    This is a great tour and giving me so many ideas. Thank you...I think. :) I am overhauling the workshop I inherited from my father. It has 2 walls of upper and lower cabinets with countertop, like a kitchen, 1 wall with the furnace and hot water heater, and 1 wall with a work bench under a peg board system. He also made heavy wooden boxes for all of his tools which makes storing them difficult. I love your cubbies for your sanders and such.

    • @EveningWoodworker

    This was great, thanks for sharing your shop tour. I have an almost identically sized garage I’m struggling to create a shop from, and yours is the first video I’ve seen where a “one car garage” shop wasn’t at least 4-8 feet wider than mine in at least one dimension. Seeing what you did with such a similar space was really helpful. 👍🏼

    Great tour! I have a similar setup (including your miter station, thank you 👍👍). Best decision I made was to build a partition wall to enclose the third car bay. It keeps the dust off the cars and out of the house, and it’s another wall to hold wood racks, place additional plugs, etc. It will be fun to watch your shop evolve in years to come. Cheers!

  • @chrismoody1342
    @chrismoody1342 Před 2 lety

    Great setup for the limited space allowed. This is timely as I just built my long desired chop saw station. I’ve made it where the saw lifts out on a plywood base and can be exchanged with my router table and also mortiser also mount on plywood. Both tools require different heights to take advantage of the wing extensions. Plus the base cabinet now allows me to store the router and morticer instead of being on my bench top or on the floor. It is a huge improvement in my shop as the chop saw station and wings are at the same height as my table saw so I can support sheets of sheet goods as I run them. It’s a bit difficult to make everything work as I also have to store also the mower, spreader, lawn tools, 4 bicycles, 2 motorcycles and misc other pieces associated with a wood shop.and still fit at least 1 car. Wish I could build a dedicated wood shop out back but that would be a budget buster.

  • @davidamoody
    @davidamoody Před 3 lety

    Well done, I'm getting ready to build a woodworking workshop, and I've found this video to be the most helpful so far. I have a 3m by 12m yard, so not a lot of space, and I need to maximise the garden space too, so I'm planning a small workshop about 2.5x1.5m plus a 1m veranda on the front with roof over it. My idea is to make it look like a garden shed out of Anne of Green Gables, so that I complements and enhanced the garden while I side I have my workshop. The front 2m wall will have double doors opening outwards so that when I'm working I can make use of the covered veranda as additional workflow space, and by making the doors solid with heavy hinges I plan to permanently mount on their inside so that when the doors are open and anchored back those tools are available to use outside in the veranda. I think this will maximise work space and garden space at the same time. What do you think?

    • @EveningWoodworker
      @EveningWoodworker  Před 3 lety +2

      Yes that's the point of the shop tour! It's to give people ideas of what they can do in their shop. Good luck!

  • @ReferenceFidelityComponents

    You call that a small shop?!!!
    That's a sizeable space I'd give my back teeth for. Still, you have clearly put a lot of thought and care into it and have some great tools there. Great job!
    That's not small though. Try 8x15. That's all I have for a professional shop.
    The only way to work in such a small space is to be creative. Dust collection put outside in it's own enclosure with the hose taken through the workshop. Wall space completely utilised.
    Love your flip top idea. Will use that one. Also like your folding assembly table idea.
    Agree that the table saw takes pride of place. I've upgraded my contractor saw to a larger cast iron table with a sliding mitre table. It takes up half my workshop space.
    Timber storage is external. As long as it is a dry well ventilated space it's fine.
    Smallest professional shop I've seen was 7x8ft! It had dust collection, a router table and a good bench saw in it as well as a 6ft long workbench!

      It's always impressive to me to see the small shops people have and how they make it work. It's more important to maximize your space no matter the size! Good luck in your shop

    Good layout for wood working. I like the central aisle and benches along the sides. Great use of available storage.
    My garage shop has just enough room to pull my truck into. It fits like a knife in a sheath. 😆
    Woodworking is in the basement with the sheet and board rough cutting in the garage. It also is the welding and cutting area. Bandsaws, wood and cutoff. Welders, stick, MIG, + TIG. Cutting torch and plasma. I had hopes for setting up a larger shop in a barn but it's not happening.
    I ended up with most of the working garage tools on wheels. Not Ideal. I'm always spending more time putting away and getting out than I am working.

      Yeah that's a tough situation. I gave up on parking my car in the garage so my wife could have hers in there and I could have a shop. I don't have to fit welders in there though. Good luck!

      @@EveningWoodworker It could be worse. 😆
      I have a shop that is airconditioned in the summer and hested in thevwinter and I don't have to scrape the truck widows. 😆
      I do like your setup though. 😆😎

    Loved the shop tour, and the ideas. Fortunately for me, I was able to take over the garage which is a 2 car garage. When I say that, I also say that with a grain of salt, as there are still things that are hers that still require some of the space. I'm working on that. Love the layout, and really liked the idea of a main alley for in and out of the garage itself. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos as you gained a new sub. Keep up the great work.

    Very encouraging. I have a little more but you would never know it. It's a mess and I've been laboring how the shop should flow. You gave me inspiration. Thanks for sharing. I'm your next new subscriber.

      @@EveningWoodworker totally being facetious. But definitely a nice shop. I don't have a shop. I do not really like working indoors. Seems i am destined to build one or enclose my work space in self defense. A robin layed 4 eggs in my markers box. Some other bird layed five in my glue cubby ontop of the various glue bottles. And i just found 4 or 5 baby rabbits in a hole under my drill press.

    very well organized small shop. Subscribed!
    My shop is the same size (11x25) and even though it's not particularly cluttered yours just looks larger - and I realized why. I only have a 7 ft ceiling height. Man I wish I at least had the height you do (but then there's someone out there who wishes they had 275sf workshop). That height you have will allow you to install a proper cyclone dust collector and it won't sacrifice too much space either - less than a 3x3 footprint plus ducting you might have to do along the walls. The good thing about that over the bag dc you have (besides filtration) is that it stays put and doesn't get in the way. That's why I made mine and installed it in the corner rather than deal with having to roll a bag dc around the shop from tool to tool. That would have been painfully annoying to me in my small workshop. The one I made years ago is modeled after the Bill Pentz design for a cyclone, but I had to make it short and stout to fit under my ceiling and still have decent separation. So if you haven't gotten a cyclone yet, check out the Bill Pentz design and maybe do a build video on it. It's not that difficult to do. I recently did a quick review video of my cyclone (check that out if you want), but I made it pre-YT days so I don't have a build video on it. I'm glad to offer advice along the way of the build if you want.

      Yes Bill Pentz is the King of Dust Collection!... that is definitely on the to do list. I've read a lot of his stuff on it and I can appreciate his testing and research. I'll check out yours when I'm ready! Thanks for the sub!
