Great news! If you make a purchase from any link above, my channel earns a small affiliate commission from the site.
The brass fixture at 14:18 that you couldn't identify is what's left of a gas light fixture. When it was built, the whole house probably had gas lights. At that time there was competition between gas and electricity for lighting.
Exactly what I thought it was.
Thanks Jeff!
My 1914 house has several fixtures which were combination gas and electric lights. My guess is they didn’t yet consider the electric to be reliable enough.
@@kc9scott Brooklyn Townhouse?
@@waterviewadvisorygroup No, single-family house in Rochester, NY.
If I owned this, I don’t know if I could ever bring myself to trust anyone enough to rent it to them. It’s an irreplaceable historic treasure!
It seems like you would need more than money to rent this one. You'd have to also pair your wealth with your own character. I doubt they would rent it to five unrelated people each paying $3200.
I would vet the potential tenants very carefully and thoroughly, not just financially...but their characters and respect for historic homes, too.
Same
I love how the owner updated in the right places, but kept the true character of the home. I loathe when people do a complete gut of a older building that is as spectacular as this one, and make it all white and modern. In 10 years all those remodels will be outdated.
Thanks Kelly. I’ll pass your kind comments along to the owners.
THIS!!!!!
HIGHLY doubt modern "white" designs will be as out dated as this place.
This all white shit is already, insanely, dated but people are too, tasteless and lazy to make the change.
@@BlvckPapa : Can I ask what is wrong with people today, that you can't seem to bring yourselves to move away from this dead, boring, tasteless, shit?!
Wow. I've gotta say, this is absolutely spectacular. I love the mix of old and new architectural style. It's got enough character to be interesting, but enough modern touches to be luxury. That bathroom is gorgeous. And I'm obsessed with that blue velour window day bed. So huge, comfortable looking, and all of those wonderful built ins. I love it.
The valve in the closet on the top floor I believe was for the gas lamps they used to have. This house is so beautiful. The prettiest you have done so far. Gorgeous!
This is in Park Slope - I ride my bike through these streets all the time.. The Homes are Gorgeous!
This should never be a rental. It's too nice. I hope the deposit is enough to prevent someone from ruining it.
I agree. It should be sold outright to the right person/people.
Omg thins place is absolutely gorgeous! Whoever did the restoration & renovation,v thank you for keeping so many of the original details that you don't see anymore. The parts that were modernized still went so nicely with the rest of the house. While $16K a month is no chump change it's SO worth every penny. I know someone who would be drooling over this place!
Besides me, I think I know who you mean. They did do a phenomenal job with the updates and like you said, they blended in seamlessly.
I like modern kitchens, but that stark whiteness is out of keeping as is the treatment of the fireplace.
@bonniepwtf yep its he who knows his name lol
Well said
It's gorgeous and big enough for a comfortable house share.
I take it you have the $15,000 per month to pay the rent, then?
It is quite rare that the first thought I have upon viewing a place for rent in NYC is "worth it"; However, this place is so worth it !
This is so beautiful. That's my kind of space. Old world meets new world.
That "spout" on the third floor was originally a gas light fixture. I have that in my 1870s house.
Finally a place with character, stunning.
Finally a place that might actually be worth the asking price. So glad to see something besides bland New York modern.
What an awesome Listing 👍
Thanks Alan!
This is without doubt, the best video Cash has put out. That house is absolutely beautiful with its wonderful features and the obvious love and care taken in its restoration. Bravo, and if I ever win the Lotto jackpot, I would be happy and proud to live there if the owner wanted to sell outright.
For once, a completely charming and hugely erudite townhouse in NY. Not an inch of vulgarity on display…..🇬🇧
Thanks Mike!
Define "vulgarity."
@@ivanj.conway9919 It is not my duty to instruct you on matters pertaining to the English language and its comprehension. Purchase a dictionary.
@@mikewingert5521 : Mike, I asked for a damn, reason, OK?! My taste are proudly and unapologeticly OLD SCHOOL! Usually when people go on with crap like that, it means they hate any bet of character and charm the place may have, because GOD FORBID, you have an OUNCE, of colour, character and charm to a place anymore. Damn kids today, have destroyed everything. The world they are creating is as ugly and as cold, stark and bare as all sin. I'm beyond, fed up with it, and desperately, passionately, long for it to go out of style.
@@ivanj.conway9919 My sincere apologies; the power and the failure of modern social media to convey language leads mostly to its despoliation. Vulgarity…..a definition, my view, put simply; the owners haven’t ruined the property by being silly and modern. They have fought any urge to be persuaded by the ugliness of the 21st century. There are some delicious property exteriors in NYC utterly ruined by the interiors and so called progress.
Wow what a beautiful house! I absolutely love the renovated bathrooms, the wallpapers and most of all the original haunted closets/drawers, mirror and sinks!!
Cash, you are spoiling me. What a wonderful house. All the original features are there but it's been updated where necessary. Cool neighbourhood too. Thanks.
The neighborhood is meh, but so worth it for a place like this!!!
I'm less than 3 min. in and my jaw dropped!! I was thinking how on earth would you furnish this? I could see thrifting and refurbish your finds or deck it out in modern furniture, would that even work?
All if this said not knowing it's a rental!!?? WHY?? This place is to beautiful to be a rental!! 😮
In New York and LA a lot of times celebrities from opposite coasts will rent properties like this when working on long term projects there.
With a lot of fun
Really...you would need just the basics, very nice basics. The home has so much decorative character...that alone is enough for it to standout. You don't need much in "filling up" to make it beautiful and interesting. The built ins with all the storage is like furniture in itself. This is one of the very best homes featured on this channel.
Absolutely stunning. Still has the character and beautiful features.
Wow! A beautiful place. That's a residence for the rich and famous!
This old mansion is well constructed. The portion that looks like a basement could be used for someone who plays piano.
And a great in home 🏋️♀️ 💪 gym.
This one should be bought outright. Only an owner will make sure it remains beautifully done.
Nothing short of spectacular. AND they didn't destroy it over the years by gutting the high-end details like the wood. This one's a winner all around Cash!
Yes. And the floors are gorgeous.
Wow! That place is incredible. One of my top 5 ever on this channel. There'll be a mad rush for it; no doubt. Dream home.
Big thanks for the feature Cash! Loved getting to re-explore the property with you.
Hi Cash and your friend I am loving this NYC old mansion/ townhouse, I like the beautiful vintage stain glass windows and classic hardwood floors, Wow it’s near Applebees and my favorite Burlington stores. Great tour of the city. Stay well and safe 👍😀
What an amazing place! That daybed/entry room alone is WOW. Thanks for showing this.
Such a gorgeous house, I guess there aren't many of those around in the US? I live in a similar house, but in Belgium (Antwerp). It's a few years younger (from 1923) and it also has a lot of unique details such as the stained glass windows, high ceilings, wooden inlaid floors and stone floor tiles. In the living room there's leather (!) wallpaper with embossed flowers dating from 1918 - one of the first styles of wallpaper that were sold on a roll. The only difference is that we have a larger garden (around 3500 square feet) and the house is bordering on a park. The downsides are higher heating costs (even after insulation) and the fact that renovating the older parts is very expensive. Plus it's not easy to find craftspeople who can still do this. But I guess the latest part is not important when you rent a place. Great episode, Cash!
This is a beautiful gem❤❤
Cash is hilarious, always love his commentary. 😅. That said, what a stunning townhouse. The architectural detail is magnificent. I would lighten it up a bit, yet keeping ALL the vintage elements, wood and trimwork, lighting, fixtures, tiles, glass, hardware, it’s all gorgeous, love it. I’d like to have one like it in London.
Omg I'm only 10 seconds in and I want to live there, please, please, please. Big thumbs up👍👍👍👍👍👍. I want a great as well!!!!!!!
Gorgeous ❤! Being a designer I’m totally impressed by the quality of this townhouse! ❤❤❤
That was SPECTACULAR. The true charm of NYC. Love it
Wow if I win the lottery I would try buying it rather than renting it. Great mix of classic Victorian with great modern touch .
Wow, what a stunner!!!!! So much style and charm plus it's huge. Thanks Cash. 😊
What a fabulous place. Thanks Cash.
First NYC property tour that I actually think is worth the asking price.
Oh my goodness, l can’t believe that you were in my neighborhood and I didn’t see you! I live on top of one of the stores you mentioned, l’ve been here since May 2018... l have a balcony overlooking 7th Ave! Next time, you’re in the neighborhood stop by for some coffee! (Bring your wife and girls!) Carroll Street is absolutely gorgeous! (I was born in Park Slope in 1960) This entire neighborhood is fabulous!
That top floor is definitely haunted especially with that creepy mirror 😂
What a beautiful home.
Loved watching this. I grew up in Park Slope between 7th and 8th Avenues on Fiske Place. One of my school buddies, lived in a house like you show here. It's not a Mansion, but just a typical Brownstone Townhouse. My friends house looked much like this from the front, maybe it's it. The sink between the rooms, was common in Brownstones. There was one on each floor, for washing up. Back in the day, You did not take showers or baths as often as today. Even in a house as large as this, there might have been only one bathroom. That sink, is like the Wash Basins you sometimes see on top of Antique dressers. That funny thing you guys were playing with, is a gas outlet! Hopefully it is no longer connected! This is what you used to power your gas lights. I lived in a Flat in San Francisco that still had operating ones. We used to light them up for fun. Did not see if this was up on the wall, or down below. If below, it would have been connected to a lamp, by a rubber hose. This house has obviously been modernized. The ones I remember, were still original.
I love that they didn't paint the woodwork! The floor are beautiful! They did a wonderful job restoring it. For what you're getting the price sounds about right
If you could find 4 people you get along with this would be great. There is so much room you wouldn't have to see each other.
I think the 2 adjoining bedrooms would have been for husband and wife. Back in the day wealthy people had separate bedrooms. Spout was probably a gas lamp.
That explain upper floor lesser bedroom. Those could be meant for servant.
that is why back in the day the husband and wife lasted so long standing each others company maybe seperate bedrooms
It is a gas light fixture just like others are saying. I had an apartment with those in it but no one ever disconnected it from the gas line. I turned the knob and you could here the gas coming out. They should have it checked to make sure is safe.
What a beautiful building, both interior and exterior….. I absolutely love it!
Three minutes in and I'm in love.
That place is gorgeous not surprised it's only for rent If I was the owner I wouldn't want to sell it either 😊
I'd be nervous to rent this out. Its that gorgeous.
Luv this property all those original details magnificent
Beautiful . I really hope is rented by a person who has respect for the building it would be a shame if it got damaged by a bad tenant
Thanks Maria. Totally agree!
I don't love Applebee's. I occasionally eat there to remember why I don't eat there. Local restaurants, tell us more, please.
Being able to afford 16K for rent must be nice. This place is lovely.
I love this so beautiful! I love all of the original things. Just stunning.
The library of my dreams! The ballet studio! The espresso bar with poetry readings. The art gallery. My heart is pounding. I lived there in another life!
❤❤❤
Wonderful to see a property that has retained it's original features, it'san absolute treasure. I would live there in a heartbeat.
Whoever did the renovation should be put up for an award. Sympathetic job but with modern upgrades. Perfect.
Beautiful ❤
She's a beauty! I loved everything about it.... I would like for it to have an old-fashioned elevator that you have to open the doors manually and have the same gorgeous wood paneling and antique features of the rest of the place. I could never walk up all those stairs or down each day😊
The woodwork and detail amazing. Love the character.
I am I the only one who thinks you looked like Gilligan from Gilligan's Island today. 🙂 LOL. Great video today.
I’m in loooooove with this house 😍🧡🥰😍🧡🥰
Cash, the spout thing was part of a Gas Light fixture...before electricity. Had many in childhood house...grew up on Garfield Place, a little walk away...vid brought back great memories. Thanks
This place has been tastefully restored and updated, with its antique features intact and with an unobtrusively modern kitchen and functional bathrooms. I would be tempted to see if a clever architect could supplement the sinks in the jack-and-jill bedrooms to add a toilet and shower without destroying the beautiful woodwork, but otherwise it's well set up for a large family - or two families. This house has timeless class, unlike the overpriced places that have trendy glitz and glamour that will look dated a few years down the road.
It was really cool to see the old gas light next to the sink even if the glass cover is missing.
I love the house the neighborhood and the diffrent types of places u can go never get bored there it feels like nyc boston and Chicago all wrapped up as one
Thank goodness they left this beautiful interior! So many developers gut everything and paint it grey. This is just spectacular!!!
That bathroom with the green tile is VERY Italian. The towel warmer/dryer is in nearly all Italian bathrooms. Even the tile & tub are very Italian. I know.....I've been looking at Italian homes for a couple of years!!!
Absolutely Beautiful...I could only dream of living in a place like that...just stunning!
Wow! That restoration is extremely well done! Everything is pretty much intact, the beautiful woodwork not painted over in white and the walls weren't torn down for "open concept". The restorers kept the integrity and had respect for the character of the home. Absolutely gorgeous...a real gem. Many times, you see beautiful brownstones on the outside, only to be modernized inside...which is a shame. If I were fortunate enough to live there, I wouldn't change a thing. This is a great one! Now...that 16K a month...yikes. 😆
Incredible home. Oh if we were all rich the life we could have.
GORGEOUS! I've overdosed again in just thinking about all the Murphy's Oil contact odors I would get! BUT... I did not like how that kitchen was redone. To me, it is not aesthetically complimentary with the rest of the house unlike those redone bathrooms. Those were just BEAUTIFUL! Ohhhh... the wood flooring... those wood floors... I'd think I'd made it to heaven! I'm sure it's priced appropriately but I would NOT want to rent this property at $16K/month. I'd want to BUY it!!! So much character and detailing! This was a job (excluding the kitchen, IMHO) that was exceptionally well done!!!
I completely agree with you. Truly beautiful.
Ok I understand where you're coming from. But if you were just rating the kitchen for the kitchen what would you say? If you were to try to add the darker wood cabinets in think it might feel too claustrophobic, especially in the narrow end. Perhaps changing the countertops & island to a somewhere darker shade (possibly greenish) would help. I'm surprised that the white marble fireplace didn't bother you. V that I would have liked to see in a darker color. I'd have a hell of a time picking out furniture since it's not my usual style. I do know I'd have a large wooden circular table by the stairs. After that...I don't know
@@MamaCarola1 Furnishing it would be of NO PROBLEM for me! I'd start with Sothebys and choose some affordable pieces, then I'd see what I could pick up from the Horchow collection, and then I take a trip south to Thomasville. We'd work from there and build up. As for the kitchen, I'd do something interesting that I would love to hate BUT ABSOLUTELY LOVE... glass cabinetry with very thin and darker framing. That island would be a solid cherry or oak wood that would be protected from scratches, etc All of this would be custom made. The marble tile on the fireplace did sort of bother me but I chalked it up to laziness of the ID in trying to pick up some type of thematic from the kitchen. It works but doesn't, meaning that I could live with it. My issue would be finding the appropriate area rugs. I'd probably have to spend weeks in Karastan or fly to Iran or Turkey to find the perfect Isfahan and/or Kashan carpets. But if I could swing it I'd work closely with Ferahan Sarouk to come up with the perfect designs.
@sinash I was thinking along the lines of antique & vintage altho I suppose you could mix a few current pieces in. You can also get rugs from that period that are in pristine condition. If cared for correctly they can last forever. But are you saying that you would only have a wood countertop on the island? I'm still leaning towards a pale green, not necessarily marble, but it would lighten up all the darker wood cabinets
@@MamaCarola1 You can recreate your own antiques and vintage. Besides antiquing do you know how many artisans are available that can make solid, generational, etc furnishings? I might not necessarily go with a brand or famously known labels. I would most likely seek out artisans that can create (and take pride in their creations) of what I would want. Yes ma'am, I would most certainly go with a wood island. People faint over marble islands and so just imagine a solid wood island that would take 6 men at minimum to properly install and situate? The house could burn down, and the island would survive. FIND ME A SUITABLE TREE!!!
Stunning !!! Thanks for the tour !
Love all the character this building has. really beautiful. Just too much money
Looks like an original gaslamp valve. It's of course not in use anymore but a great historical detail.
Amazing place!! Thanks for sharing!
WOW! What an incredible place - all that original timber detail was just gorgeous. Oh, and that weird spigot up on the walk-through closet wall? Looked like the remains of a gas light wall fixture. A truly lovely property. Thanks.
Cash- So glad to see such excellent preservation of so much classic architectural history. Thank you for always offering your viewers such interesting content.
Keep going!☮️👏👏👏👏
Terrific building and a terrific video. Thanks!
That place is gorgeous!
Wow! It's stunning!
I love this place! I wonder who built it?
Wow!! Gorgeous!! So huge!!
Beautiful finishes throughout. Reminds me of the house in The Royal Tannenbaums.
This property is absolutely beautiful! I love all the old details that were kept and the quality decor like the hand painted wallpapers that went into this restoration. What a great place to live!!
A banana split is health food. Fruit and ice cream(calcium). Perfect 🥰
So amazing, I am so happy to see original woodwork and features have been preserved.
THAT would be my dream home. So classy and sophisticated. It’s gorgeous.
Amazing! So beautiful.
Wow, you have been showing some very cool places, love it.
This place is amazing!!
Amazing home, I am gobsmacked by this one!!!
WOW!! Such a nice find
When I think of New York Apartments' this is what dreams are made of. charm and class. Stunning!
Omg absolutely stunning
Uniquely put together a little bit of old.. and a little bit of new😉🙌🏾..I love it😁
Nice tour!!!
I love this townhouse, I love all the unique characteristics that they don't use in homes anymore. Thanks for sharing.
That is a very nostalgic place to live period reminds me of my grandmother's house.
This house reminds me of my grandmother's house. Same era and many similar details. Gorgeous 😍
Just magnificent!😍
The word is STUNNING!!! I am concerned who the owner would rent to. It has to be someone who is really loves it and will take care of it Money does not mean you have class. I hope they get a whooping security deposit . This to me would be like I died and went to heaven. Can you imagine this home at the holidays.
Not in my lifetime. Maybe many lifetimes. AGAIN STUNNING ❤️❤️❤️❤️
