You should be a tiny bit offended. I forget who said it, but they were right; comedy should make you a little bit schizophrenic. You should laugh freely, then think, “oh my god, I’m a terrible person”, then laugh some more. If it doesn’t offend some part of you, it won’t be funny. That said, I agree with your comment.

And the room was packed, cos he was a well known & very popular comedian. OMG, my face was actually hurting I laughed so much. This lady, who was sitting next to me (she wasn't in my company, but that'd how packed the club was). I swear to god, she didn't even crack a smile! 😳not once. Me & my friends were crying with laughter. I don't know who we laughed harder at. The comedian (who was hilarious btw.) Or her (miserable little effer) 😳🤣🇬🇧

In the old days, you didn't have to tell people that a comedian tells jokes, they knew they were jokes, and if you didn't like it, you didn't watch, you used the OFF button, people have become so sensitive and humourless, and look for things to be offended by. I have always said that there is nothing that can't be told as a joke.. Look up Dave Allen, you will weep with laughter.

    • @hellsgate09
      @hellsgate09 Před rokem

To be perfectly fair, in contrast to the masters of old, so to speak, everybody thinks they can be a comedian these days. So this results in people of subpar intellect, wit and charm telling 'jokes' pissing all different kinds of people off for all different reasons. This inherently raises the floor of what people are willing to tolerate.
However, that is the ultimate fate of all things. Time is the bane of all and change is inevitable.

    • @sullenskulls9709
      @sullenskulls9709 Před rokem

The truth is, the old days were not so different in this regard either. The kinds of people that got upset or offended at the silliest little shit always have, and always will, exist. The difference is, that we now live in a world where everybody's views are much more public, and much more far-reaching globally/socially/culturally etc.
Add to that, the well-known (just ask anyone who has ever worked in the service industry) fact that people are far more likely to share their opinions when they disapprove/disagree with something, than if they like it.
And finally, add to that the fact that the entire online revenue-earning structure is designed around the concept of getting as many clicks/views as possible, and you have a recipe that is perfectly designed with making sure that the people with the most extreme opinions have the loudest of voices.
This is new, and there are some people who haven't grasped the exact point made in Ricky's joke, that there are things that you would happily say to your mates that you wouldn't say to your grandparents.
All of which combine into the current cycle we are stuck in right now:-
      - Someone says something in a public forum without any filter
      - Media/Online industry makes sure it gets shared as widely as possible
      - Some people get offended
      - Media/Online industry makes sure everyone knows that people are offended
      - Some people get offended by the fact that some people were offended
      - Media/Online industry makes sure everyone knows that people are offended
      - First offended people are now offended by the fact that not everyone thinks like them
      - Second offended people are now offended by the fact that not everyone thinks like them
      - Third group of people are now offended by the fact that some people are not as understanding/empathetic towards others as they are
      - Media/Online industry makes sure everyone knows that people are offended
      - 1st/2nd/3rd groups all now offended by the fact that others are now offended
      - 4th group of people now offended by the fact that so many people get offended these days
      And so on.......
How do you stop the cycle?
      1) The idea that tends to get pushed out in public most often is that you should stop saying the offensive thing that started it all. And whilst this is definitely an angle where some people definitely need to learn the difference between saying things privately, and saying things publicly, again, as per the entire point of Ricky's joke - know your audience!!
      2) The ideal world solution, to realise that there are many people out there with different views and beliefs, and just because you disagree with someone, doesn't necessarily make you right, or them wrong. In a civilised society everyone would just be able to calmly "agree to diagree" and move on with their lives. Probably never going to happen, because there will always be people out there who are so passionate/stubborn about their views that they will never be able to accept that a differing opinion is also valid.
      3) The most likely to work, but easier said than done. Stop clicking on the articles that offend you (regardless which of the 4 groups you are in), therefore disincentivising the clickbait ad-revenue structure that has been designed to inadvertently cause so many offended parties.
Again, society hasn't really changed, it's just that social circles these days cast a much wider net than before, so what you say, do, hear and see, will definitely have an affect on/be affected by the types of people you never would have met in "the old days".
In general, knowing what the underlying problems are, rather than focusing on the superficial surface level bullshit, applied with a little common sense, and a smidge of empathy towards others will make a huge difference to everybody's lives, but its definitely not easy to do. But the only way to get there is to take baby-steps, and focus on how you can do better (which lets face it - we all can - if there's a single person out there who doesn't believe they need to be even a little bit better, then they're a shitty person) , without worrying about how other people are worse.
But hey, this is all just my opinion. Happy day to you all.

going to a stand-up comedy show is like eating in a restaurant. you go there, pay for the service and try what they have and the way they prepare the dishes. if you don't like the food that they serve, you won't go there again. but you definitely don't blame the cook for not preparing their food the way you like it from home. so yeah, i don't understand why people complain about comedians. you don't have to watch them if you don't like them.

    My joke:
    First World War.
Two soldiers are hidden in a trench on the battle front.
Suddenly, a grenade thrown by the enemy falls into the trench.
A grenade that explodes tears off one soldier's right arm and another soldier's lips from ear to ear, but miraculously does not otherwise seriously wound him.
Moments after the explosion, when both soldiers recover from the shock, the one with the torn arm looks at the other with the torn mouth and says to him:
"You fool, you're laughing here now, but apparently you don't even realize that the explosion could have killed us both"
