This is awesome. I wish I knew Elaine Stritch. I'd love to unexpectedly sing this song at a party. She is amazing. I'm a fan of Anna Kendrick singing this too, I'd love to see them both do a duet. Elaine is so tremendous, her talent and passion sparkle like diamonds. Cheers, I'm so inspired by her.
No fair. Elaine was an alcoholic. She was clearly hammered that night, not being a diva. Not saying it's right or wrong, it's just the fact. What you unfairly left out was the rest of the footage. She came back a couple of days later, sober, and NAILED it.
He wants her to sing the notes more like they are in the score (Like Lupone did decades later) but she did in rubato and in a "sprechgesang" (Singing/talking) style for so much time that she doesn't know the right notes and the right tempo anymore. In the take he likes (and the one in the recording) she was singing more than just speaking the notes). ps: She was supposed to be 45 in this video, but she looks older... Is this really in 1970? Or she lied he age?
She brought me to tears and then he says it was "flaccid", I can't even handle it.
Flaccid??? That was AWESOME! Elaine totally rocks!

Gorgeous.
I understand this wasn't optimal for a cast recording, but God what a powerful performance!
I'll miss you, Elaine.
love Elaine

Damn, I miss her!
it kills me that he described that take as 'flacid'...
not diva behavior. she didn't have it that night and was angry and frustrated with herself
AAAAHHHH i like the forbidden broadway version better. "Here's to the ladies who screetch" lol
