You're welcome. One thing that's interesting to me about "One Step Beyond" is that not only do they not make shows like this nowadays . . . they COULDN'T make shows like this. Aesthetic psychology/sensibility is not only personal but also social/cultural/historic. Today . . . you couldn't find enough writers/directors/actors who think/feel/act in the way that they did in the 1950s. This series is like a psycho-historic artifact of a way that certain people used to think/feel/act . . . and that few people can any more.
@Carlos Jorge Stöckel: But in a certain sense, that's always the case. Any society at any given time emphasizes some aspects of human nature . . . and not others.
There's nothing like watching quality programming, and actors that can actually act without having to rely on sex, gratuitous violence, or special effects. Much better show than many that are on today, thanks for compiling the shows so they can be enjoyed again. Brings back many good memories.
John T. So true. It's actually relaxing to know there's no sex - AND no violence - whooooa .... Could they even put a program together today without those elements?
John: I wish they would bring back movies like "Vertigo", "North by Northwest", "Rear Window", "Gaslight" "Out of the Past", "The Man Who Knew Too Much", and "A Stolen Life."
Great writing, acting and production standards. John Newland's direction is the icing on the cake. ONE STEP BEYOND is one of those shows from my youth for which unknown episodes still turn up--thank heavens!
I do love these episodes. They are very insightful. Ruth, a very recognizable name in the Bible, as an outsider who becomes a Jewish heroine. Wilhelm, a very notable name in German history. Brought together to make a point. Everyone hates. Yet, hate has to die to insure that love can mend the wounds that hate has inflicted on the human race.
This is an unforgettable work of filmmaking, tremendous sustained suspense, an incredible ending one is not likely to forget. A 21 minute masterpiece. Thanks for making these shows available to all of us!
How peculiar when, watching an episode of a show about bizarre coincidences, I play along and answer "August 9th" and the character actually says it!!!! I never ever thought she would answer MY birthday!
Thanks for uploading something that's deeper than the usual TV fare. These shows could be quite profound. (Rod Serling probably wrote the best.) Take care, everyone.
Such wonderful memories of staying up late, sneaking into the den to secretly watch with friends. Parents always thought we were too young to be watching. But we always knew better. Thanks for sharing 📺
Her name is Catherine Feller. She only did a handful of stuff but she's probably best recognized for being in the Hammer movie Curse of the Werewolf which starred Oliver Reed.
Terrific acting, scenes, stories. First-rate all the way. The actress who played the enraged Jewish girl was exceptional. So was the actor who played the Nazi ghost. The earmark of "One Step Beyond." Too bad the sequel series, "The Next Step Beyond" was so mediocre compared to this series. Poor John Newland, had to host that lousy sequel series.
Several years ago I decided to go over to my brothers house and ask him If I could have one of two pictures that he had of Jesus. One of the pictures hung on his wall and the other was stored in a closet in his house. I suddenly had the thought that day that I was finally (READY FOR THE PICTURE), so I got ready and walked towards my door to let myself out. Just as my hand was about to touch the door nob there was a knock at my front door, I opened the door, and I was stunned, there stood my brother holding the picture of Jesus, I almost fell over, when I asked him why he had showed up that day he replied, something told me that you were (READY FOR THE PICTURE) He answered my question with the very words that I had been thinking in my mind! True story!
My sister and I loved _One Step Beyond,_ and watched it together faithfully. The theme music gave her the creeps like no other, but she loved it anyway.
OTB HOST: I cannot THANK YOU enough for gathering all of the episodes that I had longed to see! I do not know how to express my gratitude but I WILL tell all my friends!
I think the principle is that if you profit from something, then you can, if you like, repay by passing it along to others that might also profit from it. I've certainly had my life changed for the better by the CZcams uploads of countless other people. It's a profound revolution in accessibility to all kinds of materials. I'm glad to feel that I'm contributing with my own "One Step Beyond" uploads . . .
These are fantastic. Thanks for uploading. My older sisters used to talk about this series but it was shown too late, and by the time I was old enough to watch it was off the air. I had to content myself with The Twilight Zone, no misfortune, but I've always wondered about One Step Beyond. Thanks.
John Newland always has to mention the word "hallucination." Hell no. The girl saw an apparition, no doubt of an earthbound soul with unfinished business.
And it's used in a subtle and systematic way. Even leaving aside the paranormal content, OSB episodes are well-crafted, in a low-key manner. It's really more a New York television sensibility than a Hollywood one . . .
All of these rare episodes are still under music copyright. But the copyright holders are kindly allowing the videos to run here on CZcams . . . in exchange for the ads that are appearing. So thanks to them, too . . .
It was just 15 years after WW2, so it was still of contemporary interest. In addition, the intensity of war is thought to be especially conducive to the arising of paranormal events. You can see a list of all OSB war episodes on our website: one-step-beyond.info/episodes-search.html . I count 19 episodes -- call it 20% . . .
Actually, no no, Anton Diffring had quite a career playing German (especially Nazi) soldiers or 'bad guys'. For example, he's the corrupt football (soccer) commentator in Escape to Victory (dreadful!) as well as Major Frick, the security officer in The Heroes of Telemark, one of my favourite WW2 films.
i used to hide out to watch this as a kid. in it i found a desire to know everything about everything and leave nothing out. i learned science, and other things (a-z) and it was this show about the supernatural, that gave me what i think, is a very well grounded understanding of the world around us. science explains a lot, but not all as it rejects the supernatural (yet it seeks to understand that...hypocrites) while i am not sure just anyone would watch this and grow in depth at such a young age as i, it is my hope that many did and those watching now will. the episode i remember well was the monster that visited and was a friend of a kid. the people in town burned the ravine it lived in, and that in is where my search for knowledge began
yes signs also doesn't explain the answer to many spectacular events is going. An answer science cannot come to is the fact that God is the answer. Scientist are almost fools for not embracing their God. Science only puts limits on kids add the man that every kid must know that God does exist and be taught it. This lesson will be a means to an and that will be the beginning of the start to finish this negation.
Had to watch one more episode before surrendering my computer to get a glitch sorted out. Thanks again. Will get right back into it when the PC's fixed.
One thing that contributed a lot to OSB's success was the fact that Newland directed all 3 seasons. As a result, (unlike "The Twilight Zone", for example) the series developed and refined a consistent style. Sometimes it rises to a pretty sophisticated level . . .

My grandmother had two brothers that. Fought in world war one both when home after the war but one only. Left home a few months later never to seen again
I've been searching for an episode of a show. I think it's from One Step Beyond. It was about two rivals for a woman's love, and one of them flew a glider. One day the flyer was about to take off, and the other man stabbed him while he sat in the glider, then drove the tow plane and launched the glider, which didn't return before dark. The woman was frantic. Some time later, and I don't remember how long, the glider returned, and the woman ran out to greet it, only to find the skeletal remains of the man. Does this sound familiar to anybody?

Is it just me, or does the music at the end of this series' episodes -- in most cases I've watched? -- sound very much like the theme to Dark Shadows? It has a similar vibe... Structure, the notes -- it sounds very close. The same composer, or was the Dark Shadows theme composer inspired by this?!?!? It feels too coincidental...
Not the same composer, but both themes use the theremin (years before the Beach Boys used it in "Good Vibrations"): czcams.com/video/kfEF-u16umg/video.html
The instrument used by the Beach Boys in "Good Vibrations" isn't a theremin. You can see the instrument being used in this video: czcams.com/video/QSLMWasU0rM/video.html and it's obvious it's not a true theremin. It makes a sound similar to a theremin but it's an instrument called an electrotheremin. A genuine theremin has a more ethereal sound.
the ghost of German officer came to this girl to help that Frieda Hessler woman (the widow) to find her husband's body so she could remarry. but what a mean and nasty girl to shoot an injured person.. and a ghost at that! ;-)
My late cousin suffered the same existence as the Holocaust survivor in this story, and was about the same age. The stories she related to me decades later would be almost impossible for the modern generation to comprehend. What I found particularly stunning and accurate about the script was the behavior and interplay between the principle character and the former Polish inmate/partisan. His disdain echoed some of the things my cousin had told me about how old animosities and prejudices quickly reared their heads once everyone was freed of the concentration camps. Despite the shared horror of their existence, there was little to bond the survivors, one to the other. Each person had to search for his own answers to why life had been so incredibly cruel and devastating. Some turned to faith and philosophy, while others chose to regard it as a mad nightmare best ignored, though never forgotten. The lady in this story pursued a third path, hate and vengeance, but quickly learned it was a futile dead-end course. I don't know how many paths my cousin took, but in the end, like the character in the play, she found happiness and a fulfilling life supported by the love of her future husband and children. Love will always trump hate, but keep your powder dry just in case hate comes a calling.
Did he say how's that a machine, how's me" as if he were the machinehimself. Why did he start talkin about a machine all the sudden after talking about prom it was like he was possessed to say it

One-Step-Beyond ...your right & that loss is sad
this type of programming is why (to me) television entertainment was vastly superior back then as compared to today
It is really a pity! Nowadays we miss terrible shows of the quality of "One Step Beyond"

Yeah the acting is next level. Love it
One of the best episodes ever. The scream, the gunshot, and then... he's gone. Wow.

Well said. Hatred flees when Love enters; Apathy whines and cowers, blown away like ashes by Love, which gives a strength of purpose and peace.
The first episode that literally gave me chills.
Very sad in her vision of revenge she also condemns herself
This is an unforgettable work of filmmaking, tremendous sustained suspense, an incredible ending one is not likely to forget. A 21 minute masterpiece. Thanks for making these shows available to all of us!

Mine two!
Another episode a woman dreams her future husband would die in an attack on August 12. Maybe these shows were written in August.
Mine also.
I'm pretty sure these are based on real incidents.
Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction
" ... a handful of numb survivors to argue with the rats about ... who owns what ..."
Such amazingly descriptive writing they had on this show!
They must have spent half of the series budget on screams and yells. I love it!
This woman saw an angel. The man's widow was praying. She got her answer.
Thank you. I remember other episodes but not this one. I wish that it was shown in high schools today. History seems to be. Getting lost.

Amazing episode touching on the tragedy of concentration camps without excessive sentimentality.
Timeless program ❤
"A few survivors to argue with the rats for who owned what!" War aftermath in a nutshell!🌰
So appropriate for today. The same lesson.
These are wonderfully written and acted stories with content unlike others in this area. Thank you!
Glad you found them . . .
The nurse looks like the female version of John Newland. 😁 Thanks for uploading! ✨🖖🏻
Excellent episode. Faith Brook’s performance is convincing.
Can't hate forever, less we forget,.Rob🐝
That was good stuff.
My favorite, a lot of good shows though.
One step beyond
This was a beautiful series and I love it
Remarkable eyes he has
Where did the money come from? Something about her thst disturbed me.
They need to make a reboot of this show like they did the twilight Zone
Faith Brook is a fine actress in this episode,
Rats become the cats...cats become the rats.

Her name is Catherine Feller. She only did a handful of stuff but she's probably best recognized for being in the Hammer movie Curse of the Werewolf which starred Oliver Reed.
Terrific actress. The girl she played life was changed when she met a Nazi officer with a conscience. His remorse changed her hate into hope.

Despite an ordinary face, the actress is strangely attractive. That's stage presence.

Great episode. The actor Anton Diffring it seems has never gotten the credit her deserved for a lifetime of outstanding work.
Thank you. The difference between television then and now is that now we dehumanize anyone we disagree with.
I loved OSB as a child I love to watch them over and over and let the imagination run wild...thanks so much for this rarity. what a story!!!!
I'm glad you're watching them . . .
This was a great Television series and the only one that was based on True stories and actual events.
I knew the German soldier was a ghost right from the beginning. Cool episode.
Nice to see Sandor Eles working here. He played opposite Ingrid Pitt in Countess Dracula.

Great story, and food for thought !!! Thank you for uploading for the rest of us to enjoy and to ponder !
@Allen Cohen: Glad you found it . . .
This was a very intense episode.
Thanks for posting these. I watched them as a child.
Glad you found them again . . .
What many of you may not know is these stories based on actual events!

Anton Diffring was good in everything I've seen him in. Circus of Horrors is a favourite of mine.
Thank you for Uploading these wonderful gems of OSB!

gary schultz that is because the war was still fresh in peoples minds having been over at least ten years.
I recognize the soldier from Circus of Horrors. My favorite movie as a kid, saw it several times in the theater.

What a shallow comment from MateyinUsa.
Did he say how's that a machine, how's me" as if he were the machinehimself. Why did he start talkin about a machine all the sudden after talking about prom it was like he was possessed to say it
Thanks for the upload, love the show. Is it just me or could Samuel have been Benedict Cumberbatch's father?
He definitely is not.
