Hey good folks! I hope you enjoy this weeks video where I craft some an old-looking mossy stone bridge! This one works perfect with my modular rivers I did a couple of videos back! This bridge was designed with gameplay in mind so there are plenty of covers, elevated positions and of course characters can actually stand on the slopes! I am happy with how this one came out! Stay safe out there folks! Lots of love and thank you for being the most awesome community a Viking can have! 💙💛💙
D&d party: we blow up the bridge!
DM: so you have chosen death...
HAHAHAHA! So bloody true! But you did give me an idea for a video! ;)
20:18 that moss looks fantastic, thank you for the inspirations.
Thank you so much! My pleasure! 👍😊
Nooooooo Leif! Now I feel like I MUST pick up a hot wire table. Looks incredible my friend, you truly are a skilled craftsman. Thank you for continuing to make vids despite the hard times. Cheers!
Haha! Yeah sorry about that but the Proxxon hotwire foam cutter is super nice if you are crafting terrain and feel comfortable with xps foam! Thank you for the continued support! 💙
I don't think it's a 'must', a lot of these can be done with a box knife and patience, but what a hot wire table does is let you make cuts repeatedly and accurately. That being said, you won't feel your money wasted if you do pick up a hot wire table.
This is seriously badass! It's amazing how some goofy blue foam can be transformed with some texture, some paint, and some organic effects to develop such a wonderful looking piece of hard terrain! I love your work!
Thank you so much Carlo! I know right, that why when I get the first coat on I become super inspired! Everything looks the same and all of the sudden you look more at the shapes more than the color! Thank you so much for this nice comment! :)
Gorgeous!
Thank you so much Jonatan! Happy you like it! I am so excited to build more human-built structures! 😂👍
This could be a movie prop it was so realistic.
Hahahaha! Thank you kindly Dirtnastyish! 👍😁
Love it! Thanks for sharing it!
Glad you enjoyed it Dindrane W! Thanks for watching and commenting! 👍😊
A troll must live under such a bridge. And with so much greenery, he can become a vegetarian while waiting for a traveler.
Hahahahaha! Agreed Junker! 👍 😂
Looks great!
Thanks James!
Another great video, glad you’re back.
Thank you kindly! More to come, just don't know at what cadence! :D
What is this!? A viking building bridges! Ahh i get it now, you are building a bridge so you can burn it later. Respect, way to think ahead. Nice to have you back, ive missed your vids bro.
😂
Hahahaha! Of course Christer! That was exactly what I was thinking! ;) Thanks man, and I have missed you guys! :)
Looks amazing. I love the chaotic and natural look.
Thank you kindly! Yeah I really wanted to have it look somewhat worn over the centuries, that way my players can ask themselves if it's safe as well! ;)
Great looking bridge. Love all the mossy detail.
Thank you so much! I agree, the moss really elevated the bridge from just being a grey structure! :)
Absolutely incredible my friend. My mind was blown by the final results. I can't wait to see more.
Thank you so much!! Yeah there will be more to come for sure! :)
This is a stunning build! Love it, so subscribed and going to work through your channel. Great work!
Welcome aboard Ken! Happy you found my channel! Thanks for the kind words! 👍🙂
That is a great looking bridge!
Thank you kindly Warren! :D
To cross the mighty river outside of Westerholm hold, there are but two ways, brave its waters powerful and bold or cross the ancient bridge of old...just be sure to pay the 25 gp toll or else your Leif will be a risk as you face the mighty bridge troll....
Excellent video Leif! As always of course and I am glad to see you back!
Haha! There does seems to be a troll in the future :D Thanks man! Happy to be back! :)
Looks fantastic! love seeing your river terrain develop over time! The bridge was a fantastic touch, great detail and rather quite simple! well done.
Cheers Dominic! The simpler the better in many ways! :)
we love you leif! It is always a joy watching your videos
Thank you so much Heath for saying so! I really have the best supporters! 😭
This looks so good! Just found your channel the other day and been binge watching. Amazing work, thanks for making your videos!

Awesome stone bridge
Thank you so much Larry! 👍😃
gorgeous i! definitely putting this on my todo
Thank you! You should! One never knows when you're in need of a bridge! 👍😅
Wow, really well done! When quarantine lifts and I can host my dnd games this is making an appearance for sure!
That's sounds like an awesome plan Archfrank! And I have to say that I have a similar one! 🤣
Nice looking bridge, love it, Thanks for show and plans
My pleasure Michael E! Glad you like it! 👍🙂
This was awesome

I love the style of the video, and the style of the scatter! Entertaining, and looks great.
Thanks you so much Shane! I am glad you like it! :D
Not gonna lie.... I paint miniature village houses and dollhouses. I also played D&D computer games and MMORPG for decades and love this esthetic.
I found you because I like to add scenery to my miniature dollhouse villages.
Love your work. You make me laugh. Take good care of yourself.
Hey Tammy! I am glad you found my channel! That sounds like good fun to me! Thank you for the nice words and you take care as well! :)

Amazing build once again mate. Love your work!
Thanks Shawn! Did you see that you made a guest appearance!? :D
@@DevsDice yes I did! Thank you for that mate.
Very nice one! The flock part give an amazing result.
Thank you very much Louis Girard! 👍😊
Honestly sir, I just discovered your channel and I can't believe that you do not have more subscribers, I will definitely share your work!
Thank you so much Ivan for saying so! And thank you so much for sharing! Also, welcome to the channel Ivan! 👍💙💛💙
Nice one, making the bricks individually as opposed to just scoring the foam adds such a better effect, love how this turned out!
Thank you! I totally agree! Personally I prefer the individual bricks when one wants a more worn-down look? Scoring them from one piece does automagically look more neat!
Super nice
Thank you so much Jörg! 👍😊
best builder on YT
Oh my goodness Bartek Kucharski!! You honor me so much by saying so. Thank you so much! 👍💙💛💙
Very nicely made.
Thank you so much Atom Taylor! 👍😊
I subscribed just for the intro, it was glorious.
Thank you so much! 👍🤣
This is a really cool build! Looks great and very realistic. Love the techniques.
Thank you so much Ianruff! 👍😊
wow that looks awesome it looks like a real bridge
Thank you so much! 👍🙂
Wow, yours is now officially my favorite channel :D
Oh wow! Thank you so much TT Gwen! That makes me very happy to hear! 💙💛💙
Top notch, mate. I discovered your channel only recently and really like it. I hope you continue to make content for 28mm terrain. Thanks for the inspiration! Cheers, --Bo
Thank you so much! Yeah I will! My cadence might be a bit on and off but I will! :)
I love your style. I wish you and Black Magic Craft would do a collaboration together.
Thank you so much Eiloccorb! I appreciate it! Regarding the collab between me and Black Magic Craft we shall see what the future holds! 🙂
Fantastic. It's lovely 😍
Thank you so much Marvin! 👍😊
Awesome bridge it looks really good and realistic. It also compliments the river quite nicely. The cracked earth under the bridge is also a nice touch I really like the way your board is coming together
Cheers Eric! I appreciate it a lot! 💙💛💙
Wow what an amazing piece. I just found your channel a couple days ago. It's very fun to watch your videos and learn from.
Thank you so much Charles! That is music to my ears! Thanks for telling me! 👍😀 Oh and welcome to the channel! 👍💙💛💙
So, I only found your channel recently buuuuut, love your enthusiasm dude. Keep rocking
Welcome to the channel Jonathan! I will do my best but this is only a hobby for me! 👍😅
Cool.
Cheers Jeffrey! 👍😃
Man I love your intros, they crack me up. And I love your videos, very inspiring. You have a sub from me! 😁🤓
That's great to hear! I try my best to entertain! :D Thank you so much for the sub! 💙💛💙
A great video, as always. I agree with your desire to build a bridge that can easily accommodate multiple minis for a gaming table or just a cool display piece. I’ve only just started doing terrain, and while some parts can be boring (waiting for Mod Podge or glue to dry), other aspects are therapeutic (gluing bricks together like LEGO). I love the attention to detail with the flock and scattered tufts, as it really adds that extra realism. I’m glad that you are doing better and look forward to seeing your future videos. Be well and safe, Leif. ✌️🤓
Thanks Ronald! I am trying my best to push forwards and you all help me with your kindness and support! 💙
Overbrush.. the painting is so nice...i learned a lot from this video..thnx!. Hold on stay strong in your personal life
Thank you so much Edwin! Always happy when people "get something" from my videos! Thank you kindly and the same to you! 👍🙂
Wish I could like this video twice! Amazing work
Wow, thanks! I really appreciate that Jacob! More terrain videos will be coming! ;)
Can't wait
It's coming out tomorrow at 12:00 Swedish time! ;)
As a beginner you've really teaching me a lot. I'm slowing get all the tools and things I need. Learning all the tips you have have saved alot of time and money!
Thank you so much Stone Slate! Makes me very happy to hear that the videos I make come to good use! 👍💙💛💙
Realized I missed this somehow, so my daughter and I enjoyed this while building some LOL doll furniture with Legos.
Great job as always and looking forward to the next video!
Thanks Blake! Haha! That sounds like a grand old time! :D
Holy sh-crap! HAHAHAHA! Another excellent build, Leif!
Cheers Kurt! Happy you liked it! :)
Fantastic! quite a unique and beautiful bridge. I enjoyed watching you make it.
Thank you so much William! I see at least three more bridges in my near future! 👍😉
@@DevsDice , I am now making a 1/25th scale graveyard. I fashioned 8 tombstones out of Super Sculpey. I am using styrene foam laid on a 9x12 frame for the base of the diarama. I am making an old twisted dead tree for the far end of the diorama. And I am making a 1/25th Grim Reaper to be standing at the old rusty gate at the front of the peice.
I have been doing dioramas since my days as a special effects artist in film in the 1980s. I was on a project for Disney/WED that built a huge diorama for a motion control flyover that was built in an aircraft hanger at Burbank Airport. It was about 75 yards long, and around 30 feet wide. I was in charge of all of the vegitation I had two model makers working under me and I designed the manufacture of several hundred miniature cacti, plus scrub bush and a stand of eucalyptus trees near the front of the diorama. Eucalyptus has a very interesting bark that can be in various colors. I used the brownish gray peeling kind. The trees were twisted wire with the trunk and large limbs made of building up hot glue to sculpt the body of the woody parts. You can use a wood burner to detail the bark. Now with my hero trees I use the hotglue to do the basic shapes and then go back with a layer of Skulpey to do finer sculpting of the bark on most types of trees. I use #3 steel wool for the fine branches. I developed these techniques back during that original diorama project, and still use them for my hobby work to this day.
Sorry for the length of my reply, I don't have anyone nearby anymore to talk shop with. I can show you pictures of some of my work if you would like. My email is whittw47@gmail.com
Love to hear from you
best work i´ve seen bro👌👍💪, a great inspiration for me
Happy to hear that! Thank you kindly Jan Turza! 👍😊
I'm surprised you dont have more subscriber than this. Just discovered your channel and I can't stop watching.
Haha! Thank you so much! Well not sure what to say to be honest but at least it's going in the right direction! :D
Big fan of the practical angles of the bridge and I've always prefered the look of individual bricks to cut in patterns. Its more work but totally worth it!
Totally agree on all accounts! Thanks man! :)
that looks so stone like and nice!
Thank you so much David! :)
i just realized that "stone like" probably is a swenglish language construct:D
Haha! Well lucky I am somewhat fluent in Swedish right? ;)
Ahhh the PVA + Flocking for moss! I first learned that technique from Black Magic Craft and oh my god is it ever incredible in the results it gets. And it's so true, it looks like total butts at first, but after it dries, it's much much tamer than expected and looks far less intense in the green.
Haha that is true! Yeah there are plenty of things that first look a bit off but one must trust the process! :)
I love this guy!
Me deu uma tremenda ideia para algumas peças que estou planejando para os jogos do meu irmão e amigos nossos. Muito obrigado
Thank you so much! That's awesome! Glad it helped! 👍😊
Dang sweet it is.
Thank you kindly Garth! 👍😊
Man, you’ve done it again. Bloody brilliant. A pleasure to watch you work. 👊🏻
Oh, and ”Leif always find a way.” - made my day! 😂🙌🏻🤘🏻
Haha! Thank you so much! Happy that someone picked that one up! ;)
I agree. It was cheeky but well executed.
For such good bridge you need a river trol,l to live under it. There was a very nice set of river troll's in WarHammer FB. Highlands miniatures has very similar set for 3d Printing.
Hahahaha! Thanks for the tip! 👍😊
Great video. Lots of great tips and tricks in it!
But, just for future reference/knowledge: You don't get single layers of stone like this, simply because putting any sideways force on it (like someone leaning on it) would knock it all over. When you make stone walls, make them a lot thicker than you think. The minimum should be two stone bricks wide and if you do that you'll want some stone bricks that are turned 90° to cross the two stones and tie the two together. Drystone walls are thicker still and tend to taper out at the bottom a bit. They normally look neat and flush on the outside, but if they broken open, there should be a cavity full of higgledy piggledy stone that almost looks messy. This is just because the main focus is on the outside, so builder would use stones that are specifically cut to look right. But on the inside any stones can be used as long as they fit tightly together, so the shapes on the inside wouldn't necessarily be uniform. The same is true of castle walls and stone bridges. Even modern brickwork follows a similar set of rules, except now we fill the middle with insulation, moisture barriers, etc.
My recommendation is that I think your builds would be massively improved by watching some videos on historical architecture building techniques and building dry stone walls as it's a fundamental building technique that carries through to all other brick and stone building. As a minimum we should all be thinking "where's the load going?" when building. Sure if it's a magical structure or something from Mordheim where it's still standing by impossible means, ignore all this. But generally speaking if you think, "where is the load going? Does the weight get transferred all the way to the ground?" If it doesn't, it's going to look wrong. Every brick needs to transfer it's weight down to the ground and transfer it's weight sideways into other bricks if it's going to have a sideways force placed upon it. Think about the Keystone in an archway. If you keep those basic rules in mind while building, you'll get far more believable and grounded structures built.
Anyway, it looks great! Hopefully my suggestions help you in future builds.
Thank you kindly for the insight! 👍😊
Awesome bridge Leif! You are the first crafter that I have seen mod podge coating the undersides! A man after my own heart!
Haha! Glad someone noticed! Sharp eyes on you there Tim! 👍 Thanks for the nice comment man! 🤘
@@DevsDice had a meeting earlier and never got a chance to finish the video, just watched the last bit now. You are (along with Eric's Hobby Shop) one of the best crafters and sadly also with such a small viewership. Keep at it please, you deserve to hit the big time with subscribers, you are personable, talented, funny and intelligent. Your techniques are innovative and you don't have the ego some others creators have. Anyway, best wishes Leif! I know things will turn around for you!
Wow! Thank you so much for saying to Tim! 😰 I will try my best! 😅
@@DevsDice do or do not, there is no try (🤷🏻♂️sorry I had to do that!)
I do agree though, and I will do. :)
Ah Ha!!! Now I know how I found your channel.. RFD Hobby inspired me to build my Raiders Fortress and since watching LOTS of the content from his channel I believe CZcams directed me to you and your builds are TOP NOTCH SIR!!!
Currently I’m Covid sick and have been watching LOTS of your builds waiting to get back into my workshop to continue building up my Post Apocalyptic world and this bridge is going to be my next project! It’ll be a little different because it’s in a futuristic Post Apocalyptic world but the concept will still be the same!
Thanks for the inspiration and until the next time Happy Crafting 🤙
Ah welcome to the channel Matt! Happy you found my channel and thank you so much for your kind words. I hope you get better soon! 👍💙💛💙
Quibble - moss grows on the north side of the tree AKA location of moss is more realistic if applied in a directional manner.
Otherwise fantastic work that surpasses anything I could do.
Thanks Marc for that tip! Will take it into consideration! 👍🙂
wow man, I’m stunned. This looks 100% gorgeous. I’ve been watching a lot of bridge tutorials for inspiration, but the practicality and playability of this one are particularly amazing. I was about to start a bridge project too, mostly without any moss because I’ll use it in snow settings. I’ll just have to tell them to ignore it because I’ll have to add some moss like yours. Keep it up mate 💪
Thanks Matt! Yeah I am so happy I managed to find a good look that didn't hinder the gameplay of the bridge! Haha! There is still moss even if there is snow man, well unless it's like the arctic! :D
Thanks for the quick response. Yeah well, I’m going to be running Icewind dale Rime of the frostmaiden, so arctic it is. But I’ll be putting moss and vegetation on my stuff anyway. It’ll make it reusable, especially in forests, which is probably the most common d&d area
Ooooh nice! I have the book next to me but have not yet started reading it! :)
För jäkla snyggt! Vid varje steg i målningen och mossapplikationen tänkte jag: nu är den klar, nu är den snygg. Men varje steg gjorde den bara ännu snyggare. Kudos!
BTW, jag ber om ursäkt för att Cham anklagade Wilson ;)
Haha! Tack så mycket och ingen fara! Det kommer bli mer spännande så! :D
Fy fasen vad nice den blev!
Tack så mycket! Ja den vart inte helt åt fanders! :D
Love the pizzabox palette :D
Hahaha! Hey Joacim! 😊Yeah pizzaboxes are awesome, especially when flocking a bunch of terrain pieces! 👍😆
DM: "your party approaches a wide and mighty river. Nearby there's a bridge where locals are cros-"
Me: "I jump across"
DM:" you can cross for free and the current is strong"
Me: "I jump *rolls and fails*"
DM: "You try to leap the river and trip on a rock. You fall in and got swept away to never be seen again"
Haha so true! 🤣
I think this was your best build yet. Absolutely fantastic result! And you know me loving to see the work with the vegetation which was allowed to get some time in this one. Great!
Just thought ”people would pay a lot to buy this piece at a store!”
Keep up with your creations and help those friends!
Thank you so much Niklas! Not so sure people would pay for this but hey :D
@@DevsDice You are way too humble to your own creations. People WOULD. Trust me.
Thanks Niklas! 💙💛💙
Without further ado? But, I came here specifically for the ado!
Hahahaha! Fair enough! More ado then! ;)
@@DevsDice Niiiice!
I like this cos depending on your build you could expand on this and have some sort of (removable) roof as shelter from the rain. Also, I would have put just a bit of brown paint on the ends of the bridge as mud so it would look like it's used on occasion.
These are some excellent suggestions ObsidianDragon616! Thanks for sharing! 👍😊
Welcome back!! You have been missed. 🙏🏼😁 Thanks for saving my monday with a epic build. 🤘🏼
Thank you and my pleasure! 😃🤘
Was thinking, if you a smaller river section and design it to look shallow and pebbled, it would be a great river ford
That's a great idea Andrew! 👍😊
The finished effect looks really good. In real life it would not work as the arch has no keystone - a different option to keep the same curve is to add wooden logs between the pillars and then add the stone handrails on top of the wood.
Thank you so much for the insight Armoury-Terrain! That just shows my ignorance when it comes to making bridges but now I almost need to make a new one! 👍🤣
This game me an idea... Build the bridge but using the hotwire cutter, but cut it in half. Magnetize both ends and then you would have a functional bridge that could be pulled apart into two "ramps" like the main bridge that leads up to Helm's Deep in LOTR: ROTK.
Excellent work, Leif. Very happy I found your channel!
Thank you DannyRight! Yeah funny enough the original plan was to make this much more modular but I chickened out! 😂 Also, I am glad you found your way here as well! Welcome! :)
@@DevsDice You are talented as hell, or the 9 hells! Greatly looking forward to seeing what you do in the future, my vikingr friend!
Thank you so much DannyRight! Warms my heart! :)
9:36,
Hey, I just bought that exact miniature on Amazon a couple of days ago.
Nice Shadow Mage! Painted it yet? 👍😊
@@DevsDice Not yet, but I did give it a new base. I would have primed it as well if not for the rainy weather.
@@DevsDice Finally painted it. Shared it as a community post on my channel.
Du ar den Basta Leif. Haller dig stark! 👍🤘
Haha! Thank you John! Also your Swedish is getting better! ;)
@@DevsDice im trying brother 😀
Looking good from my view! You would be surprised how similar things are really, I mean both Swedish and English are Germanic languages! :)
@@DevsDice Yes sir, you're right about that. And Swedish is a awesome language to begin with! Take care my friend 🤘👍
Haha! I am sure it is! :D You too John! Thanks again man! 😃
awesome build.
I really like the showcase music. Who is this ?
Thank you so much! Niklas Johansson - Call of the North is the song! 👍😊
Would be really nice to have the music credited! Love this kind of stuff, and the artists definitely deserve to be credited!
Yeah I agree That’s why I pay for the music ;) I have a subscription at epidemicsound. I can try to get a list together for you if you want?
Just include that in your videos! Just as a person who makes music for a living, often libraries never credit us for our work in obvious ways and give users the impression that no further action should be taken.
Help us make epic music (and find epic music) by always crediting what you use!
I still owe you a tip and I saw you are using blue foam so lets talk giant mushrooms. You cut foam discs, round the edges my tips is in the gills score the underside like a pizza add in miner cuts as well. DO NOT HOLD IT put it on a I used a metal coat hanger, heat the bottom with a lighter the gills will swell an open on the foam. You can also make weird glyph I cut an eye in foam pillar then scorched it splitting and cracking in a cool way.
Oh wow that sounds cool! Might test that if I will ever do giant mushrooms! Thanks Brice! :D
👍
Thanks Danbautista7552! Glad you like it! 👍😊
Ok, i just found out about your chanel and i'm a big fan !
Subscribed and now bingewatching all of it !
By the way, what's the song at then end of your videos ? At the big reveal time ?
Awesome! Welcome David! The song is one that I got from Epidemic Sound. I will get back to you with the details since I am AFK atm! :)
The track I have at the end is "Call of the North - Niklas Johansson" and it's available at Epidemic Sound! :)
Thanks a lot ! That's an amazing track. I'm sure it'll fit perfectly in my d&d campaign !
Ahh nice! :D
