    The charges against the parents of the shooter were obviously quite appropriate. However, the school authorities bare responsibility as well. they assumably were told by someone about shooter's online plans. They saw the note he wrote. He should have been immediately suspended, if not expelled.

    • @phillipsanchez4192
      @phillipsanchez4192 Před 2 lety +9

      I am a teacher, and our duty of care requirements are crystal clear for a case like this. The teacher who saw the ammunitions search on the student's phone did the right thing by immediately reporting it up the chain. It seems this is where the ball was initially dropped. Where it is good that they informed parents, once there was no response, the student should have been suspended until such time as a more focused conversation had taken place with the parents who had chosen to ignore the messages. He never should have been allowed back on the school grounds the next day.
      Then a second teacher saw the extremely alarming note. I am assuming from the context that this teacher also reported what was seen to admin. How was the bag not immediately searched right then and there in the counselor's office? Major mistake again. Then it is compounded by the 48 hour time limit the admin gave to the obtuse parents to get their son counseling. Again, he should have been suspended until proof was shown that he was undergoing treatment for a specific period of time, and the parents should have been handed suspension papers right then and there with the conditions outlined. The school giving the parents a 48 hour window to act gave them the impression that they could leave their son at school. Unbelievably terrible decision!
      I also cannot believe that he was allowed to return to the classroom after all of this! If the parents refused to take him post haste, call the police and have him removed for trespassing and them as well, at which time his bag gets definitely searched.
      This is a no brainer!

    • @TheBoardRoom_
      @TheBoardRoom_ Před 2 lety +4

      @@RedDragon-og8wn why not? He's on school property and posed a safety concern and obviously violated codes of conduct. At the very least they could've asked to see the contents of the bag, locker, and the student. Their was an officer on site, maybe they could've tried to initiate that process. He should've been pressed on whether he had a weapon or not, citing his drawing & internet search as cause for concern. If he refuseed he should've been suspended until a conversation was had with family and student. And if the parents didn't respond to a call from the school then someone from the police department should be calling at that point. Not saying it had to be an officer, most departments have some form of a social worker or similar. I just don't understand how many more red flags they needed to see?? It's ridiculous with the amount of shootings, there needs to be ZERO tolerance for this type of behavior.

      Guts has got nothing to do with it. If there is enough evidence to support a prosecution then one will be brought (unless it's BLM or Antifa rioters/looters, in which case prosecutors don;t lift a finger).. Otherwise the prosecutor is just wasting public money, no matter how "brave" the prosecutor is perceived to be. Case in point .. the prosecution of Kyle Rittenhouse wasn't "brave", it was dumb .. because it was obvious from the copious evidence he would most likely walk. But then prosecutions in America are often politically driven because DA's are elected. Personally, I think it's going to be quite tough making manslaughter stick in this case .. but it depends on exactly how California Law is written.

But their degree of responsibility is far less than the parents. The teacher found the note photographed the original one which the student altered. They pulled the parents in and insisted on counseling. The parents should have checked his possessions and where they stored the gun. In Michigan I'm not sure they could expel him over the note since he changed it. Lots of questions that I am sure will be brought up in trial.
