  • I for some time have wanted to upgrade my knife and put a nice patina on it but didn't want to do it unless it was food grade. Well, wallah after some research here it is.

I’m curious, Avi (and please forgive me if it sounds like I’m trying to throw a wet blanket on your joy - which I’m not; I’m just puzzled)... what was it about that acid etching that you found desirable? What’s confusing me is that you said having the process be “food grade” was important to you, and yet, if you’re going to use an etched knife for food prep, I would think that those microscopic depressions that give it its visual appeal would also provide bacteria with the perfect places to hide & hitch a ride to the next point for cross-contamination. Am I mistaken?

Unless you dont keep a clean knife and just use things without thinking I would question any bodies knife habits. First off this knife was completely clean and steel open to rust if left as I purchased it which meant constant maintenance. By using this approach I did not have to be concerned with the rust factor as I did. And it turned out great! Still using and no rust issues as I once had being in a humid environment. And as for bacteria just keep it clean

Maccabbee Bushcraft Thank you for getting back to me, Avi. As a 2nd generation healthcare professional (and one whose stitches recently came out after a woodcarving accident), I guess I’m more aware of such things than most.
