's giving me chills. Snow knew that at this point Katniss loved Peeta, this is what she was supposed to prove in the second movie.
But now Snow can use it to his advantage to break Katniss and eventually kill her.
Also, Peeta said in the first movie how he doesn't want the Capitol to change him, if he is going to die he wants to remain himself.
Breaks my heart, because The Capitol did change him.
Right! Donald Sutherland plays such a masterful villain.
@@Flix2Us also gotta show you how Snow views other tributes, and just in general people as "things".
With what Finnick said it’s bad already that Snow would force him to sell his body like that in the first place, but if you remember as well that Finnick was the youngest victor ever who won his games at 14 it makes it even worse… he really is a horrible human being
Pure evil, but played with so much sophistication by Donald Sutherland.
@@Flix2Us he really did a great job, I can’t think of anyone who could’ve played that character so well. He’s despicable but it’s always fun to see him on the screen
13 was "graphite mining" but underneath the real specialty was nuclear weapons. Bombing of the peacekeepers was in district 7, Johanna's district.
i think one of my favorite scenes is the one where they’re coming up with new video ideas. The way everyone in the room is *Still* talking about Katniss’s actions in the games as though it was a scripted tv show. Even when they are “the revolution”, dedicated to recognizing and utilizing Katniss’s strength and influence, they can’t help but find her entertaining. And they can’t help but treat her like an actress, rather than like someone who has experienced intense trauma and loss. To me it just signified how brainwashed the people from the capitol are. No matter how much evil they see, they still try to find entertainment from it. And no matter their connection to the tributes/districts, they still turn it into a game of “what sells best?”
That's a great insight! I hadn't considered that.
...you guys gotta see the deleted scene where Effie tries to put together another "prep team" it's priceless. "Face a revolution" is the title on the clip. It's a little over a minute long
I just watched that this morning. Priceless! Elizabeth Banks is perfect for that role.
Flashback Tip: I'm not sure if you guys remember but in the first film before Katniss and Peeta goes to the arena they're sat up in the attic and Peeta talks about how he doesn't want the games or the capitol to change him - that if he's gonna die, he still wants to be himself. Peeta's brainwashing essentially does change him though, which makes this a harder hit to the gut for someone so wholesome and innocent. Loving the reaction!
I've read the books and watched the films so I might be biased to say these are my favourite book-to-film franchise like regardless leaving some detail (even my favourite scenes) that is inevitable to a 2 hr film, they did a very great job in adapting it. People don't really give a lot of credit to MJ Pt 1 especially those who have only seen the films as its literally just building up to the climax (which they arent really wrong) and even some book fans say Mockingjay could just be one feature length film but I disagree. I think Mockingjay Pt 1 deserves its own film because the book is the most detailed among the 3 and making it to one film is just gonna lose its overall message. I can say there are some scenes that can definitely be cut but replaced with other "better" scenes from the book. MJ1 is my third favourite film from the franchise just behind Catching Fire as first and Mockingjay Part 2 as second. Excited to see MJ2 reaction!
You're right! I totally forgot about that. Damn, it makes what happens to him so twisted/depressing. And I'd agree that this is a great book to movie adaptation.
6:28 the firebombing of Dresden is EXACTLY what I described to my teenager when she first watched this movie, to compare what happened at district 12! My history nerd heart (with a hyperfixation on WW2 and WW1) is so proud of you, dude. 👍
Thanks, me too! My major was Classics in university, but I've studied a lot of WW2 history. I actually had a Comp Lit course where we learned about Dresden while reading through Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse 5.
Just in case no one else mentioned it, the general public knew that District 13's industry was graphite mining, and while they did mine the substance on a small scale, their primary industry was nuclear science and technology.
There you go; you learn something new every day.
In addition, the Capitol was well aware of 13's survival and existence, and it's implied in the books that there had been some limited communication since the rebellion, but as the Capitol and 13 had their weapons pointed at one another, they negotiated a separate truce and the Capitol put it out to the districts and their own people that 13 was completely irradiated and uninhabitable, like Chernobyl.
This series is one of the best book to film translations I have seen. As is the norm you lose minor details from the books for the sake of time but the important story elements and general feeling from the books are all there.
That's the impression I've gotten from other book readers.
I made my mom watch the movies and I wish she had loud reactions, at the end of this one she just said "well now they've gotta exorcise Peeta"
I think your Mom could totally pull off Cressida's look. She has a strong and pretty face so she would look badass.
An important movie as this is, there are some things they cut/changed in the movie that I do wish they hadn't -
. The scene in the movie where Katniss realises that Snow's gonna kill Peeta is actually her realising that they won’t kill him in the book & it's so much worse because she realises that no matter what he says/dose they'll keep him alive just so they can keep torturing him
. the fact that they replaced the torture of Katniss's prep team by D13 (she found them starved, beaten & chained up in small room, covered in thier own excrement after they took & hid some extra bread) & how that drove a wedge between her & Gale (who couldn't wrap he's head around why she seemed to care about them so much considering their profession) & replaced it with Effie being silly (as though I do of course love Elizabeth Banks) just seems very out touch with what this story is supposed to be about
. Before Anne was taken to D13 Finick was shown to be much more outwardly mentally unstable then he seems in this movie, to the point that he runs up to Katniss & Boggs, wanting to go on thier journey to D12 only for them to point out that he was only in he's underwear which makes him start laughing & pulling sexy poses before Katniss managed to distract him by telling him that Beetee has made him a new trident to train with & then later, when they're in the bunkers of D13 waiting for the attack to end, he starts teaching Katniss how to make patterns out of rope as a form of therapy (because he's from the fishing district)
this is a small detail from way back in the first book but I only just remembered so here you go now -
. Katniss realises that even after so much time has passed in the games none of the male tributes have any facial hair (though, unlike the girls, they do still have body hair) & she wonders what chemicals they doused their faces with to make that possible & after what we find out about Finnick (& by extention probably other victors as well) in this movie one has to wonder about the Capital's fixation on youth.
You and your mom makes such an excellent team! 🥰
Aw, thank you!

Glad I stumbled upon your channel I love reaction videos and so far lots of movies you reacted too I love!
All Hail Mags, Finnick, Johanna!
I hated Finnick. Oh God, when we met him I hated him. And he became my second favorite character. One quote kept me going through a really difficult time in my life. "It takes ten times longer to put yourself back together than it does to fall apart.". Every time I wanted to say "f*ck it" and just stay in a wheelchair, I told myself that. Again, and again, and again, and remind myself to look back where I started, versus where I was, and to keep my eye on the prize. Then, to quote Captain America, I would sigh and say 'I could do this all day' "
Seriously, though. it's nuts how a piece of fiction can give you strength and courage to carry on.
For district 13 visualize Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado as the center of NORAD.
The only reason for the 2 movies for the 3rd book was corporate greed.
Yeah, NORAD is the impression I got.
Also one change I like in the movies is how Effie is here because she basically disappears in the Mockingjay book and she isn’t with them so I actually like this change to it because she’s a great character. In the books it’s her prep team instead that’s there, but they weren’t a thing in the movies so I understand the change.
That's cool. I really love Effie, so I'm glad they made that change.
@@Flix2Us she’s a great character! She really does grow on you as the series goes on. She isn’t a bad person just… a little out of it
Thank you for the reactions! This might be my favorite saga I went to the premiere of catching fire and mockingjay part 1/2, a prequel it’s coming out on nov 2023 so exciting
I love, love, LOVE Effie's character arc in the films. She wasn't in the 3rd book except at the end, the books had Katniss's prep team assisting her, which was nice in itself, but I understand Collins rather regretted not developing Effie more in the books and got her chance with the movies :)
Like any book to movie adaptation, they sadly cannot bring everything to the screen. But, this series of movies at least does the book series some reasonable justice. If you think the movies are hard to watch for the seemingly hopeless nature of Panem's beast, then the book series will have you reaching for a bottle of something numbing in no time. Despite all of that, this is one of my favorite series, and I'm thankful to you both for watching and reviewing.
Yeah, I can easily picture the books being more soul-crushing with a longer form story as opposed to a two hour movie. Glad you enjoyed the reaction!
Realmente tú eres el mejor actor de todos.
Sí me agrada la sinceridad de tu madre. Saludos.
Can't wait for the last movie!
Phillip died while they were making this. At least Part of him in this one is computer generated and clips of his voice.
❤❤❤
The tree climbers were Rue's district. Eleven, I think?
They were in District 7 - Johanna’s - lumber.
