When you do things and you dont stop, thats how you get. even just walking. you notice how you see some people in their 60s that try to do less as possible and then they wonder why they need a scooter or a cane, or cant last walking longer than a block even though they are not obese or smoke cigarettes? then other people the same age looking 10yrs younger. You can tell Mike practiced that move at least a million times for it to be ingrained in his nervous system after all this time. The way he moves really is incredible. I still think he was the best in his prime.

@@aleksandar8090 You don't know much about Mike Tyson, so I'll educate you. Mike Tyson was in his "prime shape" while still with his trainer Kevin Rooney. After the death of Manager Jim Jacobs (Mar 1988) and his marriage to Robin Givens (Feb 1988) then firing Kevin Rooney he began to deteriorate. By (Feb 1989) when he fought Frank Bruno (36th Fight) the first time Mike Tyson said, "I'm surprised I beat him I was so out of shape but got the KO in the 5th." Once he left Kevin Rooney his skills deteriorated rapidly largely do to laziness and drug use (Mikes own admission) culminating in his loss to Buster Douglas (38th Fight) in (Feb 1990) that was billed as "Tyson is Back!" and it would be (April 1992) when he was incarcerated and served less than 3 years until (March 1995). He fought 4 bouts after Douglas including two with Donovan "Razor" Ruddock the second bout went 12 rounds and he won on points. Mike Tysons prime was passed before his incarceration and only because of his own bad decisions PERIOD. WE THE PEOPLE THAT WERE THERE SAW MIKE TYSON IN HIS PRIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The most dangerous 55yr old on the planet. Watching Mike move is like seeing poetry in motion. A true master.
I had to play it in slow motion to see the efficiency and scripted movements of his feet and body working together. While his feet are moving one way, his upper body is moving the opposite direction, so his body stays in equilibrium and he's not needing to transfer much force through his feet until after he winds up to throw the punch. I'm not sure if him or Cus D'Amato knew anything about Newton's Laws, but he sure is using every bit of it to his advantage.

Even today, after some 35+ years later, it's actually so enjoyable to the level of goosebumps just watching Mike in action. He's truly a one of a kind, a legend.

I know Tyson is a professional, but still… That trainer is one brave dude. The look of terror on his face after the first exchange says it all.. My man’s life flashed before his eyes at least 4 times.. Tyson makes even simple footwork look like an 8 course meal. Outstanding.
You are right. That trainer is a mma world reknown trainer that has trained some UFC legends. Joe Rogan was talking about him a few years ago. My point is IF HE has that look that you are talking about just imagine the look you or I would have.
You can see how unprepared the trainer was for his moves. The level of skill difference is staggering.

The amount of conditioning needed to fight the way Mike does is crazy. The fluidity of his movement is incredible.
muscle memory , that's why many athletes are training more than 16 hours in a day sometimes , the brain and the muscle stores those movements as they became natural reflexes with the time and very useful during competitions !
It’s has also been said the way Mike fought he wouldn’t last beyond 6 rounds. His style used a ton of energy.

And that's what used to make Mike the best was how eager he was to learn from and trust his mentors as a student of the sport. When he got away from that because Don King's camp did nothing but tell him he was invincible, and Robin Givens turned him into a depressed meat drone, he wasn't that guy anymore. It's great to see he's got it back again.
I remember watching Mike’s fights back in the eighties with a pint in hand with the lads in the boozer in my teens , those were amazing times , seeing him move like that all these years later is still fascinating to watch … he certainly is the champ , what a boxer 👊

I’m so glad I got to experience Tyson in his prime. I can’t speak on events before him but I haven’t experienced anything more hyped than a Mike Tyson fight in the ‘80’s and ‘90’s. Even the Superbowl doesn’t compare to the hype surrounding each fight

Mike Tyson has always gotten accolades for his power, his speed, but he has always been the total package. His strategy, his tactics, his footwork, his knowledge of opponents, his speed of thought... he's analyzing in real time and reaching instantly, almost as if he's not even processing it.
Let's face it, Mike Tyson had never really been underrated, but at the same time he's so underrated, ya know what I mean?

This is the power of footwork right here. Mike has dynamite in his hands but it was his ability to move that made him a champ.
His defense in particular, bolstered by his power and speed, is what made him the champ. Most folks ain't real boxing fans and won't ever really appreciate just what an amazing thing Mike being champ (as a kid no less) at Heavyweight was. He's a tiny heavyweight that really made it happen because of pure hard work. Which probably wouldn't have been sustainable. Unfortunately didn't have good people around him after Cus passed away, which is a real shame. Would have been amazing to see how history would be different if he had. No prison, no excess in the real world, sticking to his roots of defensive/explosive fighting instead of the pure offensive "forced" power we got after prison (largely because of laziness and poor training).
I still seriously believe that a prime Mike beats almost anyone at Heavyweight aside from a very certain type that may have given him issues. Older George Foreman, maybe Lennox Lewis, the Klitchkos in their prime, and Tyson Fury...which isn't a long list. Basically any tall and hard hitting HW, that also has a damn good chin and a strong jab to work off of. Definitely not Holyfield, who got the benefit of a post prison/post prime/ Tyson that he still fought fucking dirty. Shame Mike had to bite him, which while deserved, overshadowed the whole reason he bit him and the dirty fights Evander fought (both times).

I love the speed and power in a champion, but to me they're useless without a rock solid defense and he had it. So I guess he must have looked like an armored tank coming right at you lol scary stuff

It's the example of what the shorter fighter has an advantage. Larry Holmes can't hit what his hands physiology can't touch. As a smaller fighter, and someone who has done a lot of training with smaller fighters, you want to make the taller fighter feel physiologically uncomfortable by being outside of their natural range. And as for getting shorter... The natural mechanics of the taller fighter will see their natural punch mechanics sail right over your head... That's the point you learn from being shorter and training shorter fighters.

When I was a a teen watching Iron Mike in his prime, I thought his KO’s came from just his sheer speed, aggression and punching power-in later years I began to realize how technical Iron Mike’s style is. All those countless reps, drills and moves from his days with D’Amato are so ingrained in Mikes muscle memory he can call upon it at a moments notice-complete mastery of the D’Amato style-it’s a thing of beauty.

I love seeing Mike's technique getting some respect, he doesn't just punch really hard he used super clean technique that is not easy to learn. Now it's just second nature to him, he could turn that on and off like a switch now. what a legend!

Saw a Bad A MMA guy try to take a dude to the ground around a pool. Put the dude in his guard. Guy just picked him up a foot and slammed his head into the concrete. MMA guy was out cold. Point is every one of these disciplines is for very specific stuff. "what if a grappler takes you to the ground ???". Well he better do it someplace where the terrain can't hurt him. And he better make damn sure there's no friends around. And I'm not even bringing weapons into the conversation.
Irks me when people say he was just a slugger, that's the farthest thing from the truth. The man had superior technique.
At Mike's age now and how fast he is, I can't even imagine what his opponents were thinking when he was in his prime. He's moving faster than thought.

The fluidity and transitions are seamless for Mike Tyson. This is years of muscle memory. You'll never get that in just a few sessions this takes years of commitment.
Like he said , this was more important to him then food and sleep. I think 99.99 percent of people could not even put in the efford , let alone get the result.

Been boxing / learning the sport for over 15 years. Started for cardio reasons because I grew up racing motocross/supercross . I'm 35 now, very agile for my age, on trt and I can't come close to moving my hips/feet like he does . People have zero clue how special of a talent Mike actually is

It's something only true fighters have. They stand up watching and they look like a perfectly ordinary human being. They get into a stance and dish out an absolutely perfect combination with balance, evasive maneuvers, followup punches and counters in the span of about 1.5 seconds. One demonstration that lasts a heartbeat is enough to convince anyone, instantly. Like I said, only true fighters can do that. It's such a pleasure to see.

I can’t remember seeing a technical breakdown of Mike Tyson’s boxing. You really get to appreciate him in the same way as all the technical boxers out there when you realise he is not just brawn. Hats off to him. An amazing human being and a boxing legend

It's annoying how people think tyson is just some tornado or senseless bull that comes to kill you. Part of the reason he was (and still is) so good is because he's a very smart and intense martial artist. Not just any swinging idiot can step into the ring and be a champion.

Mike's combinations were so short and explosive. Amazing how he used his height to his advantage. Really cool to see that he still got the moves and that he really cares when he is teaching. Awesome fighter, awesome sparring.

Tyson’s knee flexibility and quad strength borders on unbelievable. He can sit/squat and duck and hop from one side to another and back again to deliver a knockout blow is so fast my brain can’t process the number of things he’s doing simultaneously. The quad strength to hop from side to side so fast while crouching amazes me.

Mike is a special athlete, you see how hard it is for Cejudo an olympic to grasp this footwork, you would have to train this from a child to be able to execute it in a real fight, you need to have talent to fight in this style
Mike at 55 and i still need to play it back in slow mo so i can actually see his moves. The guy never ages and still looks like a real power house. I love at 0:59 when he walks with head down waiting, reminds me of all those times he was waiting for the ref to count his opponent to 10!! Amazing guy!

Anyone observing tremendous athletes who think something is instinct or "can't be taught" have no idea what it takes to be the best. Practice, and building routines in the neurons as well as skeletomuscular system is EVERYTHING. It has become second nature because of how he was taught and how he practiced. Yes, some people have an inclination, or catch on to thinks quicker; some have better genetics, but without practice, it will amount to nothing more than an amateur hero.
Alright alright what I meant is it takes a very special person to achieve this level of skill. You can't make just anyone a Mike Tyson. You need the drive talent and fighting instinct on top of physical predispositions. You have to have IT you can't make someone become talented

I love how Mike "sat down" on his body shots and hooks. That's how I was taught. That's a big part of where your power comes from.
He is still so quick. I think that's the key to his power. He got clean shots due to being quicker than most of his opponents. That and his killer instinct, of course. No hesitation or doubt, just single-minded purpose.
