The Oldsmobile line seemed to always be a big car in that era, and this 1963 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 convertible is no exception. It's rare to see one in that good of condition. It has a healthy and quiet sounding engine, and it has the standard interior you'd expect from Oldsmobile. Interesting car indeed to start off the New Year.

The underhood part at 3:50 looks to be a resistor pack. If I were to guess, I'd say it's for the different motor speeds for heat & A/C.

My First New Car at age 15 was a 1972 Olds 88 Royale Hardtop in a beautiful Royal Blue. I cleaned it every single day if I wasn’t working or in school and I still remember all the after dinner walkers in the neighborhood always commenting on the car. Power Windows, A/C, Tilt Wheel, Center arm rest. 350 Rocket V8. Was my Trade Teachers car who used to pick my sister and I up and give us a ride to school. I knew the car well from 2 years of school rides and the former owner was so meticulous no kids just him and his wife. Paid $900 and sold it for $1,500 24 months later and bought my Dads Uncles 1973 Fleetwood Brougham at age 17 with only 60K and a Florida driven car. No winters. Senior year my teachers were treating me like I was a very spoiled 17 year old. The principal had the nerve to call my mom and tell them how badly they’re were spoiling me. My Mom knew I worked full time since age 14 for a caterer. I worked many nights until 1am or later with late parties. Mom told the principal off and she said he was speechless when she was done with him. The principal told her I should start with a shit box and learn from break downs. Can you imagine a school official doing this today? Great first car though.. loved it.

I had a 64 red and black Dynamic 88 convertible back in 1967. Just like this car, it was great driving car and very roomy. I was 19 and six of us would triple date to the drive in , it was price by car not passenger .
Had to sell it a year later but I’ve been looking for a nice 63 or 64 since with no luck. He’s a lucky man to have found this!

I have always admired the taillight design of the 1963 Dynamic and Super 88s. Very classy. And that Barktone Mist is beautiful in the sunlight. Those great see-through knobs are metal, something not found in today's cars. Olds interiors were always well-designed in the 1960s. That lady who stopped cold in the intersection, maybe she was admiring the Olds convertible? It's a stunning car.

I love the old cars. My parents owned a 1954 Olds 2-door hardtop, and later, a 1960 Olds wagon, that we'd take on Saturday afternoon drives in the southern California countryside. There were orange groves just a short bicycle ride from our home in the late 50's to early 60's.

This was great Lou. My first car was this model, but the coupe with the mock convertible top, (which I really liked), just not a convertible. I loved the taillight configuration the look was perfect It was a lighter gold color. But some really great memories made as a teenage boy, we had a great group of friends both guys and gals and lots of good times in this car. I really loved everything about it. We haunted the beaches on Lake MI in Menominee, Escanaba, and along the Superior shorelines during the summers. As well as Lake Antoine here at home. Where the girls we knew were. I got it in 1971 at age 16. I kept it shining like a new penny and tiptop shape. I sold it later on and immediately regretted it. I should have kept it. I dream about that car still today sometimes. A boys first car is always the most memorable. Good, bad, or ugly. This was mine and it was truly a great car. 👍👍😍

This 1963 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 Convertible is another great looking full size classic cars that had a style that is not made anymore. There is another thing that came to my mind when watching this video. I noticed when the hood was opened that the carburetor air cleaner had two messages printed on it. One message was use premium fuel only. The other message was ultra high compression. It brought to my mind a thing that many owners of classic high powered cars had to do with their engine to run on todays unleaded gasoline. As we know gasoline in the past contained this really great, but toxic octane boosting additive called tetraethyl lead. There was a man at the place I worked at many years ago that owned a 1970 Chevrolet El Camino that had a high output 350 cubic inch engine. This man told me that he replaced the original high compression heads with lower compression heads with hardened valve seats so that his car could run on unleaded gasoline, because leaded gasoline was becoming unavailable. This is a great looking car, it is likely that the owner of this car had to replace the original heads on the engine with lower compression heads with hardened valve seats so that this classic car could run on today's unleaded premium gasoline.

I can honestly say that I've never ever seen an Olds in beautiful, luxurious Chocolate brown color! It almost makes me wonder if the original owner picked out that color to match his wife's full length Mink coat? I believe that green beacon would be illuminated by the ashtray lights at night when the ashtray door was closed, so that you would know where the ashtray door was? I'm just guessing there! After watching this great video, I suddenly have a craving for "S'mores"! Happy and Healthy New Year to you, Lou, and the lucky owner of the Olds!

I Love Oldsmobile autos. When I was growing up, our school friend's dad had a lilac colored 1963 98 Oldsmobile. I was quite young and I remember it seemed huge. It was that beautiful GM lilac colred auto. I'm sure lilac is not the correct GM color, but that's what it reminded me of. I don't recall ever being driven in it though. I just looked it up...I think it must have been called Heather Mist! This 1963 Dynamic 88 is a great survivor. I love the color and I love the tail lights. And I know the ride was smooth too! Thanks for another great one, Lou.

I had a 1964 Dynamic 88 convertible. I didn’t know the 63 tail lights were somewhat similar to the 98. Mine were a rectangle shape. The engine in these were a 394 C.I. They were a super excellent driving car! Oh got to add: if you held the brake and rev it for a race you’d burn rubber in first. You scratched in second. Then shifted in third with a gentle glide. If you put regular gas in it would rattle ping and knock. It would take two tank fulls to get the regular gas out.

It's kind of tough to even call those fenders fins - look at the '62s - they had nothing like a fin. To me they're more like styling flourishes. I grew up in the 1960s when tailfins were pretty much in the rear-view mirror. We had cars with fins. While they're now regarded as icons of high-style, I don't recall anybody ever speaking well of them in the 1960s. The ones on the road back then all looked passe.

Hello Lou! Thanks for another video; they just keep getting better and better. This time, you selected this wonderful Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 convertible, a really magnificent car for its time. And, what's more, it's a different kind of Olds - not just another 4-4-2 or a Hurst Olds. It's time that cars like this '63 Olds got some love - and you delivered on this one! Back in the 1960s, it seemed Oldsmobile could do no wrong. You don't see many Oldsmobiles like this today. And this one looks all original, even though I'm sure the folding top has been replaced many times throughout the car's six decades on the road. And this one is a California black-plate car; I'm guessing those plates are the originals, since the state began issuing them in 1963, and then in 1970, brought out the gold and blue plates with the numbers first and the letters second (123-ABC). Those California plates can still be seen today on pre-1970 automobiles - and I'm sure many of them are still out there! There were 12,551 Dynamic 88 convertibles manufactured in 1963. There were also Starfire and Ninety Eight convertibles, too. Even the little F-85 Cutlass offered convertibles!
Thanks again, Lou, for another video, and as you know, I'll be looking for more! This world needs more Lou Costabiles! Happy New Year! _(1/4/2023)_

Fascinating that mid level 63 Dynamic Olds convertible would come with factory a/c...seems quite unusual...yet the original owner elected not to spring for the power windows, which certainly would have been avail as an added option...nice job as always Lou....

At 7:36 in the trunk is shown a manual for the radio, which appears to be early 70's vintage, and is for an AM FM Stereo radio, which I don't think was offered in 1963. An AM FM mono radio was an option back then. I agree - strange option choices - AC and power antenna were chosen, but not power windows - especially on a convertible !

Lou the owner had a great story on the car and before he could finish you interrupted him . My suggestion Lou is relax and let the owner tell his car story. Have a crib sheet of questions emphasizing the unique features of the car and then let the owner tell his story while you video each feature.
Lou you find so many cool cars and by and large your video is excellent. Do a search on the car beforehand. With the information you have obtained focus your questions and video to feature the special features.
Whenever I see your CZcams posts I click on them with trepidation hoping for the best but waiting for the other Lou shoe to drop. It doesn't have to be that way.

    Lou,
I know it’s a weird request, but would you mind measuring your trunk pan and posting some rough dimensions?
I need a new floor in my ‘63 Starfire, and I found a pan for an 88/98 which I think is the same, but I can’t be 100% sure.
    Mine is roughly 34.5” x 54” x 9” in the sunken area.
    Thanks in advance!
