I have the exact same sized garage. I'm just starting out with woodworking, and I'm laughing at the situation right now. Spent all day moving crap from the garage to the basement, and it still looks crowded with just a rolling chest, air compresser, shop vac and half a table saw (the good half) on the floor. I needed this video to get my head screwed on straight, and face the coffin that is my new workshop. Thank you, and I can't wait to get this thing together one piece at a time.
After watching this video I must say that I won't be able to complain too much about my own shop size. You did a excellent job at maximizing and making your layout work for you. Maybe I should look at moving some things around in my shop again! thanks for sharing this!

As I was watching your video, I looked at my drill press and thought, "that's a really ingenious place to put my trashcan". Saved just a bit more space in my cluttered, unorganized shop. Quite a few other tips I plan on borrowing. thanks for this vid.

Great Video. Nice and detailed gave me lots of ideas for re-organising my one car garage. Said goodbye to my sportscar this year and now ride a bicycle (E-bike conversion). Fitter, happier and healthier and more money for tools. Oh! man I shouldn't have said the more tools part - giving myself ideas...........!
Great video, good to see you can talk. Just subscribed, I saw you on Jay's channel. I have a narrow shop(12') and made the mistake of putting (free) cabinets along one wall. Now I only have 10' of width. I'm over 60 and still learning. Keep up the good work.

Good Video, liked your tool wall with no base freeing up floor space. Band saw and thicknesser is a good move. Liked a lot about what you have done. All I would say is don't leave jobs hanging. You only have to pick one of your unfinished jobs and get it done. You would feel so much better creating better space, giving drive to the next single unfinished project. An educated guess, you are going to have a workshop most of your life, smooth out the wrinkles now and let them not become bad habits. You are an exceptionally good craftsman so let me see more videos where you are driven by the love of the craft to produce, educate, inspire and most of all enjoy what you do.
Don't forget that you're ceiling is the most underused space in your shop. Ladders, sheet goods and anything that you seldom use that's long. Your young. I'm still buying equipment then find that I was to cheep and really it would not have cost that much more!
Thanks Matt your using your shop to the max. Remember over build. Wobbling surfaces make for accidents! Good luck

Matt, thanks for the video. It was truly inspiring; I was worried about space and what size shop I needed and could afford. I have been taking everything out of a storage building to work for a while and I have gotten to the point where It has become too much of a task to drag out and set up everything outside and then return it until the next day. I know now that I can survive in a smaller building than I expected.

Matt, Thank You So Much for the tips of setting up a small functional shop! I thought my space was small! Like your shop, mine is my attached garage. However, I do have 360 sqft (15'x24'). My first mistake was lining up most of my power tools (drill press, scroll saw & bench grinder, router table, dust collection unit, chop saw and bench sander, etc) along the studded wall of my space, which is 3 walls. My shop roof pitches from 20' down to 6'. This summer, I want to reverse the layout. Have all of the power tools along the block wall and storage along the 3 studded walls. My next issue is ample electrical power in the shop. I have a neighbor that is an electrician and will do the job for beers and food. My deal with him is that I will run all of the wiring and install all of the switches & outlets. The one thing I won't do is, tie into the house existing electrical system. I also love your creations for wall storage units! That is what inspired me to reverse my shop layout. Let's face it, it's easier to mount stuff to wood studs instead of a concrete block wall. I agree with your comment that if you have to dig a machine out, then you're less likely to do some woodworking. I once had my shop in the garbage and utilizing mobile bases, but since moving to the basement with ample room I now enjoy having all my machines immediately accessible.

Hey Matt! Your shop is almost exactly the same size as mine! So far, I don't mind it. It forces you to use the space more efficiently and to think about where things get stored.
Nice video, calm clear tour. I've got an even smaller shop, I have a 10 x 10 and a 10 x 16 Tuff sheds. I'm currently installing a French Cleat system so every tool has a home and I can find it.

This was a good watch! Rather than just "here's this tool, here's that tool", you made this video pretty informative! Thanks for that. Definitely good food for thought as I'm currently trying to plan a more optimized space in my own shop. You ever think about rolling carts so you can extend your workspace out into the driveway or carport while you're working? I know for me, pulling a few rolling tools into the driveway/yard help sometimes.

Yes! Especially headroom... Not for me, it's for the plywood.
Matt you still can use your 25" incra L.S.router fence on your table saw by buying the rails from Incra that are made for it. It would still give you 25" rip capacity and if you move your system to the right it would give you even more rip capacity. Except for the room t takes you will love the reputability it gives you. Plus spoiling you. Hope this helps. Bob.

I have a Dewalt Radial Arm Saw, Craftsman 10 inch bandsaw, Shopsmith Mark V, 1973 Craftsman 10 inch table saw, and a Delta 10 inch compound miter saw. All in 108 sq. ft.., I have 36 sq. ft. of assembling space and space that im free to move around in.

Nice video Matt. You seem like a very sharp guy with your organization. The only thing I disagree with is your comments on wanting an Incra tablesaw fence and using it with the router. The reason is that if you get the Incra tablesaw fence you will have to move your tablesaw back to the middle of your shop because it requires so much clearance to the right of your saw. You don't need that much rip capacity if you have a tracksaw. I find that I never need more than 20 inches of rip since I got the tracksaw. In fact I wish my sawstop had less clearance so in can get it closer to the wall. I wanted an Incra tablesaw fence a few years back, but I'm glad I waited. I will post a video on my workshop layout in a few months to explain it. Your video was great. Thanks.
Thanks man, yeah several guys pointed that out to me! It does suck that it takes up so much room. I love the way the incra fence works!
I would put your Band saw against the back wall where your router tables is than line up your router planer along that wall in roll them out when needed.
You could even use your router table as a out feed possible if you raise it up or lower it to match your saw. Or put bad saw where jointer is and jointor where router table is and router table where band saw is but against the wall. if you do longer handsaw rips. I thought I had a small shop you really need to maximize that space. What is the resaw on your Band saw it looks over 12inch?

Wow< my shop is just a wee bit bigger than yours, but I know now how poorly its laid out. Spot on with the table saw, mine is in the middle and constantly in the way. I was saddened when I google your sweet planer, about $2500 out of my budget, but one can dream. I'm in the process of trying to say goodbye to my old, old radial arm saw, to be replaced with a mitre station.
So thanks for the video, and your laid back, down to earth manner. '>)

Yes the tools charged and plugged in ready to use are used much more often (In my shop the Palmsander, Jigsaw, Cordless Drill and Router).

I am also 6'3" and I have a suggestion for your drill press. I have a Ridgid drill press and it is just about the same height as yours. I built a sturdy plywood box/base for it that raised it up a foot off the floor and it much more comfortable for a tall guy to use. Good video and discussion of utilizing available space.

This a a great resource for those of us planning to build a workshop from scratch. I'm going to utilise my single car car garage and would you believe it's smaller than your space. Before I wrote this I checked your channel for a more up to date tour but couldn't find one, but no matter, this is just as informative today as it was nearly 3 years ago. Thanks for sharing. P.S. I don't have this shop anymore, we've since moved and I'm now in a much roomier two car garage. I will however do another tour once I get the shop all setup.

Nice layout for your shop. As far as the Incra for your table saw goes, I have the 32 inch for my table saw. I am in a 10' x 15' shop. the Incra on the table saw was too wide. When you try to open it all the way up, it takes up an incredible amount of space. You are better off with your T-Square style fence on your table saw. I replaced my Incra system for a T-Square style fence. Trying to sell the Incra system now.
