I have seen all the videos, many times, and one live concert. I NEVER imagined that Ksenia has such a rich tone to her voice when singing in these lower registers! Most of her singing is high harmony to Sergey's tenor voice. So glad to see this. She is gifted.

In 1981 I got a hold of a tape reel captioned “Black Russian” with three Russian names mentioned. For 20 years I didn’t who these guys were and no one could tell me. Eventually with the help of internet I found out that these 3 guys broke away from the iron curtain, moved to US in 1976 and signed with Motown Records.
I truly enjoyed the track “Leave Me Now” and we decided to pay homage to these talented musicians. We thank Natasha (Shneider), Kapustin (RIP), Serge Kapustin, Vladimir Shneider (RIP) and Allee Willis (RIP) who wrote the lyrics
That's such a cool story. Please keep it in your setlist. This is a living piece of history.

Why is Ksenia Buzina not the biggest female stars on the planet? Hypnotically beautiful. An amazing pianist. An amazing voice.
Amazing range, too. She's just as comfortable in contralto range as in mezzo soprano. What a gift to the ears.

The simplest answer is that the corrupt music industry of the west want to profit as much as they can without outlaying on quality. The young generation have been brainwashed into thinking drum loops, dirty rap and pitch-corrected vocals are music.
I understand that she has a very big following in Europe, but her solo style hasn't been a big hit here in the states. Guess that's because she's a real vocalist, a consummate professional...no hip-hop or RAP-CRAP from her. We need more of this and less of the ass jigglers who dress like tramps and think they know how to sing. I would love to hear this woman sing Anita Baker. I have no doubt she would sound excellent.
From what I have read, Ksenia is from Russia and has toured independently from Leonid & Friends. It's been said that she is very smart, speaks fluently in 7 languages as well as being absolutely gorgeous with a fantastic voice. The group is as good if not better than Chicago, from the singers to the horn section and the drummer as in the song: "I'M A Man". the Best tribute band out there!

But the voice is one of an angel. I am struggling to think of anyone today who comes anywhere near her.
The line about singing a phone book was first said many years ago about Karen Carpenter. I believe Ksenia is a worthy successor to Karen's legacy.

She's done some solo stuff that you can find on CZcams but IMO this style suits her the best. For instance, she did a cover of Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones - although she has a great voice, the song style didn't really fit her - she's definitely more r&b pop and jazz influence with some ballads

Oh my God! I'm not a big fan of remakes, but that song with Leonid & Friends really touched me. The most interesting thing is that despite being a cover, the band maintained the originality of the arrangements! It is identical to the arrangement of the original Black Russian Band.. I am in love with the performance and voice of Ksenia Buzina.
Being an American, I’ve never heard of Black Russia or this song. I must say, it’s a beautifully haunting song and a sumptuous arrangement. Ksenia’s vocal quality is so rich, and her interpretation of this song’s theme is so moving. Thrilled to hear her sing lead, especially w lush strings. Bravo!

Ken, respect about you never heard b4 this song, I have a friend´s group here in Brazil where the subject is only about 70´s and 80´s bands. Two years ago we were all together in a lunch break and suddenly started to play " The Jones Girls - At Peace With Woman " and one of my friends ( he is 54 years old ) said: OMG what track is this ? i never heard before......ok, is impossible to know all tracks from 70´s and 80´s but there is some classics where is not allowed you don´t know if really you like old tracks. Black Russian was formed in old Soviet Union and they emigrated to USA in 1976 and in 1980 signed with with Motow records. But´s ok, much respect to you my friend. Y'know, there's so much to be said about this group of people and their leadership. From the lead vocalists to the instrumentalists to the engineers. This is what you get when *all* are pretty much at the top of their field. I love that they chose this song for Ksenia. It puts her extraordinary vocal range, timbre and interpretation on display so we can finally see how complete a singer and artiste she is. Leonid has so many gifts, but knowing which material to choose to expose the enormous raw talent, and then coax it from the individuals is extraordinary. I think that Leonid does as much or more even for this group of artists than George Martin did for the Beatles. What a great time to be alive and watch this gift bestowed on all of us.
I totally agree that Leonid is the brains behind this band. As a musician of many years i find it hard to believe what he does because if you take time to analyse his role you will see that most things done in this band have his touch to it. From dissecting the music of Chicago to writing the music to being involved in the mixing is truly a master craftsman. Just for the record he is an excellent bass player as despite all the recording gizmos you cannot replicate feel, interpretation and passion

There is absolutely no question in my mind that Ksenia is a major talent. Fabulous control of her belting voice and some of the best diction I have ever heard from a vocalist. Only B. Streisand has better diction. Still, a fabulous endowment of vocal prowess! Leonid & Friends, the best rock/fusion band on the planet!
All I can say about her “diction” is that she is not singing in her native tongue. She speaks 4 or 5 languages. If she were an American, her diction would be just as good as Barbra’s. This is just my opinion. Michael Stone, your comment, taken in its entirety, is right on!! Totally agree!!

I heard this group singing on the radio in the middle of the night. I was convinced that I was listening to Lani Hall backed up by some group of musicians that her husband Herb Alpert had assembled. Ksenia is just that good because I am in love with Lani Hall’s voice.
She’s every bit as good as Streisand, and I’ve been listening to Streisand for more than 50 years.
What a magnified lecture by L&F about that russian masterpiece which was broadcasted by Motown as being authentic black music. Even "Black Russian" being originally a Rock&roll band.
Ksenia Buzina, by her time, is indeed one of biggest female singers currently around the whole world.

There are no words to explain how special Ksenia is. Pretty is as pretty does … and sings, moves, etc. I’d say she is the next superstar, but she’s already there. She’s the reason the Tower of Pisa takes a now.

I just listened to the original. The only difference is that this version is a little cleaner. Such a beautiful song brought back to life. This group of people are so incredibly talented. Leonid put together the best of all areas of music. To think that most of these people can't communicate very well in english, but can sing it better than 99% of us, it's just incredibe. I can't wait to see what they do next! They are a bright moment, in a dark year!

Such terrific people... Ksenia is indeed beautiful, and as beautiful inside when you speak with her. I started following L&F five years ago, right from their beginning here in the US. They love their music, their followers. They answer (when they get free moments) everyone who contacts them. Leonid told me early on, every Russian musician’s dream is to play before an American audience. It has been an amazing experience to speak to them and even some of their family members, to know them as people. They have the same wants as we do, to be free, be happy and be well. I saw them in concert twice Before the pandemic stopped their tours... they are just as amazing live.

What really strikes me about this video is Ksenia’s vocal range. I don’t recall hearing her sing continually at this low of a tone. It’s really outstanding! Soothing, clear, melodic and heart warming. I’m really surprised our US market hasn’t picked up more of her. Of course Leonid & Friends is outstanding as a band, but Ksenia really softens the hearts of the American eyes and ears. Thx so much!!
My College Radio WODU in Norfolk, Virginia, NATO' s Atlantic Command Headquarters city, in 1982-1983 played 1st Album Black Russian in its entirety many times. Our local Public Radio station Jazz programs played them, but even though a Motown record, none of the record stores, one of which even carried bootleg and official Soviet records, carried it. A lot of European records wound up in record bins courtesy of the sailors in the US Navy Atlantic Fleet and NATO. I had Black Russian album, transferred from a CART tape to reel-to-reel back in 1984, but lost track of it when I sold my Sansui player. More Black Russian covers, Leonid!
