    This is what I consider the most efficient layout of my workshop for the work that I do. The main issue for me is storing and managing full sheets of plywood to turn into furniture. It is what I would consider a near perfect setup for me. Yes, it gets very messy very quick. And yes, it gets very cramped in here at times. But it forces me to be smart with my processes and be as efficient as possible.

      When I say I have no space, I mean I live in an apartment building lol. Can't run a tablesaw in my bedroom with neighbors on all sides. Some people literally have no space for a woodshop. Hopefully will move into a place with a garage soon though! This video will come in handy then.

    I am very very very new to woodworking, but i've loved CAD/3DS max and making things with those just because i personally enjoy doing it, and i've been second guessing that decent products could be made from plywood, but this really changed my mind about that completely. Its super cool to see whats possible with limited tools and limited space!

    Hey! Great to see another chapter from Off Cuts. Small space efficiency is an art unto itself. My shop is a small single car garage that I still park in when there's not a project underway. My solution was mobile shop stationary tool cabinets. They all nest against the walls. No space for material so I buy what I need for each build. Glad to see you've survived the zombie apocalypse!

    I take a similar approach to my work ute, I’m a one man band sparky and work out of 1800x1800 tool box canopy. You just have to use the space wisely and carry/order what you need at the time for the next job. I find the smaller the space the more organised you are and time management is improved.

    I have watch you building your shop for a while and it really is laid out well. I would like to give you one suggestion that will make cutting full sheets of plywood very easy in your small shop. I built a panel saw cutting system that hold the sheet at 12 degrees to allow me to cut it easily in any direction. I built the detachable pieces to mount (in under 2 minutes) to my garage door (when down) and also modified it to mount to my 52" tablesaw (several videos). If you watch the first one ("cutting plywood in a small shop"), I think you will be able to take the idea and modify a system to work in your shop as well. Cutting plywood sheets is so easy now for me, I think you will find it can work for you too. Keep up the great videos and stay safe :>)

    bumped into this channel as you do wandering about on youtube! Some great ideas. My garage workshop is almost identical to yours being a small 1950's house in the UK. I have to have a full walk through as no side access to garden (dim 1950's builders) I have replaced the up and over garage door with an electric shutter and have installed a 2.5 metre electric awning outside that allows a bit more rain free cover. Will explore your other videos….. oh yes like your idea for a temp saw horse workbench, ive pencilled a make for one of these as I have 1/2 doz of these cheap gizmos.

    • @TheOffcut
      @TheOffcut  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey thanks! I also have a back door to access the back garden. But have blocked it off with the plywood cart. But easy enough to wheel it out of the way if I ever need to get to it. The awning sounds great. Unfortunately my driveway is on a slope so it's not that practical to work on it.

    Talk about making the most of what you have! It's funny how we live in this spacious, relatively sparsely populated country yet so many of us have small workshops. Having said that I think you've proven that 6 x 3 is enough to make it work - and making a living off it at that! 👍

    • @TheOffcut
      @TheOffcut  Před 2 lety

      Thanks Rob! Efficiency is a big factor in a workshop or any work environment for me. I've seen huge workshops that were so badly laid out that there was so much dead space that made the shop seem half the size. But I think bigger spaces can be a bit of a trap in thinking that you have lots of space so you can just put stuff anywhere and eventually lose half of your workshop haha.

    • @TakamiWoodshop
      @TakamiWoodshop Před 2 lety

      @@TheOffcut Yeah and I think being tidy (or not) is a big factor in efficiency and that's where bigger spaces can start to seem much smaller and become quite dysfunctional. Layout, flow, and process are probably more important to success than anything. (success = ability to output to standard within time constraint in this case)
