You're the idiot here. But you're probably a kid who thinks not stopping for a school bus is no big deal.
Think about it- the MASSIVE bus is painted BRIGHT YELLOW - the most visible color - and the amber flashing lights warn drivers 200 feet before the bus stop. At the bus stop, not only are there red flashing lights but a stop sign that POPS OUT from the side of the bus AND has its OWN red flashing lights.
You're an idiot if you think someone saying they didn't see that bus is at all excusable.

The lights on a big yellow bus, which are independent, fore and aft, no excuse for not seeing it (and I know that was the only type shown in the video). If it was one of those vans, though, that had the sign bolted to the roof and the one light shines both ways, it's possible to have that back-lit by the sun so it's hard to see if it's on or not. I only know that because it happened to me, and I got the two cars behind me in a fender-bender when I suddenly realized the lights were on. Luckily it was already only a 25 mph road.

I'm a retired school bus driver, I once had a stop in a semi rural area that has no curbs just a gravel shoulder ( it was also right across the street from a Jr High School) it just happens to also be a High income area I had been warned of an individual that would pass a stopped school bus on the shoulder and had barely missed students getting on the bus on several prior occasions, one day true to form this individual did it to me nearly striking and badly frightening a seven year old girl, well it just so happened that I was raised, with the chief of police of that particular suburb, and knew that a complaint from me directly to him would not be ignored, so I informed him of the situation, the next day the chief positioned his squad in a spot where he could clearly see the intersection but could not be seen from the main road well this idiot pulled his stunt again, and was quickly stopped and cited with a ticket that required, a court appearance, when the judge asked him why he would pull such a risky maneuver when he could clearly see the lights and the extended stop arm he replied " if I can't see the stop arm, I don't have to stop" the judge quickly disabused him of that notion and asked him if he had anything else to say whereupon he really stuck his foot in it with " I was in a hurry and I'm more important than a bunch of brats" hearing this the judge, doubled his fine, and suspended his license for a year. A few days later another vehicle pulled this same stunt, and the chief ( who was in the area on a different matter) happened to see it, again the offender was swiftly pulled over, the chief was dumbfounded, when he discovered that it was the first offenders wife, and he was sitting right next to her! This time the judge threw the book at them, suspending her license for two years, and ordering them to hire a chauffeur ,( which they could well afford) and told them that if either was found driving during their suspension, they would go immediately to prison.

In my area, where it's illegal for a school bus to stop on a four-lane road, and where drivers only have to stop if they are within 30 feet of the school bus, I get honked at when I'm passing slowly when they should be mad at the bus driver for not making a proper stop.
You'd still have to stop on a 4 lane road because each lane is only 12 feet meaning you would need at least three lanes between your car in the bus to not have to stop, but I seen this happen on 6 Lane roads with a concrete divider between them and those are the areas where I don't stop.
It really bothers me when people honk for the wrong reasons.
On the flip side, the school buses are usually rented out for tour events after school hours and they still use that stop sign. This one time I got stuck behind a stopped school bus for a good 15 minutes before I got out and noticed that it was loading and unloading adults and that for whatever stupid reason they engaged that stop sign anyway. Now that would be a situation where you should honk at someone who is stopped. The laws that say to stop for school buses explicitly say *when loading and unloading children "
That also means, for example, that when a school bus stops at a railroad track to open the door and look before crossing you don't have to stop for the school bus even if there are children on the school bus because it's not loading or unloading children. Again, that's for my area.

It isn't a court date in my county (I live in Michigan but have connections to California as well) but it does carry a $250 or so fine and three points on your license. Get four of these in two years and you lose your license for (IIRC) 60 days (in California it takes 12 in three years to lose your license). Get five and it is even longer. There is a misdemeanor version of failure to yield to a school bus but I don't know of any cops pressing that charge, they write the civil infraction version that doesn't go on your criminal record (cops hate to go to court to testify and prosecuting attorneys don't want to waste their time on such a minor misdemeanor when they can prosecute murders and rapes).

When I was a child a local guy found it neccesary to race his motorcycle down our street twice a day. My father knew the guy and asked him kindly to stop doing twice (sometimes even more) the speed limit which he rudely declined.
My father took matters in his own hands posting for a little bit (since the asshole was very punctial and most of the time) with a large doll (about 3 feet tall) waiting behind a parked car. When the speeding motorcyclists roared past my father tossed the doll onto the street causing the rider to react and crash his bike violently. Then my father picked up the doll from the street and calmly walked into the house...
15 minutes later the police came and wanted to talk about some trash being trown onto the street causing a bad accident. Many neighboors came out and started talking to the police officers claiming the bike rider just lost control as he was doing most likely 3 times the speed limit.
The police were forced to take a walk and the motorcycle rider (as far as I can remember) never returned to our street again...

I know its ridiculous it should be $250 at most. $700 for 50%of Americans is what they make in 20 days at work. That would make most people homeless if hit with that ticket

You need to do some research! If it takes someone 20 days to earn 700 they are not driving as they can no afford the car! And most Americans make 500 dollars in a week or less.

Jarid, how much for a hospital deductible if you happen to hit a kid crossing the street when you should have stopped?

I bet at that price it sends a nice message to stop next time.
