- Planting a diverse crop of Corn, Soybeans, Sunflowers, and Pumpkins with our JD 7000 Planter. The plan is to use it as a Corn/Cover Crop Maze and then if we can't harvest the corn we will Chop it and feed it to the cows. Or graze it. Flexibility is key! www.soilrx.net
It's awesome to see a largscale farmer doing these more horticultural things. God bless ya sir.
Better yet - a cover crop maze! Love the innovation and outreach.
After week 1 the pumpkins in the maze have been a huge hit!
Another great video Cody, It makes life more interesting being out of our comfort zone! 🥴 God bless America and the state of Mn.
So what was the result? You didn’t post a video with the results and I would love to see what it would look like if you have any video or photos!
Great video and ideas, thanks
Hey Cody, Great video..really enjoyed it after just coming across it. Did you just use the corn meters for your blend of corn, beans, pumpkins? Thank you!
Great video, I’ve been looking into getting a planter like yours but wasn’t sure how big I could go. My tractor is a 2008 kubota 5240 (52)hp do you think I could pull a six row no till planter? Thanks again 👍🏼
I’ve grew my first diverse cover crop last year. Doing 80 acres this year. Different blend though
Thanks for sharing your video. I had a question about your spray/water barrels on your planter. Were those one off custom builds or did you use a kit of some kind? Great idea by the way
Hi Cody, how well did this work out? I want to try relay beans in rye and beans between corn using my 30 inch 4 row planter. I plan to do 2.5 acres of the rye and beans and another 2.5 acres of the corn and beans. Was just curious if the finger meters worked "Good enough" at getting beans in the ground. The thought of spending 800 to 1000 on brush meters for a test plot isn't very appealing! Thanks for any input
I really wish I would have done a follow up video on this. It looked really good and would have been ideal for a winter grazing option. We actually turned this little field into a corn maze and then we let people pick the mini pumpkins and charged them $.50 per pound. That cash flowed better than the corn did! As for the beans- I think you'll be fine with the finger meters for a test.
What did you get on yield on the rye that was planted last November? What rate did you plant?
Це товарний посів кукурудзи чи соняшнику ?
Do you have to change anything on the planter when planting sunflowers and pumpkins? I just bought an old jd 1240 and using it to no till corn, sunflowers and pumpkins this year
We just set it for corn and added some pumpkins in the box and hand mixed it. Worked well for us!
Nice video. What’s the plan with it after the cover crop maze? Graze it?
Yes, I plan to winter graze cattle out there.
That's not a bad idea to kill 4 birds with one stone. Covers pumpkins, corn maze abd a possibility to learn
You have a website? You do consulting work? I have some depleted ground in SE MN and looking for ways to regenerate the soil
Yes I do. www.soilrx.net or you can email me at www.soilrx1@gmail.com
So how does it look now?
Steve, There is another video of this on my channel, or at least what it looked like early fall.
Hello, So I heard somewhere that planting sunflowers will ruin the soil for future crops. Is that true?
Absolutely not. Sunflowers by themselves might be an issue but in a mix they bring a lot to the table. They have a very deep taproot, cycle and release nutrients from very deep, and help with pollinators.
where is this?
Belview, MN at Iverson Tree Farm. Look up www.iversontreefarm.com
Really nice and informative video. We shared the video on AgWiki.com under the header of Soil Health.
Excellent! Thank You for the share!
