Man I remember being in high school, the biggest bullies were teachers. But those ugly soul bullies made me stronger, I am way more assertive and I understand my own value as well as the fact that not everyone has to like you and that in the end of the day there is a life outside of that bad period and a person or people who most definitely care. Suicide is not an answer. World and life is full of wonders it is a shame to end it too soon because of bunch of insecure low minded assholes
    Peace ✌🏻

I have lost someone at the age of 12 to sucide... and it hurt so very much. To this day i remember what clothes i wore, what jewlery. But guess what, it was never discussed by the school staff again. in the year book they had a page about dabing... nothing mentioning him.... just his photo next to everyone acting as if nothing had ever happened... lps (Lincoln public school) sent out an email telling kids not to watch 13rw but guess what? we have already lived through half of it; we have lived through sucide....:/
this makes you think, did i do anything to cause this? i love the show it makes you think.

13 reasons why isn't trying to glorify suicide,it's trying to tell you not to make fun of or spread rumors about others or the person will take their own lives,I watched it by myself and with my dad,he agrees with me. And the suicide scene isn't shouting out "Suicide solves problems" when in reality it's trying to say that suicide isn't a joke nor a choice and it's a hard decision, and if you're going to cut yourself because of the show it either means that you're that easily triggered or you want attention. If you are easily triggered by the show then don't watch it. Easy as that.
(Edit) some people aren't really getting my point.

With all respect, that is the problem with the show. Some of the problems, yes, can cause real trauma, but no one has to right to blame someone for their suicide. Her making those tapes could have been just a character flaw, but it framed as what she did was justified. People reassure each other that it is their fault.
That message is very harmful, especially for anyone watching that may have lost someone to suicide. No one needs to go their life thinking they lost someone to suicide. They didn't kill them, their mental illness did.
Again, this is meant as a respectful reply.

The show make it seem that suicide is okay. That it's a normal part of life and in reality suicide should not be shown as a normal part of life. Children shouldn't have to live with the fact of knowing their friend committed suicide. Other students will feel like they are at fault and may live with the guilt and regret even if they weren't part of the problem. Suicide should not be seen as positive which is what this show is doing. I'm sorry but this show goes against all the research the producers were given about how to actually speak about suicide and that there is help. Many people who have committed suicide or attempted to commit suicide feel that they can't speak to anyone for fear of judgment, ridicule, feeling weak, feeling ashamed,...the list can keep going on and on.

If you're media literate you'll understand it. It's inspiring and can be taken the wrong way but it needs to be done. We need to turn things like this into a positive and not take the negatives from it. You should think it's not glamourising it in a bad way, it's awareness. The show is different, more graphic and bold, wherever there is power there is resistance! What these students did was powerful! And this is what we should embrace and take out of shows like this, the positiveness or awareness and courage. The creativity that stems from it. Everyone is different, our stories, the way we cope and our breaking points. We are all brave and strong humans, we have the power to change the world and make it better, our attitudes, values and morals. To who ever reads this You are strong and I'm proud of how far you have come and will go xo

Just trying to get traction." As the days went by and i listened to these people talk, it felt less like a parody and more heartfelt and meaningful, listening to these seniors talk about their issues from the past. I personally have become numb to hateful comments and they have no effect on me, but they do to many others. 2 students that i know of have commited suicide at my school and these people sharing their stories are helping students get help. One student heard these comments and went to the counslers and got help, sharing his story to our entire school. These people are incredibly brave and inspiring, and I appreciate them for doing this for everyone.

It's a shitty, poorly handled show, OK? Even worse that they put it on netflix where any kid can watch it. Yes, parents should monitor what their kids watch online but we all know they can't stand over their shoulder 24/7 and kids always find a way to see what they want. Sure, the show demonstrates how you shouldn't be mean and talk about people behind their backs and such (although it's effin 2017, did y'all not know that already?), but it was too risky to put out their for young, impressionable people to see. And don't say people against the show are being "overly sensitive" because when it comes to a person's life there's no such thing as over sensitive. Don't watch the show. You may think it doesn't directly make kids wanna kill themselves, but it's how what they're seeing is gonna affect them mentally as they grow. The creators of the show even talked to counsellors in an area where there was a suicide epidemic, and they were told how to handle the topic. Guess what? They did everything they were told NOT to do. Even the title itself "13 Reasons WHY" suggests that suicide can be justified and is the answer, and NO it never is the answer.

I think if anything it was showing you the ugly parts of suicide. Like what gets left behind of ones family, friends, community. Maybe people just weren't ready for something like that.

I watched 13 Reasons Why and I don't get how people hate on it, it's trying to show young kids that suicide is something serious and there are always people around you who you can talk to. Just do what Hannah didn't do and talk about it with others and not commit suicide because there's always gonna be someone who cares about you.

As a victim of bullying myself, I have to say that 13 reasons why helped me a lot. it showed me that I'm not the only one who has gone through this , how horrible kids can be, and how suicide is never the answer because you are not only hurting yourself but your also hurting others

I was bullied in high school, I was told I was a devil worshiper and many other things and ya, I considered suicide but fortunately I had a mom I was super close with. And I told her a lot of what I was going through at that time. I know, not even has that.

All of the issues in 13rw need to be heard, not ignored. This is the only show that is showing the reality and people saying not to watch it because it's too triggering or 'glorifying suicide' it's supposed to be triggering but it is definitely not glorifying suicide, it's teaching people about lots of different issues that are not being heard enough. These issues need a chance to be heard not ignored. So many people that haven't watched it are criticising it. If you get the chance, you should watch it and realise it's not anything bad.

Joy Manangan what you say is true. however, for me (i'm 30) i think the problem is that the show never really set up asking for mental help as an option. i mean she went to the counselor but he didn't help and in reality that would never ever happen. believe me you, teachers and counselors go through extensive training for dealing with those kinds of issues and they have to fill out incident reports when someone comes to them. that counselor wouldn't have been able to ignore her in real life and i would hate to think that actually ignoring a student is an option for some
bottom line, suicide doesn't end the chance of things getting worse, it only ends the chance of things getting better. please continue to love one another and ask for help when you need it. DON'T EVER BE ASHAMED TO ASK FOR HELP!

Did you read the book? I did. About 5yrs ago. And I think that everybody should watch it! And of course there should be a discution about It between people. I don't think or feel in anyway that they are "glorifying" suicide or that it was " suicide out of revenge". And I don't think it will push more kids to commit suicide. Just like talking about sex will not push more kids to do it! We need to stop being hypocrites as a society and talk openly about these issues. I loved the book ( the message behind It being: that it's an accumulaton of "bad things" pilled up that makes some people feel trapped in a never ending nightmare. Scared and confused) I think people are pointing fingers and missing the whole lesson we should all take from "13 reasons why", which is: BE NICE because yes: words can kill.....

What makes this suicide so appealing are all the tears and devastation that follows from peers. Thats what kids want. Sadly they dint realize after a week nobody in school will care about them anymore and they will just be a sad thing that happened and oh well lets move forward in the minds of other teens. Sad but true.

I hate how people say it glorifies it. It portrays the raw aspect of suicide, and you just want to ignore that's how it is? It was graphic and messy and terrifying for some. That show is nowhere near glorification of suicide. What they were saying about "she gets what she wants" pissed me off. Yes, she successfully completed suicide. You really everyone else who commits suicide "get what they want" too? That's how suicide works, and for you turning your kids away and not let then have exposure to things like this are the reason why people aren't educated on this subject

People have to get over getting offended by graphic language/content, because it'll teach a kid from a very very young age not to do that. 1) glorify- to make something seem more ideal than it actually is
Let's look at how the show did that. The show used Hannah's tapes as vectors for promoting moralistic change. Like her death spurred guilt, regret and awareness. Portraying suicide as something that instigates people to "change" is making it more ideal than it actually is.
Further more the show didn't address the mental illness aspect of it at ALL. Being suicidal IS a mental illness. When a person is suicidal they have no hope left it's just complete and utter clinical depression. Hannah meanwhile was driven to the point of suicide yet had the time, energy and will to record 13 tapes calling all her high school classmates out followed by drawing a map for them and then after all that decided... ok now I'll kill myself. It's so juvenile in its portrayal of a complex mental issue, so yes that is making it more ideal than it actually is
      2) revenge: the act of hurting or harming someone in return for a wrong doing faced at their hands.
Hannah: you made me feel insecure... now Its my turn to make you feel insecure. It doesn't get any more text book definition than that. The script almost cites the perfect example for the dictionary definition of revenge.

These scenes should be "hard to watch". That's part of what makes this show so great. Bullies don't ever get to see what it's like. This show actually shows it. There are warnings before the hard stuff so if you know you are going to be that triggered then don't watch it.
