The 2024 Acura TLX Type S is a luxury sedan that is also sporty! It's a great daily driver, has plenty of power and roomy for passengers. The 2024 Acura TLX Type S looks like a normal sedan (aside from this bold color combo), but underneath with the turbo V6, this is a powerhouse! The 2024 Acura TLX is a nice family style, everyday sedan that is comfortable to drive and very practical!
The exterior on the 2024 Acura TLX Type S has a great look to it and especially with this new grey and the bronze and red accents, makes it a sharper looking sedan! The interior is also nice with the bold red leather seats and some great technology to use! Acura in general isn't the most technology focused and that's great for a buyer who doesn't need all that. It's easy to use what is available and you have the creature comforts you would want for the price. The only thing missing is a heated steering wheel which would be nice.
Driving the 2024 Acura TLX Type S as a normal commuter is great. It's comfortable and smooth and even quiet in the normal settings. When you go into sport mode, the car livens up, the exhaust gets a bit louder, and the performance and handling is amazing. Definitely not something I was expecting, but this is a "Sportscar". It was amazing to see and feel how this Acura TLX can take the twisties that I put it threw! If you are looking for an understated sedan but want some performance, this Acura is a great option especially against some other more luxury focused and performance sedans. It definitely will give them a run for the money!
The 2024 BMW M340i packs the B58 engine paired to a mild hybrid system. With 382 Horsepower and 369 torque, the M340i can do 0-60 in 4 seconds! This 2024 BMW M340i was finished in Mineral White Metallic over the Cognac Sensatec leather interior. I really like the shadow line package with all the black accents for the exterior and wheels! The M compound brakes have the red calipers and overall this is a sharp looking sedan! Driving the BMW M340i is about what you would expect. It's an easy car to drive and very smooth and comfortable. Tech works well and doesn't take too long to figure out the big screen. I like the power you get out of the B58 engine with the mild hybrid system. Very smooth delivery and you can tell the M340i has a perfect blend of comfort and performance. This car is also not too aggressive for daily driving. In comfort mode it feels like a basic 3 series. So very easy to live with on the day to day. Significantly different than an M3 for sure!

@@BrosFOURRSpeed BMW may have a good year here and there for reliability, but Acura and Lexus have decades of reliability associated with their brand. I would never trust German brands for reliability until they have a solid decade under their belt.
That Acura is so sharp-looking. Both are really great cars. The TLX needs a touchscreen.

The styling of the Acura is so much better, but the performance of the BMW is unmatched in this segment. I would get the M340i, just because it’s so stupidly quick lol
Easy to say when the Acura is sitting next to a base M340i with no exterior add ons.
I test drove the m440i yesterday which is basically the same car as the m340i and even though it's quicker than the Type S it was not more fun to drive
I drove the Acura and it’s amazing. Also lots aftermarket parts to make it as fast as the BMW.

@@drivescene6747yes historically they have been lazy with anything other than a civic or integra. However, there are people getting large gains with bolt ons let alone a tune. It’s sad considering the internals of the type s are forged and capable of huge power. I like the BMW, but it will be a money pit.
This is a tough one. The M340i comes with a pretty steep price premium, comparably equipped. But the driving experience in the M340i is just superior. If Acura upped the HP in the Type-S to around 400hp, then my opinion may change, but the power and refinement from BMW's inline-6's is just undeniable. I do like the styling of the Type-S more.

Probably the Acura for me. I think the styling is way better, bmw might be faster but I’d pick the type S
I just wish the Acura was easy to tune for more power. Plus it’s 10 speed is weak and has many issues.

@@lexisnep525 If I want a tuner car, a 4 cylinder won’t even be on my list. Thats why I have an RS3 and it’s insanely fast after mods. B58 car would be my second choice.
A 4 cylinder is not even in the same league. So Integra would not even be a choice.
I bought my TLX-S almost a year and a half ago. For the money, I don't think anything can compete with it. But in fairness to BMW, I did not even test drive the M340i. I'm sure it's a great car, and arguably a better car, but it's a lot more expensive to buy and to own. I knew I wanted to purchase my next vehicle, not lease, so I went straight for the Acura. Zero regrets.
Glad you enjoy it! Nothing wrong with owning a BMW, I own one, I’d never lease. But both are fun depending on what you want!
Maintenance on a bmw is cheap as well.

Great review! I owed the first gen TLX and like how they’ve improved it, but don’t think I’d go back. To emphasize your comments of using both as a daily driver, I think the Acura falls short significantly over the M340i in fuel economy. The practicality of the B58 given its performance, is impressive.
Acura styling is much better imo but the bmw beats it in every other category and it isnt even close

The TLX-S has atrocious fuel economy. It's almost as bad as a M3. In fact, the M340i is on par with the 4 cylinder TLX for MPG.
It wasn't bad over the week I drove it around! Did all these comparisons and reviews on one tank!

I have a ‘23 Type S, it’s not for everyone but I absolutely love it! That M340i is pretty sweet, but I can’t get past that dashboard. It’s like they bolted the biggest iPad ever to it. Yes I know it’s faster than my Acura 😅
Don’t feel left out. I do agree the M340i is a much better performance car to the Type S but after driving it and almost buying, not by much which is good for Acura. B58 may be a great engine but I’ll bet it won’t outlast a Honda motor! I ended up getting a 23 TLX Type S and it may not be the fastest but it sure as hell competes REALLY well and that’s what I’m impressed about. To each their own.
Type S has better looks/presence/sound system/cooled seats/awd standard.
Beemer is quicker by every available metric.

It’s interesting how most people are stuck on styling as if this is how most M340i’s look. This car has no exterior upgrades or interior upgrades. It even has the smallest wheels you can get on an M340i.
Yeah there are some nice specs of the M340i out there. This wasn't as nice looking compared to the Acura in this video. But overall fun cars to compare
Exterior and interior looks, Acura wins. Engine and performance goes to BMW…. they should have stayed with traditional dash/console look with real buttons for climate control. But I will pick the Type S because of my preference to look and reliability over a tuner. 355hp is enough and Type S has more exclusivity than M340i.

thats what i said at first lol. but the slowness along with the bad mpg made me switch to the m340i, as far as exclusivity everyone likes a tunable car but i have seen equal of both cars tbh. 355hp is enough on a car that weighs maybe 3500lbs not 4200lbs.
U can def make the m340i look alot better with some cheap aftermarket parts put on it.
Of note, 355 HP on the TLX TypeS is measured at the crank. 382 HP on the M340i is measured at the wheels, and it feels much more powerful than that. The M340i is much faster. It’s not even close.
@@madpistol I totally agree with you. About 20 years ago 3 series has 225-ish hp while TL has 250-ish hp. My point is, BMW winning formula is increasing horsepower while Honda/Acura is still into reliability, longevity, a cheaper premium option.
Acura looks way better with superior reliability.

I wouldn’t agree with that statement. BMW’s are pretty reliable. The B58 is the most reliable and used bmw engine.

Not sure I can agree. I owed the first generation TLX and had my share of reliability issues. I have a A5 Sportback that I’ve done nothing to but annual maintenance. BMW is in my line of fire this time.
@@ToddRGuy your 1st gen TLX is an entirely different car than the 2nd gen TLX. The first gen was an Accord with a faulty v6 engine and terrible zf 9 speed, but the 2.4 with the dct was bulletproof.
This new second gen is on its own platform with a variant of the Type R motor as the base motor and with a much better in house built 10 speed auto.
I really love the Acura TLX, Acura hit the nail on the head with their design it just looks a lot more aggressive.

I’ve driven the BMW 6cyl, it’s unbelievable. The low end torque and overall power delivery is fantastic. Have not driven the Acura, but it’s hard to imagine a powertrain better at this level.
Yeah the B58 is a solid car! This Acura was pretty cool too tho even tho it's a slight step below. But owners seem to really like both of these cars

Acura has the better seats, door materials, better comfort drive. That’s it. BMW kills it in everything else.

I've driven both, and the TLX felt slow compared to the M340i. I know that's not the case, but for some reason, the TLX feels less eager to respond in normal driving. I'm sure it's better in Sport, but I still prefer the BMW.

When you are cornering at some point you will realize that you’re driving a Japanese car. Not to mention that BMW known for lying about their HP so that legendary B58 definitely puts out more than 382 HP.
Of course BMW's usually do that, but since I can't dyno the vehicle, just going off what the manufacture states. Not sure your point on cornering though..

I like how the TLX looks. It has a solid road presence compared to anything in that segment, and the ELS
sound system is one of the better ones. SH-AWD is also one of the complex AWD system for fun back roads but is really heavy for a Conpact-Midsize Sports sedan, also the transmission tuning in manual mode is not as precise as ZF. BMW powertrain is solid, and the xDrive system is great as well. But it looks so plain for a performance version, and the tech inside is a little too much for me. M340i feels more like a lease machine. And again, it's the mid-tier version, so there will always be a want for an M3. It is very hard to decide between the two.

M340 for its amazing drivetrain and the ability to modify with ease to gain some huge hp safely. Reliability has been great on these.
Type S for those who want to be different and are ok with having no more power than 355 hp. Bad things are It’s not a tuners car and it’s transmission is it’s weak point. Its mmi touch pad is awful. Overall great car with amazing handling for a daily driver.
So if one’s main goal is 500hp plus, the BMW is the bargain. DP and tune is under $1500.
For the Type S to make 500 hp, you need to change heads, manifold, turbo, etc. that’s about 20k extra. You do lose your warranty as you have to change half the engine. Its major problem will be transmission breaking with that power.

I currently own a 2012 R8, zero issues, had a 2010 before that. My brother has had 3 Audis, currently an rs3, zero issues with any of them.
Coming from having the TLX-S to the m340i I can say that this review seems like they are getting paid by Acura or something, First the curb weights are reversed as the TLX is the heavy pig compared to the m340i plus the rear legroom is worse on the TLX compared the m340i, also worst on the TLX thats never mentioned is MPG and the TURNING RADIUS!!! Acura needs an extra 80hp/80tq to compete with the m340i. I also prefer the trans on the m340i and the tech as well.
Yeah I mixed up the curb weight, honest mistake....but I'm not favoring the Acura by any means, not sure why you think that....first time ever seeing or reviewing the Acura, I've been around the BMW for years reviewing and driving them... legroom would be a personal opinion, they were both similar as I showed in this video...in a performance sedan, mpg isn't really worth mentioning...if someone cares about that, it's the wrong car to buy.

Obviously we not comparing to a hybrid Accord. Leg room is worth mentioning to a potential buyer that is taller than 5’8”. Nothing should really be left behind if not it just becomes semi biased at that point. My 2 cents

These are outdated cars. Simply get a total price 33k New 2025 Camry SE and it’s pretty complete at that price. It gets 50 miles per gallon. That puts you at 1994 gas prices.

@@joeblacc8573 because I have a better sport than than both of you I have a g37 and my 5 second 0-60 isn’t worth it not having the gas mileage and all the advances of this new car for that low price.
The B58/ZF powertrain is better in every single way over the Acura's. The Acura will probably be cheaper on the lot then a M340i and looks nicer. Interior is better in the BMW. You mixed up the weights too. The acura is 4200 and the BMW 3900. Acura is way too heavier. Overall the BMW is better.

The curb weight of the 340i is 3968 for awd.
