This was my favorite jam back in the early 80s. Anything off of the album 'On Through The Night'.This brings back wild memories.
That riff!!! Thanks to my favorite guitarist, Steve Clark who wrote all the music to this song đ„ RIP love â€ïž
Def Leppard had a rougher edge when Pete Willis was guitarist. It was the best lineup in my opinion, first 2 albums.đ€
Ya not a huge fan but I knew it was the wrong lineup in the photo
đŻđŻ
Pete was also on most of the 3rd album. Phil just added some extra solos I believe, but the riffs were all Pete.
Absolutely!!!
Steve Clark wrote this song and did the solo. They were a great band before Mutt Lange got his hands on them and ruined them.
Back when Def Leppard rocked and wasn't a commercial band.
Got that right mark!
you beat me to it
That was a very long time ago. Only on the first album.
@@adriantrusca1245 I'd say the second album too
The first two albums are Hard Rock Classics. Great song.
Iâm a Def Leppard fan who does not needlessly limit myself to a specific era like some of the myopic commenters before me. I celebrate their entire catalog, without attitude. đ
Brad and Lex, you 2 are the perfect Yin and Yang to each other. i love it. Brad is the Lyrics and Lex is the music. the whole package.
Lex, that's a later picture of a different lineup. They were kids in denim and leather when they recorded this, which had Pete Willis on guitar.
đșđ»đŸ had serious nerve issues and relied on the bottle.
@Coopiedoo Steve Clark was an even sadder one
Steve Clark wrote all the music for this.
I wish they were this heavy on their later albums.
Their High N' Dry album was just as heavy if not heavier.
@@Danimal77 I agree but after that commercialism started taking over.
Some serious hard rock on their first album, this the First Song I ever heard from them, first tune on that side of a damn fine debut, it supercharged the party I was at, a dozen or so instant fans of theirs were made. You can't go wrong with 80s Def Leppard for sure, try Mirror, Mirror from their 2nd album, another underrated track. Wasted just made my evening, Rock On! đ”đžđ€đžđ¶
New wave of british heavy metal, not hard rock.
The first 2 def leppard albums are their best, harder rock, they were teens when they made that album
These guys were babies (15-19 years old) at this time and a part of what they called the NWOBHM (New Wave British Heavy Metal) along with Iron Maiden, Saxon, Michael Shenker, Scorpians and more. They went in a more pop way then their peers did, yet part of that was cause of Rick losing his arm.
Scorpions and Schenker not part of NWOBHM.
Scorpions and Schenker not part of NWOBHM.
@@dancrowley488 Scorps emerged from the hippy shit to NWOBHM sound in 78, MSG also came out with that sound in 78, so I also add them in, they went with the trend and emerged among them. Sure they were German, yet, the sound is the sound, and the times were the times.
Scorpions** not Scorpians.
@@Danimal77 OKay, Grammanazi
This is the REAL Def Leppard!! No matter what Def Leppard themselves think, it was their heavy rocking sound that got them as big as they are today.
I LOVE Def Leppard! I mean the REAL Def Leppard! This is the REAL Def Leppard, before they completely sold out, which was in the middle of the Hysteria sessions as far as I am concerned.
My Cat Loves this Group...
I first heard this song about 1981. My friend's older brother had all of these import albums. Def Leppard On Through the Night, Raven, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Diamondhead and most of the NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal). Those of us who played guitar all learned this one. A few neighborhood bands played it perfectly. We all became Def Leppard fans and saw them live on the High n Dry album tour that year. That generation of music changed everything in the US....in only about a year.
This was from the debut album, back when they were a "New Wave of British Heavy Metal" band.
YES, but it's funny they DENY ever being NWOBHM
@@davidrehm9681 Buncha metal deniers... I remember them selling patches that read "heavy metal rules" under their logo
They was never NWOBHM read & watch interviews with the band.
@@jimmy-stourbridge-fc8980 So they weren't a new band playing heavy metal from England in 1979???
@@hmpz36911 they formed in 1977 & watch interviews with the band they said they was never Heavy Metal & didn't ever want to be.
Love it...Early Def Leppard was some of their best stuff.
All due respect, Hysteria is an all-time great album. PSSOM is one of the greatest hard rock songs of all time.
This is from Def Leppard's 1st album On Through The Night (1980). They were initially included in what was called the NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) along with Iron Maiden, Saxon, Motorhead, Diamondhead, etc.
Early Def Leppard. New wave of British heavy metal.
They were a bunch of kids at this time, wore this cassette out in my 71 Z28 !
When DL Rocked.
Glad you've begun listening to the early Def Leppard. They definitely leaned more metal than pop back then.
Do BRINGIN' ON THE HEARTACHE and the instrumental SWITCH 625 (which should always be played together). Awesome early stuff they still play live.
It is true. I remember going to see them in the pyromania tour and they had done this version different than the album version always thought it was the best way.
Ah yes, the good old days of Def Leppard with Pete Willis on guitar! I used to really like them!!
They were the band when it came to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Well at least for their first two albums.
Very early, raw and heavy Def Leppard and I liked it. Definitely became more commercial after the first two albums
Hysteria was borderline... more polished versiion of old selves. Adrenalize....I'm with you there... and like 1-2 after... their last two though... kind got back a little to the earlier sound.
I remember first hearing this on the radio when I was 17 and working in a fast food restaurant. And I was shocked to find out that the lead guitarist I think was almost exactly my same age and the other guys in the band weren't a whole lot of older. And I'm like oh my God and I'm hearing these guys on the radio and they're just kicking ass so hard? Of course I ran out and bought that first album, on through the night. And then I went to see them in concert and it just killed. I mean they were so good on that first album or two. I mean really really good. That's one of my favorite guitar riffs of all time.
You can tell they were young and hungry when they wrote this. Joe Elliot (singer) was 19 yrs old. Rick Allen (drums) was only 16. They didn't start to get polished until the next album when producer Mutt Lang took over.
The drummer is the guy with one arm. The singer is in the middle. (I think) the bass player is all the way to the left. (I think) the last 2 are the guitar players(see the guitars) and were so well connected musically, they could take turns playing led and rhythm, with-in the same song.
Thatâs correct about the guitarists swapping lead rhythm work
Pre-Hysteria Def Leppard had a more raw sound.... cool you guys checked this one out. I didn't start diving heavily into their pre-Hysteria albums till about 4 (?) years ago when they started releasing those box sets.... Their new stuff, and their last two albums specifically, are pretty good. But that early stuff... harder and more raw....
Along with rocks off, bringin' on the heartbreak/switch 625, this is my favourite from def leppard. Back when they was as hard as nails.đ
I can't listen to "Bringin on the Heartbreak" without immediately listening to "Switch 625", they just go together and shouldn't ever be listened to alone
@@chopps75 me neither, buddy.
Like Forrest Gump said, they go together like peas and carrots. đđ
Def Leppard: Mirror Mirror
*This is from their first album...my friend had me listen to it. Other than this song, I didn't care for the album as a whole. But then High-n-Dry came out...and he had me listen to it. Then I was sold. Remember; 1980 Metal differs from all Metal from following years.*
I would definitely consider this a metal song. One of their heaviest songs that I've heard by them. I would prefer it to be a bit heavier.
Thanks for this reaction! Never heard this one before...has an early 80's Metal vibe...kinda like Judas priest, Black Sabbath etc...
It was their first hit
@@BROU-bb2uc Where I lived the first hit was Rock Brigade
Actual first song I heard from them đ€
Def Leppard...before they went to sh*t. EVERY song on this criminally underappreciated album is a winner as well. The album- OnThrough The Night, went platinum too with a million albums sold...yet it took ten years to do it.
Man I think yâall are the ONLY REACTORS who have done this song !!now reach to The Rock Brigade off this same album back when Def Leppard was a Rockin band not a pole music band
Back when Def Leppard was a rock band, one of there best songs
Before Phil turned them into a pop band
*metal band
*their
Back when they really rocked. Great song. A favourite for sure
Def Leppard - Mirror, Mirror(Take a look into my eyes)
Joe Elliot was around 17 when he wrote this. He was only i6 when they write their first album. Think about that, that's awesome. đ€đđ€
Steve Clark... Seriously. Steve Clark wrote this song.
When Def Leppard still had balls. One of my favorite tunes from them.
Mine too
i never heard this stuff from Def Leppard. i never knew they rocked out like this.
Itâs from their very first album On Through The Night. A completely different vibe from when they were good. Rock Brigade is another killer song from the album.
@@josephgrijalva9395 They were originally part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, along with bands like Iron Maiden and Saxon, but they quickly ditched the metallic sound for the more commercial fruits.
wow. yeah i worked in record stores through the 80s. after they tasted fame and fortune they only tried to make hits after that.@@independenceltd.
Pete Willis on guitar(not pictured). One of the most underrated guitarist of all time. Listen to his harmonies. Magical.
Every body from Slayer, to Metallica, Megadeth and even Dimebag was a huge Peter Willis fan.
What a shame Peter is not recognized more
Steve Clark wrote this song. Steve Clark wrote most of their music.
â@@Nissardpertugiuyeah, considering Steve wrote most of their music. Like this song. They were fans of Leppard, not just pete.
Drunk 'N Dial has been around way longer than cell phones and women do it just as much. It's hilarious.
Donât worry a lot of people have a hard time labeling Hard Rock as Heavy Metal. You should react to Saturday Night (High and Dry)
Personally, I love every Def Leppard album. I love their early stuff, and their most successful records, but I reallllly love their 2015 & 2022 records. Some of the best pop rock around!!!
Couldn't have picked a better Def Leppard song. I love you guys, you do such an awsome job of picking tunes. This song could have been written about the on guitarist Steve Clark who died after a long battle with drug addiction. God Bless you both and Happy New Years!
The chat picks the songs during the live streams. A song gets suggested, often via superchat or tip, gets support from chat, then gets on a poll which the chat votes on.
You should join a live stream some time, it's fun hanging out with them.
It was alcohol addiction. He just sadly mixed way too much alcohol that night with strong painkillers that he had been prescribed for rib fractures during a previous drunken fall. He was instructed not to drink on these tablets but Steve was an alcoholic. Broke my heart when he died. So talented, and a kind and gentle soul who deserved a longer life with less demons. I grieve for him still, nearly 32 years later, as do thousands of us around the world.
Girls definitely do that. Iâm so thankful we didnât have social media in the 80âs
It's definitely metal.
Def Leppard's 1980 debut album 'On through the night' often gets overlooked in favor of bigger albums like 'Hysteria' and 'Pyromania'... which have all the hits... But early Def Leppard was outstanding as a hard rock band, despite being critically panned as a live band. This record still had some great songs like 'Hello America'... 'It could be you'... 'Rocks off'... 'Rock brigade'... đ€đ€đ„đ„And it brought them on tour in the USA where they found early success.
Rock brigade is my favourite
First three Def Leppard lps are a gift from God.
Never heard this one from Def Leppard!
True music
Yes finally!!! Def Leppard's first two albums were their best. Joe Elliott's vocals were better and Pete Willis on guitar!
This was considered metal back in the day.
Back when the drummer Rick Allen had 2 arms and Def Leppard had some balls.
This is some old classic Def Leppard.
yes!!!!!!!!
Really oldddd school !!
Steve Clark Killin itđ€
Clark and Willis beat Collen and Campbell all to hell
It's metal with a melody.
Def Leppard evolved into Suburban Metal, like GnR had "Welcome to the Jungle". Def Leppard had, " hey can we stop at 711, I got the munchies"
Robbie Williams singing Angels live at Knebworth. Don't listen to the music snobs. The fastest selling concert and the biggest audience in the history of music. 375000 people can't all be wrong. A true British superstar of his time. Let him entertain you all. Please.
Def Leppard = Light Alloy
Lex lex lex your perfect!! Love the song soooo much !!! But now i luv you!! Not a stalker just an old rocker đthanks for your Honest opinion !!!!!
This was the Golden Days of Def Leppard, before they sold out to the Industry....
When they had the brilliant late Steve Clark who wrote this song, they have never been the same since he died. They lost their soul when they lost him. Miss you Steve!
I won't argue that, he is greatly missed, but their sound changed drastically before he died. It was after Pyromania when Rick lost his arm.
@@brettkenschaft4239 I am talking about their sound up until Hysteria. Even though that is not my favourite album I do love Gods of War with Steve. HIs playing of the music for the song and not his ego made such a difference. He was the main contributor for their music which Elliott has stated on many occasions even though he likes to minimise Steveâs musical contributions now. They still trade on the songs that Steve either wrote or partially wrote, and have not had that success since his death. Hysteria sounded different also as Rick didnât play the drums, As far as I know they used a drum machine. And so over produced, compared to the brilliant High n Dry, which is my favourite.
@karen glenn High N Dry is my favorite from them too! Rick did play the drums on Hysteria though. They had to create a special kit for him to accommodate for his missing arm which is why it sounds a lot like a drum machine. I've always admired them for sticking by their mate but it definitely changed their sound.
@@brettkenschaft4239 Ive read in an interview by Joe Elliott that they used a drum machine. I also saw a record producer react to one of the songs from Hysteria and he was very puzzled as he said it was a drum machine. I wasn't there sadly so don't know.
@karen glenn OK, I guess technically some of it was set up like a drum machine but Rick operated it with one of his feet.
my fave deffy song. recorded in 1979.
they were known as the new wave of British metal! much heavier first two albums!
One of my favorites from them
No way) Reaction to my favorite song)
Might also like high and dry by def Leppard
Another great one guys! Eddy from Myrtle Beach
SC! Trying to catch up and then saw your vlog channel and couple months ago and baby stuff and reveal ! Love yâall ! Ubgot me through so many low days ! Take care and health To u and new addition
this is the first Album kinda sounds like OG Kiss "On through the Night"
I always thought this song influenced Metallica. The riff and the way Joe Elliott was singing thisđ€đ€
There is a clip of Kirk Hammett playing Wasted at a Metallica rehearsal.
Oh that RIFF !
Def Leppard was part of the British Heavy Metal invasion that also included Judas Priest
Actually Priest was around quite a while before Def Leppard. This song was '79 (I think) and Judas Priest started in the early 70's. DL was around the time of Iron Maiden though.
The pic is relatively recent. Phil Collen (black shirt) wasn't in the band then. This song is the original line up.
Early Leppard easily is my favorite .đ
Pete Willis!!!
1980. 80/81 this band was only like 19-20 years old
One of the best NWOBHM bands, only Pete Willis Leppard matters.
Leppard before they ditched Pete Willis & sold their souls for hair metal glory.
Rock Brigade and Wasted first big hits!!!. turned all my friends onto these tguyus.. High N Dry best album!!!.
Little River Band ..Cool Change. You'll enjoy the Sax.đ
Before they met Mutt Lang and went in a more pop direction, they were originally heavily influenced by punk
They was more influenced by bands like Mott The Hoople,T-Rex,Queen,AC/DC & Led Zeppelin rather than Punk but they did like the Punk attitude if you read & listen to interviews with the band.
They always said they wasn't NWBHM or Metal.
Mutt Lange and John Kalodner DESTROY music.
Lex, if youâre looking at the same picture Iâm looking at. The two guys wearing the guitars are the guitar players. The guy holding the Bass is the Bass player. In the middle is Joe Elliot the singer, which leaves the little guy is the drummer.
BTW the guy with the white guitar (Phil Colleen) did not play and was not in the band at the time this came out. The original guitar player was Pete Willis.
My absolute favorite DL tune đ€
Early Leppard..best era for them before they went mainstream.
For a record released in March of 1980 this was metal. There were only 2 other bands: Judas Priest and Black Sabbath that had a more intense vibe in half their songs at that time. All three of those bands were British so nothing in the United States was heavier than this in 1980. There was a band from Long Island NY called Riot who were just at the same level since 1976 but us Americans had nothing heavier to offer
Well Phil Collin is in the picture but Pete Willis was a member of the band on this recording
You should check out the Def Leppard song: Me and my wine. đ·đ
Hell yeah! It was a B-side to the Bringing on the Heartbreak single, right?
This is so old that Rick Allen still had 2 arms
Still got this single as well as the one with Getcha Rocks Off. We really thought they were going to be something in the metal world but then they sold out, becoming the crappy and generic - hey but it sold records and got the air play in the US so who am I to question what they saw as success.
đ€đ€đ€đ€
In 1980, this was heavy metal
The picture you have shown with the guys, is a later picture. Instead of Phil Collen (the guy with the guitar) there was Pete Willis. Yes, they were harder in their earlier days.
Yo Lex your hat looks like a platypus
I love this album, that being said, def Leppards vocals processed alot, even if they didn't rock as hard
Check out "Mirror Mirror
Ive always thought this song, and the on through the night album was pretty punk feeling
Thanks for one from the only good Def Leppard album. "On Through the Night" had Wasted, Rock Brigade, and my favorite DL song, It Don't Matter. This song got them radio airplay but as they progressed they got as far away from this sound as possible. It's hard to believe this is the same band that did Pour Some Sugar on Me. It's like watching meat rot.
Next time try "Rock Brigade", same album. It was also a radio hit in Chicago. Mutt Lange didn't have the chance to ruin that one.
