One of the things I loved about the twist is that before that it really felt like they original. The mom seems suspicious of Esther while the father loves her and doesn't suspect a thing. It lulls you into think that's it going to be a retread of the original with a different starting point (adoption vs. finding their missing daughter). Then that twist hits and it just becomes one of the most fun horror movies i've seen recently.

Duuude, I would love for there to be another movie like maybe one before she gets to the asylum? @@lastjedi7302 yes she did die in Orphan but they could make a movie showing her background like showing how she got to the asylum and her reaction when she finds out about her condition in her actual childhood years. Isabelle Fuhrman’s acting in ‘Orphan’ never ceases to amaze me; the fact she managed to competently portray a character as complex as Esther, in such a mature role and storyline, is beyond impressive. Retrospectively, it feels like she was such an under-appreciated child actor.

If anything, the fact that she looks older lends to the story and Leena as a character. This is her first time trying to disguise herself as a child, it makes sense that she doesn’t look as childlike as she does a couple years after First Kill. She’s mastered the act by the time she’s at the orphanage, about to be adopted by the first film’s family.

This is a great concept, I would love to see her as an actual child and then reaching puberty but not actually looking like a teenager/adult when she gets there would be an interesting reaction to see. Then she goes to the doctor and is informed of her condition. Even kinda want to see her actual family or at least where she came from. All great ideas if portrayed and executed correctly.

I had my preservations when I heard this movie was going to be a prequel. In the horror community we can't really say we have the best track record in terms of horror prequels.
So I went in expecting it to be generic, I thought Esther was just going to infiltrate this family pretending to be their missing daughter. I thought she'd manipulate the mother, seduce the father and then kill them all in the end, and end up in the orphanage.
But as the movie went on I found it really enjoyable, and the twist really solidified it for me. I'm glad that this movie was made, and I'd be happy to see another movie, maybe in the form of Esther going to another family before the events of Orphan (2009), OR, even before she ends up at the Institute in the first place.

I liked the new orphan! I liked the way it ended even though it was predictable. In the first movie she has a painting of a house that is on fire under the uv light so I was glad to see they brought that back.

Having a soft spot for early 2000's horror, I thought this was right up my alley including the choice they made with the color grading. I found it more fun than the first actually, and thought all the clever ways they tried to hide her age (including the obvious ones) were actually neat. Felt the heart that went into this and its definitely a film ill be thinking about. So glad they put this in theatres in the UK, I was disappointed when I had initially thought I would need to see it on streaming.

I wish we saw Esther childhood with her abusive father , as well as the first family we saw as apparently this isnt the first time Esther does this as the beginning would tell you as well as the boys with scissors.
As why couldn't this be the family that was in the picture of her last family during the secreat scene in the first movie

    @iJamieM Před rokem +1

My biggest qualms were that we obviously knew she’d win with it being a prequel, but it would’ve been more justified had it shown how she ended up even in the asylum to begin with to me. Hopefully the potential 3rd does that for us. Alongside that, the house burning down scene to me was clearly a cardboard cut out house, and when I looked it up it was exactly that. Other than that I was honestly really happy with it. Very hard to do a prequel well, so well done to them. Especially Isabelle and Julia! Their dynamic was really fun to watch.

And I def was rooting for Esther in this one 😂😭

The only thing that bugged me was that in the original, the man at the Saarne Institute was aware of her killing the family and burning down the house. How did he know this? Are we to assume there were more families between this and that's how they caught on? Just a little plot hole that I noticed, but otherwise, movie was great! Orphan is one of my favs so I was excited about this!

They even mentioned in the original that Esther’s original family died in a house fire. Predictable since the prequel was announced haha. Besides that I enjoyed seeing Esther on the big screen again after so many years and definitely have to watch the original again. Some of the cgi during the roof and fire sequence felt so flat and cheap looking but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Also the poor mother had to fall 2 stories on her back in both the Omen and this movie, legend.

I think ORPHAN was the most underrated movie since THE THING. I’m looking forward to seeing the prequel, though I agree that ESTHER would have been a better title.
No ORPHAN-related movie would be worth watching without Isabelle Fuhrman. Good to see Julia Stiles in a major movie again as well.

Suspenseful thriller with a twist. At one point you feel bad for Ether on how the family plotted vengeance on her. We all knew how the film was going to end. That's the thing with presequal's

  •  Před rokem

As soon as the twist was revealed, the first thing that came to mind was the parallels to the Jonbennet Ramsay case. And I agree with you-it's a comfy movie 😅 It's safe trigger-wise, it's at this point a nostalgic movie, and the humor isn't obnoxious (which is usually the case for me with humor in horror movies).

I do agree about the title. The beginning of the movie it's implied she killed a family before she was in the institution so that's technically her first kill & if they do another movie they can do that story so I believe the movie should have been called Orphan : Esther
