this movie is absolutely fantastic... one of my all-time favs... all performances are stellar... Gena, Sandy, Gene, Ian, Betty... each scene a masterclass... and the story hits me even harder now that I, too, am in my 50s and have made many of the same decisions, mistakes & self-delusions as Gena's character.... wow!

This is a very good movie and most underrated. (Even the most overage of Allen's movies are better than most other movies.) Gena Rowlands should have been Oscar nominated for her performance.

Sandy Dennis is riveting. Gena Rowlands is incredible. What an exquisite picture.

Another Woman is one of my favorite films and Sandy Dennis one of my favorite actresses. The scene at the bar between Dennis and Rowlands is a master class in acting. When Dennis says "You should have been the actress" with such withering clarity it makes me catch my breath.

This is my favorite Woody Allen film, or favorite film period - he had such a great run of films in the mid/late '80s - and my heart always drops when I see the scenes in this film with Gene Hackman. Great cast, and just love the pace and tone of it. It's too bad Allen and Hackman didn't do more films together; and Rowlands as well. Having Satie's Gymnopedie No. 1 always helps too (I agree that it's not No. 3 as well).

That Hackman scene tears you up. Missed opportunities.

Melancholy and longing. A beautifully orchestrated scene that never fails to move me. It speaks volumes of the human heart and love in all its complexities.

Pretty much the most realistic dream sequence I have seen in any movie. This is a great film about painful self-reflection, the doubts of one's self and the regrets of life. An underrated but excellent film from Allen.

Sandy is incomparable. I can't describe her exquisite ability to characterize the neurotic.

  • @paulvoorhies8821

Yeah. She probably deserved a best supporting nomination.

I agree. The scene at the table is the best piece of acting. Without doubt Sandy Dennis shines. I first saw this in high school and when that scene came on i was transported!! And immediately fell in love with Sandy. I was just telling my acting teachers a few days ago about Sandy and that particular scene. They haven’t heard of her! So looks like I’m educating them  I’ve got this film at home and will put that scene up online. Great to read so many people here appreciating this gifted lady.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that loves this film, this scene in particular. This is basically a drama class! They're all great actors but Sandy Dennis has something that hypnotizes me.

Classic. I've always preferred Woody Allen's dramas over his comedies and "Another Woman" is among my favorite films from his.

I heard a rendiiton of this music (Gymnopedie) the other day and immediately thought of this scene. Perfect example of how a public domain classical peice can be implemented in a way that makes it feel new again (relatively speaking of course!) This is a compelling film that anyone can relate to no matter what stage they are in life, with a message as timeless and universal as the music itself.

My favorite Woody film, just beautiful. I love Sandy Dennis, one of my favorite actresses...this was probably her most, well, grounded performance.

This really is a beautiful scene, but the epilogue where we see the day they spent together in Central Park is even better. A real masterpiece of an ending that packs an emotional punch unlike anything Woody Allen's ever done, before or since.
