Oh my god trying to tune this one is a real test of patience. I suspected that the rims might be the problem because the shells look and feel really well made when you touch them. But thanks to you now i know what to do. Thanks man !

I don't understand what you're talking about, I love my Mapex's drums and they sound great. Everyone that hears my drums tells me how great my drum sound. But I'm glad you solve your problem your issue. I happen to own three drum kits myself.

Just bought the same kit literally few days ago. Basically noticed the same thing. But so far i still like the way they sound. The stock heads I think are not great at all. Put an Emad 2 on kick cause I couldn’t stand the way it kick sounded at all. Snare and Toms sound good though still gonna change out the heads after I beat them in for a little while. Will definitely take your advice in these rims. Thank you for the video

These are beautiful kits. As with any shell, finding the specific head combination that suits your sound is crucial to maximize your individual enjoyment and experience of the drum kit. Rims will change the experience as well…especially upgrading to much more sturdy rim. Enjoy the kit. I really love mine.

Just swapped the stock hoops out for Mapex 2.3mm power hoops (on the 12” Tom so far)
Was very lucky as someone was selling a whole set very cheap, so snapped them up 👍
So far so good with the 12. Noticeably more resonance & tone (not that I had a huge problem with the 1.6mm hoops) but a great upgrade so far! I’m hoping the tuning will stay put now too under heaving playing & for long periods 👍
    Happy so far, cheers

Very cool. I have had great luck with mine holding tuning after the change over. Have had zero issues. Glad to hear it helped. Thumbs up.

If your comparing the sound of a modern kit to an older vintage kit it's always going to sound different. Pinstripes are terribly dead heads. Good for close mics but there are tons of armory owners out there that have great sounding drums. Tuning is everything.

so maple/birch combo with there sonic bearing edges as well rack toms with free floating hardware ,. thats a great great drum kit ,, having to change out all the rims and hoops and heads a few times ,,, all par for the course ,, i change all that stuff out ,, best hoops are 100 bucks for one hoop the pearls!! they wont crap up and crease the side of your heads chocking the heads like the cheap non fitting non tunable rims WILL-DO! i will spend to fix that ,, i also will use the S-HOOPS there non expensive beefy rims,.. i brutally recommend everyone put one on there batter side snare drum - ,.. again change all that crap off the drums upgrade and get everything sounding great ,.. // my drum theory= any time you combine woods together to make a drum shell its the WIN ,, maple birch gum wood poplar walnut mahogany,, any combo of 2 or more of these woods ,.. will beat any solid wood one kind of wood shell drum kit,,.. 2 or more for the win ,..

UPDATE: I just replaced all my Armory rims with 3mm rims and Evans G1 heads on the bottom and Remo Pinstripes on the top identical to what is seen in the video. The sound is also identical now. Huge difference! By doing these upgrades it now competes with most premium drumsets costing way more. It was about $100 per tom after tax so that makes a 6 piece armory for $999 now $1399 and very well worth it.

Just curious did you have a strange overtone on the snare? My friend and I have been fighting with a snare drum to get rid of a weird overtone. We’re currently using the tomahawk snare that came with the kit. His kit is also ultramarine. What a beautiful colour . any information appreciate it.

    • @vapeguy3625
      @vapeguy3625 Před rokem

@@JamieR74 yes. I replaced the head with an Evans HD Dry which helps but drum honey does the trick too. The tomahawk is a loud ringing metal snare drum but a lot of people really like it especially in live settings

one head trick im passing on ,. well it works for me keep in mind i hit very hard and need a drum that does not dee tune,. one way to achieve this if you so believe your good at tuning to begin with is this= use clear i will use coated use clear P3- power stroke3 remo on the resonant side of the the toms its a thick single head with a 2nd built in ring,,, very easy to get the bottom head all the lugs even and will sit nice at a medium tuning ,, also less flex in the head means more rebound less flex as your bottom head is not moving as much with the stronger head on it,. stays in perfect tune so it resonates more so ,. now heads are completely personal this is just something to think about wen your buying heads and your using what everyone else is doing ,. there are a few options,, and not playing threw your drums is a option i will use a clear diplomat on the bottom of my snare all my heads ya a little thicker set up tune up play less time dealing with the heads flexing around and going our of tune,,. what you use on the top of the toms its up for debate ,, however you can use remo P3 on the bottom of the toms and coated ambassador for a single head on top and get great sustain and still get the rebound and great feel ,. going to thinker top heads just requires hitting a little harder , but thick top heads thin bottom heads nope,. the bottom gos out of tune,.. 2 easy ,.. on the toms,. any way like i say this is just a concept,. if you got something you like plays tunes right thats the ticket ,. my personal concept im trying to explain is a bit crazy ,. i can understand using thinner heads , . :) ' '

Having the same issue with my armory kit. Can't get it to tune at all. I've only played it like 3 times over the last year because I hate how it sounds.

Drum factory direct also has 2.3mm rims that will make a huge difference. They are a bit cheaper than the 3mm. I have the 2.3 on another kit.

im playing sizes 12-snare 18-kik ,12-rak tom, 16-floor tom,... so i can build up a few kits as there not to big,.. in a few days my armory 12x9 rack tom will be hear,, i will change out all the rims heads and look at improving the tom mount if need be,. and use that tom to replace a old beat up yam recording custom 12 i have with the edges dun a few times on it lol,.. i will see what i think,.. i hopping to order another 12x9 16x16 armory and i will probably have to order a Saturn 18x16 kick that is i believe maple/walnut with sonic clear edges however there kick they say is 60 degrees edge kick drums.... tho i could use what ever kik if i like the mapex i might get the full kit like im saying,.. for shore 12 and 16 toms i have a few kiks kicking around i could still use,, i also have the best old kit aged 30 or so years and thats the yamaha rock tour custom as its birch mahogany also had another layer of sum kind of epoxy or something that made the drums speak and have more volume and be load as they were rock drums,.. thats a very good wood shell combo and i put 30 degree new edges on them, rock/jazz.. any how if i like the armorys ,. the sound profile is sum what interchangeable with all my drum sets as i also have a gretch brooklyn thats ones is poplar maple ,, as long as i have shells with 2 wood combos and im matching one of them into another brand,, ,.the 2 woods,, its why i can interchange these drums ,.and, it gives me the fat low end that i want from the drum kit,, the2woods,,. also the armorys bearing edge is something that wont de-tune as fast as i beat on the drums for a few hours that bearing edge is a mapex,,,thing,,..and that is a very good thing,, drums staying in tune longer,, im gonna see how i like it and i think i am,. cheers

You don't know how to tune... Nothing to change and my Mapex Armory sings really nice !!!
Play drums for almost 35 years and tuning is a reel passion for me. It's a really good investment.
Just change the stocks heads and it takes me half a day to tune every drums on this kit. Really nice.
    Take care
