One thing that really stands out is how effective he is when cornered against the ropes. Mayweather never seems to lose his composure and even uses such disadvantages to generate offense with his speed and anticipation. Even in the few times he did actually take some hard punches, he never let his guard down and start wildly swinging in a desperate attempt to recover. His psychological mastery from the signing of the contract until the final bell is also underrated.
Another thing that stands out is he carefully picked every fight making sure his opponents were out of their prime and old 😂

Facts. The dude was a ring genius. Never seen a fighter dodge and counterpunch perfectly as much as he does. He might be questionable in his personal life but when he steps in the ring, a shred of respect is given to his defensive skill.
The only fight he lost was against José Luis Castillo, everyone knows it.But they had to give it to him because he was the one who was going to give the millions of profit to this entire boxing industry.It's going to seem like he retired undefeated from the books but in The reality is, he knows that he lost that fight that night. & instead of the “Old School” Stacked/Crossed guard rolling & deflecting w/ forearms(which is easier than blocking or simply trying to evade everything, BUT takes consistent training to get the timing down)
Those guys would Instead do both as a hybrid, (Rear arm raised high & tight like traditional stance, Meanwhile having the left arm lower & tucked closer to the body like the Cross guard) mayweathers Fam basically just experimented w/ the guard & took it then ran with it, making it a common practice in boxing gyms all over the world

The reflexes and skills it takes to do what he did defensively is otherworldly. Especially when you consider the energy it takes out of you to dodge those punches makes it even more impressive.
That section from about 7:56 to 8:06 says it all, especially with Canelo's last punch. Mayweather's head was moving away and offline as soon as Canelo's shoulder started moving. Amazing vision and reaction.
In football we watched the hips to anticipate movement. I'm not a boxer so I'm no expert but it seems like he's reading the situation to anticipate the body movement. I didn't know that was possible.
@@elewie916 they say to watch your opponents body in boxing because punches come from the body. the fist is last in the physical chain. Everything starts from the core/legs. So when shoulder starts moving you know to evade cause a punch is most likely coming. that's why they say Don't wind up on punches too cause your shoulder goes back then forward aka more reaction time for your opponent. And after you throw a combo most fighters even world champions have a habit of throwing a random hail marry. Punch and hope they hit you.

Mayweather sometimes gets criticized for being too defensive and not just knocking people out left and right. I think people are missing the point. For example, his fight against Canelo was one of the most savagely dominant performances I have ever seen in the sport of boxing. Floyd is not saying "I am knocking you out". His performance said "You can't even compete on my level".
He’s levels above everyone even the all time greats. He looks superhuman in that ring from his punch selections, his dodging, his composure. He looks completely different to everyone in the ring.
The man took the ethos of hit without getting hit to its absolute limits. He should be recognised as a genius pure boxer.

Man I love Mayweather, I'm from Argentina and when Maidana lost twice against him I was mad because I hadn't any knowledge about boxing at that time, now that I'm training in box and I've found myself more confortable with being always with a high guard, tryng to avoid, block and wait the right time to land a hit I've started to appreciate Floyd skills and attitude like that mock at 08:36 when canelo hit the ropes. Maybe I'm wrong but I feel that it takes more skills to fight like him rather than having a heavy hand and throwing hard punches.

If people saw Mohammed Ali fighting AND then saw a Mayweather fight after, people would either fall asleep or walk out of the building.
Mayweather is a cancer for boxing. (1) He doesn’t actually box, he runs inside the ring (2) he’s historically picked his fights to fight washed opponents or inferior fighters to ensure he boosts his “undefeated” record.
Mayweather ain’t no Ali, Sugar, Tyson, Chavez Sr, Trinidad.

Floyd fights while running really. This is only highlights. In 1-12 rounds of his fight, he punches while backing up most of the time. In a fighter’s point of view, they have to really work hard to catch him. Floyd destroys them mentally first by crushing their patience because fighters really want a toe to toe exhibition. After that, Floyd just jabs them the rest of the fight. Smart.

Floyd was like the Napoleon Bonaparte of Boxing. He understood strategy where everyone else were playing with tactics.
Floyd was initially quite aggressive and KO'ing opponents and then he mastered every facet of the game. There's many greats, but Floyd stands alone in mastering the sweet science, he had EVERYTHING. Here he's made great, even HOF fighters look very average.
The offense was from his uncle Roger coaching style, his defense was from his dad's coaching style

Yea his personality is definitely the worst, it’s not welcoming to fans at all like I won’t wanna approach him. The popularity and game got to him or he’s just like that. But I respect him, he’s extremely talented like I watch him and manny and I see why he’s a better fighter. Manny depends on aggressive opponents for counters because he’s faster but mayweather was faster and manny was full of opening. People said he ran but it’s technique you avoid getting hit until you can hit.

By the time he was turning pro he was already elite level. Then fast forward 20yrs into his career and he still trains like he's broke without a dollar in his pocket. Most boxers are average, very few win championships and only one will become the best of an era. Why?! Training.

All Floyd ever needed was the opening 3 or 4 rounds to figure out his opponent's speed, reach, timing, rhythm, and reactions. Once he had those numbers plugged in, it was game over for the rest of the bout.

Floyd is a mastermind and surely the Einstein of boxing. He never boxes to emotionally, he sticks to his game plan, and his ability to make adjustments on the fly is just next level. I'm so glad I grew up watching this man box. He was undersized compared to most of his opposition as well!
