i want to ask a question, how long would you think it would take just purely dedicating planche workouts, to be able to do a full planche? i can bench press about 120 at the age of 15, early 15 and i only weigh about 116, and i can do alot of pullups and pushups and such

Very informative. I notice that the planche lean tends to work more the anterior shoulders, while the tuck planche variations are more of a core strengthening exercise. Both compliment each well

Extend your arm in front of you. Bend your wrist up so that your palm is facing out and your fingers are pointing up. Now--without moving anything else--watch your biceps changes as you rotate your forearm until your fingers are pointing down.
See how the shape of your biceps changes? This tells you that the position of your hand in the planche DOES matter. By turning your hands out until your fingers are point backward (Supinated), you're shifting more of the burden to the long-head of the biceps muscle.By keeping your hands forward so that your fingers point forward (pronated), more of the burden is on the short head biceps. And going somewhere in between--thumbs forward, fingers to the side--balances the burden across the short and long head of biceps, as well as the brachialis muscle that lies underneath both biceps head.
So wait--which one am I recommending then? The biceps are the secondary muscle on a planche. The primary muscle group is the anterior (front) deltoids, but they'll be engaged no matter what you do with your hands. Juts make sure that your shoulder are both down and forward of your midline (pronated). For hand position, my *opinion* is the best position is with your thumb and forefinger forward, your remaining three fingers out to the side, because this achieves balanced engagement of short head biceps, long head biceps, and brachialis. But for athletes trying to develop planche strength, spend time on all three positions, forward, side, and back, to give each of these three muscles focused development. Change your hand position every two weeks until you achieve the skill, then settle in to thumb and forefinger forward position which offers good balance control even to people with only moderate wrist flexibility.
