Walking you round my workshop consists of standing still and turning round until you are dizzy! Three years since its inception and the tiny 8x6 workshop has seen some new tools, minor tweaks and major changes. In this video I'll bring you up to date with all the changes that have taken place.
French Cleats, neat battery tricks and nifty organisation hacks help maintain the usability and organisation of the workshop.
Thanks so much for watching. Do subscribe, like, comment and enjoy.

Great video! We have a very similar shop and tastes it seems: I have the same French cleat system, table saw, Bosch jigsaw, screwdrivers - even your mallet looks identical to mine. I did start to drool over the Sorby sharpener though - I always have a hard job to get my gouges as sharp as I like -freehand!
I take great pride in being able to put a razor edge on a chisel by hand (thanks to my high school woodwork teacher some 50+ years ago) but the Sorby does 99% of the work in a fraction of the time leaving me the final lap and strop and it makes the chore of sharpening my various angles on the turning tools a pleasure. It may be worth considering selling a family member to finance the purchase of one :-)
But not the cat! 😧
Before watching your video I was happy to struggle on doing my DIY either in my small shed or outside. I am now a broken depressed and jealous 75yr old man with no DIY future unless I can talk my family into letting me have a 8x6 ft shed and a shed load of tools. Mick Baines.😢.
@@mickbaines4916 I worked at the back of the kitchen out of two tool boxes and using a Black and Decker workmate as a bench for twenty plus years. A lot of equipment is 'nice to have' but not essential. The 8x6 IS still small but I make of it what I can. Adventures can start anywhere regardless of size. Please don't cry bud. Get adventurous. All the best and thanks for watching.
Thanks sooooo much- inspiring and makes me stop whining and get after it-thanks again- Tones
This is the Swiss Army Knife version of a workshop :)
I must have watched at least 200 workshop tours, this is by far the most impressive one I've seen.
This is the first one I've watched. Thanks for saving me time
None better. Meticulous
Agreed. I was whining about my 800 sq ft. This helped a lot.
My shop is 8x16 but it’s nowhere near as well organized. I have a 10x12 outdoor area (concrete with shade).
Erm…. Fleets wood shop tour. You’ll be sick with envy .You’re welcome.
I rewatch this video probably once a year, it's really truly a lovely video
Wow. Just wow. So many clever solutions in this shop. I have been looking for a channel with a very small shop. I have grown tired of those factory-like shops you see on other channels with a separate work station for every task you can think of.
This shop I can much better relate to and draw inspiration from. Thanks!
Many thanks for your comment. At first I was envious of all the large workshops but my little space is so functional and comfortable to work in I doubt I would be at home in a larger space.
This gentleman is a master craftsman, even in the way that he makes his videos. Stop motion photography. Comic line drawings. Well done sir.
The stop motion is HUGELY time consuming and verrry well done!
No comment on the DVD menu music?
Extremely well planned and executed. My wife will not be seeing this one.
Seriously. She won't want you in anything bigger!
Neither will his!……………he built his masterpiece of a workshop on top of her and the police cannot bring themselves to destroying just it to find her!
I seen thousands (feels like it) of DIY videos. This some how was among the most pleasing I seen. Gentle, no hurry, clear and easy vocal and great filming. I enjoyed this so so much
I’m speechless!! I’ve just built a 36 x 16 workshop at home and was wishing I’d made it a bit bigger!!! I feel like a spoilt brat now!! Your workshop is pure genius, can’t believe you can fit all that gear in such a small space - magic!!
Incredible clever practical organization! One of the BEST workshop tour videos ever made. Stop motion, slow pans and dolly shots, good lighting, revealing angles, pleasant sound, clearly narrated. concise yet oddly relaxing... ALL superbly done Sir. A bit of humor here and there is nice too!
Just delightful! Now I am ashamed of my messy cluttered shop, but inspired to improve. THANKS many times!
I came down to comment the same points, so I'll instead just say, "I fully concur!"
Great video. Excellent production. I am building my own, somewhat larger shop, I love your use of French cleats. Very inspiring.
I’m ashamed of my giant mess of a workshop too. Really highlights how organizing is key to a productive shop
Ditto to all your comments
The Most ! Organised ! ARE ! THE LEAST ! PRODUCTIVE !
I have to say that I adore your voice. It’s like a grown up Winnie the Pooh giving us a tour of his modest but excellent workshop.
The way you excitedly identified your sharpening stones had me smiling ear to ear with you.
I’d gladly listen to you narrate early 20th century English children’s stories.
Walker1812 100% Winnie or a Hobbit!
His voice reminded me of nature documentaries, and the background music reminded me of Mr Rogers. Excellent.
Just FULL ! OF ! H.A !!
Here’s me thinking I don’t have enough space, what I don’t have is the ingenuity and imagination.
From the lathe table top to the ‘wasted’ space between the casters, it’s all just a genius use of space.
Thank you sir for the ideas and inspiration, I guess I have to go and re organise my workshop now...
I am extremely inspired by your small shop and organization skills. I’m saving this one!
I don’t know how I got here, but now I want this workshop. I don’t even make anything.
Everything about this is perfect - the organisation, the humour, the video editing details, and of course that shop of dreams. Brilliant work!!
ReCh1299 it’s a masterpiece
Yea this video deserves millions of views, really cool editing and style
Refreshing, we complain all too much about not enough room but your shop is an inspiration about doing more with less. And I don't mean just woodworking.
Wow! Your shop is immaculate. Your eye for detail and all of your storage solutions are so elegant and well done. It is a very inviting shop and I bet it is a joy to work in!
Absolutely brilliant! If my wife saw this she would say, " see!, that man is able to do his woodworking in such a tiny space and you have half of a two car garage and it all so cuttered! "
Anybody else, love the soft piano in the background, also made me want to go and clean my workshop
Anybody know the artist playing the great jazz piano? Or the group? Or anything about them?
Mr. Rogers workshop.
No. Nothing personal, but I hated that music at points. If you dislike jazz, it's far too intrusive & not just background. That aside, iIncredible attention to detail.
@@gamera1962 I got that same Mr. Roger's vibe. It was so nice.
It gave me a, "It's a tiny workshop Charlie Brown" feel.
I crave to be organized in all areas of my life especially with wood projects. It takes me longer to find, put together, or charge something than it does to built the project.
This video really inspires me to get my stuff together..I need to look at it like I’m building an organization space. Yay a project I can start on to help me be more productive.
Thank you for this therapy session. It makes me think of other areas of my life that need order..
everything is perspective. 😁
The ultimate master of organization. All bow down.
I have the opposite system, everything lays on the floor in piles 😁
Its a good system - just memory map where everything is and remember to dump a tool back in the same pile when your done using it :)
That's my system too. I could soon fix the one in the video. One small
project would do it.
That is how a friend of mine keeps his shop. Getting sent in to get a particular tool/wrench is always a treasure hunt. It has been 6 weeks since we've been able to find the dust pan (painted neon green to be easy to see).
That's my system, too!
Sounds like me 😀
I know this is years later, but I wanted to thank you for putting this video together. I'm finally able to have my own shop area after having none before, but it's in a very limited space as well. This has given me a lot of ideas on planning how its layout will be like! Thank you!!
It's like Mr. Roger's Neighborhood for woodworking adults.
I kept thinking this was a workshop owned by Winnie The Pooh, his voice reminds me of Burgess Meredith for some reason.
I had that same thought!
I am so inspired and now can see how I’m going to steal some ideas to save space .
I’ll put things on wheels and won’t put everything out on display along the perimeters.
I’ll put out only the things I would use all the time so everything else can be tucked away until needed .
I’ll also utilise the walls .
I was a wee bit overwhelmed at planning my new space but now I have some ideas . ❤
Steal away Helen. Glad you found the video useful. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. All the best.
This great video makes us all rethink our space.
Apart from the whole thing being great, it's the small things like the fixed pencil sharpener near the pencils.... brilliant.
You noticed that too! lol
Lol i was looking for mine the other day... and i could.not find my basic pencilssharpening either. So went back to the main house and grabbed my mechanical pencil instead.... but this Is my next thing on my shop improvement list 😊
Loved this little workshop tour, very clever not only the ingenious storage and use of space but the stop motion filming is charming.
Great shop! Inspirational utilization of space. I won't cry and moan about my space anymore, but will make a place for everything.
A fantastic lesson for us all. I am truly in awe of your attention to detail, planning and commitment to keep woodworking in such a small shop. As for your video, I found it as soothing as one of those old films we all used to watch on a Sunday afternoon.
Bob Ross paints....
You said exactly what I was thinking
You have done a fantastic job utilisingall of your space properly. No space is wasted. Love your ideas they are really good. They are on another level. I will watch your video again and some of yor ideas I will put into use myself. Thanks again and keep up the good work.
Martin
Totally agree. Such a smart use of available space, that is where you see true creativity
Absolutely Sweet!
it's as well thought out as the International Space Station. Well done my friend.
What if there is a leak?
There are so many small workshop videos on this site that are about shops the size of a garage, which a lot of people don't even have. This is the first "small shop" video I've watched and went yep that's a small shop that has solved small shop problems.
Brilliant! Not are you only good at your organizational skills and crafting But your camera skills are pure genius! Mr. Inspiration you are, carry on...as will I. Thank you
Absolutely love your dust collection system!
As of October 17, 2019 136 professional (paid) "dislikers" have left their mark. They must be getting paid, otherwise who would dislike this video? Fantastic demonstration for economy of space! I may have to rethink my toolshed. Cheers.
Jealousy, or perhaps people with 24sq ft workshops that scoff at the wasted space.
It's to clean, i enjoyed it.
Sir, you are a Master of Organisation. You have set the bar very high for the rest of us. I really enjoyed your video, thanks.
Stunning! Just stumbled across this video and I am blown away. I used to have a 12 x 8 workshop for 15 years which eventually fell apart. With it came a change of garden layout to incorporate a summer house next to it. My new workshop is 10 x 8 which I always felt I have not got 'right' in the current layout. I feel a Spring redesign coming on...
Very well done for such a beautiful and professional video which had me hooked right to the end. I shall now explore other productions.
Thanks mate. There are new videos planned for 2024 also. All the best and thanks for watching. Much appreciated.
Wow. Just built myself a 14x10 feet workshop and thought it maybe too small. You've definitely changed my mind. Can't believe how well thought out yours is. Definitely going to adopt some (or maybe all) of your ideas. Thanks
The magstrip on the ceiling is absolute genius. Don't have to think outside of the box, just be able to utilize all six sides of it's innards.
One thing I love about your video is you showcasing the value and importance of vertical storage space. There are too many places and people only making use of horizontal or lower height storage
Love your, 90% real life woodworkers, work space!!! Great video!!!!
Awesome! You inspire me to be better organised. I’ve no excuses for a lack of space holding me back on a project.
“Carbon neutral jointer”
Lol never heard it put that way
Stop motion in a tool shop is seriously next level stuff, such a good little shop, I have one too with everything on the wall, a man needs his shed.
now that is superior organization! Simply Brilliant!
My shop looks like a crime scene compared to this.
Mine is a crime scene! The tornado gang came and went!
Haha
Many years ago, a buddy worked at a local PD that retired old crime scene signs (replaced with yellow plastic tape)....He gave me one that I posted right behind my garage door ["Crime Scene--Keep Out"], so is visible to passersby when door open....Half of garage is workshop full of clutter at this time.....Still gets laughs....
Would've cleaned up mess years ago, but am lucky enough to have a large woodshop in my community that I belong to and have access 7 days/week [$15/yr].....Once garage is cleaned up, I guess the crime scene sign will need to be posted outside my bedroom closet.... ;o)
@Tennessee Charles Your comment tells a lot about you and absolutely nothing about Stephen. Do you really belief that he is out to get you by having an organised workshop? And why do you feel like he just did it to show the world how messy our place is? Seriously? :)
Most probably do..
Had to subscribe your doing in 48 square feet what I struggle to organise into 100 I'm very very impressed.
This is unbelievable. I thought my 10x16 Amish built tool shed was organized. But this as demoralizing.
What a genius you are. You should be knighted and called “Sir”. You inspired me to do a better job in my massive shop.
I wont complain about having a small garage anymore ! Nice relaxed video ! Thanks.
Oh my, all of that is genius. Hoping to get my workshop sorted after so many years of storing rubbish items "just in case". You have inspired me to get it all together, sorted and available rather than wondering where the heck something is! Thank you for posting!!
Sir, that is an amazing shop in such a small space. It brings to light the adage of "A place for everything and everything in its place." Three years of planning, I think, have paid off.
Hi Steven
When I saw your video I felt I had been transported to a heavenly place. A state of Zen like calm settled onto my mind.
Quite apart from the exacting order you have set in the space,...your calm soothing voice together with the gentle tinkling of " the ivories " in the background rested me in a profoundly peaceful place. To find myself nesstling in the embrace of so much delicious hardware and ingenious storage solutions was very comforting. A vision of what crafting life can be.
thank you, thank you, thank you sir !
You’re right Stephen, it’s tiny alright but I really like the way you have overcome the idea of being able to move items to other places. Cool.
I would be glad to leave a comment:
The best small shop I've ever had the privilege of see.
hey, thanks Rag, that means a lot buddy. Stay well mate :-)
The voice, the music, the episode - everything is perfect! Thanks a lot!
You are a genius! Take a bow!
ha ha, thanks clarwash. Thanks for watching :-)
Oh. My. GAWD!!!! This is absolutely incredible, impressive & inspirational. I’m in awe!
Great to see what ingenuity and a bit of discipline can accomplish.
Small is beautiful! What an extraordinary, cosy, hand built, human-scale man cave!
I love the mellow nature of your video, this is the first one I've seen! You also show that with a bit of effort in thinking and customising storage anything can work. I truly am blown away by how much you've got in!
Wallace and Gromit meet Rob Cosman, LOL! A beautiful shop, ingenious storage systems, brilliant putaways.
This is the smallest but smartest workshop I've ever seen, definitely my favourite!! 👍👍👍
Ingenious storage! Great small workshop; thanks for letting us have a look around👍🏻
Yeah. Literally look 'around'. Don't even have to move your feet. What a concept. 😁👍
This workshop is imprint in my mind instead of a big workshop. You manage your space very effective sir!!
Apart from the awesome workshop and compressor joke the other noticeable thing about this video is no pretentious crap about the size of the 'shop' and what's been achieved with all the free machinery and tools. Love it!
Sir, you are such an inspiration ! I'm currently building a shed for storage and work shop. I will use many of your ideas to organize the place. A dream coming true. 63 year's old woman from Québec 🇨🇦
My first jewellery making workshop was a 6ft x 8ft garden shed with a calor gas heater for winter. I had no problem doing all my work in there for a couple of years when starting out and it’s surprising how fast you adapt to a tiny workspace.
Thank you for sharing every hobbyist dream workshop. A welding machine would complete it even more.
Genuis Sir! No wasted movement, no wasted space and no seldom used tools taking up space. Just Simply Brilliant! A+
Well done! I picked up some amazing tips and ideas for my 10’ x 20’ shop, which now seems quite mammoth indeed.
Either you’re crazy, or you’re brilliant.
I’m going to say you are “crazy brilliant”
Amazing attention to detail. Well done Steve.
Your shop and sense of humor put me at ease. You've made it just right.
Warm regards
Jennie
Your voice reminds me of David Attenborough.
'Watch how the grasshopper gleefully dances on the French cleat while the praying mantis gets sucked up the wet/dry vac.' lol
Greetings from California. Well done sir you have truly maximized your space!
I was so excited to see your video pop into my feed...great shop review...so nice to have you back...hope you are able to post again soon. 🇨🇦👍🙂
Thanks for watching mate. More video's in the pipeline :-)
Brilliant use of space, everything you want, neat and tidy.
By far the most beautiful Workshop i've ever seen!
You've got as many tools as me but almost a quarter of the space. Great utilisation of a space. A new sub is your reward. Thanks for letting us look round
I'm fighting for space with a third the tools in four times the space. You might have changed my life - my late father would have loved this video. Many thanks!
Thank you Ryan for releasing a great product as this [ Check Details Here?> *WoodBlueprints. Com* ]. Most of the plans I have imagined in my mind are put down on your woodworking plans. This is more like a genius job. I love it!?
And I fought I was organized! Impressive job on not only on organizing but on the neat look of all the supports and tricks to fit everything.
I’ve never seen such an efficient use of space sir
Necessity is the mother of invention (ha ha). Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. All the best mate
This is a great video! Don't think I could ever be this organised though.
Hi Stephen I was at King’s Lynn Men’s Shed this morning and was talking about your video and played it for all to see, you now have a lot more fans 😂😂😂
Excellent use of space.
I need to stop complaining about the limited space in my tiny apartment.
Phenomenal use of space. I am left in awe and inspired. Thank you for sharing, kind sir.
I feel like I'm listening to a National Geographic nature special watching this - but I'm also beyond impressed!
JUST AMAZING...such innovation and organisation for such a small space, which makes it look and feel much bigger. Thanks for sharing.
With that level of organisation, you must be successful in life.
I subscribed to see what kinds of projects such a clever shop could turn out.
Amazing, you're giving me so much inspiration for my 7x11 partial garage!
The stop motion is a real treat as well!
Its amazing. I can't imagine how much time you spent working this out! I'm sure part of it was a process. Its an inspiration as I rethink my 11'x 14'
I'm moving on to a narrowboat soon and have been thinking about how to build a workshop on it. Your ingenious design fits almost perfectly into the 5 x12 space I'll have so thank you very much for the inspiration!
Later, he builds a larger shop underground and this shop is a stealthy elevator to the main shop.
He should team up with colin furze.
@@andrewcross5918 Colin would drive him insane..
Hi! You're little shop is one of the best use of space I have ever seen. Thanks for sharing.
Love your workshop tour ... it's amazing how well organised you are in such a little 8 x 6 space ... you have given me some good ideas for my workshop, mine is 14ft x 8ft and all I can do is stand in the doorway lol .... I'm a bit of a hoarder... I hold onto every bit of wood & metal ... I'm going to get a second smaller shed so I can store all my bulky stuff and materials in to create space in my big shed ... I'm going to use some of your ideas to get organised... thanks for your shop tour video 😀👍
The level of organisation and efficiency is just amazing. Everything is functional and all easy to access. 👏 this sets a really high standard of order we could all work towards achieving in our cluttered chaotic lives. What a example 👍
Thanks for the shout out for Tales from The Tinkerage!
Your 'shop is an inspiration!
You're welcome Andy. Thanks for watching mate :-)
for people like me coming from a cramped country like India and where extra space comes at a hefty premium what you have shown in your video is heaven on earth. Excellent organisational skills you have and the way you explained is real masterclass.
I accidentally came across your video. I don't even know what some of the tools you show are for, but it was fascinating, and a bit frightening, to see how neatly and perfectly executed your storage system is. In awe.
