  • I just completed a 30-day challenge learning to juggle 5 balls!
    My main goals of this challenge were to:
    1. Qualify juggling 5 balls
    2. Juggle 5 balls well (15+ catches regularly)
    On day 1, I made a video of my skill level with 5 balls, you can see it here: • Day 1 - Learning to J...
    I spent about 10-30 juggling each day, learning how to juggle 5 balls. I watched a lot of juggling tutorials to learn how to juggle 5. There were a few things I found to work for me:
    1. Learning to throw higher
    2. Throwing higher with accuracy
    3. 3, 4, and 5 ball cascades
    There were a few things I found during the challenge that were the main problems when learning:
    1. Balls hitting mid-air
    2. Throwing the balls at too much of an angle (to compensate for 1)
    3. Throw timing
    4. Left arm throwing inconsistently
    I kept a blog post of my experience over the 30 days, so if you want to read a bit more depth into how I learnt and what I did, check it out at my website here:
    On day 5 I managed to qualify 5 balls - you can see what I learnt to do that here: • 5 Days to Juggle 5 Balls
    I have made a few other juggling videos recently and created a playlist. Check it out to see what else I've done: • How to Juggle 3 Balls ...
    I have created a Patreon page for those who are interested in taking their goal setting and achievement to the next level: / nathanchallengeslife . I review my goals and progress towards financial independence monthly on my website, Nathan Challenges Life.
    Thanks for watching!

      Taylor Glenn has the answer: czcams.com/video/j2rOC3DkAys/video.html
      I have a set that look suspiciously like those (different brand) and they're fine. Grab a set if you can.
      If you can't find those, I currently use Renegade Juggling clubs and used Brian Dube clubs (years ago), and they are both excellent. (These are all 21 1/4 inch length wrapped handle clubs with a dowel down the middle) The Renegade and Dube clubs are clearly better quality, but they're pricier, feel more solid, but turn a bit harder (feel heavier). I've ordered stuff from both Renegade and Dube recently, and they're both great to order from.

      If you're looking for a brand, I'd defnitely recommend Zeekio, Henry's, or Dube. They are durable and have a decent weight to work with to make spinning them a lot easier to do.

    That's very fast learning! I practiced pretty regularly for about 2 years and my best run is like 570. I usually do runs of 100 catches, and if there's any collision, then start over. Quality over quantity of throws. You'll surpass me in no time if you keep progressing at this high rate, so keep at it!

    I feel like a very elementary juggler after watching jugglers on CZcams, but still, as a percentage of the world's population there aren't many that can qualify 5. My best was 30 catches.

      It's starts picking up after 5. I have been working on 5 for about 6 months. You end up learning the varients, and 6 ball easily if you can juggle in 3 one handed. My body isn't my limiting factor, it's mostly psychological self belief. Theirs lots of small people who can juggle like 9 or more.

    Sorry, in my opinion, what you call "Day 1" is not "Day 1" but rather "Day xx" because, for example, unlike tricks with 3 and 4 balls, for the "5 balls cascade", at a normal height, you have to learn to catch balls without seeing your hands. But you already know how to do it from the so-called first day.

    • @NathanChallengesLife
      @NathanChallengesLife  Před 3 lety +5

      Yes, great point. While it is day 1 actually trying to juggle 5 balls, this whole challenge probably isn't considered as a day 1 perspective because I already have some juggling skills.
      Granted, it was still a really big challenge to do 5, even from 3! It almost felt like a new skill because it's was such a stretch from 3 😋

    • @kevinfager.
      @kevinfager. Před 3 lety +3

      Yeah I mean...it would be quite difficult learning from nothing...you should probably spend 60 days prior to that learning 3 balls, many patterns & 4 balls. But...30 days to go from 3 to 5 is still really good.

    • @danielbellut143
      @danielbellut143 Před 3 lety +3

    I think the title is misleading. You definitely had substantial juggling experience prior to day 1. No one just comes up with eight catches of the five ball cascade on the first day of juggling. I would guess this video probably demotivates people. It grossly misrepresents the effort that goes into learning the five ball cascade, no matter how talented you are.

    • @NathanChallengesLife
      @NathanChallengesLife  Před 3 lety

      Hmm, good point, to be fair that first test was the best 5 ball cascade I'd ever done :P normally I'd only get 3-5 catches.
      So I guess this video is about how I learnt to juggle 5 balls in 30 days, from my starting point on day 1 😉 not necessarily from absolute 0

    • @joshuawalker8297
      @joshuawalker8297 Před 3 lety

      In my case, you would be wrong; I was a very solid 3 ball juggler having juggled 3 balls on and off for 35 years. During the pandemic, I learned to juggle 4 so I can consistently throw for 40+ throws. The other day, I watched a short youtube video on how to juggle 5 by Taylor Glenn (Taylor Tries). I immediately picked up 5 balls and, first time, I was able to flash the 5 balls. The next day, I qualified with 5 balls. I am still highly inconsistent and usually can only complete 1 flash but still, fast progress can be made.

      hmm. [This note to Joshua Walker] Sounds like me. three balls for decades, with a vague ability to do four. Then in March after a week I solidified four and can walk around the city crossing streets knowing I won't drop one in front of cars. But five seems baffling. I saw a Taylor Tries vid on it a few months ago, and I started doing a thing where I throw two high from one hand and one from the other. She must have said that was good to do. Her basic starting point was, if memory serves, to juggle three quite high. She said it was hard but that wasn't hard for me. Saw some guy yesterday who said to begin by juggling three and clapping. But when I tried it, I couldn't notice any place where it would be easy to clap as I always had one ball in one hand. I can juggle four while riding my bike, but five seems impossible. So your story is interesting to me. I've always thought of five as the basic entry level for a street busker. So you went from not-perfect at four, to five? I still can't quite even visualize five. I'll try to get back to you in a week. If I don't, I'm still at four!@@joshuawalker8297

  • @johnf817
    @johnf817 Před rokem

    I too learned 5 balls was standing in front of my bed, so I didn't have to keep picking them up. I also put in 1 to 3 hours every night after work, for a few months. I kept throwing a 3 ball cascade fast and high enough so you have time to throw the last two. It's not as fast as you may think. I would just focus of throwing 5 accurate balls and letting them drop and if they land in 2 tight groups then start catching.

  • @user-hj7ld4ff7p
    @user-hj7ld4ff7p Před 9 měsíci

    5:20 I looked up "flash" and for one guy that was doing four balls without crossing over. Just two in each hand. But in yours, that means the crossover. Which for me is the impossible part.

    Day one for Nathan seems impossible for me. I've juggled three balls for fifty years, and a few years back I went for a few years juggling four snowballs while riding my bike. I'd basically ride everywhere in Toronto just doing three (that part for years). In March, my son visited. He's a drummer, not a juggler. He picked up juggling three clubs in fifteen minutes. I had trouble with four balls. A week after he left, I was very consistent with four balls, and when I visit the city now I walk through traffic with four bean balls, no biggie. As for height, I can consistently four-ball it with one ball up to the third floor of buildings followed by two balls up to the second or third floor. So I'm a solid four.
    But five? Five? Still can't even visualize it. Telling myself it's just three but faster doesn't do it for me. If I could ever do five once, I could then repeat it. So by 1:16 in this video, I'm out. Still, I'll force my four-ball brain to watch this video.

    • @NathanChallengesLife
      @NathanChallengesLife  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey man,
      My best tip would be to really master 3 and 4 ball cascades. That happens to me all the time. It's really about mastering the control of your throws at a lower level first, then when moving to 5 the movement will be ingrained in your pattern and make it less likely to go wide.
      Good luck!!

  • @renarszivers9993
    @renarszivers9993 Před rokem +1

    Hey Nathan. What was your base going in terms of having mastered 3-ball and 4-ball tricks prior to this? I.e. which of the 3-ball/4-ball tricks are a must before attempting 5-ball cascade?

    • @NathanChallengesLife
      @NathanChallengesLife  Před rokem +1

      Hmm, I wouldn't say any of the specific 3 or 4 ball tricks are required. But I would suggest 4 ball juggling quite useful for learning to throw faster. My 4 ball juggling isn't great but felt like it got better after the challenge - throwing 4 balls and then a ghost throw for the 5th can help with getting used to 5 balls as well 👍
      And for 3 balls, high throw juggling can be helpful to emulate the height required for 5 balls 👍

    8 catches are fantastic on the first day. Juggling with 5 balls means being able to manage 10 catches (2x5). So basically, you were almost there on the first day. When I started, I was barely able to do a flash (5 catches). After 25-30 days I could manage 10-12 catches from time to time. Half-year of short everyday practice later, I'm in the 20-30 range. I've seen my friend learning it in a month with a very comparable result. Congrats.

      Definitely not the 5 ball juggling. Yes I am an experienced 3 ball juggler, but could never do 5 balls until after this challenge.
      I would question your thoughts on whether it's possible or not. There's a lot of time in 30 days and I was spending probably an hour per day juggling for practice. You can practise for even longer than an hour, or split it up into 10 x 20 minute blocks. I think it's definitely possible for a beginner to learn to juggle in 30 days 👍🏻
