  • Watch me scratch build a palisade fortification for my Dungeons and Dragons tabletop game! I use wood, foam, craft paint, hot glue, and flocking to make this scatter terrain.

    I love these builds because I always come away thinking "hey! I can do that!" and as a beginner coming away from tutorial videos with that mind set is a great feeling. They look so good and are not overly intimidating!

      Thanks for watching! I'm hoping to launch a patreon page for the channel soon! I would be able to host build challenges and feature patron's work! Not to mention giveaways too, my bookshelves are getting full!

      Thank you for the feedback! I need to put together a list of what I use in the video descriptions. It doesn't need to be an affiliate link or anything but it would be a good resource.

      Thanks for watching! I'm hoping to post a few pictures on Instagram of all the pieces together so far. I need a few more rocky outcroppings and trees. Maybe the next build will be something along those lines?

    Hit the thumbs up before I even watched it because I already knew it was going to be good. The watchtower is one of my favorite builds of yours. So awesome that you decided to make an excellent piece even better.

      Thanks! I really appreciate your feedback and support! I set everything out and felt like the terrain needed some connections. I may need to spend a video making smaller scatter stuff like boulders and clumps of trees.

    Happy little mistakes! I love the down to earth, small scale projects. This is something anyone can try, not some insane megalomaniacal project :) still loving the vibe! Keep it up!

      Thank you for watching! I always loved how Bob Ross could create a beautiful scene in under 30 minutes! These builds take a lot longer than that but he didn't have to wait for paint (except gesso) and glue to dry! My work as a blacksmith is all fire, sweat, and hammers so I like to downshift with the terrain builds. This hobby is so fun and acessable with just a few supplies!

    Great piece. Weathering the wood palisade may be in order if it's been in place long enough for moss to grow on it.

    • @ravenstead
      @ravenstead  Před rokem +1

      Thank you for the feedback! I will have to find a way to create a weathering effect on the wood. Maybe a grey wash or dry brushing.

    • @ravenstead
      @ravenstead  Před rokem

      Thank you for watching! I would love to know how you fit your modular pieces together. My bases always get in the way! I'm thinking I need smaller pieces of scatter terrain like boulders, stumps, and trees to block gaps.

    • @10urion
      @10urion Před rokem

      @@ravenstead My palisades are on the more fortified side.
      I took a piece of XPS 4" long, ~1" wide and 1" tall. On the front I glued my palisade posts after engraving the back, left and right with a brick pattern. On top I glued stir sticks as boards and the bottom was left as is.
      I also made some corner pieces which are the same as the regular just that the posts also wrap around either the left or the right side of the XPS.
      For bases, I glued craft sticks under it lining up with the back, left and right but with a little overhang to the front so that I could place some greenery and rubble.
      that way I could place the pieces "flush" against each other. I have some minor gaps from unclean cuts but no one notices

    I was half way through my work day when this dropped. Made me smile and gave me something to look forward to. Great build! I'd love to see you make something meant for the interior, even if it's the interior of a ruined cottage or a hags hut so you can still use your washes. Old furniture, books, doors, a cauldron, etc. with moss and other plants growing in or on them. Might give you something you can branch into without breaking from the skills you've mastered:) anyway, loved this as usual!

    You might want to consider getting some paving sand and play sand to mix up in a tub, putting that as a layer underneath the flocking tends to give a more natural look to the ground.
