  • Pete has found the ultimate fun/spend ratio - he and his family get an inordinate amount of pleasure from their Mariah boat at very low cost. This is how they do it.

Great vid. Just goes to show you don't have to be a millionaire to be a boater. The yearly costs of running a boat, you'll never get back financially, but the memories are priceless, especially with a family. This guy probably spends, weekly, about £40 all in to run this boat for him and family to have some real bonding time together. As he said, two weeks in Spain for the same money for his family, or all year round happy days out together. Absolute no brainer. A BIG THUMBS UP FROM ME.

It makes a nice change to look at this end of the market and perhaps you can do a few more like this with boats that cost even less including the pitfalls of buying a pig in a poke. My only experience in boating was way back at the beginning of the 1960's A chap I worked for owned a small albatross. He didn't use it but I would go out in the boat with his son who was the same age as myself, we were both teenagers. The boat was light enough to manually launch and recover it manually off the beach at Blackpool's north shore. Like many other sports I'd love to have a go but now in my mid 70's it's physically impossible but keep these video's coming I just love them.

There's a lot of boat snobbery out there so it's nice to see a family just having a great time out on the water for a sensible budget. My old boss tried to impress my wife once with his 55' yacht and he considered my 17' pocket cruiser a bit of a laugh. She looked him in the eye and said " if your boat was sinking I bet you would love to come of ours", to which he couldn't argue. What's really nice is to see in this video is everyone's wearing life jackets, so many don't.

Here in California there is no option to park a boat in this manner. The minimum would be around $400 a month for a small boat, and up to $600 for the nicer marinas. You guys, and gals in the UK are lucky to have this option as it affords a lot more people enjoying the water, not just the rich. I suppose there are marinas like this in the States, but not in Cali as far as I know, Thanks Nick for the insight into boating on the cheap, and we can still do that, but must tow the boat instead of having the convenience of what essentially is a boat parking space, so lucky! 😀👍✌

But, you give up rain storms as it doesn't rain as it used to back in the day. We used to have a good ballance, but if you like thunderstorms, they are rare down here, and when they do appear, they're not as strong as they once were. This climate has always been one to desire, but you can sure tell the whether difference from back in the 70's to now, very little rain, and cold! 👍✌

Possibly the most valuable video on the whole aquaholic channel as this shows the reality of how inexpensive boating can be. So many people see boating as a sunseeker, but most of us started our experience of boating on boats like this. The sound of the inboard bubbling, the quicksilver throttle, all bought back memories of me starting my experience of boating with my parents on a boat exactly this size. Also loving.how meet the owner includes a boat trip and do you know what…I’d rather see a video of cracking small boat, owner and spin, than a snooty couple on a boat 4 times the size who don’t use the boat much and just want to give it the big one 🙂 great work guys

Fantastic feature Nick. Would be good to include what upgrades owners have done or are planning to get. Gives us all ideas to plan for our own boating. It seems to me, boating is going to get more popular, and people are holding on to their boats for longer, or upgrading. Currently looking at a gas BBQ for mine as I have gas onboard, which I think will 'add' to the experience. The floating pontoon for swimming, great idea and doesn't take up a lot of space! Note to self - must get one!!!🤣 Pete has swapped the life of one big summer holiday for many many short holidays a year! Combine this with the ability to trail it and add that to holiday on the French coast or east into the European waterways......worlds your oyster! Fantastic And as one commentator said below - a pod of dolphins at sunrise- Pete couldn't buy that experience for his family - but guaranteed - none of the family will ever forget it. What we all love about boating - an adventure every time with untold unexpected memories to be discovered.

    Nice chap….. nice boat 🙂
Those V6 engines, Mercruiser or Penta are a great compromise. Plenty of shove, lovely smooth note, much nicer than a four but a lot less thirsty than the V8’s. Also, with their American van origin, simple, robust and long lasting… 🙂

Not to disagree but are they really a lot less thirsty than a v8? My experience is the hull shape and boat weight is what influences the consumption almost entirely, and number of cylinders/engine size is almost irrelevant at planing speeds. But if you have any reasonably measured data that says differently, I would happily listen.

What a nice man. Thanks to you and Pete for this, it was surprising how little it cost overall. Nice to see someone who was not into “my boats bigger/faster/flashier than yours”. Moe of the low end boats please, Nick.

I don't think any of our Meet The Owners have been “my boats bigger/faster/flashier than yours” have they..?

@@AQUAHOLIC no, not at all, but they exist. I didn’t mean to imply that you entertained such people!

@@welfordxxx They do in all walks of life, but I don't think it is boat ownership or size specific. 🙂

New to this site and what a super man Nick is! I have watched videos of his from open runabouts to 17 million pound super yachts, Never a single patronising word from him. No "Oh that's much bigger on a Sunseeker!" he sees each post for what it is and just compliments everyone for just having a boat!

What a great way for a family to spend time together! I love watching your vids & this is one of my favourites, it shows that boating can be affordable as well as fun.
Got to love “meet the owner” features - more please, you must have plenty of “fans” with boats wanting to showpiece their floating pieces of paradise.
Look forward to see what’s uploaded next to Aquaholic 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

A boat like this is the quintessential cottager boat where I am in Ontario. Great for protected waters, fast, can tow tubes, take enough people. And for that reason they are ubiquitous around here.
