We really like twin rows. Identical yields. But the cover crops in between has to be hugely diverse and corn won’t see it as competition.

Circling back on this video do you know if Adam has continued interseeding his corn silage? Would love to see a follow up video sometime. A lot of dairy producers are starting to talk about the potential of these types of practice so it would be great to learn more details. Keep up the great work!

Planting into a cover crop, let alone interseeding, I wish Illinois producers would drive over the border and start looking.

Hi Cody, how well did this work out? I want to try relay beans in rye and beans between corn using my 30 inch 4 row planter. I plan to do 2.5 acres of the rye and beans and another 2.5 acres of the corn and beans. Was just curious if the finger meters worked "Good enough" at getting beans in the ground. The thought of spending 800 to 1000 on brush meters for a test plot isn't very appealing! Thanks for any input

I really wish I would have done a follow up video on this. It looked really good and would have been ideal for a winter grazing option. We actually turned this little field into a corn maze and then we let people pick the mini pumpkins and charged them $.50 per pound. That cash flowed better than the corn did! As for the beans- I think you'll be fine with the finger meters for a test.

Old habits , mindset are hard to change . The management practices of most negate soil health and profit. I no till and cover crop and would not do it any other way . Saving money ,time ,and improving the soil while imporoving my r.o.i. Keep up the videos , good info .

I did twin 60” again this year. I’m not a huge proponent of it, I do a lot better by sticking to 20” spacing for weed control, and drilling covers after a shorter season variety, but they added a bullet point recently called “context.” The context was I needed more cow chow than usual because we took in some drought refugees, and I needed decent non gmo corn with a little higher protein for some hog barn guys. It was a.marriage made in heaven .

My questions are as follows 1) from the beginning before planting what exactly was your steps of planting ? 2) how many days of watering in a week? 3) did you apply fertilizer? If yes which fertilizer and what intervals was the plants before the application of fertilizer? 4) do you apply weed killer? If yes what was your procedure? 5) knowing birds love eating sunflower, how do you keep the field away from birds? Please don't be offended towards the lots of questions, I'm curious to learn and apply. Thanks

If you’re going to bale it, you get the best balance of yield to quality at first head emergence. That crop is a little old but still good. We’ve grown ryegrass my whole life in Australia over winter. Anything above 22 Celsius it basically stops growing. Could be difficult to balance in parts of the US. But it’s definitely a valuable crop given that it can yield 2.5t/acre in 14-18 weeks.
