@camronking7947 that's not how it works bro. It's their freak athleticism that makes them NFL players. These guys are 270 lbs and can run 100 meters in 10-11, 40 yard dash in 4.4 seconds, jump 38 inches vertically, and bench 400 lbs

The thing about Henry that really shows how insane he is, for me at least, is that usually when you see a 60, 70, 80 yard play in the NFL its because there was a bust in the defense, like one missed tackle early or a coverage error. Most of the time on those plays the guys are running clear of almost anyone but teammates. But for Henry, in most of them he just trucks, stiff arms, and jukes the whole way down the field. He doesn't just execute and luck into big plays, he CREATES them, and usually violently. It's fun to watch.

He does it a lot to the Jags, he also doesn't look fast but if I'm not mistaken they clocked him at 20.69 mph either against Houston or the Jags
Henry has more hold my dih type runs than marshawn at this point
Henry's long TD runs are largely due to the fact that defenses have to put 8 or 9 bigger guys near the line of scrimmage to stop him as a short yardage threat (see, e.g., .@10:44, @19:10, @23:53, etc.). Henry's ability compels defenses to play this way, but compared to other RBs, Henry only needs to make one man miss and he has fewer DBs to outrun to the endzone.

I think there’s only 6 players in history that have ever reached 2000 yards rushing in a season. He’s still a top (if not the top) RB in the league. If titans have the lead in the 4th, they will run almost every play with Henry, and because the defense is typically tired, he closes out the games
@@DNReacts not only did he reach over 2k the next year, but the year after that he was on pace to easily pass 2 thousand again! He had like 1000 yards by game 7 against the colts and his foot was broken! He still finished the game but it ended his season, he would’ve got MVP for getting 2k back to back! And last year he came back from injury and nearly led the league in rushing again he was 2nd. I love DH22

One of my favorite things about Henry is that he's a generally quiet guy. He doesn't trash talk very much, and when he does do it, it's not in public. There's no drama with the guy, on or off the field. He's all business all the time.

That direct snap to the RB is called the wildcat formation. It’s not used much. If it is, it’s typically used in college, not pros, since it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what the play is. When you see a team running that, you know they can do whatever they want 😂

@@user-hn3hl1qo8b help me out here. From what I understand, the wildcat is a derivation of the wing t. So what makes that one a wing t vs a wildcat? I thought every time you’re in “that” formation where the rb takes the snap, it’s wildcat. That’s what it was always called with Malzhan at AU anyway.
@@JBB685Wildcat formation is any play where another skill player snaps the ball (typically the RB) other than the QB. It's what you use to mix match skill players and keep the defense guessing....but really it's either your passing game is trash or the other team's defense is sorry asf

Another crazy thing about Henry is that people might think of him as a big, bruising runningback, but he has way more long rushing touchdowns than anyone else in the league during his career. He's not just running over people, he's dancing around making tacklers look silly.

Long runs he has arent from juking anyone really. He is a bruiser. And he’s known for stiff arms not juking. He hardly has any lateral movement
Henrys career is really interesting. During his first two season in Tennessee he wasnt viewed as anything other than a dissapointing running back, until that 99 yard run against the jags in year 3. Completely shifted his national perception and confidence. He became unstoppable for about a two year period

Yeah but he sat behind Demarco Murray for two years which explain why his numbers weren't that great. Murray was still pretty solid at that time.

In today's NFL, Running backs typically don't go in round 1. RB production typically fall off the table at 30, they also are a highly injures position due to the pounding they take. So mostly they at round 2 and later..

The direct snap to Derrick Henry is called the wildcat formation. It's often paired with a trick play, but doesn't have to be. The idea of it is that you get your star player the ball faster.

The funny thing about him running over the Jaguars over & over is that is considered his hometown NFL team. Yulee Florida is just outside the city of Jacksonville. 😂 He probably grew up watching the Jaguars on local TV and listening to them on the radio.

He played in small town football. He was bigger than some opposing team's linemen. It really wasn't fair.
I was at the University of Alabama and had a few classes with Derrick. When the pundits say that TV doesn't do him a justice, that is the understatement of the century. He is an absolute UNIT of a man. He's the only one who has to turn his shoulders to walk through a single wide door I've ever seen.
In the 2020 season he also became part of the 2000 yard rush club. Has only been done by 8 players including him. Strange that the documentary never showed that.

I've been an Alabama Crimson Tide fan since my first breath and it was amazing to watch him play. I actually saw several games he started in and the video doesn't do him justice lol. He was o easy to pick out on the field with his massive size. He absolutely ruined a defender when they played Michigan St in the semi's. Made a 250 plus defender do a cartwheel. It was beautiful. Glad to see you guys checking him out. He's gonna go down as one of if not the best running backs of all time. Keep the great videos coming and Roll Tide!
I saw Derrick Henry in person at an A-Day game. I was 6' 245 lbs at the time and when i stood next to him, i looked like a 10 year old. He is so much bigger than you could imagine.
They ought to check out that Nissan "Heisman House" commercial about "The Derrick Henry Effect." It's real. First named after a viral photo of fellow Heisman winner and Bama alum Mark Ingram standing next to him on the sidelines at and Alabama game - Ingram looks like his nephew or something, and he was a starting NFL RB when that photo was taken.
That Ravens game still hurts my soul man, fully believed we were winning the bowl that year. Henry just killed the Ravens defence that game. Destroyed them. Earl Thomas (The guy who got stiff armed twice in the same play, and turned into a lead blocker) never played another game again. We got payback in the playoffs the next season, but that performance by Henry was an all-timer. All hail King Henry.
Nah, Henry was the least of our problems that game. Jonnu Smith becoming prime Travis Kelce and a lucky tipped ball pick are what actually made the difference in that game.

@ljvwright The reason that's not the biggest problem is because that was the Titans' gameplan, if both teams had executed their gameplans, the Ravens would have won. The issues came where the Ravens failed to execute their gameplan, and the Titans went above and beyond theirs. Also, Henry having a touchdown pass is literally meaningless. The Titans didn't need him to do that. They let him do that because they were being cute.

I love this! I went to Alabama while he was there. Alabama has had many freaks of nature on the field, but I have never seen anything like Derrick Henry to this day
Derrick Henry is from my hometown, Yulee, Florida. I went to middle school with his little brother, Donovan. Nice kid, dude was huge back then and probably even bigger now. He always idolized his brother. Great video!

He's in a LB body. Henry is big but he's not that Big. DE are typically 6'4 270 on average. Henry is 6'3 250. LBS are 6'3 240 on a average.
I like to joke that Alabama made our great players in the secret genetic lab under Coleman Coliseum, but Henry already looked like that when he got there. 😳
You guys are right around 11:15. Even though it wasn't too bad, it should've been offensive facemask. You can push the facemask on the offense, but when his finger hooked and pulled a bit on the way back, that should've been called.

You are NOT supposed to be THAT fast when you're his size. He's one of those historic backs that when we look back, we'll say, Holy.moly.what a combo of speed and power unlike any other.
The wildcat was used at the NFL level by the dolphins to beat a super talented Patriots team. It allows for an extra blocker-in theory if everyone meets their assignments then there is only one unblocked defender who they will often allow of the backside of the play, thus creating very advantageous situations for a back like Henry

I got a question, they usually round the yardage total down on long runs from where the ball is marked. The tip of the ball seemed to be marked an inch beyond the 1 yard line, wouldn't that make it a 98 yard touchdown run?
I'm a Texans fan, so we've been having to face this mf twice a season for a few years now. He's so fun to watch, especially when the fourth quarter comes. Everyone is exhausted while this man is just getting started.
You guys mentioned never seeing a running back take the snap... you should watch a video of the 2008 Miami Dolphins who debuted the Wildcat formation!

💙 Titans fan here. King Henry has been one of my favorites to watch. The 99 yard run against the Jags; I was invited to go to that game but declined to go and went to a Christmas party instead. Biggest regret 🏈💙💙🤦🏻

when they did a direct snap to henry, that’s called the wildcat formation. this formation took over the nfl for a year in 2008 with the dolphins, although they didn’t invent it. it didn’t work for much longer though, as defenses adapted and now a few teams might use it for a play or two

he's the most physically unique player at his position. he's way bigger than almost any other RB but also does most of his damage on big plays. it's a weird contrast because usually big guys are slow plodders who get you 5 yards at a time. but Henry's size and speed makes him a home run hitter.
the reason he wasn't drafted highly is because 1) RBs don't usually go that high 2) he had so many miles on him already and RBs have short shelf lives and 3) he just wasn't built like the prototypical RB

One of the greatest to ever do it. Besides being a natural freak, his conditioning and taking care of himself is legendary. He gets a ton of sleep. Truly deserves all his success. The Titans had a downright lousy offensive line last season and Henry was still awesome.

To add to this, Derrick Henry is the only player in the history of football to have a 2k rushing season in highschool, college(in his heisman year he broke the SEC record), and NFL.
Henry is a beast. AWESOME.
Ball carriers are allowed to press the palm of the hand into the facemask. They get this exception because they are limited by the ball in what they can do to ward off tacklers.
In the slow-motion replay, it appears Henry's fingers do enter the facemask, but generally ball carriers wont get called if there isn't some obvious sign he gripped it.

Running backs typically have a short shelf life. The punishment they take shortens careers. Also, their most important attribute, explosive speed, is easily the most perishable of athletic gifts. Even by their mid to late twenties, they've generally lost an imperceptible level of pace. But, even that tiny drop-off can be the difference between a reliable all star and a roster liability.
That's why teams generally avoid taking running backs with high draft picks, unless the player is beyond exceptional and the need for the position is immediate.
Derrick Henry is one of those guys who could retire now and go to the Hall of Fame.
After a bad bad start his first year starting, getting to week 12 only having 400 rushing yards had the 99 yard run. That changed his career for ever. He then finished the year with 1000.
8th player to rush for 2000 yards
9th player to have 200 yards and 4TD in one game
2nd player with 3 playoff game with 150+ yards
2nd player with a 99 yard run
1 of 2 players with 2 90+ yard runs
Is tied for most 200 yard rushing games with 6 (4 of which are against the Texans all in a row too)
Best modern running back, he was his team for years and they were pretty good.

As so many people are suggesting RBs, I know you did Barry and now Henry have you done Emmitt Smith? people say he is over rated but he holds so many records for reasons.
Alabama and a few other running teams did it (direct snaps)...that was when defense was more dominant in college. Now, because of more restrictions on hits, today is more dominated by offense. Nick Saban swallowed his ego (he is defense and run oriented) and totally changed (fully by 2017) Alabama's style of play!!!....and the dynasty is still ongoing.....

NFL teams today don't put as much into running backs especially if they carried the ball a lot in college. They look more for the discount draft pick at that position or seek to have a couple of guys carry the ball. Henry proved that he could be the man in the pros as well and is pretty much the Titans offense

For reference, RB's are the smaller but fast guys that stand back by the QB and then gets the ball handed to them to run down the field. So the fact that Henry is able to have that same speed as normal RB's, while also being so much bigger and strong, that's what makes him special.
Normal RB's use their small size and speed to squeeze by people. Henry's size and strength let's him plow thru people to make his own spaces

As a die hard titans fan, we are blessed to have him. He is beloved here. Amazing human being! We did go to one Super Bowl and we were one yard short for a game tying touchdown. Crazy Super Bowl
The only high school exceptions beside the "Henry rule" I have ever heard of or seen was in my high school football days.
We had a 10th grader who transferred to my school in 1986. His name was Anthony Ofer. To this day is the biggest person I've ever met in my life. He stood 6 foot 11 inches, weighed 295 pounds, was strong as an ox and really quick for his size. He played nose tackle for our defense. In the first 3 games he had 19 QB sacks and 48 unassisted tackles... needless to say he was a high schools offense worst nightmare. It was like watching a huge grown man playing vs middle school kids going after the QB, he would just toss linemen like rag dolls to the side.
After game 3, somehow our high school's football conference decided he was to large and strong to play vs normal high school kids... Personally I feel like this was only passed down because our conferences premier high school who was undefeated 2 straight season lost to us in game three 16 - 0 holding their offense to under 80 total offensive yards.

My friend Johnny was 5' 10' ,about 220 pounds when we were 12 years old , I was about 100 pounds . We made a rule that Johnny could not run the ball . Johnny got a football scholarship to Georgia .

I’m kinda of newer to football but that play where Derrick Henry got the snap instead of the Qb is to essentially confuse the defense by replacing the qb(traditionally a position who isn’t as big and fast as Running backs)with a running back so that you can have more people who run the ball making it harder to know where the ball is going(the formation is called “wildcat”)….. Hopefully that makes sense🤷🏽♂️😂

The man that put the sword in the ground was Eddie George who had a sit down with him after a few years in the league and guided him to not waste his natural abilities which seemed to turn on the switch to his nfl career.
runningbacks don’t tend to go in the first round much anymore, but just a few years ago it was more common, the year after henry was drafted 2 RBs went top 10, one of them being christian mccaffery. Him and mccaffery have been the two best RB in the league the last few years, and henry beat him for the heisman. another reason henry fell in the draft is because some scouts saw him as one dimensional, and could only run up the middle without much variation.
The snap to Henry is called a Wildcat formation. It’s where the Qb either slides out to a WR position or off the field completely. It’s typically a direct snap and run but sometimes you’ll see a trick play or a pass. Love the video fellas!

The snap directly to the rb is a wildcat formation it was bascially the first option type thing but wasnt effective for long because they snap it to the rb. Basically the first idea of a modern option but with the rb. I think miami came up with it years and years back but you'd have to double check that
Grew up 25 minutes from the University of Alabama. Went to that Mississippi State game where they won 31-6. Henry is my favorite running back of all time. Never seen anything like him.

Henry led the league in rushing attempts, rushing yards, and rushing touchdowns in back to back seasons, and he's still producing at an elite level. Last season he rushed for another 1500 yards and 10 TDs

The snap directly to the running back is called a “wildcat” formation. On a normal running play there’s a quarterback, running back, and 9 blockers. The advantage with sometimes using the wildcat formation is the quarterback is off the field so now there are 10 blockers.
I saw a picture of Derrick in middle school, the other players came to his shoulders. As a Bama fan, I loved it when he played. The team in white and green was Michigan State and that was as a semi final game for the national championship. Great times.

The same 2015 CFP game I attended between Michigan State and Alabama in Dallas featured an incredibly impressive performance from Derrick Henry. This performance for me intrigued me because of his phenomenal stamina.
Bama grad and four-decade Tide fan here. That game was a note on a theme. Henry gets stronger by the fourth quarter of each game, and also gets better every game of the season. He had become a runaway freight train by that game, and posterizing Shilique Calhoun like that was the most famous example.
The reason Henry didn't get drafted higher is that the game has changed -- 25 years ago, he'd be the #1 overall pick for sure because back then the game was more about power running, not passing, as it is today.

It happens a lot more in college and highschool football still these days.

About your conversation with his draft position. RB's have been getting devalued in modern NFL. Its a position with high turn over, and teams aren't seeing it as a high need anymore. There was concerns about just how much usage he got in highschool/college. So he fell from where a top RB would normally be drafted, since teams thought his shelf life would be much less then a RB who didn't see such a massive workload before the NFL.
Its crazy because on tv it doesn't look like he is running that fast because hes so big. Like Tyreek looks fast because hes small. But Derrick is so large and has such a long stride, that he looks like hes moving slow while still outrunning safeties and corners.
His workout routine is crazy. He was drafted in the 2nd rd because at the time, you were either fast, or a bus, not both. He was a hybrid. He had issues in the NFL at first, then talked to Eddie George, and became a beast. His first few years were a letdown.
Fun fact from a Jacksonville Jaguars fan and Jacksonville, Florida native. Derrick Henry grew up about 20 minutes from the Jacksonville Jaguars stadium in Yulee. Tennessee is in the same division as Jacksonville and a lot of the highlights are against the jaguars due to them playing at least 2 times per year. As jaguar fan, I hate playing the Titans. As a Derrick Henry fan, he's something special.
Braelen Allen at Wisconsin is the second coming of King Henry. Started college as a 17 year old already 6'3" 225 at 17. In his third year of college now and still only 19, but about 245 now. Basically same build as Henry and sane running style. Excited to see him play in the NFL next year.
He's a freak athlete and in hind sight, yes, he should've been a top pick. He's UNBELIEVABLE
The crazy part is he had a couple down years. He had to talk to Eddie George (the first incredible titans running back) and got advice. George basically told him he goes down too easy and doesn’t keep churning his legs like he did in college and Highschool. He started training harder and ran through almost every arm tackle thrown his way. Just needed some guidance and someone reminding him who he is. Gotta love Eddie George for making him remember that. That 99 yard run is the most impressive run of all time. I’m a bears fan and I think Walter Payton is the GOAT but he never had a 99 yard run with 3 stiff arms. Not taking anything away from Walter, just trying to show how incredibly good Henry really is. Walter Payton used to run up the hill near my childhood home, my dad got to meet him in 1985 when he was working at a mall in the Chicago suburbs. Great human.

One quick note, offensive players rarely get called for grabbing a defender's facemask unless it's super egregious. Every so often, the officials decide in the offseason that it will be a point of emphasis going forward, and that they'll start calling it, but that usually only lasts a few weeks into the regular season, if that.

12:45 that's called a wildcat formation, it is used maybe once every few games. Some teams use it more, others never use it at all. Some fun trick plays can be done with it, such as pitching it to the qb then having the qb bomb it down field

As a Titans fan, Derrick Henry is my favorite all-time NFL player. The year this video leaves off on (2020), he became the 8th ever player to rush for over 2000 yards with a 250 yard game against the Texans. Let me put that into perspective: he had ONE game to get from 1750 yards on the season to 2000, and he did it. Moreover, until December last year, he had rushed for over 200 yards in each of the last 4 games just against the Texans. Just those games alone would tie him for the all-time record of number of games rushing for over 200 yards, but he did it two other times, making him the 200-yard game leader at SIX TOTAL GAMES. There's no shot this man isn't getting into the HOF
