Thank you for watching everyone. We've hit 100 000 subscribers too, so this is a bit of a special episode! 🥳 What did you think, was it too long or are you one of those that like longer videos? I don't necessarily plan on releasing many such long videos in the future (so much work to edit 😬), but for this one I felt like I needed to cover a larger span of time to make the story complete...
Keep em long! ppl can pause. CZcams remember where u wher last time u left off. Especially for fans like me its perfekt :D Or short! It dont really matter to be honest =) I know the HUGE mindspace it goes in to telling a story and sometimes its just enough or you just have to go on =) Cheers / The Maxi Racer guy from sweden
I like it long as long as there is something happening 👍 this one was great thanks
🎉👍🍻
I like longer videos. And I can also split them. Finished my Norwegian felted shoes at least the knitting part. Where can I order Finnish wool pants that you have shown a while ago?
I like the longer videos. Thank you for sharing your adventures. You're inspiring me to do the same some day. Love from California.
The most cruising thing I heard in a bit.
"It leaks less then the last one, we'll call it a win" . Love it.
yeah... :D
Hi Juho, thanks for letting us be part of your journey! For me, this video was not too long at all!
About your Centerboard: we had a Maracuja 39 some time ago, which was the smaller sibling of your Alumi. For quite a while, Garcia made the centerboards, that they have play sideways. Under side pressure they set on the sides with a slight angle. The idea was to give it a better upwind performance. Maybe you noticed, that the bushing in the centerboard was not cylindric, then it was definitely made on purpose like that. Also, the centerboard is not totally unweighted, it has some lead inside at the back side, to keep it in down.
It's floating in nearly perfect sailing position under water (I installed our centerboard after a repair while the boat was in the water).
We learned, that It was most comfortable to sail with the centerboard partly up when going abeam and completely up, when sailing on a broad reach or downwind. The boat movements were also better with the boards up and the chance that you broach, is nearly zero without centerboard.
We newer locked the centerboard down, it stayed in position by itself and it would be able to pivot, if we hit something with the boat. For the same reason, we kept the small daggerboard behind the skeg mostly up, or at least higher than the skeg. As hitting something serious with the daggerboard down could possibly break the daggerboard box, which is most likely weaker then the daggerboard itself. We completely lowered the daggerboard only when needed for upwind sailing.
Congratulations to your boat, I am sure, you will going to love it. We were very happy with ours. Sailing performance was very good except for upwind, but that's what you pay for a boat, with an inboard ballast (and 1m draft).
All the best, enjoy life and stay safe. Rolf
Hi Rolf, I made a comment about the aft daggerboard in another video about a construction error in a few (the first?) mid-80 years' Maracuja and Nouanni. I've read, and was also told by an owner, that a Maracuja sank within minutes after the daggerboard box welds failed after hitting something with the aft daggerboard, and that Garcia contacted the owners to warn them and recommended a specific reinforcement. Do you happen to know anything more about that?
thanks @rolf6734 and @fredflintstone8664 , it's a late reply but I've noticed your comments! We use the centerboard much the same way as you. we're aware of the daggerboard box issue and I have seen photos of the destroyed daggerboard box. Ours is partly reinforced and might need to check into reinforcing it more, not completely sure. I'm trying to ask Garcia for more specifics, usually they get back with a reply but it might take a month or two (or three...)
I love the long ones. It is like reading an complete article, and not just the headlines. Best wishes from Germany.
09:05 "... I just recorded the VHF radio because I thought it would look more dramatic on video" Hahaha I LOVE!!! Brilliant!
0K back to the video.
Very nice as usual, thank you!
I’ve been subbed for a couple years. I don’t follow extremely closely, but enough to know the channel’s general arc, and I love love love it.
The couple is mindblowingly informed and are able to present in a comprehensive and entertaining manner.
The knowledge and information is gargantuan.
Just wow
Great video. Yes, there is one thing that gets you safely over the bar………… patience! Love the channel. Your boat and your personalities. Keep it up. And, you deserve a bigger audience.
Really appreciate you taking me on my first journey over the Columbia bar. A Oregonian born and raised, always hearing of vessels in distress on Columbia bar ,really have admiration for those taking the challenge. Enjoy the scenic and calm of the strait Juan de Fuca Until next time calm winds.
I am sure you just want to sail but I really enjoy your refit/boat work videos! I learn loads
I am so happy to see another video from you!!! Wishing you all the best from France!
You have a very unique channel, never stop!!!
Being resourceful, Common sense, being practical, and safety seem to be at the forefront with this guy
It’s never too long, loved it, filming and talk exceptional . Boat is looking great. Bring on the next one.
great video ,I spent 20 years sailing georgia straight out of vancouver BC ,you will love it , killer whales ,strong tides further north and beautiful wilderness sailing ,lots of logs in the water from log booms being towed . Reality sailing channels are the best , I look foreward to your future adventures .
Congratulations on 100K subscribers! It's great to see your new boat out sailing since the refit and all the hard work you both put into it. Safe travels and happy sailing for 2023!!
II found this episode to be extremely enjoyable. You have been through the fire together,. and the filthy beast cleaned up well l(with a huge effort) and turned out to be very good investment. . And now we get to participate vicariously through your videos. What a treat.
A brick of a vessel and I am amazed at what you accomplished in such a short period of time to get her seaworthy. This was a terrific catch-up and the moon light shots were very special. Looking forward to more adventures.
I am impressed you figured out the centerboard solution and the leaky shaft drive solution, installed the Raymarine autopilot and replaced the windows quickly. Excellent boatsmithing. Congratulations.
Great episode. Very challenging piece of water. Well done guys . Welcome to Canada 🍁
Good to see you back on the water. Beautiful shots, thanks for sharing your adventures with us land lovers.
You guys are in for some beautiful scenery, I'm in the comox valley and used to sail in desolation sound. Dont mind the rain and enjoy the inside passage.
Desolation Sound, hottest ocean water north of Baja California... home of Refuge Cove :)
Im impressed with you both, as many sailors head towards warmer waters, you all are heading north to cold northwest. Safe travels.
CONGRATULATIONS ON 1000,000 SUBSCRIBERS!!!!
YOU REALLY DESERVE IT GUYS✌🏼💗😊⛵
Hi Donna. Inflation is high at the moment, but a million isn't the new 100,000 yet! 🙂 You've got an extra zero in your number there. hehe.
Thanks! We enjoy your videos! Safe travels!
Nothing beats being taken along REAL sailing! Nothing Mambi-Pambi or pretentious. Love the video
Beautiful Music and Fantastic News. Thanks to Lumi , Crew and Supporters..☝️❤️🌍🇿🇦
While in the USN, my ship was stationed in Portland. I've been over that bar about 40+ times... Sometimes the swells were over 35ft; very rough. No matter what the weather was doing, we always had a pilot with us... Good luck !
I love you guys and look out for your videos more than any other channel. It's great to see you headed north, anticipating the next leg. Cheers from Bristol. Keep warm.
the both of you did one hell of a job on that boat compared to when you first stepped aboard her. looks like it was worth the time spent. stay safe you two.
This was a wonderful episode. Congratulations on 100K and kudos for you both being so competent and adventuresome.
Keep going. There’s nothing worse then a video without an ending to the segment your doing. Good job I’m enjoying the cruise
Congratulations Juho and Sohvi for 100k+ subscribers. It has been a long road from your start but you did it by sharing beautiful videography and telling a unique story relative to the other sailing cruisers on CZcams. Another great video. Lumi looks amazing out on the water and I enjoyed this segment of her journey. Thanks for sharing!
Congratulations on 100k subscribers.
Fantastic video. Great work fixing the keel. Despite the problems I think she will be a great boat.
Your the most original and authentic producers in your content, also fearless. Enjoy you both and hope to be able to contribute to the cause soon, love...
Awesome you two. Keep it up
With the threat of war comin' on, a boat may be the best way to escape to safety.
We really love your channel and the videos you take time to make so we can share your journeys with us. Thankyou So much. All the best for 2023. Keep warm and well fed. Stay safe. Take care xxxx congratulations on 100,000 subscribers
I must say your an amazing mechanic.....it seems you can handle any issue that may arise with the boat .....the boat looks great BTW
I did enjoy the rehab of this boat, but this is what really makes that work worthwhile. Watching it glide through the sea and giving you guys the enjoyment of the journey. I have mainly sailed in lakes that are landlocked. But I have had 3 vacations when we actually went out away from land and absolutely loved the sailing. Looking forward to more great sails at times that others deem not worthy to do so.
Another awesome video
Welcome to Beutiful British Columbia 🇨🇦
Wonderful episode.
SAFE PASSAGE NORTH !
Glad you had a safe trip and many important chores/repairs completed or at least , "a job well begun is a job half done."
Smart man for staying in port. I lived in that area for 20 years and it can be very nasty at times crossing the bar. He is right about it being the most dangerous bar crossing in the world.
Edited & presented in a very appealing manner. Congratulations.
This is a very good example of sensible seamanship.
Just a great video - thanks a lot!
They did follow the recommendations. There was a “small craft advisory “ for vessels less than 26 feet. The ease of their bar crossing and subsequent easy passage north supported the decision. I have crossed the bar and circumnavigated Vancouver Island(in addition to a 9 year world circumnavigation). This couple is extremely experienced and are excellent voyagers.
takes some spirit to sail north in december! love these two!!
You are a brilliant, often quite humorous narrator and I love watching all your videos whether you are working on the boat or sailing.
Thanks for sharing your progress north.
Take care, all the best, and God bless.
✝️🇺🇸🌊⛴🌊⚓️
Brilliant episode once again
Very cool journey
What are your plans for the rigging? What do you need to do with the genoa? Are you going to get/make a lazyjack?
I knew exactly where you were by the title of this video. Its nice to see another sailing channel passing through. The Colombia River is such an important part of WA and OR. Not just because of shipping but also fishing and power. There are several dams that produce a lot of power for the region. I know you are making your way North but do take the time to enjoy the beauty of the islands here. There are a lot of hidden gems all along the inside passage. Looking forward to seeing your discoveries along this beautiful cruising ground. I would like to see more of it my self and one day I will.
Thanks a lot for a very good and interesting video. Your channel is absolutely one of the best sailing channels right now. Waiting for the next one and hope you will not have any problems with the centerboard. All the best to both of you from Greece.
Take as long as you like! Great video thanks 😊
Only the Finns would be crazy enough to sail north along the Northwest USA coast in December! Nice video. Well done.
Congratulations on a 100 K .Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the vídeo ! Regards from Spain
Incredible adventure! That full moon at sea was gorgeous!
Congratulations! Well deserved subscription milestone. We've watched since the beginning and your content, filming and projects just keep getting better. Always worth watching.
It DID look more dramatic on video! 😂 and not too long! Perfect I would say. Your videos are a mood, better to get into if a bit longer!
Nice Boat, good Video, Thanks an greetings from Germany. Stephan
So exiting to see you sailing the new boat!!🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you so much for taking us on your journey, this is one of your best :)
U2 are living the dream. Thanks for sharing.
thanks for watching!
Congratulations on the 100k. Excellent video and I look forward to the next part of your adventures.
Sweetest boat and crew on the seas to adventure to new places! Thanks for your sharing! I have read books of early Northwest passage crews and much history! Cannot wait to travel West to East on this part of the planet! God speed!
This was a great video! So nice to see you out on the cold ocean again after that hot summer in California. Stay safe and have fun!
Such a wonderful journey you guys!! Been watching your channel, all your episodes (subscribed as well..). I enjoy the restoration episodes as well as all the travels as I am a traveller myself. Cabin fever lately in California with all the storms lately. So glad you scooted north before all that crazy rain and weather!! Happy sailing my friends!
I must compliment you on your skills, both nautical, and those involved in the skills of handling of tools necessary to keep your boat in shape for safe sailing. As a landlubber, I salute you. Happy sailing.
Lets gooo ! I have no doubt that it will be another great video! Greetings from landlocked Austria :)
thanks, grab a sandwich and enjoy! :)
@@AlluringArctic hahah yo thanks :) Im already equipped in that sense :D
Great episode! And congrats on hitting the 100k mark!
One of my favorite sailing channels ! I’ve been watching since you guys left Norway for Iceland. Congratulations on the 100,000 subs 🎉
Loved this, love seeing all the places you go that are so beautiful, too cold for me, but still stunning.
Love the longer videos. Great on my train ride to work. And you are a great storyteller, never a dull moment.
Wow!!! I love following your adventures! You both are awesome sailors and really fun to watch! Thank you for sharing. I can’t wait for your next video!
i have seen only two videos, but i am going to be addicted i think, you are very good explaining all the issues good or bad and also good film work with onboard cameras and drone
Keep it up!!!
Thank you for these past two videos. I equally enjoy the refit/work and the sailing vids. I especially like how you focus on both the simple things and the complicated issues, and explain in detail the how and why . So many channels just show the fun stuff. I enjoy seeing your crew sleeping, playing cards, preparing food etc. It gives us landlocked dreamers a real sense of your journey. I have lived in Portland my entire life and have sailed in the Columbia river basin at Portland. It is over a mile wide there, and there are thousands of sailboats that spend their whole lives there and never see salt. Fortunately, I had occasions to crew on race boats down the river, over the bar and up to Vancouver BC. I've been across the bar at mis-judged times on a 28 ft blue water boat and was truly in fear for my life. At the top of the inside passage is the town of Skagway. Lovely historic gold rush down. If you go there, I have a good friend that has a beautiful off grid Homestead 7 miles out of town. I know he would be happy to meet you and show you around. He could take you to his favorite close up grizzly bear spots! Safe journey.
Thanks for another great video. Their never to long ...I could sit and watch you guys sailing all day.
That was awesome! Lots of things happening. It doesn’t look like you are getting too much downtime. Congratulations on the 100k. I enjoy all your productions; long or short. I’m looking forward to your episodes from 🇨🇦. Stay safe!
Congrats on 100k. Being under sail with no other boats in sight really enhances that sense of oneness with nature and detachment from the cares of this world.
Sailing over here on the coast of Maine pretty much shuts down this time of year like the Northwest. Thanks for letting us share your adventure.
I have only Crossed the Columbia River Bar once, my first trip frommy home port of Crescent City, commercial fishing, where I went into another port. It is a wonderful experience when conditions are good.
Well done! I've watched a lot of youtube sailing channels over the years and yours have become my favorite. Thanks till next time.
Thanks for sharing your adventure. Your videos are NEVER too long. Can’t wait for more!
Really enjoyed this episode with the mix of environments. Your both inspiring. Love all your stuff. 🙏🏽🥰
Glad you enjoyed making this - that's always a plus - and glad I watched it, subscribed (for a long time!)
Great episode! - as always on your channel. Also congratulations on refitting your boat, it looks impressive!
loving your videos! also love seeing this particular northward sailing journey up the pacific coast! thank you
Man I really Love you two! Such a great channel, and so stoked to see you somewhat back on the water! Big congrats on the 100k...Keep your chins up waiting out the weather...Just think of the pow pow waiting for you both in Alaska in spring.
I like you guys. 100k subs can't be wrong. Episode length was perfect for me. Thank you for sharing with us 👍
Lovely to watch you again and thank you for sharing your journey with us, and good for you to achieve 100k subscribers ,just shows how popular you are.
Very nice ocean footage, even the night stuff, and good live ocean sound as well, felt like you were right there. Looking forward to following this trip.
Oh wow guys! Really lovely and well documented journey on the cost to coast route, I did the mountain bike version a few years back! After watching your channel for ages I finally have a sailing boat now and it's in the lake district on Ullswater. If you guys come to the lakes again I'd love to take you guys climbing, the lake district is trad heaven. I was at the lion inn on Blakey ridge last weekend, so must have just missed you guys. Take care. Mark
Such a cool channel, makes my heart warm, despite the cold weather! You two are so cool as well, keep posting and arctic sailing. Cheers from Vienna, Austria 😊
Great episode. Good length. Interesting material, and your sense of humour always a bonus. 🙂 Cheers
It's good to see you under way again and personally I think videos 25 to 30 minutes long are perfect.
Native Oregonian, who lives in the southern coastal mountains! Our waters can be wild and very angry, welcome to the PNW.
Long time subscriber and have been loving the journey. A little dramatics is acceptable. Thanks for sharing with us.
I love the sweater she has. I had one like that that my Mom got me when she was in Finland. Can't find sweaters like that anywhere.
Congratulations on 100K subs,, 🍻🍻🤩👍👍
Great episode. Love your style. You two seem and ideal sailing couple. Love your dry understated humour.
